Ugh. Seemed promising. We waited 40 mins for our 2 entrees. Very quick and easy. It was 8 pm when we sat. Food comes out, we ordered lobster and crab Mac and cheese and a lobster sandwich. Sandwich was good. Lobster and crab Mac cheese comes out with a layer of burnt cheese so no telling what's underneath. Well, very disappointed it was missing all the lobster and crab (just plain old Mac and cheese). By this point I didn't want to wait for a new one or eat a new one. Our waiter, one of the least friendliest waiters (find a new career) didn't bring our food to begin with and didn't bring out the correct version of the Mac and cheese. One of the other waitresses did. All in all quite a waste of time and money. Lucky we didn't pay $24 for plain Mac and cheese. Time frame for seating and service was typical. Decided to sit at the Bar. Service was good. Drinks were prompt and as ordered. Food otherwise was not the same. Ordered off the appetizer side of the menu since it was earlier in the evening and unsure about food quality. After about 40 minutes we received the Appetizers.....40 MINUTES. 2 out of the 3 Apps were satisfying, however the 3rd...Lobster Cocktail had a lot to be left desired. Presented in a 10 ounce "water" glass, the appetizer consisted of some Arugula, Avocado, tomato, limes "stuffed" into the glass (layered) and Lobster topping the glass. Not much flavor (no seasoning) or presentation and the Lobster portion consisted of 5 "fingerlings" of Lobster meat (maybe 1 oz) the size of 1/3rd of an adolescents phalanx. For the price of $22, I would have assumed a bit more overall. I'm not a cheapskate and respects servers and entrepreneurs...been there myself. Went twice on a visit to bar harbor. First time was a definite five star. Second time was a four Star. Food was excellent both times. Went with my wife and two kids (8 and 10). My wife is a vegetarian and really enjoyed the unique Thai curry option. I had a lobster roll one day and the crab cake blt the next. The only difference the two days was that the first waitress was amazing. So attentive and good with the kids. The second day the waitress was just average. All in all a fun time. read more

We used to love Finback. It breaks my heart to give a rating this scathing and i hope the right person reads this. I wish I could give negative stars but I can't. Something happened to this once great restaurant in the last two years. On our first night in Bar Harbor we dined here like we do every year. the host lied to us and told us there were reservations and we had to wait at the bar to be sat. When there were more than ten open tables. We found out later something happened to the cook and they were slammed with orders. While we were waiting we saw people who walked in get seated before us. A few minutes later we were seated because I was mean mugging the hostess. The food tasted ok and the wait staff was sorry. I forgave the mediocre food because we later learned the head chef was sick and had to go home early. We gave it another chance tonight and it was a huge let down. We ordered an appetizer and drinks, my beer came out after the app which kinda sucked and they weren't even busy yet. We told our waitress we needed a couple minutes to order food and she didn't come check on us for over 30 minutes. We finally ordered and my soup was cold and came out with my dinner. I ordered wings for my entre and they were burned, my mom who ate w me had the jerk chicken her rice was disgusting and chicken was dry. We heard a couple ask where the wait staff was and the bartender told them that they were outside smoking weed!! Are you kidding me!!?! You are working!! This staff has ruined a once amazing restaurant. I am absolutely livid at my experience and will not dine at Finback again. I hope the owner reads this and makes some serious changes. Now one of our new favorite spots in Bar Harbor. We visit the area often and always peek in to see the place packed. Finally got lucky around dinner time and got a perfect seat. Love the atmosphere, the staff. Just good vibes here. Awesome selection of draft beers offered here, pretty extensive list in bottles or cans as well. Prices are more than fair, food was excellent and the waffle fries great too. They have an option snuck on the very bottom of the menu where you can opt in to buy the kitchen staff a round of beers. Do it! They deserve it. We're looking forward to coming back. read more

Needless to say was very disappointed. Menu states that it's made with 1 1/4 lb of lobster. That was no where to be found. Had two very small pieces of lobster claw meat and that's it. In addition to that it stated that there was bacon in it as well. There was ZERO bacon. Should have been listed as crab Mac and cheese. We were coming from a long trip from the White Mountains so were looking for a spot in Bar Harbor that had kichen open until late and since we are always looking for some good beer to go with our food the Finback Alehouse seemed to be a pretty obvious choice. Overall we have been really satisfied with our choice, my wife had a fantastic seafood roll with scallops and my lobster roll was great too (although expensive compared to others I've tried on the Maine coast in the same week). Whatever you are having, choose chips as a side... definitely worth it and better than the average fries. Beer selection was excellent, with some very interesting brews. Again, just a little bit pricey... but it's Bar Harbor, so it has to be expected. Service was friendly and always present, in short a place I'd definitely reccomend. read more

