Just had lunch here. The tabbouli salad with added steak was delicious, loads of different textures and flavors, and massive. Super filling but not heavy and really nicely put together. The salad is mixed really well and they offer a very generous portion of steak. I honestly think two people could split that salad (with some added protein) and an appetizer and be quite satisfied. We also shared the shishito peppers, warm olives, and spicy fries. The fries and shishito peppers are well done, but nothing you couldn't get several other places. The warm olives were a surprise, I really enjoyed them. Service was a bit spotty. Our appetizers took a while to arrive and when they did we received our entrees maybe five minutes later, meaning we barely had time to enjoy the apps. Not to mention the table was awkwardly overflowing with plates. Our server checked in a bit, but I had to hail him down for refills of my drink a couple times. I enjoyed the meal, but admittedly I didn't pay for it (business lunch). I'm not sure how I'd feel shelling out almost $30 for that salad, but admittedly it was really delicious. I'm definitely going to try and wrangle another business lunch at Fig again soon! read more

We looooove fig! Eric's Stash is a must try every time because there is always a new ridiculously awesome cheese! The cocktails are on point- the bartenders are so amazing and are constantly innovating. The menu has progressed in the last few years and I love all the Mediterranean inspiration. Still the best happy hour in LA county. The broccoli was amazing- even my husband, who was not exited about me ordering it, ended up literally rubbing his finger on the plate to get the rest of the sauce. John, our server, is on top of it despite being really busy. How he manages to be around for your every whim is a true talent- especially with how busy it was. Came for the HH which is only at the bar and everything is half price on the menu except the pizza and only the first three items on the main course menu. I tried the chicken and it was cooked to perfection but wasn't to thrilled with the side dish of garbanzo beans and onions. Wish they had mashed potatoes instead. I came here with my parents on a Saturday night, the restaurant was buzzing and had such a wonderful atmosphere. The food was impeccable, I had the Maine lobster rigatoni which I think I will be dreaming about for years to come. We also sampled a selection of wonderful cheeses and charcuterie which were explained to us by our wonderful server, Matt. Desert was quite the treat as well, cookies, cake and ice cream - something for everyone. Couldn't recommend this place more. Great for families, date nights, celebrations of any occasion. My husband and I have been frequenting Fig for happy hour since we moved to Santa Monica 4 years ago. We've watched the food menu change over the years, but the staff and cocktails have always been consistent and awesome. In a metro where things change more frequently than I feel comfortable with most times, this place has been our solid go-to for meeting up with friends and has become our gold standard for what cocktails and bar service should be like. Sure, we might be serious creatures of habit as well, but we know what we like-- and it's this place. Before we learned each others' names, the bartenders knew us by our drinks of choice. But now that we're officially on first name basis... Thank you, Rio and Carson, for making all of our Sunday evenings great! While staying at The Fairmont, I booked brunch for me and my boyfriend. Both of us were really excited to try FIG as it was our anniversary weekend and we were treating ourselves to a staycation. Located off the Fairmont lobby, the interior of FIG is so welcoming and fresh - plants are hanging everywhere! It took us a moment to be seated as it seemed to be a bit understaffed. We chose to sit outside as it was a bit stuffy inside. The menu has a somewhat "basic" quality to it, but still everything looked delicious. I chose the Brioche French Toast that was smothered with Nutella & brandied apples - OMG THIS WAS INCREDIBLE!!!!!!! I'm a huge fan of french toast and this one was certainly one for the books. It was gooey. It was so soft and fluffy. Lord, it was everything that I could have possibly wanted and more! My boyfriend had the breakfast burrito and that too was so yummy. I had to pause and collect my feelings before I could have a proper reaction to what I had just tasted. The service here was solid, but I think that they could have used more people working on a Sunday morning. There were moments when we had to try multiple times to catch our waiter's attention - mostly because we were sitting outside - but I understood that it was just super busy. Pretty place, mediocre service, below