Been looking for a good bbq place and I was enticed by the Texas Indonesian fusion from Fikscue. One side of my family is from Indonesia, so I was excited to see how they combined the different flavors. We ordered a Dino Beef Rib, a pound of Brisket, 1/2 pound of Beef Back Ribs, a Jalapeño cheese sausage, and the Rujak Slaw and Nasi Goreng fried rice as sides. The Dino rib was fall off the bone tender and had a really well seasoned spice rub. I would definitely recommend getting the Dino rib over the beef back ribs if you can because it was much more tender. The brisket was a mix, with some fatty and lean pieces. It was tender, but some pieces were on the dryer side. It went well with the bbq sauce and sweet mustard. The sausage was bursting with juiciness and flavor, and had a nice crunchy wrapper. I really liked the pineapple in the rujak slaw because the sweetness helped cut through the richness of the meat. I was a little disappointed by the nasi goreng because it didn't taste like what I was used to. It had more of a typical fried rice spring roll flavor compared to the more umami flavors (kecap manis, shrimp paste) I was expecting from the typical nasa goreng. We came on a weekend and ordered a feast: brisket, beef back rib, smoked fried chicken leg, and the rendang plate (complete with a perfect fried egg). Every meat dish was phenomenal--fall-off-the-bone tender, juicy, and packed with a deep and savory flavor. It is def the kind of BBQ that melts in your mouth and leaves you speechless. The nasi goreng had great texture and spice, the rojak slaw added crunch and tang, and the sauerkraut with onions and peppers helped cleanse the palate between bites. We arrived at 12:21pm and got our food at 1:00pm--definitely a wait, but absolutely worth it!! YOU DON'T NEED TO BE RICH TO HAVE FLAVOR The title sounds as a reference to wealth. However it's regarding to my BBQ eating experience at Fikscue Craft BBQ. Growing up when I had BBQ for family parties there is BBQ pork and BBQ chicken. Sometimes there are BBQ beef short ribs. I read about Fikscue because this is a BBQ joint that doesn't serve pork, but the focus on beef. In addition this place is Halal. I don't eat at a lot of places that are Halal but I'm open minded. The first time I came here was Saturday during Labor Day Weekend, which I consider the last days of summer. What's unique about Fikscue is on the board it lists the available meat served for the day. There was no way I was going to miss ordering the dino beef rib. Also I had to get the brisket. One particular item really intrigued me was beef cheek, which I order half a pound. Being Asian I had to order the nasi goreng, which was fried rice with corned beef. The brisket was tasty. The dino beef rib was different from other beef ribs I ate in the past as it wasn't rich. You don't feel bloated by eating the dino beef rib. The best item of the day was the beef cheek. I love cabeza on my tacos, but cabeza can be very rich. The texture of beef cheek at Fikscue is a cross between pot roast and tongue. The beef cheek wasn't rich also. The fried rice as ok as I just didn't see enough corned beef. The second time I came here was Sunday on the day Daylight Savings Time ended. I wanted to try the Indonesian dishes. I was deciding between the soto padang or balado plate. The soto padang is a beef noodle soup and if I wanted the deluxe soto padang that includes brisket I would pay more. I asked the cashier for her recommendation. She stated the balado plate is spicy. She also said she's not into spicy yet suggested the rendang plate, which I ordered. I also ordered the smoked fried chicken leg and banana pudding. And yes I had to get the dino beef rib. The rendang plate is savory not earthy. Even though the dish is a nice change from BBQ the rendang plate includes smoked brisket, which adds a different flavor from other rendang dishes I've eaten in the past. The banana pudding was soothing yet not too sweet. I've seen videos on YouTube where the chicken is smoked then deep fried so I wanted to know what it tastes like. At Fikscue the chicken skin is so rendered it is not crispy. When I think of fried chicken I think of the crispy skin. Even though the chicken is flavorful the meat isn't as moist as I expected. Of all the items I ordered the smoke fried chicken was my least favorite. I've enjoyed my two visits to Fikscue. Since the focus of this BBQ joint is beef what I like about Fikscue is you can taste the meat without the greasiness of fatty cuts of beef. The prime examples were the dino beef rib and beef cheeks. Even though I like Fikscue I wouldn't give this place a 5-star rating as I've eaten at BBQ joints where on my first visit those places blew me away with tastes and expectations. read more

