Took us about 45 minutes from arriving till food was physically on our table Mushrooms seasoned poorly - some parts were SUPER salty some were bland. Carrots are good. Escargot sauce was good. They didn't give us a fork for escargot and it got cold . Server didn't come to check on us. Lobster rigatoni is delicious but cold when it came out also. Bone marrow was good - nothing too special. We ordered it without capers and they came with it anyway. Overall the food was okay and the service was not so great. From the beginning - with the host on the phone and us waiting to be helped when there was no line. Even our server wasn't great - gave way more attention to the table next to us just because they were older and had 2 more people. We were constantly ignored. Amazing happy hour menu! Their happy hour menu runs 5-6pm every day. Most of their items are 50%. The balloon bread and most of the entree dishes were excluded from this happy hour deal. When I came here, the only entrees that were part of the happy hour deal were the Mary's chicken and the ricotta mushroom cavatelli. As first timers, my boyfriend and I made a reservation at 5pm on a Sunday. The parking situation wasn't easy and we ended up parked at a meter that required a permit after 6pm. So we made it a plan to eat really fast so we can leave at 6. Spoiler: we made it out right on time despite ordering a bunch of dishes! We tried the clams, lamb ribs, stone fruit salad, proscuitto di parma, balloon bread with hummus, and ricotta mushroom cavatelli. Everything was delicious! Our fave dishes were the clams, balloon bread, and lamb ribs. I was a fan of the cavatelli but my boyfriend was not. The service was great (and super quick). Thanksgiving Takeout We ordered the full thanksgiving takeout this year. The order said the meals serves up to 8. We had 6 adults and had plenty of leftovers. This was a great, ready to heat and eat multi course traditional dinner that was heavy on the veggies. The flavor is perfect and I was very sad that it was discontinued. If they do bring it back, I highly recommend you try this dish. - Crispy Calamari: Big fan of their calamari. Super crispy and flavorful. - Mary's Chicken: My absolute favorite item on their menu. This is the juiciest chicken breast you will ever have. It melts in your mouth like butter. It also comes with pieces of fried chicken thighs. - Maine's Lobster Rigatoni: The lobster flavor is phenomenal. I will warn you that this dish does have its good and bad days. I've been here where the lobster flavor really fills the dish and it's amazing. On a "bad" day, the flavor isn't as strong, but it's still great. ALSO GOOD - Wagyu Beef Tartare: Beef tartare is always delicious. Their version is a bit heavy, as there is a generous amount of aioli incorporated into the dish. - Hollander Mussels: I've ordered this a couple of times. The mussels are okay, but the broth really makes up for it. I love dipping my bread in it. - Charred Corn: If you're looking for gourmet elote, this is it. Most of their wood oven roasted veggie options are quite good and you can't go wrong with any of it. - Margherita Pizza: Works as a great appetizer for a large party. - Pacific Rockfish: Another wonderful entree. It didn't make the cut for "must get" because the dish itself isn't as filling as the other options and I'm not the biggest fan of rockfish. However, I will admit that they do a great job on it and my friends always love this. - Oysters (during happy hour): Great steal for fresh oysters. - Warm Peach Cobbler: If you still have room for dessert, I would get their peach cobbler. PASS - Escargot: A bit bland and flavorless. Would not recommend. - NY Strip: Compared to everything else on their menu, this is a bit of a disappointment. It's not bad, but it's not great. Went here for a friend birthday on a Saturday, brunch time.. We place a reservation way in advanced and we specifically chose to be seated indoor because would love to enjoy the ambiance. Just a little disappointed that they sat us outside by the pool area. It was too crowded. I had the steak with hashbrown, forgot what it was called in the menu but it was good. The service was pretty slow, took forever to get a coffee refill but the waiters were nice and accommodating though. It is challenging to find street parking during the weekend. Of course if you're into this IG photos the trade off is super sun in your face. But yeah the food: Loved these: French Onion Soup to start, Beef Carpaccio (chunky, not thinned), short ribs my FAV. Dine LA Experience: My boyfriend and I came here for date night on their Dine LA deal. We saw their menu and it looked so good: a three-course meal for $55 (menu attached). In summary of what I have written below: Dine LA is about the food and not about the experience, and restaurants know that and take advantage of that, especially with the low prices being offered. Food: The food was amazing! (Pictures attached with descriptions) The flavors of the food were so rich and the quality of the food