mediocre food. Made a reservation on open table requesting outdoor seating for 4 ppl 6:45pm on a Sunday and waited an hour before we were seated. Luckily there was bar seating while we waited, but 2 of us didn't like our drinks and our glasses sat empty while the bartender ignored us for 20 min. The lamb bolognese tasted like bad quality meat. The cacio e pepe was Not cacio e pepe. We all wanted pizza after we finished our entrees. They did bring out warm chocolate cookies for the anniversary which were yummy. Wen't to the fig for happy hour Saturday July 14th. with a friend and had a fantastic time. The ambiance, service, and quality of the Charcuterie Board was amazing. For cocktails, a must try is a refreshing summer drink called Raspberry Rhubarb Beret. Delicious. We were looking for a white wine for our cheese plate and were indecisive on what to order. We asked our server for suggestions who actually went out of her way to ask her Food and Beverage director, Linda, on a wine that would compliment the cheese plate. I must say, if you go to the Fig and have a cheese plate, make sure you order a bottle of Casolare as well! Fantastic!!! read more

When: A Saturday evening Hostess/And All Employees: Very nice, polite, kind, and a joy. Restaurant feeling when you walk in and while you sit: I love it minus some of the clientele. Food: Not great at all. Overpriced bland food. The clientele at this restaurant is a mix of nice quiet mature/older people and the annoying college kids/20's/early 30s loud crowd. By that I mean, there was a table behind us with a guy cursing and the girls taking selfies like there is no tomorrow. The table in front of us had a group of maybe late 20s early 30 yr olds that were a bit loud and obnoxious having dinner. I believe a lot of the annoying crowd from the bungalow come to have dinner at the FIG then go back to the Bungalow. Came here twice during our stay at the Fairmont. Dined during 5-6 special. All our their drinks, kids menu, appetizers, salads, shared plates, and top three entrees were 50% off. Pizzas, bread balloon and the rest of the entrees were regular price. I only enjoyed the tuna crudo and salad that had persimmons in it. The shishito peppers and clams were just ok. Enjoyed their breakfast much more. Really liked their lemon ricotta pancakes.. So yummy. Have them while they're still warm. read more

Where. Do. I. Begin? There are very few things in life I look forward to as much as I do as eating dinner here. I bring visiting friends and family as much as I can - nothing beats it! The food is delectable. Seriously, have you had the lamb here? You have to get the lamb. And the bread balloon is new, but oh my God, you've never tasted bread like this. You also have to get the pork belly, and the mussels, and the burrata. The tomato salad (when it's in season) makes tomato-haters tomato-lovers. Oh- and desserts. When my dad comes to visit and we go here, he ends up stealing mine. So we get another.. and sometimes another after that. When you sit down, the pool and bungalows in your view make you feel like you're in paradise. I highly recommend checking out the sunset while you're here. This spot makes me happy! read more

Why make a reservation? Expect to wait despite scheduling a reservation. Additionally, expect to be seated at terrible tables and to be served by waiters who won't ask you how you like your meat cooked. This was by far one of the worst restaurants I have been to in terms of service. We arrived a few minutes late for our reservation (12:52 for a 12:45 reservation), usually that is acceptable but this hostess was clearly off her game. No tables inside were open so we informed her that we were comfortable waiting at the bar. 15 minutes later we are still waiting and the restaurant is beginning to empty...although the waters are taking quite a long time to clear them. The hostess finally comes up to us to seat us but places us at a table right next to the door to the garden which defeated the purpose of us waiting for an inside table. We sit down at the bar again and told the hostess we were fine waiting for the table that we wanted (as we said this the empty tables were still empty & needing to be cleared)... Five minutes later after making eye contact with the manager we were finally seated only to be greeted with terrible service. We sent back our burgers back twice: the first time, the waiter took our order but did not ask how we wanted our burgers cooked - we didn't realize this until our burgers came out very rare.... we sent them back and asked for our burgers to be cooked until medium. There are some restaurants that are so good that I can't wait to share with others. I can happily say that Fig is one of them! I was told that the restaurant made some changes with the chef