Fikscue is in Alameda on Park Street (I've never called it that before, but I guess that would make it Downtown Alameda?) it's in the same building in between Monkey Alameda, Scoop Up and the Alameda Brewery. Since it has been open they get long lines when they open at Noon, they're only also only open 3 days a week, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. This BBQ is really good, but it's long wait and also not cheap. There are prices per pound, but ribs you can only order per bone. The person at the counter estimated each dino bone (beef) is a little over 1lb each and their beef back ribs are about 0.5 lbs each, you have to order a minimum of one bone and can't order 1.5 bones. I went with my wife's cousin and we got there around 11:45am where there was already a line partially down the block, including time and line and ordering and trying our order it took about 90 minutes. I'm not sure if I would wait many places but this place seemed worth the wait. When you're in line, if someone is with you you could get a beer from the brewery or ice cream or something from Scoop Up, we could've but decided not to. I'll admit, being a little excited I probably way over ordered. The quality was really good. I ordered - 2 dino bones -2 beef back bones - 1lb brisket - 1 cheddar jalapeno sausage - 1/2 lb beef cheek (their weekend special) - 1 rendang plate - 2 cendols (dessert drink) - And a banana pudding (That was about $200 pre-tip) Everything was good (the meat was tender), plus the sauces they provided were good. That was WAY TOO MUCH food for 3 people, we had a lot of leftovers, and I used the beef bones to make a soup in our Instant Pot. I would probably order differently now that I know. They have some seating, and a good number of people working, however we noticed there seemed to be only one person cutting meat, that also probably contributes to the wait time. There was a small line when I arrived at 10:45am on a Sunday (June 2025) -- probably 8-10 people long. By Noon opening time, the line grew down the street but didn't turn the corner. Since we arrived early, we were served fairly quickly and all menu items were still available. Fikscue provides limited seating in the alleyway but they have a symbiotic relationship with the brewery next door -- the brewery provides plentiful seating and in return benefits from Fikscue's thirsty patrons. We tried Fikscue's Dino Bone, Brisket and the special of the day beef cheeks. Thumbs up for Dino Bones and the fatty briskets. Meh for the few less fatty brisket pieces and the cheeks. Price a bit over the top for me, but for lil sis, I dropped a Benjamin for 2; however we ordered enough for lunch and dinner, but still pricey for two imo. The bbq items we did get, they ended up running out of sauce so I felt like we never got the full experience. The second time we came an hour before opening just so we can get dibs on the full menu. Ok look came here off a clip that I seen on YouTube from someone else. First time hearing about this place and actually going to try it but it's kind of its own alley type of shop. It's pushed back into the buildings so you may have to look if you've never been or ask someone. This place is lit good vibe at night and at day as I've been now multiple times because the food worth it. Let me get into the food the brisket is moist, tender, flavorful and falling apart as I picked it up but was extremely good to the bite. The beef ribs are worth it as well for a good size but same as the brisket falling off the bone damn near! The spices and flavors are good to where you don't need sauce but the sauce pair well with it as well. The tri tip was the hit for me it was tender, juicy, moist, flavorful, and melts I your moth as you eat. All of the meat was well smoked as you can see the rings all over and taste the smokiness in every bite. The Dino ribs go crazy to with every penny spent on it for how it they are sheesh. Get one and try it that's all I can say. The sides are good as well but the meat is worth it. To to it off I had the banana pudding for a desert and while I'm used to pudding style theirs is more of a custard but I can't knock it. It was still good with plenty of flavor just different from what I've had for years to come from multiple places. I've been dying for some good bbq and was finally able to give this place a try because the line is usually so long! We ordered several different items for my fam so we could get a good feel for the overall offerings. Service was fast and friendly. We chose the dino ribs, beef back ribs, chicken, sausage, brisket, macaroni, lumpia, fries, and banana pudding. I think my expectations were really high because of all the hype around this place. For the price of the food, I was expecting a ton of flavor and perfect juiciness/texture in all items. It was okay... but nothing that really blew my mind. The sausage and banana pudding were the two stars of the meal, for sure- they had distinctly memorable flavors that my fam and I really enjoyed those. The rest of the food was surprisingly on the bland side. It all looked great,.. the pics give the impression of amazing food, right???... but the flavor didn't really deliver for me at all. The macaroni reminded me of Hamburger Helper from my childhood. The sauces were good, but I don't want to rely on sauces for flavor when I just got some very expensive meat- and was hoping for the salt, fat, acid, and heat from the meat spices. So lucky to have Fikscue here in Alameda! A few friends and I showed up around 4:50 PM on a Wednesday and were probably fifth or so in line. Although bummed that their weekday menu differs from their weekend menu, we still had many options to choose from and the food was spectacular. We ordered a bunch