Great Texas bbq in Southlake? No, not here. I drove across town to investigate all the rave reviews that Feedstore was garnering from Yelpers...but I soon discovered it was all hype. Granted, the Feedstore BBQ shack had the look that great country bbq could be had here. The smokers out back also gave off that aroma of good smoked meats. Even the meat carver knew to pull out the point end of beef when asked. But that's where the hope ended. The brisket I received was bland and DRY! And the carver had no idea which part of the beef to slice off. There was no bark to speak of, so I hard time zeroing in on any smoke (none) or seasoning (very little). This was sandwich-grade material, not worthy of consuming on its own. The jalapeno sausage was commercial grade stuff; true, it was spicy and kicky but no identity to distinguish it from other hot links I've tried. I noted that their menu offered burgers, catfish and more: a telling sign that Feedstore suffers from trying to please everybody and losing focus on their primary venture. And that's probably why Feedstore is hiding out amongst the manors and estates of Southlake: trying to find validation from surburbanites that don't know good bbq. read more

Mmmmmmmmmmm. BBQ. This was pretty darn great BBQ, and I ate a lot of BBQ while I spent my time in TX. A nice local spot that just makes great food. Snuggled in between expansive houses on even larger lots, this eatery is exactly what I envisioned when I think of Texas BBQs. Several choices for food - from brisket to sausages. Lots of sides too! You stand in line and tell 'em what you want, and scoop most of your own sides (the fried stuff they make to order and will hand to you). After you pay its off to grab some more sauces and drinks, complete with sweet tea (a must). By this time the mouth watering aromas drive you to find a table, sit down, and scarf it up! A couple of rooms with tables, although the back room was reserved for the local Miata club (random, I know). They serve you 4 ounces of meat for each serving with two tasteless sides for $17.10 including tax. And their 4 ounces of their brisket is full of fat and skin, and they call it traditional cut!!!! Luck would have that I started working down the road from this place. Inside you'll find plenty of seating in a friendly country setting. I enjoyed working my way to line - choosing meat, serving my sides, paying, picking bread, plating condiments and lastly a drink. I had a three meat with two sides. A few rolls, their regular bbq sauce, their spicy bbq sauce and diet coke completed my tray. I'll have to try their pork sauce another time. The brisket wasn't phenomenal but pretty good. The turkey hit ranked the same in my book. Now the sausage was phenomenal! The sausage was the best I've ever had! I don't say that lightly! You can trust that Ive eaten tons of different bbq sausage in my almost 40 years ok this earth. This restaurant is tucked off of white settlement road, be careful because if you're not paying attention it'll sneak up on you. The smell upon arrival is delightfully intoxicating. The restaurant is adorable and decorated well. The staff is friendly and welcoming. I got the chopped beef BBQ sandwich (wet) with fries... YUMMY! We stopped here for a lunch today. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich with 2 sides. I choose the fried okra and mashed potatoes. The pork was most and flavorful, I topped it off with some of their spicy bbq sauce. It was very good! My fried okra was made to order and was tasty! The mash potatoes were some of the best I've ever had. My friend ordered the sliced brisket plate with 2 sides. She had the mashed potatoes & coleslaw. She said her meal was excellent. Daniel Vaughn, the Texas Monthly BBQ editor, recently visited this place and neatly summed up what I've had trouble summing up for some time. He said the BBQ was "serviceable". And that sums it up. Their sides are great - try the fried okra! And their chicken fried steak is great! Which makes me think their catfish must be excellent as well. The sausage is very good. The ribs and brisket tend to be overcooked, flavorless and dry. Still, it is a fun place and there are many worse places in the area. read more

So, based on local reviews we stopped by today. Our favorite is Meat-U-Anywhere Barbecue. This restaurant is a well decorated place inside. Stopped at the meat cutter. He was not a friendly man. He was cutting some ham. It looked good. My wife ordered chopped brisket. I asked for juicy brisket. It looked dry. When good brisket is cut, juices should run out. None came out. Uh oh. The sides looked good. The Mac and cheese was good. My wife got greens. They were obviously frozen. In short, we won't be back for brisket. They do offer a lunch special of Chicken Fried Steak. It looked very good. And a large serving. One bright spot was they have a soft serve ice cream machine. read more

Good BBQ that's close to home, always good parking, and good tasting meats and sides is one that's worth checking out. You stand in line to order, somewhat cafe style and you pay at the end of the line. You mozy your tray slightly further and pick up your dinner roll and drinks, very easy/simple design. We have tried most of the meat there but I tend to opt just want a simple sandwich vs a full meat plate, although the meat is good, I personally find it to be to much food where as the sandwich I can eat easier. My husband is always a two meat type of person so we are both able to get what will fill us up. I ordered burnt ends because I've had them at other restaurants and loved them. I don't know what this mess was that they served me, but it was awful. I asked for traditional cut brisket as a replacement, and they brought me lean brisket out of spite. The brisket was actually worse than the burnt ends: just boiled, flavorless meat. I've had their traditional cut brisket in the past, and it's been very good. The lean stuff is bad, and it wasn't what I'd asked for. Double check your receipt - clerk at register over charges. Very disappointed tonight with the service we received. We ordered 3 meat plates which should come with two sides and a role according to the menu. After I got home, I looked closer at my receipt and noticed that I had 3 extra charges at 2.79 for sides. I admit I should have looked at it closer but it was so busy tonight, we felt like we were being pushed through the line so they could get to the next person. I've been eating at Feed Store since they opened back in 2001 and even used their catering services for parties however it seems in the last year the quality of the food and service is declining. The brisket is usually good however there are times where it's to fatty. The sausage seems to be dried out a lot more lately than it was in the past. The sides are a hit and miss lately as well. The Mac & Cheese as well as the Fries we ordered are under cooked, potato salad was good until I got a mouth full of mayo (I hope). I will admit that the beans always seem to be good. I've always like the food here however in the last year, it seems their business is growing faster than they can keep up with lately. For example, tonight in the huge rush, they were filling gallon tea jugs for a catering order from the customer service line. We had to wait until after our mean to get our drinks because they were still brewing a fresh batch. Didn't give the opinion that three meals purchased were as valuable as the catering order. If I had to remove all the bad experiences I had tonight, I think I would rate them as 3 stars. The company needs to really focus on the quality of their products more instead of the quantity of product they move. Very solid BBQ. Brisket requires absolutely no sauce and has a nice smoke ring. I did salt it, but that doesnt bother me as long as there is a good solid smoke flavor. (i like salt - so sue me!) Great turkey. Nice rub + a good smoke Really good sausage. There's a flavor in there I'm not easily identifying but it might be a dill or rosemary. In any event, its really good. Fantastic brisket that was really juicy and still had a nice crust. Nice place to eat outside next to the farms but enough space indoors. Also really appreciate the fact they took the precautions to make the restaurant safe during these times as it's not easy to do and some places forego it.