was quite high. We finished everything. It was definitely worth the $55. We also ordered two drinks (Sandy Beach and Old Fashioned), and they were $16 each. Pricey drinks for not very good quality. Service: The Dine LA menu automatically adds a 20% gratuity to your check. This was not disclosed on the online Dine LA website - we only discovered this upon arriving and seeing the menu in person. It is my personal belief that this is why our waiter did not pay attention to us. While he talked up his other customers and consistently asked whether they needed anything, he did nothing more than take our orders and serve us our food. He was pleasant, but no small talk, no recommendation, and didn't ask us in between plates whether we needed anything. I get it - why put in effort if you're already guaranteed 20% gratuity? But this was extremely disappointing and the primary reason for giving a three-star review. The only person who cared at all about us was the hostess who checked on us twice. Ambiance and seating: All seating was outside (technically) and they had string lights with hanging plants. It was very cute. However, we were seated in the very corner of the patio. We had no view of the pool, the area was quite dark, and we were seated right next to where the waiters input the orders and where they came out with food and came in with dirty dishes. Even though we had made reservations, they had just cleaned off the table right when we arrived and the seats and table were damp when sat down. Again, I believe this disappointing treatment was due to us being there for the Dine LA experience. Parking: Valet at hotel. Was $10. Usually it's $20? Recommendation: While the food was great, it's not worth a trip back for me. I feel the experience was very off-putting. The only reason we had any kind of good time was because we actively made it a good time for ourselves. I've shared my experience here with my friends and co-workers already who have inquired about which restaurants to try on the Dine LA experience, and the restaurant likely won't mind since they're looking for higher-class clientele anyways. It just would have been nice to be treated equally, especially if we were required to give 20% gratuity. I would have given two stars, but the food pushed me to give three. Oh my goodness, where do I even start with this review? First and foremost, this was possibly the best overall dining service I've ever had, Los Angeles or otherwise. Our server, Christopher, was the epitome of jolliness and glee -- I cannot stress enough how wonderful he is. The owner (or manager, not sure) is also fantastic - he approached us initially to ask how we were doing (this is becoming more and more of a rarity these days and I can't say how much I appreciate it) and spoke with the utmost sincerity. It's abundantly clear that the people who run this restaurant truly pour love and heart into it. As far as food goes, we were absolutely delighted. We started with a pot of coffee and a mimosa for me; the coffee was generously served (and left at the table) in an insulated container, and the mimosa had just the right champagne/OJ ratio. Food-wise, we both ordered the eggs benny and the seasonal stone fruit and strawberry toast. The eggs benny were scrumptious -- they do a jalapeño hollandaise that's to die for. The Canadian bacon was thick and well-made, and the potatoes served were unbelievably crispy and a really unique red/burgundy colored variety. The stone fruit/strawberry toast was just divine, and served with pistachios, fresh mint, cut peaches and strawberries, either ricotta or mascarpone cheese (can't recall), and some type of sweet syrup, all served on a thick slice of bread (not sure the type of bread but it was wonderful). I can't think of a better and fresher sweet summer brunch treat. It paired perfectly with our eggs bennies and made for a well-rounded meal. The ambiance is wonderful - the restaurant overlooks the hotel pool and the tables are appropriately spaced to accommodate for Covid times. There are also a number of hanging plants that really add to the fresh feel of the space. After speaking with the owner/manager, we learned that much of the building is very old, with touches of new finishings here and there. It's really a special space and I can't wait to return. My one small qualm is the temperature - because it's an open air restaurant, it was more humid than I'd have preferred, but that's more of a personal preference. The food and service were decent. Certainly, everything looked wonderful and trendy. I am a bit annoyed though at how they dealt with my TravelZoo voucher. It was expired, but the fine print said that the base value would always be maintained and can be used anytime even after expiration, which was fine to me. But they said that they weren't going to honor that and I paid out of pocket, Luckily, I told TravelZoo and they confirmed they were supposed to honor the base value and refunded my money. Truthfully, if TravelZoo were just going to refund me, I would not