Been meaning to try this place after getting all their coupons in the mail. Of course their advertised lobster had me curious. Its actually alot bigger inside than the outside would suggest. the menu surprised me with how extensive it was, lots of seafood options. Waitress was pleasant & was responsive to our specific questions and requests. I got the seafood trio of shrimp pulpo & tilapia in diablo sauce. Wife got the shrimp fajitas. Portions large, shrimp were plentiful and fairly large & tasty. The veggies w/ her fajitas were nicely cooked on the hot plate. The diablo sauce on my seafood was perfect! spicy and tasty, not too hot but just enough. HOwever, i can see some folks might think it was a bit too spicy (not for me though). The pulpo was a little tough but tasty and the tilapia was very tender and absorbed the sauce very well. I havent been too impressed with Mexican restaurants in the area but this one wasnt too gringo or touristy, just very tasty with a homemade vibe. When the waitress wasnt around, the manager (I assume that what he was) was very friendly & attentive & met our needs. So we pass by this place all the time and finally decided to give it a chance. We were a party of 6 and some of us wanted breakfast and some of us wanted lunch. The menu accommodated everyone. This place was ok.... We stopped in around 730 on a Friday night, it was around 50% full but with 3 waiters I would say it was pretty "empty". They were quick to seat us and the lady brought us fresh tortillas right after we sat. In terms of complimentary food this place was great. The food was ok, prices ok. My gripe is on service. After we finished our first round of chips we asked for more, they brought us a bowl of salsa and then 10+ mins later they brought us chips which is right when the food arrived. The waitress never checked back on us and the food was a bit delayed from our order. The food was good you just need to be prepared to wait a bit. read more

This restaurant stole from me and they will steal from you. How did they steal from me? I'm glad you asked. They have a $25 "tierra" taco platter that comes with carne asada, chicken, pork, and chorizo. It serves 2-3 people. For $4 more you can get the "mar y tierra" taco platter that comes with shrimp instead of chorizo. That's what we chose, the $29 mar y tierra taco platter. Here comes the first theft. Those extra $4 only gets you 3 shrimp. I politely asked what happened to the rest of our shrimp, but was told that's how they do it. Unsatisfied with that answer, I asked to downgrade to the $25 platter but they refused because they'd already cooked the 3 shrimp. They offered only 2 additional shrimp and it was getting to be a headache sending the server back and forth so I accepted. While eating we overheard the couple at the table next to us complaining that whatever meal they ordered only included a single shrimp. More people stolen from. The final theft was after we finished the 5 tortillas they brought us, we noticed they weren't bringing any more. Upon questioning our server, we were informed it would be $1.50 for 3 more tortillas. We live within walking distance so this is our go-to for Mexican food. We're here a few times a month at least and we bring our out-of-town friends when they come to visit us. We always enjoy every item we order and the staff is always so kind to us and our two young children. Went here with a coupon for Sunday Brunch (2 for 1) - either $9.95 without champange or $12.95 with champange. It was pretty good. Now don't go thinking this is some elaborate buffet, because it isn't. This is a very small place - think mom and pop kind of atmosphere. Servers were friendly. The lady who hand makes the corn tortillas and brings them to your table is very nice (they are yummy tortillas by the way). You can also order off the menu if you don't want the brunch, which is a nice option. Now there isn't a huge variety, but there was plenty to eat. The only thing I really didn't like was that there wasn't an omelet to order option. I did try the scrambled eggs that were in a red sauce - that sauce was so so good. 2 types of potatoes - which were great. There are several more "authentic" Mexican dishes (think meat with sauces), chicken fajitas, salad options, 3 kinds of soup (chicken tortilla which was the bomb! and there was meunodo as well). Nice fruit and pastry selection. The only thing I tried that I didn't like was the enchiladas. Thought there were cold, which was a turn off. It's a great deal, especially with the coupon. Came here for dinner on a Tuesday with my family. The service was poor, but not the low point of the meal. Wait for drink order, wait for drinks, wait to order, didn't know if the nachos were made with real cheese or sauce. The chili colorado tasted like it had been in the kitchen for a week. I got a bogo birthday dinner coupon, so we decided to try it out. The restaurant is a little off the beaten track, but we had no trouble parking or getting a table. The chips were just fine, but the salsa was delightful - really fresh and flavorful even though it was very mild. We tried the casa Blanca platter, with a tamal, cheese enchilada, beef taco, and Chile relleno with rice and beans. Everything was good, but the star was the Chile relleno. The sauce was flavorful with a little kick, the Chile was just the right amount of spicy, and the cheese was plentiful and wonderfully melty. The enchilada sauce was tasty, the taco shell was light and crispy, and the shredded beef was flavorful and juicy. The beans were obviously made fresh, and the rice was well seasoned. I went to La Casa Blanca on recommendation from a friend. When I walked in I had high hopes, it looked like a cool little place. Then a lady brought us warm tortillas and butter; things were looking up. But as I looked around I noticed the tortilla stand in the corner. She didn't have a normal tortilla griddle; instead she was using a