This hotel is a restored 1890s schoolhouse. Nice sized rooms at a reasonable price. A few minutes walk from the center of town. The staff is both friendly and helpful. Two drawbacks: there is no elevator so you have to haul your stuff up some steep stairs. Of course the friendly staff offers to help but that's the second drawback. There is only one of them. They are too occupied with other tasks to actually help. This place is seriously understaffed. read more

Finally made it back there after a two years. The hotel is as great and welcoming as my first visit. Since my last stay, FPI has expanded to a house next door. The adjacent house includes several various size rooms. I was fortunate to have the house to myself during my stay, so it was incredibly quite. I will say the room I had upstairs was a small bedroom, but with a huge bathroom. The room was beautifully furnished and it was a great for what I needed at the time, but if i was in town and working, I'd need a room with a work area. But FPI can take care of that too. The majority of the rooms I've seen are very spacious. The lady checking us in (Carolyn?) was formally the manager at the Larson's Quality Inn (my old favorite) and is just a wealth of information on the battlefield. I don't wan't to stay anywhere else when I'm Gettysburg. read more

Handsome building and pleasant receptionists but everything else wrong: Had to get help to get heat on, just one small towel per adult, bedding and stored blanket not clean, no bathrobe or needed supplies. The grounds and rooms are absolutely beautiful. We only stayed one night but had a very enjoyable experience It is very close to downtown near little shops and pubs and about a 10-15 minute walk to other side of town closer to battlefield and tours. We saw the Pointe pub on trip advisor and decided to try it, it is in the downstairs of the Federal Pointe Inn. We had a great meal. It is s small place but nicely designed. There were three of us and we got appetizers and enjoyed them all. We chose the cheese plate, the beef crostini , potato skins and the shrimp cocktail. The beef crostini was great, the beef was tender and was complimented by the onions and the blue cheese sauce. The food was great and service was exceptional as well. We will be back. read more

What a wonderful find! We had a wonderful stay with a friendly and helpful front desk. There are many wonderful Civil War artifacts in all the hallways. Being an old school building from 1896 the ceilings are very high and the bathroom up to date with a great shower. My room did not have a bathtub. We ate in the pub and was not impressed even though the service was of a high standard. read more

This place was exceptional in quality and location. Get prepared for a long review and let me state beforehand that I was not paid or solicited for this review lol. Myself and a friend have already had talks of making this an annual couples trip and possibly a girls trip in the next year. Gettysburg drive was a very easy drive from Maryland, 90 minutes total to the hotel parking lot. The drive was serene on two lane highways and even single lanes through small towns with many slopes, greenery, mountain tops and farm land were serene. This drive was purely not for the sweet racer but allowed me time to slow down from the hustle and bustle of the DC metropolitan area. Upon check in I was greeted with homemade scones and a full coffee set up. The hotel has continued to maintain a more vintage, victorian feel but does it well. Rich wine colors, gold, and dark cherry wood can be found as the theme for the rooms. I had a queen room that was spacious with a fridge, a bed with wonderful high bed posts and a bathroom with a shower. This hotel is in a prime location as whether we walked east, west, north or south 2 blocks up you are greeted with crystal shops, homeopathic and wellness stores, wineries (with tastings), restaurants and bars. After two days we were clear that our next stay must be longer. The pub downstairs managed by Lisa was such a gem. She was pleasant wit h a wonderful personality, introduced us to new beers that we enjoyed, and the food was delightful. I ordered the pulled pork after having a few too many drinks and it was tender, filling, and tasty. This will for sure be our getaway close to home every winter. read more

Federal Pointe Inn was once a high school then a grade school then a daycare center. In 2012, it was totally redone and became a lovely hotel. Our room was graciously appointed, and had a walk-in shower. I love not having to step over a tub to get to the shower. There are scones and tea set out for the guests in the afternoon. There is a pub onsite. I do wish that there was breakfast in the morning, but there are two restaurants nearby that offer breakfast. Coffee is available in the mornings near the reception desk. The staff members were friendly and offered stories about the building and suggestions for restaurants/shopping in the area. read more

We just returned from a weekend stay in Gettysburg for the 150th anniversary of the Battle. We stayed two nights at the Federal Pointe Inn and I can't say enough about this hotel. It exceeded my exceptions at every turn. The Inn has a lot of character - it's a converted school building which was originally built in 1896 and recently renovated. Our room was very large. We had a king size bed and a pull out couch. There was plenty of floor space, even with the desk, square coffee table, chair and fridge. We never felt cramped when we were in the room and we are a family of 4. Our room was on the ground floor in the front right corner, so there were tons of windows which provided great sunlight during the day (dark hotel rooms are a pet peeve of mine so I was so happy), and the curtains completely covered the windows for privacy and darkness at night. We didn't hear any street noise, even though the hotel is at a point where two somewhat major roads meet. The bathroom was also very large and very modern. It had a marble shower and a separate whirlpool tub. Everything was so clean and comfortable. There was a nice hairdryer in the room, as well. They serve a complementary tea in the afternoon in the hallway right outside our room, with delicious scones of many different varieties. I'm pretty sure my family wiped them out - we were famished and saw the tray when we came home - and they were replenished minutes later. The Inn is in the process of applying for their liquor license, so there was no bar when we stayed here, but it's in the plans. There was a Keurig in the room with k-cups, but we walked a few blocks to 7-11 each morning for coffee. The hotel is conveniently located so that you can walk to the main shopping and dining areas, but you have the privacy of being in a quieter part of the town just a few blocks from the busy streets. If we visit Gettysburg again we will definitely stay here. A great find - a newly renovated hotel with character! read more

