a plate of spaghetti and bread
Lily L.

I keep coming back because I almost always get the same thing, the spaghetti with meat sauce and it's always good every time. You're probably thinking that it's pretty hard to mess up spaghetti and meat sauce, but I've had some places mess it up and I know they can get it right here. Sometimes I get the Chicken Parmesan but that is very rare. I like how tomatoey the sauce is and they give you more breadsticks if you ask for it. The service here has always been friendly and courteous. They almost always ask me if I need anything else and offer to get me more breadsticks if you need. If I happen to drive by here at any point, I'm always tempted to come in for some spaghetti. When I was in there today, the staff was going around constantly clearing tables and sanitizing them. This makes me more comfortable knowing that they go around checking for cleanliness. I am definitely a regular here and I hope they keep up the good work.

Kevin had absolutely wonderful customer service skills. My friends and I had an amazing meal and time thanks to his service. He checked up on us, made sure we had everything we needed, and kept the restaurant very clean. I downloaded Yelp to write this review. Thank you Kevin.

Ravioli Gnocci chicken soup Breadstick

3 words. LOVE THEIR BREADSTICKS. I've always been skeptical of trying this place out. For years, I've always passed it but never tried the food here. Decided to finally give it a try during a lunch out...man....it was pretty good! They have the Mon-Fri. $5 lunch deal of pick 2 and if you dinr in...unlimited breadsticks! Omg and it came with a drink. Cheap here and delicious, quick lunch. They got pizza, pastas, soups, and salads. AND BREADSTICKS. lol. The workers were great and food was pretty good. I got the fettucine alfredo and the pasta wasn't overcooked so that was GREAT! Only comment was silverware station was really messy and most silverware were kinda dirty and had food stains on them but thats gonna happen sometimes at some restaurants.

Sign stating the hours
Jessica H.

Was told when called you were closing at 9 pm for New Year's Eve. Got there at 8:07 pm and was told sorry kitchen is closed Waisted trip to come out this evening. Your sign clearly states 9pm too. Not cool to waist people's time and make them come out just to be turned away when your supposed to be open for almost another hour. Will not ever come back!

I had the vodka rigatoni with an Italian sausage, and my husband had the manicotti. I don't have words suffice enough to share the taste and how filling this was. I believe the wonderful surprise was the stuffed artichoke. We had been to Italy last year, and we learned about their love for artichokes. Some restaurants there stuff them too, and this was a close to exact from any stuffed artichokes we had there. The ambiance her is a bit dark and intimate, and our waitress was well informed with the wine pairing she suggested.

It's been a minute since my last visit, and I'm thrilled to report that absolutely nothing has changed... and for once, that's actually a compliment. Round 1: The Liquid Diet Naturally, I kicked off my personal Tour of Italy with a couple of custom cocktails. The Elegant Marguerite: Fantastic, but don't let the name fool you. This "elegant" drink has a dark side and can cause a first round knockout. Proceed with caution. The Limoncellotini: Hands down, the absolute star of the show. Sweet, smooth, and hit every single note on the playlist. Pure perfection. Phase 2: The Carbs & Carnage Next up was the appetizer round. I went with the Calamari Fritta, served with a classic marinara and a seriously impressive pesto-style sauce. The calamari itself was light, airy, and practically melted in my mouth. For the main event, I ordered their specialty: Chicken Vincenzo. We're talking lightly breaded chicken with mushrooms, garlic, and herbs and one heck of a flavorful sauce, side-chicked by a plentiful portion of linguine. The pasta was a masterclass in al dente, and this lived up to the hype. The Service & The Happy accident. Our server was fantastic--actually took the time to pour our drinks tableside and drop some stellar meal recommendations. The place was also impeccably clean, as you'd expect. But the real test of a great restaurant is how they handle a hiccup. One of our friends ordered the eggplant parm, but the kitchen accidentally sent out chicken parm instead. Now, they absolutely would have bent over backwards to replace it, but the chicken looked so darn good they just went with it anyway. When a mistake tastes that good, you know the kitchen isn't messing around. 10/10. Will be back to get hammered by that Marguerite again.

