Had a special birthday dinner w/3 on 11/8 & was so disappointed based on past delicious experiences. 3 of us split 2 lasagna & gone was the ooey-gooey melted cheese on top, missing was any beef inside, sauce was watery & both lasagnas were ice cold in the center. The place we all wished we actually had ice was for our water, warm tap water isn't too appealing. For $20 per lasagna, we were all really bummed. Came here at the recommendation of a coworker. Had the pomodoro pasta and it was meh....reminded me of potluck style pasta or hot lunch back in grade school. Ratio of sauce to pasta is an overkill. Sauce was way too sweet for my liking and presented fairly messy and unappetizing on the plate. What I will give them credit for is their gelato. I would come back for gelato. read more

I ordered the appetizer tortellini crisp. It was so full of pepper. It was unable to be eaten. While I sat there, waiting for my rest of my order, I watch the cook in the kitchen as he put spices on food he didn't pay attention. He just threw handfuls of seasoning out there, which is a shame because their idea of the Italian food should never be spicy or hot which people can't enjoy the food, so that's why I only gave him one star. Ferrantes is a unique offering in spokane, part market, part deli, part restaurant. You order your food at the counter and the chef (too softly imo) calls your name when it's ready. They have a good selection of local wines and they are the only source on the south hill for gelato. And it's good. The Italian food is pretty average. I had the diablo chicken and it wasn't spicy, no heat...and the cream sauce was very blasé. There were no forward flavors that stood out and the whole thing was pretty bland. The calzone my hubs had was massive but it was served burnt on the top. We scraped off the blackened parts but I find it maybe rule #1 not to serve a burnt entree. We were hungry and didn't want to wait for it to be remade. I would return for gelato, but I would skip the rest. read more

Laurie pretty much hit the nail on the head. I stayed in Florence Italy this summer and Ferrante's calzones are just as delicious as the ones I had there. That being said, they are delicious. The tomato sauce is so fresh and light. It's not paste by any measure. My delightful suprise for the day, however, is what I got when I added red bell pepper to my veggie calzone: Roasted red peppers! I was eating my veggie cheeseless delight and happened upon an odd tender delicious reddish thing. I thought to myself, "Huh...what's that? And where are my bell pe....!! Holy Crap! There are ROASTED bell peppers in here! Holy crap I love this place!" The crust was amazing, the sauce fresh and delicious, and the vegetables were fantastic. The cheeses are great too, if you're in to that kind of thing. The gelato is a little ice-cream-ish. It is more delicious and creamy than ice cream, but it's also not quite gelato. Alas, I just haven't found it in the States. I give this place four stars not because of flavor and quality, but for price. This place is a bit pricey for me. I have been to other restaurants of equal or greater value that do not charge as much. read more

This place definitely deserves 5 stars, from its cool system of shop while you wait, to its delicious food, to its great service, to its incredible gelato. I've been here at least 15 times, so there must be a reason why I keep coming back for more. Everything I have ordered, I have enjoyed. My favorites are the shrimp salad (comes with their house vinaigrette which is garlicky and delicious), spicy sausage pizza (thin crust which I love), the lasagna (OMG), and the bacon panini (I add tomato and it's great). I just came back from Italy, so you'd think I'd be pizza' and gelato'd out, but within a week of being back, I needed some Ferrantes in my life. When you walk in, you grab a menu from the counter and can choose a table. After reviewing the menu at the table, you go back up to the counter to order and can either pay then or pay after you're done in case you want to add some of their yummy gelato to your order at the end. Then while you're waiting for your food, you can browse their little shop at the front of the restaurant which is full of great jewelry, clutches, the most amazing smelling candles (some are locally made!) and great bottles of wine (some local and some even from Italy). I want to warn you that if you pay with a card, their receipts don't have a tip line to leave them something extra. I think this is because it's not the normal service where the servers are constantly coming to your table but they really are great so I try to remember to bring some cash with me when I go there. read more

Right when you walk in it's a really nice ambiance. The hostess greets you and you grab a menu from the front and take it to whatever seat you like. Very mellow and relaxed. It's a great place where you can grab a bite to eat with friends and just kick back. Water is self served and you order up front. Had a pretty decent collection of bottles of wine options ranging from $9-$39. My husband and I both got the Peas & Bacon Pasta but substituted the bacon for chicken and it tasted amazing! We topped it off with sun-dried tomatoes (highly recommend as an add on). We heard this choice was a favorite among others and I can see why it is. Very tasty! As I was walking out, I didn't realize they had gelato so I definitely come back and try that as well! read more

