This place is a scam!!! I came here with a couple friends for happy hour on Friday evening. Everything is supposed to be half off. Our subtotal came up to $85.50. However, they ended up charging us $43.30 for gratuity ((50.7% of the subtotal ) and $13.19 on taxes (15.43% of the subtotal). In other words, they were scamming us to 66% premium on top of the subtotal, instead of just the 10.25% taxes in Santa Monica and discretionary tip. When we brought this up to the waiter and manager, they initially refused to budge. However, after I threatened to take this to Better Business Bureau, they did correct the bill. I am sure they are following this shady business practice on other customers also, and most don't even notice it. After the manager gave us the new bill, she asked us to leave the table without giving us any time to sort the bill amount. I was asked to sit in the bar to verify the numbers, even though there were plenty of empty tables around us. It is shocking that an upscale hotel like Fairmont would allow their restaurants to dupe their customers with such shady business practices! read more

I've had this restaurant bookmarked as a place to try on the West side, and was really excited for the experience and I had saw on TikTok about their bread balloon with eggplant hummus (seasonal, and wasn't on the menu this visit). I made a reservation for noon on a Saturday (later updated to let them know I was running late, and to move to 12:30pm) but we still faced about more than 30 minutes for someone to come to our table to take our order. Then it took another hour or so to get all of our food and drinks. We spent almost 3 hours just to be done with, and it was noticeably clear there was not enough staff working that day. My friend ordered a pizza, I got the mushroom & spinach w/cheese toast, and shared a ceviche as appetizer. The ceviche was good, but was served with only 2 medium sized tortilla chips so we had to ask for more and that took quite a bit of time. Food was great and big portions, had a nice presentation, and my cucumber margarita was refreshing/pretty to look at. We sat inside the restaurant, which had tons of plants hanging around us and was nice for us to admire while we waited. We also sat near a glass window where you could see the poolside (I guess this is attached to a hotel) with a good amount of tourists lounging and taking a dip in the pool. Our waiter let us know he wanted to give us free drinks on the house for having a long wait for service (we didn't complain or mention anything), so kudos for the staff on being aware while remaining professional. I appreciated how considerate & sympathetic to the customer's experience, as I'm sure it's not within their control on the lack of staff they had that weekend. I hope the management try to hire more staff though. Hope that the next time I do decide to give it another chance that it'll be better. read more

There were 4 of us- we ordered 2 drinks each (Proseccos, an old fashion, spiked chai, black bear, Chatham Chet baker) all of the drinks were amazing and strong. This is my second time being here and it's been great every time! The ambience is amazing in here I love the pottery plants hanging from the ceiling. We came at happy hour and ordered the oysters to start and then I got the king crab rigatoni and my boyfriend got the sea scallops. Everything was amazing and the presentation is beautiful! I'd give it a 6/10. We got the filet mignon, king salmon, and truffle pasta. Truffle pasta was the best! 10/10. I personally didn't like the salmon, but my sister liked it. The filet mignon was 8/10. Even with the HH discount, this place is not cheap. Only the drinks were worth the price tag. I feel bad for whoever comes here and pays the regular price for this bland food. Top notch service and food. I've been here at least 5-6 times for work and personal occasions. When I come with work, we're on an expense account and order nearly everything on the menu and are never disappointed. Cocktails are great. Cookies are amazing! We usually enjoy the service of Jordan, who takes great care of us. I was last here a few days ago with my parents. My mother felt the duck was a bit dry and they didn't charge her for it. I had scallops, which was so good I used the home made bread to sop up every drop of broth. The pastas are made on site. Dessert was the chocolate tart and we loved it. The good news is I didn't pay. It was a corporate function, and I enjoyed the company. Bad news is it's the kind of overpriced joke of a restaurant that is the reason