My family and I came to Finback Alehouse after being unable to be seated at another restaurant. Their menu looked appetizing and we had spoken earlier in the week about how great it smelled when we walked past the open garage doors! Our party of six was seated promptly at a large table in the back of the restaurant and our server was very quick to introduce herself and provide us with menus. The menu was diverse and accommodating for everyone (vegetarians, non-seafood eaters). Between us, we ordered the fish and chips, California club sandwich, shrimp sandwich, and the veggie burger - all were super tasty and fresh - and the fries/onion rings that came on the side were hot and delicious. Our server was clearly busy throughout our meal as it was prime dinnertime, but she made sure to check on us throughout the time we were there. The water on the table did have an interesting (but not bad) taste to it, but it wasn't noticeable after a few sips. Overall, this was a really lovely find for our family! Oh man, I wanted to like this place more. I really did. It had SUCH high hopes. We came on a Saturday at the end of the month for dinner. I put my name in for a table of 4 and was told 15-20 minutes, definitely be seated before 7pm. Well 7 comes and goes and we're still waiting. We ended up not being seated until 7:30. And I know that sometimes they can't control things, but it was very frustrating bc I was with my boyfriend's parents and they were tired, so standing for an hour was bad. We got put into a table, which was cramped but fine. The beer list was good, could have been better for a place that seemed to tout itself on the beer selection. I got an old fashioned, which was fine. Again, just nothing "wow" about it. I will say: you get a LOT of food when you order. We had WAY too much. But the bummer was that I had gone for a LONG hike that day and was PINING for a seafood platter. And I ordered it, and yes it was huge and golden and smelled great. But once I started to dig in, the breading was awful. It was soggy at times, it didn't stay on things, and it was GUMMY. I tried to get my boyfriend to eat some, but after forcing as much as he could down, we had to let it go. We spend the rest of the night with ROCKS in our stomach and a greasy layer in our mouths that made everything taste awful. We were supposed to spend the evening at our campfire making smores with his parents, but instead turned in early with belly aches. Protip: they use the lobster bisque as the gravy, so if you're in the mood for soup, go for the chowder. Speaking of the chowder, it was the best we tried this trip or the last. Perfectly seasoned and a good amount of creaminess with a bit of a kick. We also tried the mussles, which eschewed the classic garlic butter for a tomato sauce you might find in a cioppino. For the main, I opted for the pulled pork sandwich, which of anything was almost TOO flavorful. Seriously... Best Steamers EVER!!! You can tell they pre treat them well. They were huge, sweet and creamy...not one bit of sand!!!! I dad the special stuffed lobster with crabmeat stuffing-the stuffing was incredible-all real crab meat and smothered with some yummy sauce and topped with shrimp. The lobster was sweet and delicious. So so yum! My boyfriend has the lobster mac and cheese that was to die for!! Cheesy and chunky--although they state they use an entire 1 1/4 lobster-I doubt it- but still great nonetheless! Lobster bisque was tasty and the beer list was good! Came here on a Bloody Mary tour of Bar Harbor that my friend and I took upon ourselves to do one lazy saturday. Gave the drink a solid 8... it could have been because I was already 3 deep but, it was pretty good. Only thing that I would change was that it was a premade store bought mix. I think they should make their own. But Bartender Scott was awesome and made it fun to sit at the bar. My friend got the reg mac and cheese (no bacon) and LOVED it. It was heavy and cheesey but exactly what she wanted. SO GOOD. I got the lobster mac and chesse. A bit pricey but worth it. It has nice chunks of lobster and crab in every bit. I had them make mine with gouda and it was AMAZING. I had plenty to bring home and am craving more right now. Atmosphere is quaint with tables close together and minimal decorating. I highly recommend as a place for a date or just grabbing dinner out. Was very stedy and people didnt wait long for tables. Service was fast and very very friendly (Evelina is AWESOME!) I liked this place a lot. We went during an off time so the bar wasn't crowded. Both bartenders we had were very sweet and gave hiking advice on some good trails.
