Only been once, hope to go again soon. I am an oyster fan, and the oysters here were great! Priced a little high, but expected considering the area and they were good. Pretty good selection of beer, not all IPA's like most places these days. Oyster shooter was delicious! Recommend trying that if you like oysters and want something a little fun for a shot! Great food, great service. We were in Annapolis for the day and yelp led us to Federal House. The Lobster soup was so good and the waiter went out of his way to split the kids meal to two plates so our two small children could share. The building it is in is very cool and you can see the harbor from your table. I recommend! read more

Much nicer than the other establishments I visited in downtown Annapolis. The server was excellent, he made sure we were comfortable. The seafood was very fresh. I had jumbo steam shrimp (why do the steam them with onions?) and a bowl of Maryland crab soup which had very large chunks of lump crab meat on top. Good prices and great service. Food is fresh and served in a reasonable time. Staff is very friendly and considerate of patrons. On a blazing hot day, they covered their door handle with cloth so no one burned their hand on the hot door grip. Very smart of them. Air conditioning worked great (important in 100 degree weather!). Crab dip is excellent. Hamburgers delicious. Cream of crab soup highly recommended. Note that bathrooms are up a large flight of stairs- might be important to some folks out there. Some places you walk by in Annapolis- you wonder what you are going to end up with. Here, there is no question you get a solid meal, good service, and no surprises. There are tons of great places to drink in the heart of downtown Annapolis, but the food at most of them is lackluster. While Federal House isn't the end-all be-all of pubs, the food is definitely better than most (with the price tag to prove it), and therefore it is my default choice for a solid meal while in the area. The menu runs from your usual pub grub (nachos, burgers, etc.) to more substantial entrees, like ribs, chicken, a variety of fish and, of course, crab cakes. I've usually stuck with the burgers and related sandwiches and always enjoyed my meal, especially when paired with the optional sweet potato fires. The only disappointment was the grilled ham & cheese half-sandwich, since they chose to use Kraft singles rather than real cheese. That's fine for the kid's menu, but not my wife. There was one item I was really looking forward to on our last trip, the jalapeno poppers appetizer; sadly, it fell into the "brilliant idea, terrible execution" category. They replaced the cream cheese with crab dip, which sounds amazing. However, they failed to remove the seeds and ribs from the peppers, so they were too spicy, masking the delicate flavor of the crab dip. And at almost $10 for four, they weren't a bargain either. For dessert, I highly recommend the "Fried Chimi-Xango Cheesecake." Stupid name, tasty dessert. I've had variations of it at other restaurants, and Federal House definitely does it best. Service here, both in the bar and dining area, has always been on-point. Nothing particularly memorable, but always friendly and punctual. P.S. There's a kid's menu available too! read more