and menu so I was curious to see how it would be. I also sometimes am wary of restaurants in hotels due to previous times where the food or the experience didn't meet up to my expectations but that did not happen here. The restaurant is also super cute and I really enjoyed dining here. Below are some highlights from the meal: Black Mission Figs Pizza - We almost didn't order this and that would have been a huge mistake because this was absolutely incredible! It's actually my favorite item from the meal which is saying a lot because I really enjoyed everything from this meal. The figs work perfectly with the cheese and the honey...highly recommended. Note: This pizza may sadly be off the menu now as I went here a couple months ago and I believe this was a seasonal item. Bread Balloon & spreads - The presentation of the bread balloon is really fantastic, plus the spreads are amazing. My favorite spreads were the eggplant salad and the marinated lentils (I usually don't even care for lentils). Angry Maine Lobster - I personally don't order lobster very often as I feel that for the price tag, it's usually not worth it. The server highly recommended the lobster so I gave it a try and did not regret getting it. It had really great flavor and was cooked perfectly. Then a salad of old bitter greens with an ok vinaigrette and stale chalky peas. Mushroom dish tasted like it was canned, very chewy and lumped together in thick cream sauce. Scallop main was soggy, really ruining a potentially nice crisp scallop, devoid of multiple parts of the dish listed on the menu, with a poorly mixed vinegar base. Nice location and all, but sub par high end food really. Not sure how this is acceptable for the price, but the location is very nice. read more

It's okay to play hooky if you're with your boss! He announced that we were all to turn off our computers for the rest of the afternoon to do one of my favorite pastimes in the world. Shop and Eat. I know, sometimes I feel like a full blown renaissance woman. After an afternoon at 3rd Street, we walked over to the Fairmont where our glasses of nice vino at FIG awaited us. I loved the overall feeling of this restaurant. I seriously felt removed from the city and on vacation. The 4 of us were seated on the patio with a stunning view of the pool. Service was very crisp and professional, although it's weird to see them in jeans under their aprons. Here are some of the highlights and recommendations: * Get the Chopped Salad. I looked around the room and everyone seemed to have ordered this! It's got some interesting textures with hazelnut, avocado, corn, tossed in a delicious lemon vinaigrette and fried shredded carrot strewn on the top. This was my favorite item * Get the Local Cheese Plate! The cheese presentation here is great. They even give you a diagram so you know which cheeses you are noshing on. The honey and fig jelly it comes with is really a perfect harmony to compliment the cheeses. I even liked goat cheese for the first time ever. * Mini Corn Dogs - these were a ton of fun, made with kurobuta sausage * Grilled Artichoke Salad - To die for! Real fresh local ingredients that came sitting on top of smoked Greek cheese. We ordered other things like the Bacon Wrapped Bacon which was pork belly wrapped in bacon with tomatoes and avocado mousse. It was pretty much a BLT without the bread and a heart attack waiting to happen! Wasn't into it. The bread here is served warm and came paired with a delicious Balsamic Butter with Chives. There was a couple behind me dining where the girl was around 22 and the man looked older than my dad. I turned to my boss and asked him, "hey, do you think they're father and daughter?" He rolled his eyes at me and responded, "oh please. NO." So needless to say, the crowd here in general is quite interesting. read more

It is not exactly a rare thing to find me getting excited about food... I mean I am by all accounts a food fanatic. I love everything about food, I mean obviously the way it tastes, but the feeling you get when you try something new and can barely hold back the spontanious groans of pleasure. I love being wowed by food, and there has yet to be one thing on this Earth that has been able to WOW me like it. Nothing with such a spectrum of possibilites, nothing else has been able to conceal surprises like a well thought out dish. I am happy to say that I have been wowed by FIG. Simplicity in their menu seems to mask the complexity of their flavors, the way my tastbuds cried out in delight with every bite. The salty sweetness of the blue cheese stuffed dates, the perfect combination of textures in the fresh beet and pistachio salad, the heavy and quite sinful yet simply delicious pastaless lasagna, the spicy fish tacos complimented by the cool cilantro crema, the wine steamed mussels, and the creamy red beet risotto. All of these flavors so big, so perfectly crafted, no matter the size or style of the dish. As I write this review, my mouth is watering. And as if the food was not enough, the property is beautiful, just a block off the water, in the kind of elegant hotel you would expect from a Fairmont. Easy valet parking is only $5 when you are visiting the restaurant and in this area, I suggest you just do it or you will be driving around for a while looking for other options. I hope you get the chance to try out FIG, it is definitly one of my favorite places in LA. read more

