    New Years Day 2026
    Jocelyn C.

We came here to start the New Year 2026. We got seated within minutes. It wasn't too busy. Reasonable prices, which is why we chose this place. Few servers were around. Seemed very busy. At times it was hard to get a hold of them. One thing that was alarming, was when walking around, the floor was slippy. When going to the bathroom, I felt like I was gonna fall. Hopefully, when we go next time, it won't be slippy. It was a good place to go to for sure. Will be back

Finally remembered to submit this take away review on Jon Ga House after years of love for this Korean institution in Oakland. Not sure whether Jong Ga changed hands or just did a refresh inside, but the interior is now vastly different than I remember: tables now have individual vent hoods to reduce smoke and allow cooking at the table. Just like any Korean BBQ spot, you have to expect leaving smelling like grilled meat. But this is a huge improvement that I'll have to try when dine in sometime. I ordered 2 spicy pork entrees for take home. The cook time was reasonable (20 min after phoning in the order). On arrival, everything was bagged and ready. Service was friendly. Once home, we unpacked and everything was packaged well to avoid any spilled oil or sauces. Meats were wrapped in foil to retain heat. Our dishes were still piping hot. Pork had a good combo of meat to fat ratio, and the spicy sauce was just right... fiery but not painful. Entrees came with a side of steamed white rice and a clamshell container of mixed banchan (kimchi, daikon, pickled cucumber, japchai, fried potato, and marinated bean sprouts). Quality Korean BBQ is not "cheap eats", so prepare yourself for the sticker shock. But if you want great Korean in Oakland, this is a great option.

Just ate at jongga house and the experience is 5/5. At first we had to go upstairs and it was kinda disappointing as they had no round grills on second floor but, then our server came set to up the table. Thought it wouldn't work but overall it was way faster than one one bottom floor. Food was great service was superb. Our server Lucas was checking us often trying to check if we are still disappointed it felt funny so we just dropped and had good experience. If you want to eat here ask for Lucas dude is funny and fast.

Nice, clean restaurant. Good variety to choose from. Quality ingredients; however some people f our meats were frozen. Competitive pricing for all-you-can-eat option. 2 grills make cooking more efficient. However they're very slow in coming around to take orders. We were waiting around to order with nothing on the grills or our plates. Staff was very polite and courteous.

Delicious KBBQ spot in Oakland at a reasonable price for all you can eat. Beef brisket is my favorite and the pork belly is also yummy.

Firstly, it's wonderful to see this great restaurant survive and thrive thru so many years and challenges. And you can't ask for nicer folks than the owners and the servers. Please be polite and treat them well. I often dine out for lunch during the work week to take a breather from the office hustle and this restaurant is one of the few that is on my weekly rotation, which says a lot. (was that a run on? ) What can I share about this restaurant that hasn't already been mentioned? This is one of a few that has a more extensive menu than your typical Korean restaurant. If you want to venture beyond the popular Korean BBQ, try their #44 Spicy Sea Bass Soup or #B (yes I said number B) Braised Sea Bass (both best shared) or #90 Bulgogi Soup. Or my lunchtime fav #34 Atka Mackerel, which has a milder, slightly sweeter flavor than the regular mackerel. In comparison to other Korean restaurants, their lunch menu offers the best value. And you won't find another place offering their refreshing, cold spicy soup (yeolmu gooksu) as an appetizer. Ever wonder what the green vegetable in it is? It's the leaves and stems of the Korean radish. (You're welcome ) Etiquette tip: One of the perks of dining at a Korean restaurant is being able to ask for refills of the side dishes (banchan). But typically you want to limit your ask to no more than one additional serving of about 3 of the side dishes. Please don't be that person who asks for a refill of ALL of them (unless you're in a large group) nor that person who asks for 5 additional servings of one ‍ (again, unless you're in a large group) Bonus tip: if you aren't BBQ'ing, sit in the front room to avoid becoming Pig-Pen (Peanuts character for you kids) with a halo of KBBQ smoke to repel humans and attract raccoons. Bonus Korean language tip: whenever you see words with the letter "L", pronounce the word like it's a Spanish word: e.g. bulgogi, kalbi, yeolmu, samgyupsal. Now go back up and reread this review out loud with the correct pronunciation!

