Great Italian restaurant!! Family friendly!!!!!!!!!!the best in Metairie and great place for lunch!

Went to Fausto's with high expectations as I had done a wine luncheon there and it was fantastic! Started with the soup of the day which was a crawfish/ spinach cream soup. I know, it's not crawfish season and I should have known better, but my expectations got the better of me. The soup would have benefitted from the removal of the crawfish. They were TINY and had been cooking in the soup for a long time as they were a bit fishy and mushy. Can't go wrong with a Caesar salad, right? Not so, unfortunately. It wasn't bad, per se, but it wasn't that good either. I hate store bought croutons! And if these weren't, my apologies. But, they were super dry and hard just like store bought. And, some of the lettuce was icy, i.e. frozen. The entree's are were this meal shined. I had the Fish Vittorio and it was very very good. The one thing that kept it from being spectacular was that it was a bit over cooked. My husband had the veal parmesan, which he enjoyed. I had a small bite and it was very good. Again, a bit over cooked, but still very tasty. Another issue is that the tables are tightly spaced. At one point a waiter walking between our table and the table next to us, knocked off the small light and broke it. I will give them another shot as I do like their marinara sauce, it's not sweet like a lot of Italian restaurants. Maybe they were having an off night. read more

This place was A+/100% excellent under Fauso. With the new owner's, I'm still out. Went there last night and the food just seemed off. The pasta sauce was slightly more acidic and the arancini was cold in the middle. The lasagna seemed basically the same but the portion size of the chicken marsala was noticably smaller than it had been. I will give them another shot but I hope the new owners aren't making changes to the food. read more

The original Fausto's has been a nice Metairie restaurant for many years. New owners took over recently making us wonder if we still had our nice enjoyable neighborhood Italian eatery. Good news is that the new version of Fausto's is in good hands. The ambiance is much improved with more room inside, an updated bar, and brightened up. Most of the staff is the same. The food was excellent. The prices remain reasonable. The service was great. Our group of six went home full and happy. read more

We moved from NOLA almost 20 years ago, but for a period before we moved away, Fausto's veal parmigiana was one of the few things my young son would eat happily. To say he was picky would be an understatement, but 8 year Mini-Me would wipe out his veal. He may not eat his angel hair, but the veal --gone. He's not living in Nashville, and although they have a lot of great options up there, there is no Fausto's. So even though he and his family didn't make this trip, we went there for the veal parmigiana. Same as before- AMAZING! Service was quick, and we got there early - seated quickly, House salad was just as I remembered it. Then the veal and angel hair. Wife and I devoured it. It was like a little memory from our past that came back to life. Hair's got some gray, a few more pounds on the midsection, but Fausto's veal parmigiana and angel hair was just what we needed. We went for the first time since they remodeled...it's very nice, clean and friendly. Our table had several appetizers, all were great. Then some had the soft shell crab with pasta, and loved it. I had veal scaloppini and it was very good. The chocolate desert hit the spot too. We'll be going back. read more

Food was still as excellent as in the past, ambience was pleasant and talkative although not overwhelming and the service was attentive and very entertaining as it has been in the past. Just popped in for a quick bite to eat. Man what a great find! Although it was really busy, we took the last table, service was great and food came out fast. Our waiter was quick with suggestions from the bar and menu. We started with cocktails, got endless knotted bread, and great food! The noise level was reasonable, but for some reason the waiter misunderstood what my husband ordered. It was a good mistake! Dishes were delicious! They even gave us a free dessert to make up for it! Of course the rest of our food, portions are huge, got boxed up nicely with the free dessert togo! What a great find! read more

Two days before Valentine's night every reservation holder received a call saying they had to close due to plumbing problems. The new owners closed the restaurant for renovations and left all the patrons trying to scramble for another reservation elsewhere TWO DAYS BEFORE VALENTINE'S. Very disappointed tonight. Aranchini came out falling apart and cold in the middle of the. The panned veal was paper thin and I should have been able to cut it with a fork but had to USA a knife and it tasted funny. I should have sent it back. My glass of moscato was awesome! read more

This is a nice hidden spot in Metairie! Food is always very good and waitstaff is always attentive. Each time that I have gone, food and drinks are consistent. It is a bit small and can be loud when crowded! Reservations recommended! read more