To preface and be completely fair, if you can find a place with mussels better than Tasca, I'll blow your dad. I have never been the greatest fan of mussels but ever since having the perfect mussels at Tasca I say this is a must order at any restaurant. Unfortunately, the mussels at FIG (though the portion was huge) was a miss. The mussels were small, slightly overcooked, and dry. The broth was not as tasty and the bread was meh. With that ONLY negative aside, FIG is a great choice for after work drinks, romantic dinner, GNO, and small get togethers. The customer service here is phenomenal. From us wanting to change our reservations from 8 to 2 tables of 4 to avoid set menus, to letting us stay WAY after closing, FIG is gracious and quick on their feet. We literally went from one table to putting FOUR tables together AND ordered off the regular menu. (Thank you.) I thought the bread in the little packet pre dinner was a nice touch. Love the arugula butter. Though it's better when it's frozen. Besides the mussels, the other appetizers we ordered was a great choice. In fact, everything on the menu is something I'd order. Great selections. The chef focuses on fresh ingredients that are seasonal and incorporates that into the menu (like JiRaffe but WAY better). We shared the braised tongue with 'tomatillo and breakfast radish'. The tongue was so moist with a spicy kick. If you love lengua tacos or just tongue in general, get this ASAP. For my main, I got the fourteen ounce Entrecote (which the waiter explained to me was a Ribeye) with Blue Cheese Butter. If you know me, then you'd know there's not a steak I can't finish. FIG's portions are humungous. As delicious and perfectly cooked as my steak was, I barely finished half and less than half my fries. The fries are delicious. Tried my friend's duck and it was perfectly cooked as well. Ray came out to meet us and take pictures (we're asian. Shutup). Staff is really super nice and I can't stress enough how efficient and accommodating they are. Huge portions, fair prices, delicious food. FIG is my new fav in Santa Monica. read more

Dear FIG -- I feel really betrayed by you after last night's visit. I've been coming in since 2009 and have done nothing but raved about FIG (heck, I even came in this past Saturday and had a nice time). Anyway.... First, you took our party of 17 and you steam rolled us into taking the "Feed Me" option for $75 a head. Then, over the course of 3.5 hours (which probably would have been 5 had I said nothing) you provided us with horrible service, attitude, and an overall horrible evening (not to mention that it took 3.5 hours). Seriously, thank you for ruining an important evening. In addition: 1. The food & drink was not worth the $2000 check. That's right, TWO THOUSAND. "Feed me" promised food for an adventurous palate. What we got were items off the menu and a chicken dish that, based on how sloppy it was, is probably used for your staff family meal. I literally feel robbed. 2. I specifically told the server that we had 2 vegetarians and 1 gluten free. These diners literally had NO FOOD for more than half the service. Unacceptable. 3. The middle of the table was never offered drinks during the second half. Unfortunately this is where I, the guy footing the bill, was sitting and despite me calling this to the waiter's attention. And funny thing: I mention this to the waiter and he still doesn't offer us drinks!!! Not good. 4. Your staff were like deer in headlights. I dine out a lot and I'm really a patient person. Sometimes stuff goes wrong, I get it...but issues should just be handled automatically (e.g. tell me there's a backup in the kitchen...bring us some bread after we complain about the lack of food...just do SOMETHING). You shouldn't pretend like nothing happened, as your staff did, when I brought up the issues. Maybe your manager should introduce himself, rather than me having to flag him down, and then check back to see if things are alright. But no, he -- and I think our server to some extent -- were avoiding us like the plague. Look, if you can't execute, either a) don't take our reservation OR b) don't put the hard sell on us