We just spent the night at Federal Pointe Inn with friends visiting from southern California. This was my second stay, having visited with three golf buddies last April. The hotel is delightful. It occupies the Meade School building constructed in 1896, so rooms are spacious and ceilings high. Baths are modern and large. The beds are quite comfortable and everything is sparkling clean. Tea and coffee are available on the main floor 24/7 and scones are served from 3 pm to 5 pm. Every floor is decorated with artifacts from and paintings featuring the Civil War; you can see parts of the Gettysburg battlefield from the hotel. Pub walls on the lowest level display dozens of class photos from the building's history as a school. It has a good selection of local and nationally available craft beers and wines, several different ciders, and hard liquor as well. This time of year, the pub is open Wednesday through Sunday, 4 pm to 10 pm. All four of us were very happy with our accommodations and the service at Federal Pointe Inn. My wife and I will certainly us it every time we visit Gettysburg. read more

We stayed here one night while visiting our daughter at Gettysburg College and fell in love with this hotel. Room 207, a queen bed suite, was a spacious corner room with high ceilings and abundant windows. The bed was super comfortable and the linens were soft and luxurious. Save time for a nice soak in the big tub. We loved the little pub in the basement. The woman working the front desk was very helpful when we had trouble connecting to the free wifi (resolved). The only complaint, and it's minor, was that the room got a little hot during the night. The location is perfect, just a few short walkable blocks from the center of town. Note: the hotel is not in the middle of a big field/green space like the hotel's photos lead you to believe. It's right in town. Gettysburg College parents can easily walk to campus from the hotel. As frequent visitors to Gettysburg in the last four years, we've tried many hotels in the area and this one tops the list. Too bad it's booked for college graduation this May! read more

I love the history and ambiance of the inn. The employees are very nice. The only thing I did not like was the cleanliness of our room. There were seven dead flies on the floor and a water bottle cap. They had obviously not vacuumed the floor in between guests and that made me question the cleanliness of the rest of the room. The hotel alone is beautiful and historic. The history of the building was very interesting. The rooms were nice, beds were comfortable but lighting was minimal. Our room window , that opens for air was right above a stairwell where employees are allowed to exit to smoke. The cigarette smoke was so strong and out entire room stunk . The Pub in the basement came highly recommended by the front desk and the reviews seemed to be above par however the food was terrible , overpriced and the chef was just walking around like he didn't know what he was doing. There were 5 people max between the bar and the restaurant yet it took over 30 minutes to get food . We ended our evening ordering a pizza to take back to the room only to realize it was a frozen prefab crust, with spaghetti sauce and a large amount of cheese that tasted terrible. And again it took 30 minutes. Stay at the hotel but do yourself a favor and skip the pub and head to Gettysburger for great eats! read more

I stopped in for a drink and an app. Got a Kendall Jackson chard for $9 and had to stand and the bar. It's really really small. Ran into lots of friends. We were so impressed with this beautiful converted school right in the middle of downtown Gettysburg! Our room # 208 was booked as a "king suite" and was massive, with cavernous ceilings and a gorgeous giant bath, very modern. It wasn't a suite in the traditional sense because it was all one room, but with the space it still made sense to call it that. Very comfortable finishes and beautiful big king-size bed. Both nights we enjoyed the sweet basement pub, and were grateful for the free coffee bar available in the hall right outside our room. While you're in Gettysburg be sure to check out the segway tour- it was a highlight of our trip! read more

As my family and I drove out of Gettysburg today we passed a host of chain hotels and we all said just how lucky we had been to find the Federal Pointe. It's a really well converted schoolhouse, and our room (205) was spacious and comfortable - it even had an little sitting area off the main room with a sofa bed. If you are looking for somewhere close to the centre of town but quiet and tasteful this is the place. We would definitely stay here again (and we don't often say that). And soo much better than any of the other chain hotels! read more