of different things and got to try a good chunk of the menu. Highlights for me were the beef back ribs, iga saos kacang, and randomly the potato salad, which ended up being one of my faves. As a local to Alameda, u was really excited to try Fikscue after reading articles of its exciting Indonesian influence mixed with Texas BBQ. The lines were fairly long on Saturday morning ( they are open limited days of the week fo check before you go!) but the crowd was friendly and the pit master actually came out with samples of their brisket!!! The kids were able to walk down the street to Subpar mini golf to spend more pleasant time while waiting. After about an hour wait for the opening at noon, the line moved very fast and you order counter style. The bbq place itself only has one table and benches outside. The Dino ribs and brisket were by far my favorite!!! I tried the jalapeño cheddar beef sausage, regular ribs and got the combo Rendang plate. The combo plate had so much flavor but can be a bit heavy on the grease (but it's bbq - I totally expect this). Overall, come with a hearty appetite and buy a drink at the Alameda brewery next door to enjoy the BBQ right away. We got the 1lb brisket and the Indonesian rendang set. My sister in law waited 70 minutes on a Saturday. They got us takeout because I don't have the patience to wait so long. Summary: + Extra star for offering Indonesian cuisine which is somewhat rare in the Bay Area (5 stars) + Begedil is a lightly fried potato patty that is typically an accessory to a combination plate which it was here and taste just like home (5 stars) + Rest of combination plate consist of beef rendang, a lightly curried kale side and an egg with sambal. It's pretty good but I thought the rendang was a bit Smokey in flavor and didn't really do it for me. (4 stars) + Smoked brisket was tender and delicious but did they forget to give us sauce? At its core, this spot does Texas style BBQ, but with an Indonesian twist. There may be some spices used in the BBQ but the Indonesian influence is more obvious in the sides / some of the dishes available. The folks here are just so friendly and helpful. The spot is pretty small so it's more conducive to take out, but you can actually bring your food next door to the brewery and order a good variety of beers to enjoy with your meal. We had a pretty sizable group so we ordered a lot and covered a lot of the menu items. We ended up ordering: - Smoked brisket - Dino beef ribs - beef back ribs - smoked fried chicken leg - Jalapeño- cheese sausage - Rendang plate - Batagor (dumplings) - Nasi goreng - Rujak slaw - Potato salad To sum it up, I thought everything was really great. The meat was tender where you think it needed to be tender and there was a nice bite where you think there should be a bite (e.g. ribs weren't just really mush and fell off the bone, etc. there were firm bites to it). The sausage was really delicious and had a nice snap to the bite. The sides were really well prepared and it was great having some non-traditional Texas style BBQ sides or at least their take on traditional sides. A good amount of spice on some of the Indonesian dishes as well. Overall, just a big fan of this spot. What intrigued me was that after reading a little of this place, I thought the origin of their business was very similar to one of my favorite BBQ spots in LA. I wanted to try this place when I was in town visiting family. Because BBQ typically sells out or at least certain items I made it a point to sit in line early before opening (about 2 hours prior). I actually was 3rd in line and got to hang out with some folks that lived around the corner. We shared a couple of beers and had a great time. My group in total was like 8-9 people so not everyone is going to have a group that large to enjoy so many of the menu items, but I would say eating here with a group even half that size definitely has its benefits. Review is for the pop-up event that they had and not their brick and mortar. I've heard a lot about this place and saw that they were having a pop-up at Thrive City at Chase Center for NBA all star weekend and had to stop by. We came on Sunday and they were set up right outside where they plan on opening their new location next to Harmonic brewing. They wasn't a huge line and it was a limited menu but they had a brisket platter, which was 2 slices of brisket, a dino rib, jalapeno sausage along with 2 sides, potato salad and their slaw. It came out fairly quickly and they had sauces on the side that you can get. Just from the eye taste, the brisket was glistening, the dino rib meat was peeling back from the bone and the sausage was filled with melty cheese and jalapeno. The meat was super tender and only need some pulls from a plastic fork to fall apart. There was some light smoke, which wasn't overwhelming. The sausage had a good bite from the jalapeno. The potato salad, was bigger chunks of potato and egg with mayo, no mustard which I was a fan of. The slaw was a refreshing take from the normal bbq slaw that you get that was dressed with a peanutty sauce. We went kinda big...1 Dino rib, pound of brisket, & (special) beef cheeks, fried rice, potato salad, and banana pudding; mind you, this is lunch for 2 adults and 2 kids. New York Times top 50 restaurants list... and when I get gas across the street I see a line that goes to the smog place and around to my auto upholstery guy around the corner. I don't think we've had such a hyped up restaurant so nearby in a long time. Part of me dreaded going there because after all I've heard the only thing left would be to get disappointed. My usual spot of Famous Dave's at least never does that. And for that I'm grateful. Today I was getting gas at my usual spot across the street and looked to see if there was any line at around 4pm. Didn't see anything walked up only to see most everything was sold out except the brisket. 