I rarely dine out anymore. It looked like roadkill and must have tasted not much better as both people who ordered it left 75% on the plate. Deserts were ok...if only because they were sweet and warm. But so is a McDonalds Apple Pie. I guess if you go during happy hour and sit at the bar and order oysters and a beer it's probably ok. Half price and all. The room is nice and the hotel lovely. Really superb service, the Heuvos Rancheros was sooooo good as well as the brioche donuts. High recommend those two items. Their hours are a bit funky so make sure to check before you go. The eatery itself has a bit of "proud of it's self" air when you come in... but it is quaint, trendy and upscale. We started with two aps... broccolini and Brussel sprouts... I passed on the broccoli but the sprouts were pretty good. Apple, hazel nuts and sprouts. This was, to me, a bit of a strange combination and at first taste I wasn't sure about this... but as I indulged I grew to like it! The apples were a good fit but the hazel nuts threw it off a bit at first. I then had the turkey burger. It was a turkey patty with smoked Gouda, cranberry-sage Mayo, pear-watercress slaw and a side of rosemary fries... The fries were outstanding... thin tasty and crunchy.. perfect. The turkey burger had a good flavor but the patty had a weird texture... almost mushy. I liked the flavor enough but in the end I could not get past the texture... I only ate half. We didn't know that they had happy hour during 5pm-6pm which is 50% off the entire menu so that was a super nice surprise. The food was so so good, I loved all three things we got. Crispy Calamari: Nicely cooked and comes with ketchup as well as a hot/peppery sauce on the side which was so good. Heirloom Tomato Salad: So fresh and colorful! I'm not the biggest fan of tomatoes normally but with the cheese and pesto sauce at the bottom it was amazing Sweet Corn Agnolotti: Wasn't sure what to expect with this one but it was definitely my favorite dish of the night, I loved how the pasta was cooked and the corn added a nice texture to the pasta. Service was great, and they were great with noticing when your water was low. Inside is so pretty with a few tables able to be seated outside looking above a pool. My mother and I came here for a brunch after strolling through the Santa Monica Farmers Market that day. We were more in the mood for some small bites and a pretty environment to sit at. The patio was beautifully decorated with plants and greenery to set a delicate and light mood. As open as the area was, our table was plenty private and intimate enough to share the time. We ordered their great big bread balloon which I've seen so many photos of. It was impressive! It's sad to deflate it honestly, haha. To go along with the bread balloon, there are a selection of side dips that can be ordered. We enjoyed the Hummus with Aleppo chili, Eggplant Salad with tomatoes, Maui onions and chickpeas and Warm Curried Lentils with sherry vinaigrette and cilantro. Delish! Food: 8.5/10 (Brioche Donuts, Smoked Brisket Hash, Heuvos Rancheros) - Brioche Donuts were excellent. Very fluffy and they melt in your mouth. The raspberry jam added to the fruity apple flavor on the inside. - Smoked Brisket Hash had a nice tangy BBQ flavor to it. The bread was warm and fresh which made the dish taste fantastic when put all together. I could've gone without the green beans but then again I'm not huge on them in the first place. - Heuvos Rancheros tasted authentic. It was probably the most expensive Huevos Rancheros I've ever had but it didn't disappoint. My only wish is that they added more heat to the dish then just the salsa. - I don't drink coffee straight black but theirs was sooo tasty that I didn't even bother adding sugar! Customer Service: 9.3/10 - Staff was friendly and made you feel welcomed. Our waiter was strictly about business which I respect. He always refilled water and coffee when he saw it almost halfway empty which I always love. Ambiance: 9.7/10 - The interior of the restaurant was absolutely gorgeous. Fig is "hidden" within the Fairmont hotel, not visible from the streets. It was difficult to find but once inside, you start to understand what they are going for. The atmosphere and ambience here is everything. The rustic wood mixes with analog bulbs and plants hanging from the ceiling is a perfect place for date night or close gatherings. Food is made with fresh ingredients and isn't shy to be even a bit on the bland side. Nothing to cover up. Nothing to hide. Will absolutely return. read more
