I had a very strange experience at this restaurant a few months ago. I was meeting with my book club and we walked in to find the restaurant basically empty. Maybe 2 tables with diners. A man was behind the counter on the phone and on the computer. Once he was off the phone we asked for a table and he warned us that their phone orders are so backed up that we would not be able to get our food for at least 45 minutes. He made us feel as though it was a mistake to come in. We did not want to wait that long so we decided to leave. The man then ran outside as I was getting in my car and told me next time to "call ahead, then shower, get ready and come in. Then your food will be ready." WEIRD! Isn't the point of going to a restaurant to walk in, sit down, and order? I also saw the man telling the other tables that they would not be able to have their food for a long time because of the many take out orders. Shouldn't individuals physically inside a restaurant take precedence to take out? Maybe the times have changed. I understand Covid has been challenging, and he was probably short staffed, but the entire experience was very off putting. read more

Been coming here since the place opened. Has been awesome to see it get more & more busy. Anny, the owner, works in the restaurant and is lovely. Every time we come we get 2 of the same waiters which are very attentive, polite, and on point. The food is always fresh and amazing. Today I tried the Shrimp & Grits, pretty positive it's one of my new favorite dishes. My boyfriend and I try something new every time & are always left satisfied, never left with that overwhelming stuffed feeling. Went there for a salad, so I can only rate my experience based on that. I ordered the Fav Bistro Salad, which was just okay. For $12, it was definitely overpriced-just an ordinary salad. My husband got the Saigon Salad and it was really good. I would definitely get that next time I just want a salad. The service was good and our waitress was very nice. We love Anny! And we were so excited to find out that she opened a new restaurant in Holladay. We have been eating at Tea Rise and Chabaar. Great ambience, beautiful restaurant, most friendly and helpful staff. Anny was there and helped us order and made the dishes gluten-free. The menu is inventive and so interesting. The food was delicious! We got the garlic beans, mango curry, and poutine. We also ordered gluten-free chocolate banana bread and orange cardamom chocolate chip cookies. A wonderful first visit to this new restaurant in Holladay. Soft shell crab in red curry sauce was delicious...as was their tempura-influenced signature dish known as The Crunch (shrimp and vegetables lightly battered and stir fried.) Still feeling it's way (the menus are skimpy and the beverage selection is a long way from where it will be) this Thai-influenced setting offers meals from breakfast through dinner. WARNING: I used their new online ordering system and placed my order at 5:30 pm for a 6:30 pm pick up. My wife called at 6:50 and said she had been sitting in a line of cars. I called and they told me it would be another 40 minutes. They had my phone and email. They could have contacted me and let me know. I would have adjusted my plans. They are obviously overwhelmed but I am highly disappointed in their ability to manage their online orders. I have dined in their restaurant before. High hopes for this place since it was new and in a relatively upscale spot. How's the food? Well, I can say it's overpriced, 19-25 for the average plate and not a lot of variety. This would have been tolerable had the service not been so horrendous. Lots of smiles from the waitresses as they walked by but no service. Make it worse there were only 3 other parties in the restaurant. We watched another table who showed up a good 10 minutes after us, get water and drink orderS while we still waited for water. After waiting 10 minutes and being ignored, we finally got water. No drink orders, just "here's your water!" 20 minutes after we walked in, we walked out. Horrible services, overpriced food, I think Fav will go the way of the other failed restaurants that have been here. read more

Very disappointed in the service! Didn't even stay to try the food. We really miss Pawits Thai food that used to be next door. We were hoping to find a good replacement. We were sat and then waited over 15 minutes to get water! Another group walked in and got seated right next to us and the waitress took there drink order, delivered their drinks and took there food order without even asking us what we wanted to drink. We were irritated enough we walked away. Came to Taqueria 27 instead. We have never been let down by Taqueria 27. read more

