Mexican decadence at its best! I've tried all of their appetizers, honestly they are all delicious. Fernando's is one of our favorite restaurants to dine. Their flour tortilla chips are exquisite and served warm. They are very habit-forming, one of the reasons I eat there. The service is fantastic and the wait staff are friendly and check on you often, but not too much. You get a complementary Tootsie Pop, which is a sweet final touch to end the meal. read more

Went to dinner here last night. Fairly busy, and the food was top notch. However, they filed our order as complete and did not catch the mistake for an hour. While they made what I thought was a half hearted apology, they made no offer to comp anything and seemed more interested in getting us to pay the bill and leave. Fernando's is one of our go to places but it's important you know what you're getting into. If you are looking for authentic Mexican this isn't going to satisfy your craving. That said, it's definitely comfort food served piping hot (sooo much bubbly/melted cheese) and plenty of it. I almost always get the enchiladas which do have some kind of a sauce on them, albeit not traditional, but lots of cheese. I prefer chicken but the seafood is really good too and indulgent with the cream sauce. They are also known for their pico de gallo. Tip- order with both corn and flour chips and make a pico/ salsa mixture with the salsa provided at the table. I love their margaritas because they are small and strong- but again- not your typical sugary limeade restaurant marg. It's also worth noting that their service model is friendly but efficient. Most of the staff has worked there forever it seems which I think says a lot about the restaurant. I love that their staff is attentive but doesn't linger. read more

We eat Mexican a lot. At least weekly, if not 3 times a week+. Fernando's not only falls at the bottom of my Mexican list, but could quite possibly be the worst food I've ever paid for. Adjectives we used to describe our dining disgust: tasteless, bland, gooey, congealed, greasy, over priced, dry, over cooked. First off they don't give you free chips and salsa? I know it's not authentic but come on every mex-american place does it, don't be cheap. We tried the guacamole and flour chips, guac was pre-made and the chips were incredibly greasy. Not happy. So then we tried the pico de gallo and corn chips. Not horrible but not memorable. A bean burrito ala carte, hold the sauce - came with so much greasy cheese melted on top we both thought it was drenched in sauce. It was a hunt for the beans and tortilla, a waste of $. Me: a pollo burrito Fantastico, a Fernando's favorite! (hold the tomatoes and sauce). Also hidden under a layer of greasy cheese and then topped with lettuce and sliced olives. The shredded chicken was so dry and bland, completely disappointing. And to top it off - even the after dinner mints were a disappointment, tootsie pops - yuk! And today our Realtor agreed that Fernando's does suck and added that their margaritas suck too. read more

Went there Saturday evening - it was not busy, probably because it's a dive and you can tell as soon as you walk in the door. But we were hungry. Ordered nachos with ground beef, got no beef on them, but DID get guacamole, so because of that, they said well we're not going to lower the price. Really classy. Plus the nachos were gross. You could tell they put them in a really hot oven so that they were really hot on the outside but the cheese was only melted enough to make it that stretchy texture that forms a glob in your throat that you think you might choke on. Why is the parking lot so crowded? That is why I went. That, and I love Mexican. So the spinach artichoke dip was like hot mayonnaise with chips so gross. On the plus side, they earn a star for taking the hot mayo mess off my bill. Fish tocos were descent. The corn tortillas were fried which I have not encountered before. Maybe that's because I am from the east coast. They held together better but added unneeded fat and calories. If I was a local, I wouldn't be back. read more

Best pico de gallo in town. Choice of flour or corn chips- I personally love the flour chips, always fresh and still warm. My favorite is the taco/enchilada plate- I get the heart healthy version with one soft shell chicken taco and 1 chicken enchilada, with rice and beans. The chicken is delicious all white chicken breast. The service is always very quick, plates come out piping hot and the server brings the food out with a glove because the plates are so hot. Dinner is always followed by the server bringing large bowl of tootsie pops to choose your favorite flavor. read more

The food here was great, but definitely not authentic. If you're looking for authentic go to South Omaha. The margaritas tasted like Mr. Clean floor cleaner(the turquoise bottle) smells. The waitress however, clearly expected us to be her last table. She hardly acknowledged we were present, taking at least a half hour to take our order. She took orders from the stairs instead of coming to our table. Before we could even sign her receipts she asked for the books back, and expected us to hand the books out instead of her. She was aloof throughout the entire experience. She made us feel as if we had overstayed our welcome. We could have been there shorter if she had taken our order! read more

I don't know what to say about that place. I ordered steak fajitas, the onions and green peppers were almost raw dunked in a lot of oil and Greece. The meat tasted bad. The food didn't even come with chips nor salsa nor rice nor beans or any of that kind of food that Mexican restaurants offer. Beside all that the service was bad. If they don't know how to serve Mexican food then they should switch their business to be a mechanic shop speaking of the oil that was on my food. read more