propane powered camp stove with a skillet. I'm not a building inspector or anything, but I'm pretty sure you need a vent if you're going to burn propane inside. The I realized the tortillas were coming out of a cloth covered basket. I looked back down at my tortilla and was suddenly convinced that it was a bagged, machine made tortilla. I didn't see the bag for sure, just pretty sure the thing didn't look hand made. We each ordered a bottle of Dos XX ($4.50 each, a little pricey). I ordered a bean and cheese burrito, for $5.50 (the staple and true test of any good Mexican joint). The GF ordered a chicken and rice burrito, for $6-7. Both were terrible. The beans tasted like they came from a can, and the GF said the chicken burrito was bone dry. She took half home and I threw half my burrito away. We had to run some errands and when we got back to the car her half burrito had stunk the place up. Nasty, we threw it away. This place is overpriced, underwhelming, and trying to get away with one too many things. Of all the crummy burrito joints in all the towns in all the world, don't go to this one. read more

I created a yelp account just so I can write this review. My boyfriend and I came to this place after we had seen the rave reviews and the handmade tortillas. We decided to order the Mar y Tierra platter, which is a taco platter intended for 2-3 people. It was $4 more than the Tierra plate because it included shrimps instead of chorizo. Little did we know that we were only going to get 3 shrimps for $4 extra! RIDICULOUS! When we spoke to our server, who had to go back and forth several times with someone that appeared to be the manager, he told us that the plate just simply only came with 3 shrimps. We asked if we could downgrade to the Tierra plate and the response was that they were unable to do so because the order was already in the system, all they could do was bring 2 more shrimps. We proceeded to eat our meal. We later found out that the meal not only skimps you on shrimp but on tortillas too! How can a meal that is meant for 2-3 people only come with 3 tortillas! Every additional order of 3 tortillas costs $1.50 more! HOW CAN A "TACO" PLATTER COME ONLY WITH 3 TORTILLAS!!! I think at that point it can no longer be called a taco platter! This place is just trying to nickel and dime you. I would have been fine if I had been told this information in advance but instead I have been left with this feeling of being scammed. My inlaws were visiting from out of town, and tried out La Casa Blanca a couple times during the week, and convinced my wife and I to come with them for the Sunday Brunch buffet. Apparently, things are different during the week. Much different. The buffet was fair, with a modest selection of a variety of things, and our hostess informed us that the kitchen would handle a whole bunch of other things as special orders as part of the buffet. The food itself was passable. Not the greatest Mexican cuisine in San Diego county, nor the greatest compared to others in the same price/atmosphere range. The biggest drawback to the Sunday brunch: the heat from the steam tables at the buffet dampened our enjoyment of the meal. It made that entire side of the room humid and hot, probably around 80 degrees, compared to the 75 degrees outside. This place is really cute. The ambiance is cozy and the servers were friendly. Chips came out hot and the salsa was tasty. I came here with a coupon and had the beef chimichanga, while my husband had the combination plate. The sauce on the chimichanga had more veggies than I'm used to (onion and strips of pepper). There were also pieces of onion, etc. in the meat inside. The beef tasted good and was soft, but there were some chunks of fat and/or gristle inside that I had to pick out which is always a big negative factor for me. A friend recommended La Casa Blanca to me about a year ago - I have been hooked ever since, going almost once a week for dinner. Their food is amazing - especially their chicken fajitas. It is suppose to be an order for one, but two people can share and still have leftovers to take home. Their staff is always friendly and very helpful with fast service. I go there so much that I don't have to order anymore, they see me and place my regular order for me. They recently expanded the restaurant - which turned out beautiful. On Friday and Saturday nights they have a sweet lady there that makes homemade tortillas and brings them to your table, still warm with butter! It's like eating candy! I loved this place, and ate there two nights in a row on my last business trip. We were staying at the Holiday Inn Express two doors down, and thought we would give it a shot as it was so close. Both night my audit team went in pretty late in the evening, but both times we were impressed with the quality of service and food. My first time there I had the tortilla soup with a bean tostada. It was divine, and I was excited to come back the next night. The next night I enjoyed some chicken dish that hailed more from South America (per my Latino co-worker). It was so good, and so much food that I had the leftovers for lunch the next day. We've already recommended this place for all of my firm's audit teams as we tend to stay in that hotel often. I'm not a beef fanatic it's just... the beef was surprisingly good. Enchilada...was really small/skinny. The tortilla and sauce were good but it was the most anorexic enchilada I've ever had. At $10.95 for an enchilada, taco, rice & beans combo I felt short changed. Tostada...tortilla, beans and all the toppings it was all good. Five rolled tacos 6.95 ordered to go. Gave them to my son a hour or so later they were soggy and falling apart. I'd never met a rolled taco that wasn't (at least) still stiff after being refrigerated. Servers were affable but forgetful and liked to stop and chat or give another patron a shoulder rub right after I request a hotter salsa...for the second time.