1 LB of brisket and a traditional Indonesian plate, Rendang and some potatoe salad to go and I was on my way. Brought it home and my cat immediately was into the smell coming from the take out bag. I had done a great job of hunting and gathering today and he was very proud. I had noticed he wasn't eating his normal meal of smoked salmon with the same enthusiasm of yesteryear and I suppose both of us needed a little change. First was the brisket. It was good. I think a little dry and not enough BBQ sauce. Potato salad was outstanding. Some crunchy stuff on top and made with a fine attention to detail. The Rendang plate I think is where the restaurant shines. Its unique and flavors that I wasn't used to. The brisket was elevated with some curry and had some sauce to it - and the creamed spinach complimented perfectly. Rice and egg and presentation with various garnishes I found outstanding. I loved the staff and how friendly everybody was. I slipped in just before closing when all the most popular BBQ was sold out - so I realize it is an incomplete review of all the various offerings - but I did my best to give it a fair shot. The outdoor seating with green vines growing above and proximity to the brewery next door all add to perhaps an understanding of how the restaurant is so highly rated. Second attempt at Fikscue since the first time was not eaten fresh; ate it the next day after mildly heating it up, and it was disappointing. Well, the verdict when it was eaten fresh didn't live up to the hype though I was hoping it would be better so that this becomes a nice place to bring visiting friends and family. It was not as dry, but nonetheless, not as juicy besides the "juiciness" that comes from the meat fat. There could be many reasons to this from how the meat is marinated, smoked, stored, to the temperature when the meat is cut to serve. Also the meat all tasted the same instead of giving them some characteristics of its own for each cut of meat. The only saving grace for our meal is that the fusion entrees (rendang, golden curry, soto) were delicious. This made up for the lackluster bbq, though for the price paid, there was a pain point to the whole meal. The service was alright. A little on the slow side though I was prepared to wait. There was a line of about 40 ppl by 11am. The speed could be improved if there were two people slicing and weighing meats for orders. For eating in, you can either eat in the small outdoor eating area they have which does feel cram and people could be looking at you while you eat since they're waiting in line. Or you could eat at Alameda Brewery though you would need to order drinks from them at the least - which isn't bad if you planned to have some drinks to go with your food. Cendol was alright. The cendol (the green noodle toppings) was on the thicker side. But was tasty to end the meal with. Would I return? Yes, for the fusion entrees. Definitely not the bbq. Though I doubt I would since I could go to another Indonesian restaurant instead without having to manage this line that is mainly here for the bbq. read more

After much anticipation we finally tried Fikscue! As soon as we discovered this place offered halal Texas bbq with an Indonesian twist AND they made NY Times Top 50, we had to try it. We lined up on a Saturday in June about 30 minutes before opening. The line wasn't down the block yet but we were about 20th in line. We made it to the register about 45 minutes after opening. Pretty much all the menu inventory was available by the time it came for us to order, with the exception of one of their weekend specials (the beef cheek) which the person right in front of me happened to get the last one. For our party of 2 we ordered 1 dino rib, 1 lb brisket, 1 lb beef back rib, 1 jalapeño cheese sausage, Rujak slaw, nasi goreng, and the coco Pandan soda gembira. This was a lot of food for just the 2 of us but considering we traveled 2+ hours, we decided to go for it and it was able to feed us for days to come. Very friendly atmosphere at Fikscue and the staff are open to answering questions. To make things easier and considering the long wait, I think it's best to know what you want to order before you get to the register. A lot of the folks waiting in line were first timers just like us so we all did our research on what to order when it came time. There is parking available at a small lot behind the restaurant. Seating is pretty limited. We were in line with our dog so we were limited to finding seating outside. Apparently the brewery next door offers seating however the brewery had a private event the day we