have made the trip. The food was nothing too special, and it feels like you're paying to be in the "cool" community. But I found the place full of vapid, superficial, typical LA wannabe "cool" people. Not worth it. The food was excellent, as usual, but this time the service was abysmal. Took way too long to take our drink order. The bottle of wine was never poured. The plates weren't taken away. The empty appetizer plates were still there when the main Courses arrived. Worst of all, there was no professional charm or care like usually exists (and should be expected when you're paying $60 for an entree) . And I could explain it away if it was really busy. It's a bummer how downhill the Fig has gone considering it has so much potential. The restaurant itself has great ambiance, and the food can be great. However Fig struggles with consistency in food and service. The servers are great, but they are always spread thin. I feel like I'm always flagging down a refill or asking for small plates for sharable like oysters. My most recent Mother's Day brunch had all of the above, but this time my meal was disgusting. My burger was so undercooked and the meat was slimy. It took forever to get someone's attention, they made another one 30 minutes later but I was too grossed out and full on fries to eat it. For Mother's Day kids there was a stand where kids could make flower arrangements. Not that we were invited to do so but the host was making one for another guest so we just followed along. The last thing I'll say is that if you ask for a substitution, or for something that use to be on the menu-the level of superiority attitude is astounding. My husband ordered a coffee but didn't like the taste after taking a sip so he asked for a latte instead. We'd assumed that the original drip coffee wouldn't be included on the bill since he was only given a spot of coffee to begin with and had only taken a taste. Nope, it cost $7 for that sip. I ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes and hubby tried the banana Nutella waffles, and we shared a side of the potatoes so we could taste them. All of the food was really good. I'm not sure I could pick a favorite. Maybe the tomato salad? Night two was pizza, the wood fired carrots, and the lobster Cobb salad. The lobster was perfectly cooked and the tarragon dressing had just the right amount of zing. There was no shortage of basil on the pizza, which reminded me of what I have when I'm in Italy. The carrots were so good that I refilled to share them. I found my new favorite place for happy hour! It's from 5pm-6pm every day. Most things on the menu are half price, including the drinks! Way to make me happy, Fig!! It's not easy to just walk in and get a table, even for happy hour. We were there early and lots of people were already waiting Sure, you can get a table, but it's not a simple process. You can make a reservation for happy hour and I highly recommend you do. Trust me, if you don't it's a little chaotic trying to get a table...or you can just sit at the bar. Other than getting a table everything was fantastic. Our server, Jamal was super cool and super efficient. He doesn't even need to write anything down when you order. He remembers everything and never misses a beat. Try to get his table when you go there. He's awesome! We started out with drinks. I had an Old Fashioned. It's the best one I've ever had. It's only $7 on the happy hour menu. The magic in it is they add a little fig sweetener. It's by far the best Old Fashioned I've ever had. They only use one large ice cube which really helps preserve the flavor. Like I said almost all the items on the menu are half price for happy hour, especially the appetizer sized items. The top four items in the "Large Plate" section are half price. You'll have no trouble finding plenty to eat at the 50% discount. We had the roasted beets, the charred octopus (so delicious we ordered another), and the Jidori chicken (from the Large Plate menu). All were off the charts delicious. We also had some cheese. You can let them create an assortment for you or you can create your own mix for just $3.50 each on the HH menu. My favorite was the Sbrinz, Alpage, SW. If you like hard cheese, this is a must try. I'm not going to on and on about the food because other reviews cover it very well. I'm just saying this is a great HH and dining experience. My second time here and a much better experience: The food was really good but extremely expensive. There's NO way I could justify coming here when it is not happy hour and when it's not half price. The service was good and we didn't have to wait at all on a Saturday at 5pm. They validate your valet but it's really expensive. I paid $18 for valet for 2.5 hours. The valet charged me $37 and was really rude and I told her it's validated and and rolled her eyes. I would come back for a special occasion. The food was good but really not for that price. Giving 3 stars because the very first time I came here it was horrible service. The waiter didn't stop