My wife and I just came from Ferrante's. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. First off don't expect to be served. You have to serve yourself, even to get a glass of water. When the food is ready you have to go to the kitchen window to get it. I ordered their chicken parmesan. I got two very small thin pieces of chicken on a big plate of pasta. The chicken was grilled to the point where I felt I needed a chainsaw to cut it. No flavor to it at all. The pasta sauce was "average" at best. My wife got two very small pieces of chicken in her chicken piccata. At least she was able to cut her chicken, but complained that everything was too lemony. Also I noticed one of the cooks was wearing his mask below his nose. They'd have a fit if we walked in there like that. I will not be back. read more

First time visit and very disappointed. Greeted by very friendly staff who seated us in a very small and dark two too table in the very back corner of the dining room. There was only one other couple in the place. She gave the menu and explained how you order at the counter and they will call out your name when it us ready to come get it. No service. Moved to another table as we could not stand the dark cramped corner bench seat they had placed us in. Menu had plenty of pizza and pasta dishes which I don't eat. After going to counter to order a glass of wine I studied the menu and ordered a "Steak" salad. When delivered, it had five bites of meat on top of a bed of chopped romain with a few cherry tomatoes and onion. Such a deal for 15.95! My friend had a pizza which looked good but he said it was "just ok". Also had their "Gelato". Tasty, but not real gelato. It was just smooth ice cream. Left hungry and went home and made some dinner. Pass on this one. read more

Update: tried the alfredo again, no where close to as good the second time around. The flavor of thyme and chili flakes was no where to be found. Chicken was still very moist but hardly any flavor in the whole dish. Kavorka had zero flavor besides burnt flatbread and was cold when we got it. How do you make roasted garlic taste bland? The pesto it came with had great flavor though. Really disappointing that there isnt consistency in their dishes. First time trying, ordered to go took about 45 minutes. Chicken alfredo was delicious. Great flavor of chili flakes and thyme, moist chicken, light sauce, large portion. Focaccia bread that came with pasta was dry and bland. Got a caesar salad as well, nothing exciting, dressing is oily and mild in flavor. Margherita pizza was delicious and bright. read more

Ok first off, wow, worst experience of my life tonight with this place. We ordered 2 calzones, and 1 chicken fettuccine Alfredo with 2 side salads. I asked the lady to please mark the calzones as I was dropping 1 off to my brother before we headed home. The boxes were mislabeled and he got ours and we got his. It was too late to call as they were closing and no one answered the phones. Our calzone was not what we ordered as well. It was a completely different calzone, not the one my brother ordered. The chicken alfredo was dry, and was full of 2 inch bones which my niece almost choked on. So I had to go through the entire dish to find every single bone as I was worried. I found 3 pieces of bone throughout the pasta dish.The sauce was tasteless and super dry. I also asked for side sauces for the calzones. I was given some in a bag and when I took them out they were ice cold and semi frozen. How can a place be so careless with their orders? Was it because it was before closing and laziness occurred? I have no idea, all I know is one time this place was great and this was the last time my family will be going here. If I could rate this order a 0 I would, even a 1 is too much. Very upset I wasted over 50 bucks with a completely wrong order and a really nasty pasta dish I had to toss away. read more

This seems to follow the Spokane M.O. of not a lot of choices so we'll tolerate mediocre taste with less then fresh ingredients and subpar execution. We were looking for a nearby Italian place and found this. We were eating there and while they sat us and gave us menus, we had to go to the counter to order. I got the crispy chicken and my husband got the chicken parmesan. They called our name when the food was ready and we had to go pick it up from the window. The chicken on both dishes was WAY overcooked, hard to cut and super dry. Sauce was runny, and everything lacked salt (or some kind of flavor). The only reason I gave it two stars was that the people there were nice and my dish had a ton of baked cheese on it, and you can never go wrong with lots of baked cheese. Wish I could find a decent Italian place around here! read more