Jong Ga House is a really fun place with great food. The only downside is that you can't take leftovers to go but I understand because it's all you can eat. I recommend getting a reservation as wait time can be really long during peak dinner hours, even on the weekdays. I also recommend giving yourself at least 15 mins to park and get there as street parking is pretty rough to find in the neighborhood. We always get the all you can eat and find it really reasonably priced. The meat is excellent quality. The restaurant is clean and the vents are working overtime to keep the place clear of smoke. We really like adding the kimchi pancakes and the cheese corn. I highly recommend both. We also usually get the spare ribs, the brisket, and the bulgogi. The meat is fresh and super tasty. Looks really good quality. This is my go to spot for KBBQ.

The food was phenomenal, the ambiance was so much fun! Service was great and they were attentive. The only downside is parking. It's street parking and it so tough to find especially on weekends, since they're nearby Lake Merritt. Be patient with parking! It's worth it :)

This review is only for lunch special. This place is currently my favorite spot for galbi with an insanely good price. With the Galbi combo, it's $24.99 and comes with cold noodles, really tasty banchans (side dishes), soup of choice (I do tofu soup), and galbi. Everything was so delicious and the pricing is great especially in this economy. The restaurant interior isn't anything crazy but the service is phenomenal! You know it's good and authentic when Korean grandmas are serving you. Parking is street parking - I've never had problem during lunch hour finding street parking but might be different later at night time. Overall, been here twice and it's been consistently good. Definitely my go-to for cheap galbi and tofu soup! Might give the AYCE Korean bbq a try some time.

Jong Ga House has definitely become my go-to KBBQ spot in the East Bay. The space is roomy, so it never feels cramped even when it's busy, and the staff couldn't be nicer--super attentive without hovering. I went for the AYCE option and honestly, the meat quality blew me away. Probably the best I've had around here. Everything tasted fresh and well-prepped, and the sides were just as good--so many to choose from and all delicious. The price felt more than fair for the amount and quality of food, and they've got some solid drink deals too, which was a nice bonus. Met up with friends for a birthday and it ended up being one of those nights where the food and atmosphere just make the whole thing memorable. Can't wait to come back--this place is definitely worth it.

We always have such a fantastic time here. It's our go to place for any friends or family that visit. The service is always superb and Michelle always has the best recommendations. Highly recommend :)

So Cal visitor, The restaurant was well lit, with traditional Korean decor, and had great ventilation. For a party of 11. We had 2 tables, the servers were nice, and showed us how to cook, the meats, they even changed the grilles, from, beef, chicken & seafood. I love the beef was marinated with a delicious flavor, and so was the chicken, the spicy rice had a kick. I'll definitely will come again.

    Banchan - delicious!

Went here for my bday- reservations highly rec as they fill up fast!! Bring your id for birthday discount and a dessert! Service was attentive! Never really had to wait for anything or to ask questions when we went before the dinner rush started. Decent variety of meat available for the AYCE as well as sides like lettuce, radish paper/wraps, veggies, cheese corn. Street parking - can get busy and parked looking for parking so take your time.

My favorite was the mac & cheese and brussels sprouts. The meats were so tender! Although, I tried a piece of pork link, for some reason, I didn't like it. It seemed too grainy. The ambience was chill, and they have full bar. Nice and spacious. My only complaint is that I was trying to order & the phone rings & the host took the call. What I learned in customer service in my 20 years +, you attend to the customer in front of you first. Phone calls can wait. When she got off the phone, other workers came over and they started talking about what's next in their schedule. Still, I'm over here, waiting to order the rest of the stuff. That what the unprofessional part of things.. Glad we still came here to try. It still earned a star to come back!

