one of the BEST Mexican restaurants I've had in a long time, and baby... it was FIRE. Now let me start with the one thing that bothered me. When I first walked in, I wasn't greeted. I was looking around for a menu to place a takeout order and there was a family ahead of me taking up most of the entrance area. Kids were running around, people were sitting everywhere, and it was honestly hard to tell who had already ordered and who hadn't. While I stood there waiting, employees kept coming back to offer that family more things while I was completely overlooked. Eventually I got frustrated and left. Instead, I placed my order through DoorDash and went across the street to McDonald's to grab something for my babies while I waited. By the time I got back, my food was coming out fresh. Now for the good part... I ordered 2 steak tacos and 1 chorizo taco with onion and cilantro. It took me about 15 minutes to get back to where I was staying, and the food was still warm and held up perfectly. The first thing I noticed was how flavorful the meat was on its own. Nice char, great seasoning, and you could tell it was cooked with care. The corn tortillas were clearly fresh and tasted homemade. They pulled everything together perfectly. And this is my ultimate taco test... I saved one for later that night. Hours later, the tortilla still hadn't fallen apart. It wasn't soggy. It wasn't disintegrating. The taco was still intact. Now let's talk about the salsa. They gave me both salsa verde and salsa roja and LAWWWD. The flavor, the spice, the balance... they somehow made the tacos even better, and I didn't think that was possible. I'm so used to the watered-down, Americanized stuff people swear is authentic when it barely has any flavor. This was the real deal. If you're from the Chicago area or honestly anywhere and you're looking for authentic Mexican food with actual flavor, this place is worth it. And if you're visiting the Wisconsin Dells and want something good that's not ridiculously overpriced, put this spot on your list. Great food and great service in a pretty big place. You enter the front to get in line where you order. Then you can find a spot to sit and wait to be called for your food. By far the best Mexican food in the dells. It's fairly loud so definitely not an ideal place for quiet or intimate. They have something for everyone though! The rice and beans are made without lard, butter or any stocks. I.e., vegan! I had carne asada fries and chorizo tacos which I took home because the asada fries were thicc. We stopped for quick bite driving through to Milwaukee one day and were surprised how good this place was. My wife who ranks tacos al pastor as one of her favorite foods of all time said these were some of the best. The guacamole and salsa were excellent too. I had a rajas tacos, which was good, especially with a heavy dose of the house salsa verde. The only thing I would change about this restaurant is that I wish they had table service. I wasn't thrilled about ordering at the counter and having to come back for the food and bring it to your own table. I wanted to relax after a long day of wrangling kids in the dells. I especially enjoyed my ceviche, which was loaded with tilapia and topped with plenty of fresh avocado. The customer service was great. Visiting for the first time can be a little confusing. When you arrive, you grab a menu off the counter and seat yourself. Once you decide what you want, you take your menu back to the counter and place your order. You are given a buzzer and return to your table. We are regular vacationers at the Dells. Read the great reviews, for Taqueria Mexico and brought my family of four in for dinner. Now, most ethnic restaurants fall within a continuum of authenticity. E g., some people think Taco Bell is Mexican food. There's Tex-Mex, Southwest, and then there are those truly authentic Mexican restaurants. We ordered a variety of dishes, but I honestly don't know where this restaurant falls in that continuum. If this is authentico, it's 2.5-stars. If it's SW or TM, 3-stars. Not sure where on the continuum this restaurant would need to fall in order to deserve a 4+ star rating. Meats seemed overcooked. Some of the food is flavorful, some food less so. Staff was friendly. The most flavorful place in the Dells we tried to get everything but shocker the elote was SOLD OUT!!! I am not surprised because the tacos, sopes, flautas, and the Cali fries were ! They All take pride in the service they provide, which to me means they hire not only employees, but people that want to be there and share their talents and gifts!