to do something that isn't going to work. Seriously though, shame on you. My husband and I love fig. We've been here so many times and the happy hour deal is always too good to miss. When we in the area, we always do in for a drink. They make the best cocktails and during happy hour, it's a no brainer. The foie gras, octopus, spicy fries, beet dish and chicken are all favourites. On our last visit, Tony was our server and he is by far the best waiter we've had. He was friendly, outgoing, on top of every order and checked up on us without being over bearing in any way. The best experience we've had to date! The restaurant is inside of the Fairmont Hotel. There's a view of the hotel pool and the space is lovely. No need to dress up, but the space calls for business casual if you like to wear a good dress or pair of slacks. I highly recommend stopping by for a drink and bite. read more

And there are some great vegan options. I and my sister both had the vegetable curry; it was really great comfort food and tasted like something that I would want to make for myself at home. I've been hearing the buzz about FIG and I finally had an opportunity to check it out for dinner last week. Matthew Lehman, the Director of Food and Beverage of FIG selected us a great pinot noir, called the Bonhan-Dillon, from Hirsh Vineyards. He explained the story of the wine label art and I was instantly in love with the story line. It would be wonderful to collect these labels. We were given a cherry salad as an amuse bouche. I rather liked it since usually amuse bouches tend to showcase the chef's talents but this one emphasized the bounty of the day. Mathew explained he and the chef, Ray Garcia are all about a farmers' market driven restaurant where the menu changes weekly. We also had olives and cheese, oh so much cheese. Fig is known for their cheese and instead of calling their cheese guy a cheese monger, locals call him "Cheesus." These were so great that we also had a cheese plate for dessert. We also had another appetizer, Santa Barbara grilled prawns. I loved the prawns! Perfectly sweet and very fresh. Of the cocktails, I really enjoyed the Blueberries and Thyme. Like the food, the cocktails feature lots of fresh ingredients. Matthew went over the menu with us and he mentioned several things that caught our interest. The blistered romaine salad (aka deconstructed Caesar salad) was great but we were in high anticipation of the BACON WRAPPED BACON. It is pork belly wrapped with the thinnest bacon I'd ever seen which left it really "bacon-y." Really great appetizer or perfect for a light meal. Did I just say light? I mean, lighter. My table mates had the steak, beet risotto and the special that day, rabbit. But my eyes lit up when I saw they had meatloaf. And not just any meatloaf but short ribs and pancetta meatloaf. This was easily my favorite dish of the night and a friend kept stealing bites of it. I thought his fries for his steak were great, the beet risotto had great texture and another enjoyed her rabbit very much. I immediately zeroed in on the nutella and chcoolate tart for dessert. It was scrumptious. I loed that marshmallow cream on it. I really think FIG is a great deal. A lot of times, hotel restaurants are meh but this was definitely a a 5-star meal. Plus, you're so close to the ocean. Did I mention free parking? The restaurant offers 3-hour validated parking. Plenty of time to enjoy multiple courses. I heard they're starting a hot dog cart just in time for Memorial Day. They'll have seven different hot dogs including a Chicago dog, a LA dog (turkey with avocado) and a signature FIG dog featuring comte fondue, bacon habenero and fritos. I hate to say it, but we had a really disappointing experience at Fig recently. I haven't been there for a few years now but I was really excited to try their current menu. Unfortunately, the only thing we ended up enjoying was the ambiance. We work in the industry so when it comes to any "hiccups" due to Covid we try to be super understanding, but what we experienced should not be any excuse. It started with taking 10+ minutes for a server to even acknowledge the table. The server that we were told would be right with us, began to walk towards our table and then pivoted back around and asked another server to greet us (it was so bizarre and weird, especially after waiting so long). We then ordered drinks followed by some appetizers, it took 20+ minutes for drinks to come, and our appetizers were served first. We had the radicchio salad, which was served with goat cheese but it has such a strong flavor of blue cheese it totally threw off the dish. We then received the calamari, or also known as a pile of fried breadcrumbs. We received it and literally, there was nothing but fried breadcrumbs and small