Great spot for bubble tea and their pastries are always fresh. I love their pork buns. Their little cheesecakes, mousse cakes (I tried strawberry and mango), fruit tarts and the red velvet cupcakes are yummy. I like the ham and cheese sandwich too. I often used stop in here on Sunday mornings (when I worked Sundays) to pick up stuff for my coworkers so we could all have breakfast before shift. They have cakes in a fridge when you walk in that are decently priced and are delicious. There are little tables in the front as well but they're usually all taken any time I go. I usually get the bubble tea with half the sugar and light on the tapioca, not too much milk. The staff is always nice and the prices are really cheap which is great. I like this bakery a lot because they have amazing pastries. The service not so much. Never has anyone been friendly or even saying hello. But maybe that is part of the experience when you go to authentic Chinese bakeries? All I know is that they have a pastry called a Cinnamon Walnut Cruffin. OMG, it's amazing. I put them back in the microwave or oven for couple mins and they taste just like it's freshly baked! I also like their coffee and milk tea. I've heard lots of good things about Fay Da Bakery, but never found the time to stop by, or when I did I only had my credit cards on me (cash only establishment). Luckily was able to pop by this afternoon. I kinda grabbed a bunch of random things because I didn't know where to start. I rated them 1-5 below, 1 being the best: *sticky rice bun (5) *custard bun with sweet topping (1) *cheese bun (3) *almond danish (2.5) *sweet bun (2) I tried to remember all the names exactly but their exact names might be slightly different. The custard bun was by far the best. Sweet bun filled with fresh custard and a crumbly sweet topping. The sticky rice bun was yuck. It definitely tasted like fish, but the signs don't have any descriptors other than just the name of the bun. I honestly have no idea what was actually in it. Only giving 3 stars because nothing seemed like none of it was very fresh. I recognize I went to the bakery in the afternoon, so I look forward to trying it again in the morning and hope to revisit my review with better results. read more

I rarely come in this bakery. There isn't anything wrong with it. It's just when you always eat Chinese food; you can get sick of it. This decision was out of my hands when the F and E trains didn't stop at union turnpike stop. I usually go to the Starbucks near there for a grande bold coffee while waiting for my ride. I couldn't just loiter in this bakery hence I ordered a cheese bun. I find it icky they let anyone go pick their own pastries in those clear glass boxes. The routine is you pick a tongs and a plate. When you go to the cash register, they ask if you want a drink to go with it. Then, they quote the price. The last question is to go or to stay. The whole process was quick. My favorite item is the curry puff from here. It's an acquired taste but it's hot and spicy; I love it. read more

The 5-STAR review is for their dedication to service...all the bakery workers here are overworked and possibly underpaid. They work very long hours-- before getting into details about my experience-- I DO want to reiterate this-- if you pay with bigger bills like 20s and 50s-- it's OK to say what your bill is "aloud"-- call it out loud enough so other people on line could hear and see it. Yesterday morning, I paid with a $20 dollar bill (along with $0.75 in coins) for a $6.75 purchase. I got back $4.00 and when I immediately asked for clarification, the cashier said, "No, you gave me a $10!" So this went back and forth for like a whole minute...my eyes locked with hers. Finally, I understood and conceded. She'd just fought so hard for herself because she DID make a mistake. And if she did make a mistake (or had other intentions--) well, either way the customer can't be right...because then she would've lost face, possible in front of all her Chinese speaking regulars and in front of her supervisor. I know how much face matters when you don't have anything-- her eyes reflected the fiery of my late immigrant mom and the intense glare of my MIL-- the plight of Asian women of generations before us-- and also, currently the same issues keeping Asian women from advancing. When I went in there yesterday-- I spoke only Cantonese. I didn't speak English like I usually do. That's my privileged language of expression-- the language that could make such a big stink on Yelp but that's NOT what I'm going to do here today. I'm taking the high road (and possibly the road less taken) In response to this incident, I beseech you all-- (if you can spare the extra change) when you go in there next time-- please drop a tip in the workers "gratuity box." I definitely do not condone her fight or flight response however, I forgive her-- whatever her reason, it's fu$&ing survival mode. Please leave a tip if and when you can. I picked up a few items from here: a fish sandwich and a matcha sponge cake. The fish sandwich was made with frozen breaded fish, but it's not bad for a $3 sandwich. The matcha sponge cake was made with Ito En matcha according to a sticker on the display case. It had a slight matcha flavor, though it mostly tasted like ordinary Chinese sponge cake. Not sure if they do online ordering. Their website was down. They seemed to be out of many items, so it might make more sense to check it out in person. Convenient location right on the corner of 71st Ave. and Queens Blvd. If you need to hop into a green taxi afterwards, they are lined up right outside the door---MTA entrance for the R, M, E and F trains several feet nearby. Ok, so it's not the *cleanest* Fay-Da Bakery I've been to (and by that, I mean I've spotted employees using their bare hands once or twice when arranging buns, and the trays are probably never cleaned)...and I do wish they had parchment paper separating their trays instead of having to put the buns down directly ontop, but in fairness I've noticed most places don't have this anymore perhaps due to cost. Products are normally quite fresh as it's a high-traffic area so that's a plus point---food turns over quickly! Checkout moves fast but take note of how your purchases are rung up as once in a while you might catch human error happening. Cakes displays are phenomenal-looking. My tips: 1) They encourage you to place your tray of goodies on the high shelf to move the line along efficiently, as they slide the trays down. My suggestion is to NOT do this unless you welcome the opportunity for strangers to cough, snort back phlegm, or breathe all over your food as the shelf is somewhat face-level. 2) Plan on taking your purchases to-go as regulars tend to monopolize the place for hours on end. read more