What a Gem! Beautifully appointed rooms appropriate for its historic setting but with modern amenities. These rooms exceed expectations and have 15 ft. ceilings and windows that stretch almost as high. It has easy parking and is only an easy 3-block walk to downtown circle where all the restaurants, pubs and shops are. I felt safe and very looked after. The service is friendly and helpful. There's even a little pub in the lower level that has a schoolhouse theme (Inn used to be s school). Great for grabbing a quick after dinner drink. I didn't use the gym but it was open until 10 or 11pm. There's free k-cup coffee, hot tea and bottled water in the room and a paper on your doorstep each morning. There's even a mini fridge in the room for your leftovers. If walking to town to eat, I highly recommend Food 101 (BYOB - there's a winery shop & craft brew shop across the street) and Blue & Grey Grille (insanely delicious burgers but gets busy so consider calling to learn when to beat the crowds). I came to town for a conference but will definitely return to the Federal Pointe Inn for pleasure. I loved my stay so much!!! read more

For starters, I travel for work and have been fortunate to stay in some of the nicest hotels in the world. This hotel was honestly one of my favorites I've ever stayed at. You can't miss it - the historic, brick schoolhouse exterior is one of the most prominent buildings in town. The hotel's interior beckons with beautiful fixtures and tastefully displayed Civil War-era antiques. The massive size of the hotel is devoted almost entirely to a handful of rooms (perhaps 20 total?). I requested a king suite with a jacuzzi tub and our room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and extremely comfortable - with the exception of the bed pillows. (I strongly recommend bringing your own, if you can.) The hotel has been well-renovated, but still boasts plenty of character of the old schoolhouse, with high ceilings and even what appeared to be an original "classroom" window in the bathroom. While there wasn't much in terms of extra amenities - no pool or breakfast - the small staff was always helpful and kind. (I second the last reviewer about the breakfast; maybe they could move the afternoon scones to morning? But that's just being nitpicky...) I got a chance to peek in some of the rooms before check-out (almost all of the guests had left) and honestly, all the rooms are about the same size. Most of the regular rooms were even larger than our jacuzzi suite. Bottom line - there really isn't a bad room in the hotel. My husband and I truly can't wait to come back. read more

Great find and definitely worth the price. The memorabilia and decorations are amazing and it feels like you get a museum tour on the way to your room. The pub is also very nice and a better choice if you have to wait too long at one of the restaurants down the street for a table. The menu has fair a selection and the beer well priced. Decided to try Federal Pointe Inn as the reviews on Yelp and Trip Advisor were so good and I have to say, they were spot on. It's a former school that has been carefully repurposed as a hotel. It's quiet and very tastefully done, with none of the chain hotel cookie cutter aura. We were greeted and checked in by Vicky, who just could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Clean and nicely appointed, it feels very much like you're staying at someone's home. Bathroom was roomy and super clean with a nice oversized shower. No on site restaurant but typical coffee in room and coffee and tea available in the lobby and scones in the afternoon. They had honey for the tea drinkers which is a small but thoughtful addition. Small breakfast restaurant about 50 yards away and downtown center is about a 5 minute walk. If you're looking for a beautiful quiet and somewhat classy place to stay in Gettysburg, you have found it here. What could they have done to get that 5th star? The single thing that was lacking was somewhere - anywhere, to place my "stuff" in the bathroom. Toiletries, toothbrush, etc. Just no where to put it. Would absolutely stay here again and have no reservations recommending it to my fellow Yelpers. read more

I wish this survey had a rating higher than "Excellent." Seriously. We are avid travelers. We stay in A LOT of hotels (like no less than 30 a year, if not more). This was hands-down the best hotel we have ever stayed at. The front-desk gentleman not only escorted us to our room, he showed us all the features of the room (how to adjust the heat/air thermostats, location of extra blankets, TV remote tutorial) - this guy was FULL service! The fresh homemade scones and tea during check-in hour was a charming touch (and delicious!). But above all was the room - absolutely exquisite. We came to Gettysburg to tour Gettysburg National Park and the Civil War battlefields, but honest to God, my husband was so enamored by that King Suite, I had to force him out the door!. I don't leave reviews often, but this hotel goes down in history as the most charming, spacious and nicely appointed room ever. read more

This place was filthy, full of bugs and way over-priced. The staff was very unfriendly. The hotel is located on a very noisy and busy intersection. There was heavy traffic, including trucks, late into the night. This made sleeping very difficult. I would neber stay here again. read more

Absolutely in love with this place. I love to see old buildings given new life & what a great job they did converting this old school to a hotel. My husband and I stayed here one night for the 4th of July, which the steps to the building happened to be front row seats for the fireworks that night. Bonus!! This was an absolutely wonderful place to stay starting with a very friendly clerk at the desk, Bob. We were there on a Monday night in early December, and although the pub downstairs wasn't open, he took us down there and showed us very cool pictures of the history of the hotel as a school dating back to the late 1800's. Our room was a former classroom, so it is larger than most and very well done. I imagine that there might be other cool places in Gettysburg, but the Federal Pointe Inn has earned our business for our next trip to a historical and fun venue. read more
