As an avid traveler and espresso lover, I love trying locally-owned cafes across the globe. Fifth St. Coffee Roasting has honestly been one of my favorites. It definitely competes flavor-wise and pastry-wise with cafes in Palo Alto and San Francisco. From the beginning of the cafe experience, the ambiance and the aesthetic makes you feel comfortable and at home. It also offers nice outdoor seating with cute succulents on every table. As soon as you walk in, you can tell the owners are experts in roasting and the baristas were very friendly. Also, it's sometimes hard to find lavender and rose lattes, (especially good ones), so the fact they offer both and they taste good makes Fifth St such a hidden gem. Big fan of the lattes and almond danish. Their pastries are fresh, good quality in taste and texture and add to the cafe experience. We were passing by and stopped for a coffee. Place was nice and clean. We ordered large lavendar latte and it was too sweet. And price was high than most of the coffee places. Looses taste as it cools, end could be bit watery and looses smooth structure like most of dark roasts espressos. I like lighter roast and more dynamic espressos. Ambience: looks nice outside and inside, clean, spacious. Has a roasting machine in the room which looks cool. Seating available outside. Service: really nice, welcoming, happy. 5 star for that. Customer service is absolutely crap. I was appalled by the cold and unwelcoming service. Customers talking off their masks and drinking in the store and no one is saying anything. I asked a question about what she would recommend as her favorite and she said all of them are good. As I was placing my order, a customer walked on and she switched her tone to a happy one. I used to come here regularly pre-pandemic. It was a regular spot for me. I considered myself "a regular" to the point where the owner knew my preferred drink. I always try to support local businesses. Fast forward to June 2022 and I'm in town feeling like some coffee. I stop by with my laptop to read some emails for work. I walk in and look around. I don't see the usual electrical outlets that used to be there. I ask the owner of there is a spot to plug into. She looks and with this smug reaction says "oh no, there are no plugs." I said thank you and walked out. I give this rating 2 stars not because of the idea that laptops are not welcome but because of the attitude of superiority that I was greeted with. read more

I hope you're lucky enough to be near this building when they're roasting their coffee beans because the smell is so aromatic that I want to sit on their sidewalk with a stout and just breathe-in their scents. Mmmm This is a spot that I'm so happy (and relieved) that survived Covid. I was legitimately worried because another local shop on the other end of town wasn't so lucky. Fifth street coffee has something for everyone whether you're a connoisseur of drip, a cappuccino or something sweet. And if you enjoy Mexican flavors such as horchata or Mexican hot chocolate, they make the BEST. They have a variety of milks (including plant based) as well as daily pastries. No clue where they get their pastries from but they've all been fresh and delicious. I personally get excited when they have the almond croissants. If you've never had an almond croissant, please do yourself a favor and create an indulgent obsession for yourselves. They also sell their personal merch which includes nice coffee cups/traveling mugs, as well as their coffees by the pound. We tend to buy the Guatemalan blend most often because that's where my husband's from and he thinks they roast it just for him. LOL read more

We've passed Fifth St. Coffee many times and it always seemed busy so we finally stopped in to try it. The shop is cute and has a cool coffee around the world mural on the upper wall. They have a unique variety of drinks, such as the Horchata Latte. I tried the Hazelnut iced latte and it was excellent. Prices are around the same as Starbucks, maybe a little bit less. The shop is easily accessible from downtown Gilroy. Highly recommend. read more

Seems like that's a good time to have that ready. Instead of getting a pour-over, I just got a drip coffee...but had to wait for the coffee pot to fill (thought it was odd to see a regular coffee pot behind the counter, like something you'd find in a home kitchen). There was about 2 people in line and when it was my time to order, the employee didn't even say "hi, can I take your order" or "next customer". She just stared at me blank faced waiting for me to say my order. When it was time to pay, she just said "you can pay now" and didn't tell me the price as well. Stopped by for a coffee and dessert after the Mushroom Mardi Gras in Morgan Hill. The place is really cozy and has a nice vibe. There is an area next to the bathrooms with a large table and a small library. It is relatively isolated from the rest of the coffee shop and great for working or studying. There also is some window seating with comfortable bar stools right by the entrance in addition to a few regular tables and armchairs. Certainly has a cool character. On a Saturday, the coffee shop was almost empty, but it still took baristas a while to make my cappuccino. It turned out to be pretty good: not too much foam and flavorful coffee. The cherry pastry I got was not good, probably sat there since Friday as it was a bit stale and lacked freshness. This place is great but it also can do a lot of work. The owner always has an attitude problem and is never happy to see customers, but I keep returning because the coffee is so great. I love their pastries, but they always seem to forget them in the oven! I am always reminding them of my goods. My coffee will come out but my baked goods never do! It never fails. I love the mexican mocha here, but if you get it at night, I noticed the workers aren't crushing the abuelita chocolate as much so many chunks get stuck in the straw. read more

I spent the last two weeks with my girlfriend traveling. We went from Oakland to Murrieta. Then to Joshua tree. Then to Los Angeles. Then to a wedding. Then to Paso Robles. Thennnn the 101 back to Oakland. This was our LAST STOP! After a marathon adventure (which I never do). My girlfriend said she had looked up Gilroy as the garlic capital of the world. Then discovered garlic ice cream. "That sounds terrible!" I told her. "Want to try it?" She asked... "YES!!" After some research I landed on 5th street Coffee. They apparently sell the best garlic ice cream. We pulled into the sleepy but modern town and puttered through the old downtown. We happened to come on the one day where everyone cleared them-out. The Garlic Ice Cream had maybe 3-4 tablespoons at the bottom. It was gone. However, seeing our disappointment, The barista made the effort to put together a small sample for us. It was unnecessary. We weren't THAT sad. It was just for fun. Big effort on her part. They have a lot of other options. I left with German Chocolate. You guys... It was so good! Strolled in on a hot Thursday afternoon for my midday coffee fix. I love the decor here - it's got that mellow hipster vibe going on with jazz playing in the background. They serve coffee, tea, and ice cream. I ordered the lavender honey latte and it was decent. I couldn't really taste or smell the lavender but the honey flavor was good. Prices are a bit on the higher end for what you're getting. There are three different sizes and I got the smallest - the 12 oz which came out to be ~$4. Overall, this is a nice place to study at (despite the lack of wall plugs) or meet up with friends. Would come here again if I'm rolling through downtown Gilroy. read more
