Stopped here after a day at Acadia and we were pleasantly surprised with yumminess across the board. The restaurant has a garage door style front which they had open when we went. We sat by the front and it was perfectly breezy and comfortable. I had the fish tacos and they were delicious. My husband had the crab cake BLT which combined two of my favorite things (crab cake and bacon) into one delicious bite. I'd probably pass on the hummus app if went back since was underwhelming and served with toasted baguettes. read more

We really liked this restaurant. Food was great and ambiance, casual-chic. We ordered a lobster avocado salad for an appetizer, lobster mac and cheese as a main, and blueberry pie for desert. Baldvin and I split all courses, and that was plenty of food. We would have been full without desert but just couldn't resist! The salad came out in a martini glass and was a great way to start the meal- light and fresh. The arugula underneath was a dry on its own and needed a little dressing. (There was nothing wrong with the quality of the arugula, it just needed dressing.). The mac and cheese was very good- excellent flavor. There wasn't a lot of lobster in it though. We noticed it since we were sharing and felt a little like we needed to divvy it out. There were toasted breadcrumbs on top that gave a nice crunch to the dish. I liked this place a lot. We went during an off time so the bar wasn't crowded. Both bartenders we had were very sweet and gave hiking advice on some good trails. I tried to eat dinner here but they were unable to seat us despite a promise of a 30 minute wait. On 10/8 at approx. 6:50 pm, we requested a table for 4, and were told it would be a 30 minute wait. Sure enough, 30 minutes later the phone rang and we returned to the restaurant, only to find that our table had been given to someone else by a server without informing the hostess. I was told to return 10 minutes later, but a table then was still not available. 30 minutes after that, we still had not been seated despite assurances that "we were their top priority." My wife is diabetic, so the timing of her meals is critical. Had we known our 30 minute wait would be over an hour, we would have made other plans. I'd rather give this place no stars, but to review a place stars must be designated. The reason it's only 1 star is because it's a bit difficult to review a place when they don't give you the chance to try them out. We scouted this place out after a long travel day. Their website stated they offered a full menu until midnight from June through November, but were told when we arrived at 10 pm that the kitchen was closed. I'm pretty sure the bartender just wanted to leave early, but we left so I'm not sure what the intention was. Beware if you're looking for food in Bar Harbor a little later than normal. read more

The food specials here were excellent. Very modestly priced beer selection. I ended up with the "Lobster Bake" special, which included a cup of clam chowder, 40 mussels a 1 1/4 lb.. Maine lobster, onion rings (any side you want, ONION RINGS WERE AMAZING btw) and an apple pie dessert. Great value for under $32 and very friendly wait staff. Had dinner at Finback Alehouse recently after a long day in Acadia National Park. We sat at the bar (you can get food service at the bar) since there was a short wait for a table. One thing I liked is that the whole front of the bar was open to the street, so there was a lot of fresh air. The beers on tap were good and the bartender was very friendly and attentive. My husband had the oysters as an appetizer and said they were excellent. He had a clam roll for dinner and said that was good (clams were good, the bun was so-so). The accompanying sides - coleslaw, a fragrant bed of rice and beans and jerk sauce completed the dish perfectly. It has been the best Caribbean food we've had in America! Loved the variety and here. My son got the wings and he really enjoyed them. My daughter got the quinoa veggie burger and fries. Very good! Husband got the wedge salad, he very much enjoyed it. My husband and I went for a quiet lunch here during vacation and Finback's is/was the site of my very FIRST Maine-style lobster roll!!! So good! I loved that they have a side salad option as opposed to fries, and I super duper loved that you could get a side Caesar salad. The salad had just the right amount of dressing and was the perfect accompaniment to a reasonably-sized lobster roll. Forget the lobster roll, Maine should be famous for the waffle nachos and lobster/crab mac n cheese. Mark was a rad server of our party of 11. Now back to the awesome nacho waffles, we had ours prepared sans olives and they were scarfed down before they could cool off. They have just the right amount of kick to them with the salsa, jalapeños and guacamole. The ankle biters eating with us didn't let the spice bother them at all. While on a recent weekend visit to Maine, I made it my goal to eat lobster as often as possible, and Finback Alehouse let me accomplish this twice in one meal! We stopped here for lunch after wandering the streets of Bar Harbor and souvenir shopping. It was a quaint bar and restaurant with wood panelling and Captain's chairs. They had a lot of local brews on tap, so I tried a local unfiltered Maine cider ale. Yum! They offered a special between 3-5 pm for a Lobster Roll, soup and a side for $17.95. Unfortunately it was noontime, but I liked the concept, so that's what I ordered (I was charged about $20 in the end since it wasn't "time" yet.) I ordered clam chowder, but the waitress misheard me and brought out the lobster bisque instead. I'm kind of glad for the mix-up. It was luscious, buttery, creamy lobster heaven in a cup! My lobster roll was also very good. It had celery in it for an added crunch, which I liked. It tasted very fresh and the bun was buttered and grilled to perfection. The only reason this place does not get a perfect score of 5 stars is because the service was very slow. There was one waitress for the dining area (about 7 or 8 full tables). They had a lot of beers on tap including local ones from Bar Harbor and a few from Maine that I hadn't tried. There's also a cool bar that sort of looks like a boat. There were lots of people eating, even though it was past 10pm and they supposedly had closed the kitchen. We sat at the bar and ordered some "nacho fries". Whoa. It probably is death on a plate, but it was fantastic. Instead of tortilla chips, the toppings of the nachos are piled onto waffle fries. I came here upon the recommendation of the Budget car rental counter guy over at the Bangor Airport, and was rather disappointed by our first meal in Maine. We ordered the fish and chips, and neither the fish nor the chips were seasoned. At all. Liberal sprinklings of salt helped the dish slightly but not by much, since the salt grains merely bounced off the fried battered coating. It's a pity, because the fish was clearly fresh and good quality. The tartar sauce was also poor, and unfortunately did not add to the fish with its insipid, watery quality.
