Best known as home to the Farmer's Market, this venue is actually owned by the City of Bellingham and boasts any number of events in its unique indoor/outdoor setting. Outside there are long rows of covered areas to protect vendors from sun/rain, and inside the vast, naturally lit space is flexible enough for anything from meetings to weddings to dances. There are also convenient bathrooms, and up in the SE corner of the building you will find the Depot's only permanent resident: Ralf's Bavarian Pretzels. I've spent many an hour (perhaps even several entire days) at the Depot, and I never tire of its classic Bellingham vibe. See you at the next festival!

We needed a venue that has multiple sections as the wedding has both traditional ceremony and ethic ceremony. We had different groups working on different things at the same time. The only downside of this venue is their sound system does not match the quality and beauty of the venue. The audio of the sound system was more of a distraction and than an enhancement. On the day of the rehearsal, I had asked for the system to be checked to ensure it meets our needs. I was assured that everything was checked out well. On the day off, the mic went on/off during the whole wedding ceremony. It was so annoying and distracting. Finally, the system went out by itself, which was better. Even if there is no enhancement of the audio, at least no distraction. So, talked to the DJ about it and I was told they were informed that the wireless tends to have that issue. Instead of fixing it, they just let it be a distraction. It very disappointing experience. They assured me that we will be using a wired mic during the reception and it should be okay. NOT! The mic was so low that we could not hear the speaker. Unfortunately, there were so many wonderful messages that were shared and only a few tables close to the speakers could hear the message. I was this place up their sound system to match the elegantness of the venue. The sound system seems to downgrade their entire venue value.

We had room #111, which is the closest room on the second floor to the main (lobby) building. I thought road noise might be a problem, but it wasn't really noticeable. In fact, there were only two things I didn't like about the room. There are no microwaves in the rooms. But there is a small one in the hallway on each building's floor, shared by all. Not as convenient (we use it a lot for tea, coffee, etc.), but good enough. More annoying was the amount of light coming in from the windows. There are bright security lights on all night (that's good), but the curtains were not designed to cope with that light. Therefore, the room remains pretty bright all night. That I really didn't like. You can look at my photos for an idea of what the breakfast buffet included (e.g., 2 kinds of bread, 2 fruits, 4 dry cereals, coffee, etc.) Nothing remarkable, but I have definitely experienced worse. Overall, it was a comfortable, clean, and relatively quiet room, at an exceptionally good price. Service was always very friendly and helpful. And the location is centrally located, near the I-5 freeway, near downtown, and pretty close to Boulevard Park, Zuanich Point Park, and Whatcom Falls Park. If I return to Bellingham, this would definitely be my first choice of lodging.

You can also get a free pass for a yoga class! The yoga studio is two stores down and seems so fun. I would have scheduled a massage here as it was super reasonably priced for 60 or 90 minutes, but the last booking was nabbed by the time I made up my mind. Also, free bike check out if you happen to be here during nicer weather. Too cold for us. In the room you'll find quality bath amenities, free snacks and drinks, coffee maker, water kettle, teas, and a decent sized fridge. The bathroom had ample towels and nice shampoo/conditioner/body wash dispensers (simple human). There was a hair dryer (not the best) and a lighted makeup mirror. If you've forgotten something (toothbrush/paste, razor, etc) they have some convenient supplies at their front desk per the in-room info folder. The only thing you'll want to note is that our sink/mirror was outside of the shower/bathroom if that matters to you or your roomate. Very clean and appreciate that pets are not allowed here. Would definitely stay here again. Parking: Ample street parking adjacent to the hotel during our stay.

I only took off a star because it is a very old hotel and there are limits to what can do without completely tearing down, which would be a massive shame. You could argue for 5 stars for what it is, but I put that love into the value section. They could perhaps do a little more for a more upper-end feel, but then prices would start rising and charm would start to drop. If I ever have a need/desire to stay in Bellingham again, if I'm on a budget or just want to be walking distance from everything in the downtown core, this hotel will definitely be my first thought. Our suite was super roomy with a separate living room and kitchenette! We found it to be cute, hip, and comfortable. The mugs even came with bags of tasty tea by Smith Co. and coffee by Makeworth Coffee. Super nice touch. Parking was easy and free in the connected garage. The hotel was in a convenient location close to a bunch of downtown shops and restaurants. We walked to Boundary Bay Brewing (we will miss you when you're gone!) for dinner that night and it was a short and pleasant stroll. We both enjoyed our stay and would stay here again!

You can tell someone put care into creating a space that feels relaxed and enjoyable. Unfortunately, that's where the good news ends. Disappointing - I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was too frustrating to stay silent. I ordered a Chardonnay and was shocked to see the pour -- a measly 4 oz for $7.99. That's barely more than a tasting sample, and certainly not what you'd expect for the price. To make matters worse, they informed me there was a two-drink limit per hour when I asked for another glass 1hr 45 min later at the outside table with my family. I politely asked for another glass and was refused, despite being completely sober, weighing over 190 lbs, and standing 6 feet tall. There was no reasoning, no discussion -- just a flat-out refusal I can't serve you ar this time. The staff's tone? Cold at best, condescending at worst. If you value fair service, reasonable pours, and basic respect, I'd suggest you take your business elsewhere. Friendly staff? Not quite. Overpriced micro-pours and arbitrary limits discriminating absolutely. Cabins are cute but then that's the only little bar/ convenience store on the property so it really ruined the flavor of this cute place. You've been warned.