dime-sized pieces of chewy and cold calamari (I wish I took a picture to post). It was horrible, so we asked the (I think) manager if we could get a replacement and without any type of apology he came out like "I guess we can replace for you", feeling so uncomfortable for asking, as if we ordered breadcrumbs as a dish. When we got the new calamari it was SO different and way better (but even then, not a great). Nothing else was very enjoyable either, including the cacio e pepe which had no salt, hardly any pepper, and was basically like a glorified mac + cheese, not good with a weird flavor. Throughout our time our server was switched THREE times. No one asked how our food was. We had to hound someone down to order another drink. It was such a disappointing experience and they really didn't have it together. To top it off, they give you the check (after waiting 10+ minutes for it after asking for it) of what the food would be worth (if not Fig at 5 pricing), to encourage you to tip on that amount. But it was honestly comical given what we experienced. At that point, we didn't even know who our server was or who we were tipping. read more

Loves it! I'm a FIG fan! The food is delish, the restaurant is chic and fun, service is awesome, and it's in my neighborhood. What's not to love? I went to FIG with my bf at 9 pm on a Wednesday. The place was busy, which always sends good vibes my way. The versatile atmosphere lends itself to a variety of occassions. We felt just fine being a bit dressed up, but could easily come here on a cool date or casual lunch or dinner with the family. The bar was about half full, and there is plenty of room for hanging out if you want to go just for drinks and apps. The restaurant isn't too big - maybe 30-40 tables - with dark wood floors, high ceilings, marble tables. The decor is chic and "smart casual" for a hotel restaurant, which I quite liked. I want to give a shout out to the awesome service, which started straight from when we were promptly seated. Our waiter Alex was incredibly helpful, knew the menu inside out, was detailed in his descriptions of the dishes. They were quick to refill the water, and in general the timing was just right - a little quick but not rushed. We decided to start with cocktails instead of wine. I tried the signature Fig Mojito, made with fresh figs, which was great. BF tried a blended blackberry drink that I could drink for breakfast, it's so refreshing. Loved the mini baguettes in the individual bags - so cute! We were both iffy about the argula olive oil butter - tasted like wheatgrass to me (so it must be healthy!) I also liked the amuse bouche of mango with a special oil and hot pepper (a Spanish name I can't recall) - the sweetness of the mango with the honess of the pepper was a cool combination. Now for the main event - every dish had a wonderful complement of savory/sweet flavors and tasted incredibly fresh. Appetizers: Tarte Flambee - yum yum yum! Like a very thin pizza with crispy crust and bleu cheese, bacon, figs...no way for it to be bad. Loved the salty/sweet combination. Grilled Mortadella with Pink Lady Apples - loved the smokiness of the grilled meat with sweetness of apples. Entrees: Sablefish with Mashed Potatoes - my bf ate this pretty quickly and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had one bite and I loved the flavor of the tomatoes with the fish - made the tomatoes taste more sweet. The crispiness of the skin was a tad salty, but not overwhelmingly so. Steak Frites - I devoured the 8 oz bavette, which our waiter described as a version of hanger steak. It was fall-off-the-bone tender with wonderful flavor. They offered two side sauces - bleu cheese butter, which was a bit rich for my taste, and a peppercorn-cognac sauce, which was also rich but better complemented the steak - I wanted to drink the sauce. Frites were perfectly crispy, tossed with salt, crispy sage and parsley. It was a huge portion and glad I had help in finishing it. Dessert: Banana Split. Loved the pistachio brittle. Banana was flambeed, crispy and warm, great contrast to rich vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce. Good sweet ending. All in all we had a fabulous time. Ended up eating FIG's food down at the lobby seating area. Had the shakshuka and lamb pizza. The lamb pizza sounded strange on paper but was delicious. Service was a bit slow, but the outdoor area is a nice place to sit and relax for brunch or drinks. At the main FIG restaurant, the hostess was incredibly rude and pretentious, so all in all for FIG, 1 star, for the lobby seating area 3 stars. Given how rude the hostess was at FIG, especially relative to the rest of the staff in the hotel who were all really polite and professional, I would not go out of my way to return to FIG. read more