We've been in twice and we love it. The burgers are excellent. In the words of my partner, "That's the best burger I've had here." We both get the Bacon Jam burger (swapping the fried pickles for fried onions). I wanted to try something else the second time, but the burger won out. The beer selection is great and service was consistently strong. Came here for lunch and enjoyed it. Service was very quick. I ordered the fish tacos and they were excellent. Fish was nicely seasoned with a hint of old bay and had a Mexican twist and served with pico de gallo, guacamole and sour cream. My boyfriend got the soft shell crab sandwich special and thoroughly enjoyed it. We also shared a bowl of the cream of crab soup and it was delicious, perfect creamy texture and taste. They were good, breaded with the fish bread crumb stuff. We sat at the bar and the bartender was nice and helped point out a couple points of interest for us. Located on Market Street and right by water it was a perfect choice. We had several appetizers and our favorites were the Federal House Crab Dip and mussels mariniere. The Waitress suggested the crab soup told us they win lots of awards locally and she was on point. We all ordered a cup and were not disappointed. As far as meals we enjoyed the Fish and Chips, Grown up mac and cheese and the Craby Pattie which is a burger with cheddar cheese, crab dip and a thick onion ring. This bar is very unprofessional. The bouncers that they hire cannot handle themselves in a capacity that I expect from an establishment that serves the public as frequently as they do. In particular, I did not even speak with the bouncer that apparently had to have a confrontation with me. My friend, who was in my group, was walking past the front window of the bar that we had every intention of entering and decided to pick up a chicken tender that was left on a table outside the bar, unattended. The bouncer decided that this was his time to shine. He walked up out of nowhere and asked my friend, "is that your chicken tender?" At which point my friend replied, "No." The bouncer decided that the appropriate response was to wind up, not dissimilar to an MLB pitcher, and slap the aforementioned chicken tender out of the hand of my friend. Unbeknownst to me at the time, due to my shock at what just happened, the chicken tender was slapped onto my chest and down the front of my jacket and pants, which included the ketchup on that chicken tender. A few moments later, I went back to the front of this establishment and asked the bouncer, "Why are you slapping chicken tenders out of my friend's hand? And can you get me a napkin from inside?" To which he replied, "Those are my chicken tenders. And no I can't, y'all can't come in and I'm working the door." This did not make sense to me, because if I was in his position, I would not want to slap something that I wanted to eat out of someone's hand onto the ground, and why would that prevent me from letting potential business into the establishment that I work for? After this, I was detached from the situation from my group, and we went on to enjoy our time at another bar, who were extremely professional and welcoming to our group. Overall, this bar did not exhume the professionalism that I would expect from an establishment in downtown Annapolis. I would NOT recommend visiting this establishment, unless you wish to be treated like a lesser human being that does not deserve any respect from another person who you have done nothing personally wrong to. I thought the food was very good, and I was surprised that they would and could cook the salmon filet on my sandwich medium rare. They have a good amount of outside seating, which was perfect for the beautiful night we were there. Looking in through the window, I thought the bar area looked great with it's high ceiling and exposed brick walls. We both had the Lobster and Crab Roll which was more burger sized, there was plenty of filling and it was delish, but really crab with a touch of lobster. I came here with a few friends after going to a church service at the Naval Academy Chapel to hear Ravi Zacharias speak. We had wanted to go to another place, but the wait was an hour so we walked further and noticed this location. When we stepped in, the hostess seated us right away. I wasn't sure what to expect but the average Yelp stars was pretty good, so we gave it a try. I am so glad we did. I had the Federal House Pick Two option and had a chicken salad sandwich with fries and cream of crab soup. Everything was so delicious. The chicken salad sandwich came on toasted bread and had fresh ingredients, in addition to being very flavorful. The fries were just the right amount of crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The cream of crab soup was creamy and definitely NOT from a can; the crab was flavorful and not too salty. I enjoyed the meal and my friends all enjoyed the various meals they had as well. The wait staff did take a bit of time to refill the water, but it looked like things were a bit busier than usual. my boyfriend and i went here on 4th of july before fireworks - first mistake. i expect it to be packed which is okay. i got a text number saying my table would be ready in 20 minutes, and right as we turned around the corner to walk along main street 2 minutes after, i get a notif. we go in and order our food, ravenous. the water tasted off, and then we order our food. my crab cake sandwich wasn't perfect, still okay, but i only got like 10 french fries - had to ask for another side. my milkshake was mediocre, but the bread pudding was honestly so good. all in all, the service was good, food was not very good, but we understand that it was a very busy night. read more

Decent oysters but all else seemed premade or out of a can. I'm convinced the onion soup was from Trader Joes. Came in for happy hour and loved the atmosphere so decided to stay for dinner. Their tap list is great, with seasonal drafts that rotate through quickly and hav ea great amount of variety. Plus, everything is half off for happy hour, which makes the prices quite cheap ($3-4) for quality beer. For dinner, as a party of three we got the pot roast, seafood risotto and crab cakes, which were all delicious. The crab cake was absolutely loaded with crab, which isn't always the case. The sauce for the seafood risotto was something special, and the pot roast was pretty darn good as well. Our waiter was friendly, so overall, it was a great experience all the way around. read more