came. Verdict? Everything tasted great. Our favorite was the beef back ribs. If we had to pick our least favorite, I would say the brisket, I wish we had ordered half a pound instead of a whole pound. The slaw was also a favorite and a great complement to the bbq. So I did it! Third time is a charm. I got in line at 11:00 am last Saturday. We were second in line. They opened the doors and greeted the now long line at exactly 12:00 noon. We had the brisket, dino beef ribs and cheddar jalapeño sausage for the meats. They were all tender and juicy and flavorful. I think the sausage was the best surprise as it was so full of flavor and juicy. The BBQ sauce is really good too. It tastes homemade. For sides we got the coleslaw, potato salad, and fried rice. The coleslaw slaw was the crowd favorite but all the sides were delicious. We were all so full but couldn't stop eating. This was a great experience. My cousin was leaving to work abroad and she suggested this place for her "see you later" dinner. She said it gets super busy, and they always sell out. I got there a few minutes early and there was already a line. The staff is super friendly and very helpful. I also appreciated that the person taking our order was very patient and friendly, especially since it was my first time there. I'm not sure about anyone else, but geez do I crab up when I have to order somewhere new. Makes me feel like it's the first day of school. Jk, but kinda, lol. Here is what we ordered: (Please note they have different menu items for different days of the week. However, they do have some staples that are set) - Iga Saos Kaeng (2): basically a rib plate with a fried egg and rice. It was very good and the peanut sauce *chef's kiss - Dino Rib : A MASSIVE RIB. It's $38/pound, but one rib is like two pounds, so I spent about $67 on one. I didn't taste it, my cousin took it home, but I'm sure it was delectable. - Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage (2): these are made from brisket. I really enjoyed them. My son, not so much. He and my cousin said they tasted like a Slim Jim. - Brisket Sandwich: Surprisingly, my daughter loved this, and she is super picky. My son, who didn't order anything from the restaurant, ate the rest of whatever she didn't eat and said it was sooo good. - Macaroni Goreng: This was a bit disappointing. I feel like it needed more seasoning and sauce too it. - Potato Salad: Solid. The inside is small, but clean. There is a little bit of bar-like seating, but in there is some seating out in the alleyway, which is where we sat. This place is pricey, but I do think they have great quality food. So fortunate to have a good bbq take out in town albeit only open on the weekends. You'll need to get there at least an hour before the noon opening as they'll run out of Beef Back Bones and Dino Bones if you get there late. Total wait time for us was 1hour, 50 minutes and they only had 5 of 72 Beef Back Ribs left, thus adjust your arrival accordingly. For newbies, there are two breweries adjacent to Fikscue, one allows outside food and not sure about the other one. Employee brought out some brisket to sample around 11:30am, smelled and tasted great. Process: stand in line, order at lone cashier, order provided to adjacent carver, meats cut and weighed, priced and billed, pay, stand to the side and wait for your food to be packed up or put on tray for dining at the adjacent brewery. We ordered: 1 Dino Bone, 2 Beef Back Ribs, 1.5 pounds of Brisket, 1 Beef Rendang Plate, 1 Rujak Slaw, 1 Cendol Dessert Drink, 1 Banana Pudding - total - around $200. The meats were nicely q'd - moist, good mix of fat and meat on the bones, while brisket was more lean and a little drier. Also a bit salty thus you'll need starches. Their sauce is tangier compared to sweeter SW BBQ sauces that we've had at other places - Indonesian influence?!?...the meat will fall off the bones... Beef Rendang plate was good with smoky pieces of brisket. Pass on the Rujak Slaw though. Cendol reminded of Vietnamese 3 Colored Dessert drink, it was ok. Overall, fortunate to have a top 50 bbq place in town. Not sure if I'd wait in line on a routine basis... once or twice a year? And when you do, go with people, order more and make it worth your wait in line. read more

I came here with some friends on a Sunday at 11:15 AM and didn't order our food until closer to 1:30 PM. By the time we ordered, they did run out of the beef ribs, but we were able to get the dino ribs instead. There's plenty of seating in the brewery next door, which also makes it super convenient to enjoy a beer with your food. Overall we ordered 2 lbs of smoked Brisket ($35/lb), 2 smoked Dino Rib ($35/lb), 2 beef jalapeño beef sausages ($8 each), the Rendang Plate ($22), and the Chicken Balado Plate ($18). This was all enough to feed 5 people and probably could've been enough for 6. My favorite was the brisket (so wonderfully fatty) and the beef jalapeño beef sausages. I enjoyed the barbecue more than the plates, but they were a nice a touch for exploring more Indonesian food. If you have a group of friends to wait in line with, this is actually a really nice way to pass the time together. Just be sure to come early, especially if you want to make sure that nothing runs out! read more