I looked on yelp and their website for a place for reservations. There was none so we just showed up at 5:30 and was told they have nothing until 8:30. When you travel 30 minutes to get somewhere to eat and be told by hostess that I should have called ahead. Will not try again! read more

My husband and I had an early dinner here. Hubby had the seafood lasagna. It was warm (not hot). It was very bland with very little taste. We both had salad with house dressing. The salad was ok, but the house dressing had too high a ratio of vinegar compared to oil. It was way too acidic. I had the parmesan crusted pesce ( the fish tonight was drum) served on a bed of wilted spinach and topped with crab meat in a tomato lime sauce. The spinach was delicious (reason for 3 stars). The fish was very fresh. The sauce was way too acidic. The bread was served warm which is nice. No oil and butter on the table. They did bring butter upon my request. The bread was overall mediocre. This use to be my favorite Italian Metairie restaurant. My parents and I ate there at least twice a month. It had been over a year since I been there, and was excited to go back. What a disappointment. We had reservations and we were seated within 5 minutes of arrival. Then it went downhill fast. At least 10 minutes before we were brought water. Waitress showed up 10 minutes later. We ordered drinks. It was at least 10 minutes before she brought them. She promised she would be right back. 15 minutes later I went and found her. She said they were busy and she would be right with us. 5 minutes later she finally came to our table to take our order. She asked if we were ready to order????? We ordered the ravioli and crab claws and asked for another round of drinks. I am not kidding, 15 minutes we sat there; no drinks, no appetizers. At this point we were done. I went to the bar, waited 5 minutes to get anyone to look my way. Asked to pay for our first order of drinks and told the bartender we were done. Waitress saw me there and asked what was happening. I told her we were going elsewhere because we were actually hungry. She rolled her eyes at me and said, I told you we were busy. I will never go back. Freaking shame. read more

Since the remodel, I have been twice. The food is good and the atmosphere is better than before. However begging for every drink gets old. We had to wait then ask for drink refills four times. We stacked plates because the bus boy nor the waitress seemed to take them as they stacked up. The service needs a little fine tuning but the food is good so we will try again. read more

Have been here in the past, but have recently visited here two times in the past month. Delicious authentic Italian food. We have had marinated crab claws, crab balls, crab cakes, soup special which consisted of shrimp & crab bisque. We have tried seafood lasagna & fish special which was cooked to perfection. We also tried limoncello & creme brûlée which was incredible. We had a bottle of Bonanza with dinner which was responsibly priced. I have been back once in the last month. Wife and I eat fairly regularly at Fausto's but I had a special treat this past Saturday evening. Much to My surprise they were offering fresh mussels in a Marinara sauce as an appetizer. Loving mussels as I do, I tried to order this special dish as a dinner size entree. Alas they cam out as an appetizer size dish, but that did not spoil the wonderful taste of the broth. The broth was a red,garlicky wonder that paired well with the mussels,despite their small size. After gobbling up the mussels, each one with a spoonful of the broth,along with a bite of the toasted bread bits, I finished off the broth by the spoonful,leaving none behind. This would be a five star review except for the mix up in the size of the dish and the fact that the mussels themselves were small. I must admit after being at first skeptical this joint get my full approval for as classy as class can get. The service was impeccable and so was the food. I ordered something few restaurants have in NOLA, white clam sauce over pasta and it was great though the clams were a bit overcooked. One other small problem I had was the bread was terrible. This is why I love traditional Italian restaurants so much, everything makes you feel welcomed and even it at times is a bit chaotic, it is relaxed and friendly in equal measures. The caper chicken is really great and the calamari was very good. Price was very reasonable and overall I highly recommend it. Certainly I will come again. read more

If you want EXCELLENT Italian, go here! Definitely THE BEST marinara sauce/red gravy that I've ever had. It's chunky with lots of garlic and Italian goodness. Homemade for sure. Everything I've had here has been 'off the chart' good! Portions are large. Get the arancini appetizer for sure; but it can be a meal in itself, so save room for your entree! The lasagna is full of ricotta cheese, which I love. The service is always great.