Love this place, it's so good. The pastries are fluffy and not as sweet as a typical American pastries. They have many different types and style of pastries along with bubble teas and soy milk drink. But if you buy their bread indoor, every time you need to remember to ask for receipt and check if it's all the items you put in your plate to check out , especially when you fill your plate full with different types of bread. You also need to be clear how much each bread costs, otherwise there is possibility you may be charged at higher cost which actually not the price of your picked bread. On the receipt, you will see a different item's name. I leave this comments after they charged me wrong three times. Two times, I had to go back and pointed to the receipt and they refunded me extra charge. Another time, I only found out after walked out too far and didn't have time to go back for about $2. I liked its Roast pork bun cuz it wasn't excessive with the gravy. The filling reminded me of finely shredded pork along WITH the gravy. The color of the mixture made me think of beef. And the exterior bun was light, slightly sweet & salty. Also bought a Raisin Cream Bun. The cream was only a dollop in the center, very similar to cream cheese. Enough raisins to enjoy the bun. I always look for well-priced decent quality things and this bakery is pretty good, not the best but does the trick. I like the chicken sandwich, the egg tarts, the pineapple bun, the pork floss bun, and the curry puffs. Waiting for the Q23 and hungry pre-pandemic I used to come by in my school days. Location: It is right above the trains that stop at Forest Hills(aka 71st/Continental as it was called back in the day). Menu: Basically the food items have the prices listed next to them and on the board are the drinks they make with the prices. Food: There is a high turnover here with food so nothing sticks around long. So if you have a favorite get here early don't silly dally! I love that stuff is always fresh and tasty! This trip I got the moochi(never had it before- I know I'm so lame!), a sesame ball and hot bubble tea! I love this place for the mere fact that they can prepare hot bubble tea and never look at me like I'm crazy for wanting it! That is worth it's weight in gold. I got an almond for ol Times sakes and enjoyed it all the way home on the F train! Cost- super affordable Interior- w much to write home about. There are a lot of people who look a bit down on their luck, but don't let that keep you away. Everyone keeps to themselves unless your taking too long in the restroom! My favorites are their rectangular chicken pies (look for them inside a rotating glass container), hot dog bun and pork floss bun. Ever had tea and coffee together? No? Then you're missing out. Order one (I like it iced) and thank me later. Bubble tea tend to be more expensive than other places but other than that most stuff are pretty cheap. Another inconvenience is the fact they don't take credit cards. At this day, the places that don't take credit cards are really losing some customers. I understand most of their transactions will not go above $10, so it's a double edge sword. By the evening most of the pastries are sold out. I know this for fact, because I met my husband for dinner and we were just walking around Forest Hills and somehow decided to have dinner here. Most of the choices were gone. Also I wish the actually place is cleaner. For a place that serves food, I would think they would work a bit harder to keep the place bit more clean and tidy. That's the reason I took a star, it's not for the service or the food. My of their food is extremely affordable. For an example, my husband loves their curry puff pastry, it's this flaky, buttery flavored curry chicken in the middle. The middle or pastry can use more flavor but I myself love this pastry too. He also loves the egg custard. That is about .95 cents. I think it might have gone up as well. Another one of favorites is the cheese twist. This one gets sold out quickly. It's about $1.25 and its softer than a bagel and filled with toasted but not burnt cheese. We actually purchased a green tea cake for a birthday. It was for about 7 adults and had plenty left over. The cake was about $20 or so. They have ample choices such as chocolate. But I always prefer green tea/ matcha flavors. Of course, even if you buy a fruit cake the sugar is pretty low. This Fay Da location is almost nothing like the rest of the franchises in Chinatown, Flushing and Elmhurst. This one is more "westernized". I usually come here after 6 and most of the bread are gone (of course!). I'm still glad whenever they have some lotus leaf wraps left. I definitely suggest getting it and eating it while it's still hot and fresh! However, they make really bad drinks here. Their tea is way too strong and I can't believe they blend all the fruit in a tropical fruit drink! I'm happy that they have it on the menu since the other chains have stopped serving it but I don't want a slush! I'm well aware that it's in Forest Hills, so of course there's a lot of non-Chinese people eating but it really irks me that only one of the staff can speak Cantonese. This location is not closed. I just stopped by yeaterday. Very nice spot, close to the subway entrance with a spacious lobby. They have many of the FayDa staples like egg bun, hot dog bun, egg custards and the ever popular cakes and hot tea. I stepped out on a limb and tried a puff pastry filled with chicken and sautéed onions in the warm case. It as decent, the outer flaky layers were light and buttery just like the description! The inside was a little squishy with a bone or two but tasty in the least, sort of like a chicken pot pie had a baby with a hot pocket. And hey, it's a win win for $1.95, right?