in on us once. Everything was delicious! The meatballs were so juicy. They are also hefty! For the price, you get a lot of food! I really liked the mussels. The sauce is delectable! And the rustic bread to soak up all of the left over mussel broth. The lamb pasta tasted lamb-y, which I actually really like, but might be a bit much for others. Starter: the Dungeness crab salad - light, mixed perfectly and the dressing underscored the crisp, fresh taste. Bread bowl and pizza - I am a fitness buff and never cheat with bread or sugar. This was worth it. The pita is baked to perfection and doesn't leave you bloated or itchy like other wheat ingredients. It melted in my mouth. The smoke mezcal pepper drink is pure heaven on earth - smooth, well blended and sublime. I didn't feel hung over, either! The scallops, broccoli and cheese plate are beyond compare. Savory, well selected and ample portions - highly impressive. Dessert: green tea cake with white chocolate pieces -- such a delight and it looks like a sculpture. The best cake I've had - besides my wedding cake. It's sweet and not overpowering. I sampled pistachio ice cream, cherry vanilla and a scoop of delectable fig caramel - a party in my mouth and a souvenir long after digested. I can still taste it - creamy, sweet and pure. The pistachio scoop is hands down the best ice cream ever sampled. I've been to the il saint louis in Paris where handmade ice cream is king. This pistachio blend should win awards! They are everything with that everything bagel. My favorite and they give you the cream cheese plus all the jams! I love it, just love it when I can drop cubes of sugar into my coffee. I felt so refined as we enjoyed the brisk air and Cod pond. Smitten with the outdoor seating and option to overlook the pool. The service was a little slow in the morning. We didn't get attended until the manager asked if we had been helped. Second visit was much better but we sat at the bar. The bartenders were ALL excellent! The donuts yum! Came for the the infamous Fig at Five happy hour where everything was half off on the menu from 5-6pm every day! I came here on a Friday so the rush of people was real waiting for the restaurant to let people in! We sat at a table right by the window with the pool view so it was perfect!!! The servers were very nice but the food service was pretty slow since it was packed. We waited around 20 minutes between each group if dishes but the food here is solid! Mushroom pizza - delish!! The bread is light and thin and the combo of the mushrooms and cheese and of course truffles is a must have! Kanpachi - nice little raw fish dish with strawberries, and when I saw little it was LITTLE. Nothing amazing so i wouldn't order it again Oysters - yaaaas the oysters of the day were kushi and naked cowboys! Very good Stone fruit salad - delicious with goat cheese and pistachios Corn bisque - not very good, it was super sweet and took a very long time for them to make Cacio e pepe - one of my faves here at fig! Pasta was Al dented with the right about of cheese and pepper yum! Lobster rigatoni - my other fave here!! The sauce was deliciously savory and the chunks of lobster meat was amazing Squid ink crab pasta - this one was too salty for me unfortunately. Romance, Santa Monica and Brunch. If these are the 3 things you are looking for, look no further. The chef here is a Lebanese fella, Yousef Ghalaini, so most of the flavors you find here have a middle eastern impact. Growing up working at his father's bakery in Lebanon, and later working in Michelin starred establishments, he made Fig a mixture of the many flavors he probably experienced throughout the career. The food, the drink, the vibe, it all just screams "cool". Atmosphere (5/5): this is easy. It's beautiful. See the pictures. Hanging plants on the ceiling, a tropical feeling pool right next to it and a very pleasant vibe. Relaxing and beautiful. Breakfast Burrito (3/5): despite being an interesting preparation, with hummus and arugula, I frankly did not think it was that great tasting of a dish. It was fine, but I'd def skip out on it next time. It was a bit bland overall. Shakshuka (4/5): great preparation of this Mediterranean and middle eastern classic. Bursting with tomato flavor, spices and served beautifully. Tomato Basil Soup (5/5): easily the best I've ever had as far as tomato soups go. Yes, I realize it's probably the melter butter or oil that made it taste so much better, but it was just spectacular. Right amount of citrus balanced with the flavor profile of a tomato created a true masterpiece. Drinks (5/5): Seriously awesome creations. Vodka, aperol, prosecco and strawberries. Ugh, I'll need to recreate this at home. Service (4/5): our waiter was awesome. Easygoing and attentive fella. The girls working the front might need some more training. We had to wait a bit long to get their attention to even have a chance to say that we have a reservation. No acknowledgement of any kind was a little unpleasant. However, it did work out in the end.