I have eaten at Fernandos for years and always enjoyed the food, however last night I went there for dinner and had the fajita salad with chicken. The moment I left there I felt sick, I was sick vomiting throughout the night with terrible stomach pains also. I called them this morning to let them know they definately had something that was contaminated. My whole experience was horrible. I walked in waiting for at least 7 mins. No one else was waiting but my husband and I. The waiters have seen us just standing there, they did nothing but Ignore is. After we were seated it took a while for a waiter to come to our table. It was not busy at all. Once the waiter finally came she looked like she was already was having a bad day. They way she asked for our orders was disrespectful & we did not like her tone of voice. We ordered our drinks which came in the right amount of time but once it got to our food, it was more waiting. The plates were extremely hot. It would have been nice to know before I touched the plate and burned my finger. The food was dry & disgusting. I ordered 2 tacos. They were both disgusting. The beef was so oily that it made the bottom of the taco so wet. It was disgusting. We left before my husband plate came. We will not be coming back ever again. read more

I used to enjoy eating at Fernando's. The meal was good. Service was poor. Our server never came around to ask if we needed refills. After we were done eating, we had to find the waitress to request out check. As we were leaving, the lady that greats customers acted as though she didn't see us. I grew up in Omaha & always heard such great things but never came by. Today, I decided on Fernando's instead of Cilantro's next door (which sucks btw). The staff were very sweet & not too attentive but it was a slow time. The bean dip was out of this world. Like I make at home. And flour chips?!??! Senior Matias left me so abruptly so I instantly fell in love. I haven't found a place in KC that has flour chips. I'll be back with friends in tow. read more

I do not choose to go to Fernando's as they charge for chips. I feel that Mexican restaurants should provide those like most do in Omaha. Chips to a Mexican Restaurant are just like bread or a roll at restaurants. I feel it is tacky to charge for chips. read more

Very Americanized Mexican food. Had the burrito fantastico, and it was just okay. Chips and salsa are not free, so you do have to order and pay for it. (Or one of the other dips. This is a pet peeve of mine when it comes to Mexican restaurants) Service was excellent and everyone was very nice. Food was very forgettable, and on par with a chain place like La Mesa. They have the best chips and salsa hands down no contest. My go to dish, Chimi, is aces and arguably one of the best. Their tacos are fantastic when I switch it up. They have a great heart healthy dish that I don't regret getting. And their Fried Ice Cream is the best. read more

I've been there a few times a few years ago and thought it was pretty ok. This last time was terrible. Ordered $9 chips and chili con queso. Was a solid piece of greasy cheese that had to be cut with a knife. Manager explained that's how it's supposed to be. Waiter charged us for two large drinks and we had water. The enchiladas were pretty much like the cheese dip, solid chunk of cheese. Beans and rice were flavorless. Will not return. I'd much rather go to Nettie's! read more

Usually we like Fernando's but not today. Ordered #1 fried crispy tacos w beans and rice . The outside edge of the tortillas were browned and crispy but the rest of them were soggy because the beef was pretty tasteless and had some kind of liquid in it....hopefully not grease. I have only been to this restaurant once, so perhaps my experience isn't the norm but I am shocked by the less than great reviews. It isn't that I've not experienced good Mexican food - I have traveled extensively - including several trips to Mexico - and I lived in southern California for quite some time. I found this restaurant to be top notch. Nice atmosphere. Even though fairly crowded, it was not so noisy you couldn't have a conversation with companions. Excellent service. Great food. Everyone in our party of six had a different entree and everyone was more than satisfied. I did take about half of mine home, having partaken quite liberally of the baked chips with blanco dip. It made quite a delicious lunch the next day. I will be returning to this restaurant soon and hope my experience is as good as the first. read more

Delicious! Nothing beats mom's real Mexican cooking but this place hits the spot. Pico De Gallo with flour tortilla chips is a must have to start. The bean dip or guacamole are also favorite starters. I always have the enchilada, taco and burrito combo plate which guarantees me leftovers! The prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get. The atmosphere is casual with plenty of room for families or couples. Some nights there is a wandering magician who is a hit with kids. As much as I want to give them more stars the restaurant has changed in the last few years. The staff used to be so sweet and the food used to be amazing. On our last visit we had an older lady as our waitress and sure was beyond rude. She came to our table only three times, once to take our order, once to bring drinks, and once to bring the check. She never asked how the food was or if everything was right (which it wasn't) and didn't even speak to us when she dropped off the check. Idk if she assumed bc we are young we'd be bad tippers or what but she definitely made it unpleasant enough for me to never want to go back. read more

This is my first time visiting Fernando's. The service was great and the food was good. I really like the fact that they have a heart healthy menu section option for people watching their health. The only thing that I would recommend is that the pico de gallo and chips be on the house and have authentic Spanish music in the background to make the ambience more authentic instead of playing American music. read more