Food-wise, I had the Spaghetti & Wagyu Beef Meatball, and our table also got the lasagna and chicken parm. Everything was good and everyone was happy, but for the price (about double most other Italian chains), nobody was really blown away... until dessert. Between the crème brûlée and tiramisu, the entire table agreed that was the standout part of the meal. They were slammed when we went and we had a few service changes because of the rush. Getting drinks and putting our order in took longer than usual, but once we had a consistent server, it was all good. Busy nights happen. They also did a solid job keeping everything clean even during the chaos, and the restaurant itself is really beautiful. I'll be back, but I'm probably coming back just for the crème brûlée. The food was good, it just felt pricey for not having anything that really stood out in portion or flavor for my whole family. I had multiple family members in my party who've eaten here a lot tell me it tastes noticeably different than it used to. They said they've mentioned it to management before and were told changes were made to cut costs, and honestly, it shows in quality unfortunately. They don't plan to come back because of that, but I'll happily return for dessert.

The cheese was a delightful bold contrast to very well blended meatballs. It wasn't extremely creamy polenta but melted enough to eat along with the meatballs. By themselves seasoned goodness. Calamari was all rings, battered which was a different breading than I was used to but very good with both sugo and calabrian aioli provided. The portion was standard restaurant quantity but of course rings are honestly premium. Chicken parm plated along side parmesan rigatoni had crispy breading flavor with provolone and mozzarella atop. Every bite was savory. I needed a little salt on the rigatoni. My friend said her sliders were good too, even though the bread may look stiff, it was soft, she wanted the side of marinara for more moistness. We shared the dessert.. the butter cake was divine. One of the best butter cakes I've had. Not enough caramel so I hogged a lot of it with the ice cream & bananas. All of food was scrumptious!

Sadly, the overall visit was very disappointing. House salad was great, Sicilian garlic dip was great. Beef spiedini tasted charred and was overcooked enough to be dry. The amogio tasted imbalanced and was finished with a soggy wad of parsley. My side of Capelli D'Angelo was actually great. My wife's Chicken Spiedini Garozzo was also overcooked. The 2 end pieces were dry and crusty. Before tonight I've never had a bad meal at Garozzo's. We know the recipes are great. The execution was the problem. To make matters much worse, our waitress was not good. Would disappear for a 10+ minutes at a time. We saw the neighboring table's waiter over twice as often. She started off our visit by bluntly interrupting my wife while she was talking to me. She took away my Old Fashioned without confirming I was done. I wasn't. The Moderno salad -- with cherries, cured beef, pine nuts, and goat cheese -- was flavorful, though the espresso vinaigrette unfortunately tasted more like straight vinegar than espresso. I had the short rib bolognese and it was absolutely delicious. Others at the table ordered the Funghi pasta with creamy white sauce, which was good but could have used a bit more mushroom flavor. The Toscana chicken breast (bone-in) with sun-dried tomato sauce had that perfect "marry me" flavor -- rich and satisfying. For dessert, we had the Plate chocolate cake with raspberry and pistachios. It was a huge slice, with a rich chocolate flavor. So why not five stars? Despite having reservations, we were seated right by the kitchen where servers pick up food. Made more annoying because the restaurant had a lot of empty booths and tables in the main dining room. The upside was that the pizza ovens kept us warm, but it wasn't the most relaxing spot. There were also a couple billing issues: the tip was calculated on the post-tax total rather than pre-tax. Also our prix fixe dinners included dessert and we opted to upgrade to a different dessert from the menu. Oddly the up-charge was $6, even though the menu price difference was only $3. That said, Plate offers delicious, well-priced food (though the drinks are on the expensive side), and it's still a great choice for Italian food in Kansas City