Anny Sooksri and her husband Jeff, owners of Chabaar and Rose Tea, have knocked this one out of the park. In the old Normandie location in Holladay, they have created a wonderful welcoming atmosphere, inside and out (shaded patio), with a menu of Anny's personal favorite dishes. My wife and I shared the garlic green bean appetizer, Steak Massman Poutine and the Crunch (a tempora-like dish with shrimp and veggies, in a sweet n spicy sauce). Each dish had its own distinctive flavor, texture and aroma. They've only been open for a few weeks, but I'm guessing once the word gets out, this will be a very popular destination for lovers of food that dances on your tongue. We have eaten breakfast and lunch here a number of times and always enjoyed our meal. They have an eclectic menu with Thai, American and other styles of food. You can bring both adventurous and traditional eaters here, there is something for everyone. The waitress we have most often remembers that we like kombucha and offers that up as soon as we sit down. They are always happy to accommodate our 18 month old with appropriate cups and table ware. The thing we have most often is the Joke. I think it's traditionally a breakfast "porridge" but it would be great for lunch too. It's a rice soup that has chicken, green onions, carrots and ginger. It's so good. We tried this new Vietnamese spot in Holladay today. The owner told us that the menu is evolving in the first couple of weeks, and we were not disappointed. I asked for help choosing a vegetarian option, and ended up with a tempura vegetable with curry over rice. The flavors were amazing. Also, the restaurant was beautiful and the service attentive. We were waited on right away, our glasses were always kept full of water, and the waitstaff was anxious to please. We are thrilled to have this new restaurant in the neighborhood. read more

Food was average, but was priced twice that of other local Thai restaurants with better food. Parts of our order were not brought to the table and upon inquiring we were first told the items were being prepared and then finally told they didn't have the ingredients. One person in our party did not get served dinner until the server was asked twice to check on the order. The food came after everyone else was done eating and it was cold. The staff was very nice and attentive, but the food was sub par, especially for the price. My meal, banana stuffed french toast was very good and I liked the uniqueness of the coconut milk. The coffee was also good. My boyfriend's meal was another story! The omelette was cold and soggy with a weird texture. The worst, however, were the sides. The napa cabbage was old and discolored, the shredded carrots didnt feel fresh, and worst of all were the bean sprouts. They were brown! That is bad form to plate something like that, especially when they have only been opened two weeks! They should be putting their best foot forward. The prices are high, especially for dinner. We are talking $20 plus for an entree, for Thai and Vietnamese food. You can get great Thai and Vietnamese food in the city now, with fresh ingredients, like Oh Mai in Holladay. I give this place 6 months, tops, before it goes out of biz. Especially when the delicious, inexpensive, locally sourced Pig and a Jelly Jar opens their new location next door it will be no contest! read more

We had a special family dinner at Fav Bistro tonight. They had our table ready, and served us family style. We had arranged the menu before arriving. Everything was amazing! Delicious appetizers, were a roasted cauliflower dish with a yummy Asian sauce, chicken wings with a tangy sauce. The soup was incredible!! Vegetables and shrimp swimming in a coconut base with yummy ginger and lemon grass. Another dish was fresh , deep died vegetables that were fresh and crisp. The main dish was a red curry that was just spicy enough to have a little kick. It was served with white rice and a soft shell crab that was battered. Dessert was sticky rice with homemade coconut ice cream. Service was excellent and we appreciated how kind and attentive the staff was to our group. Can't wait to return!!! read more

Today's lunch was a complete disappointment! It was our first visit to this small bistro in Holladay. We found the menu to be very curious because they had things that seem very vegan and then they would had a Reuben sandwich with added bacon, which seemed so out of place. I ordered the fish taco and the presentation while beautiful left a lot to be desired when it came to the taste. The fish itself had no seasoning and was very bland and even the mango salsa didn't have a lot of flavor. Add to that the flavorless house made tortilla and it was a triumvirate of bland. My sister's crispy pad Thai had better flavor but there was no protein in it at all and she had asked specifically if it had chicken in it. When they brought us our check they gave us two meltaway cookies that had freezer burn flavor and did not melt in our mouths. We just left them after one bite. Finally tried Anny and Jeff's newest place Fav Bistro. I have to say It was wonderful! Our server Tuom? was absolutely adorable. She was on top of our order from the start and made some great suggestions! We had the Cauliflower chimichuri which was delicious, not what I would traditionally call chimichuri but the cauliflower was cooked perfectly firm/tender with a delicious sweet sauce. The pineapple fried rice with chicken was a beautiful presentation! It came out in a half pineapple with sweet pineapple chunks and cashews. It was gorgeous! The lamb panang curry was yummy with a rich slightly sweet curry and very tender lamb. The tom ka soup was another beautiful presentation. Served in a coconut with the classic flavors of coconut, lemongrass and kafir lime. So good! The table favorite was the green curry with baby scollops. It had a delightful kick that made you want to just keep spooning it up. Delicious! All the vegetables in the dishes were perfectly cooked and all the sauces were distinctly different. The price was very reasonable and all of the dishes were perfect for sharing family style. Finished off the meal with a mango sticky rice. Again a pretty presentation with the use of the green pandan in the rice! Warm, sweet and sticky coconut rice surrounded by fresh ripe mango. Yum! Try out Fav! read more