Super awesome. The kitchen is wide open. Everything was super clean and well put together. Service - 5/5 Great recommendations from the staff. The house slaw and banana pudding were clearly popular choices, and they definitely knew what they were doing when guiding the order. I told them it's my first time. These were what they recommended me. One of the staff actually gave a piece of brisket to try. Very nice of them to give a free sample before I order so I know what I'm expecting. Food - 4.5/5 Dish Ordered: Dino Rib, Brisket ( 1/2 lb), House Slaw, Banana Pudding 5/5 Dino Rib Wow. This was the highlight. The meat was unbelievably tender--every single part of it. Usually with ribs, especially the upper portions, you get some toughness or dryness depending on how it's smoked. Not here. This one was melt-in-your-mouth soft, juicy throughout, and you could practically pull it apart effortlessly. The seasoning was perfect--balanced, not too salty, not bland, just right. Every bite hit. 4/5 Brisket ( 1/2 lb) About two slices. Visually, it looked great--nice color, juicy, with a solid fatty portion. But after eating the Dino rib, it felt a bit underwhelming. Still good, just didn't hit as hard flavor-wise. Might be better appreciated on its own next time. 5/5 House Slaw This paired extremely well with the meat. Sweet, tangy, and refreshing. The hint of peanuts adds a nice nutty layer that makes it stand out. It cuts through the richness of the meat perfectly. 5/5 Banana Pudding Not your typical pudding--it's more like a banana cake. The sweetness not too overwhelming, smells amazing, and just hits the spot. A great way to finish the meal. Additional Comments The Dino rib alone makes this place worth it. It sets a very high bar, which honestly makes everything else feel secondary. The best Rib I have ever had in my life so far. Important thing to note is that the rib will be weighed. I don't think you can ask to get the portion you want like you can with the brisket. My Dino rib came out to be 1.6lb. The sides and dessert complement the meal really well and round out the experience. Price is bit is definitely in the higher end but the experience is definitely worth it.

Now I saw this place on social media as one of the best barbecue in the Bay Area. Well in my visit, let me just say I was disappointed. The food was OK and overpriced. The brisket was a bit dry so was the ribs. The sausage tasted like sawdust and potato salad was flavorless. Service was good lady that helped me was nice and suggested what to get. The place inside is pretty small, but there's plenty of sitting outside and you could sit inside the brewery next-door, which is what we choose. First of all, my order was TO-GO. And let me tell you... when I got home and opened that bag, I was honestly blown away. My food was packaged with so much care, precision, and pride--it was neat, organized, and handled like it actually mattered. That alone told me everything about the level of service in that building. Candalen--YOU DID THAT. The attention to detail on my plate did not go unnoticed. You treated my food like it was being served in-house, and that speaks volumes about your work ethic and pride in what you do. Aaron--listen... that peach lemon drop??? BABY. That was my first time trying one and it was EVERYTHING. Smooth, flavorful, perfectly balanced--you made that drink an experience all by itself. I will be back JUST for that. And let's talk about the vibe--the music, the energy, the atmosphere--it all came together in a way that made the entire visit feel GOOD. Not just food... a whole experience. But what really stands out is this: It has been a LONG time since I've experienced service this genuine, this intentional, and this excellent. Not rushed, not careless--EXCEPTIONAL. I'm not sure what has happened over the last few months but the quality of the food, the service and the expectation to pay and tip up front were very disappointing. My nephew, who is 15 and has a voracious appetite, wasn't a fan of any of it except the mac & cheese, cause he apparently ate all of it, so I can't comment on that dish. He kept saying the yams had nothing but cinnamon. NONE of the meats seemed to be very well seasoned, not even the links, which was very puzzling. Maybe they make their own links and just don't put in much seasoning. Ribs and links were moist, but lacked flavor. Chicken & brisket were dry, & flavorless. "When all other meats fail, grab a hot link!" Not at this spot. On the upside, sauces were on the side, and the rib flavor did improve when I dunked the ribs in the sauce This could have been one of their off days, but if the food there is like this all the time, maybe their intended market prefers low to no sodium and dried flavorless meats.

The meat is incredibly tender, it basically melts in your mouth, and that deep, smoky flavor really seeps all the way through, not just on the surface. The sauces come on the side, and they're free, so don't be shy about asking for extra. I actually asked if there was a limit once, and the cashier laughed and said something like, "Maybe six containers?" If I'm being picky, I'd probably skip the hot links next time. They're not bad, just nothing special compared to how strong everything else is, slightly smoky, but otherwise pretty standard. The collard greens are a standout side dish. They've got this nice acidity that cuts through the richness of the meat really well. There is a noticeable vinegar tang, though, so if that's not your thing, you might want to pass, but if you like that balance, they're great. Another big bonus, there's a park right outside the building near the exit by Cashew Creamery. It's perfect if you've got kids. There's this whale structure they can climb into (through the mouth or side), with a slide on top and climbing holds all over -- fins, back, tail, the whole thing. There are also surfboard-style balance boards on springs and plenty of open space and greenery to run around. And if you're making a little outing of it, it's only about a 10-minute walk to Bay Street, so you can easily pair your meal with a stroll, some shopping, or more food and drinks nearby.