I have lived down the street from Ferrante's for over 4 years now and have yet to stop by. After reading some reviews I decided to stop by for a quick bit. I have to stay the place is real cute. Right when you walk in there is a little section you can browse. They have a good selection of wines but not many. They also sell local stuff and it's very cute and chic. I ordered the Bistro Steak salad and all I have to say is, 'Yummy!' I didn't check out the gelato but I will next time. From what I hear it's awesome. I would say slightly above average, hence the 3 star review. One thing I am a bit miffed about is I thought the gelato was only okay. Many others love it, but I offer my opinion that it is bland and tasteless. However, just like anything, take it with a grain of salt. Perhaps it was just a bad batch or something. What a hidden gem this restaurant turned out to be! Very nicely decorated, it has something for everyone. The linguine with artichokes and kalamata olives in a pesto sauce was delicious, the Greek salad and loaded calazones were very tasty. It is kid friendly with a pretty gift area attached. The word OVERPRICED comes to mind immediately after our dining experience at Ferrante's. We ordered a 12" pizza that contained no meat and cost $15 and there was truly nothing special about the pizza. The dough was a tasteless thin crust, that most anybody can make in the own kitchen in under an hour. The cheese had very little flavor and the sauce was very weak. Insipid would have been what my father would have called it. We also had the Double Garlic Chicken which was good but again we had to wonder "where's the beef?" My wife who thinks a dinner salad is a belly busting event even commented that the entree was sized more like a small appetizer. If my teenagers were there they would have eaten both of those entrees and still have been hungry. When you combine already high prices with measly portions and the fact that you have to walk to a counter to place your order and then the kitchen "YELLS" out your name and YOU pick it up at the kitchen window the dining experience was less then satisfactory. read more

It was love at first bite at this place for me! I had been reading reviews on here and on Taste Everything Once and was hellbent on making the trek from the North Side to try it. Well, after trying (and failing) on a Sunday I was finally successful 3 days later. It was worth the wait. I had a caprese panini, and it was about a million times better than any caprese salad I've ever had. It was so flavorful, and the bread wasn't too dry or crispy. The greens it was served with were mediocre but I was so full after my sandwich I didn't need them anyway. I was floored to have gelato afterwards and it didn't disappoint. The other thing that makes this place so unique is their mini boutique. While we didn't buy anything we did enjoy perusing. One of the most awesome things (and a reason I will be back) is that they have homemade scallili--just like Grandma used to make! This is a cookie that I'd never had but it's a pain to make. I am hooked! At $3.99/bag it's well worth it. I look forward to many happy, gluttonous trips to Ferrantes. read more

Small cafe tables, wrought-iron lamps hanging from the ceiling and the walls are painted olive and chocolate (nice combination). There's even a whimsical gift shop with unique and special finds. One for you, one for me. The menu is simple classic Italian. Ferrante's specialty is perfect hand-tossed thin crust pizzas, just-right baked calzones, creative salads and Italian street-side quality Gelato. They use the freshest ingredients available and that makes all the difference. There's a small room in the back with one table, where there are chalkboard walls and a TV with classic cartoons usually playing. Though the varieties change up, I can't pass up the peppermint candy gelato and Ferrante's serves DOMA coffee, which is my fave. Try it. You'll be charmed, I'm sure. read more

From the outside looking in, the inside can seem dark and a little confusing seeing the marketplace on the right. But I think it just adds to its charm. The outside patio area is my favorite place to eat, as it gets a nice breeze and you can people watch. Once you step inside you approach a counter to the left and the marketplace on the right. They have an interesting way that their restaurant works. You can sit where ever you like and look over the menu and when your ready you go up to the counter and order. You can pay at that moment or wait till your done with your food in case you would like something else or some gelato. The gelato is great, and I've lived in Europe and had real gelato! There is a large display case with a pretty decent array of different flavors. The menu has a good range of Italian food, that is well seasoned with good portion sizes. The wait time isn't bad to get your food, just be sure to listen for your name. Can get busy and packed inside the dining room and around the cashier/order area, but once again it adds to its charm. read more

Well well well... We love this place so much!! I'd say best past in Spokane and probably my favorite restaurant. My old go to order was the Peas and Bacon:yum! Get this, I swear I used to be a strictly only lasagna person but this has open ended my eyes to the variety of Italian food. I called in earlier because I've cut out dairy and most all animal products, they were so helpful and guided me to the linguine pomodoro. If vegan, get this. There is also a vegan pizza that I have not yet tried but next time im in i def will!! Then for the gelato portion of the night: I got the lemon-lime sorbetto. Very good but if ur okay with dairy then u have many selections and I vouch that they are the creamiest and some of the best desserts ever. read more

The place is nice and quaint. However their Cesar Salad homemade dressing had little to no flavor for a Cesar dressing. Their side bread with the balsamic dressing was good. However their lasagna left the taste buds lacking. Very little flavor and not much substance. A bit of oregano and some more spices would be able to add some flavor to their sauce. read more
