The Kimpton chain does a great job with their restaurants and this is no exception. We haven't had a bad meal here and have tried just about everything (the salmon is our favorite). The house pickled vegetables they comp you at the start are a nice touch and if you're not super hungry, entrees are usually large enough to split. On your reservation ask for one of their comfy booths (and do make a reservation since it's not like in the old days when you could just waltz in without one - business has picked up). read more

Wonderful food. Great wings, steak, chicken, brussel sprouts, whatever you get you know its going to be great. Its on the pricy side but I think its worth it. Very good selection of liquor as well if you're into that sort of thing. Atmosphere is nice. Only downside is occasionally you get those waiters talking to you like they are making a lifelong friend. I understand that some places may push this but if were not clicking dont force it. I dont care how much you know about the wine list, if you grew up on a farm, or where the cauliflower is from. Arrived in town just in time to have a tasty dinner at Finch & Fork. Right away, we ordered up the hush puppies. They came out sizzling on a mini cast iron skillet and on the side, a chipotle honey for dipping. Our waiter lingered a bit for our drink orders, and I went with the Force of Nature: Tempranillo. A yummy red that hit the spot! Our eyes scattered around the menu, I ordered a market fresh taco (salmon) and he had the prosciutto flatbread. I also ordered the asparagus with a sunny side up egg and bacon vinaigrette. A mason jar full of house pickled veggies came to the table as well, and those were a nice surprise. Delicious food with impeccable service. I decided to try this place out for dinner and walking in, I felt very welcomed and was quickly greeted with a waiter. I had their New York Steak and mushroom flatbread as a side, both of which were very delicious! I highly recommend trying the mushroom flatbread while it's still on the menu. read more

Not sure F&F needs another review but I'm writing one anyway. Went for Easter Brunch which is usually a bad time to try a restaurant. Despite the holiday, everything was well managed. The server didn't seem overwhelmed, the timing was good and the $1 mimosas after your first one was genius although they weren't very strong. Understandably, the brunch menu was limited. My eggs Benedict over crab cakes arrived tepid. I thought they were decent. Hub had the pork belly and eggs which had a lot more flavor. Portions were underwhelming although we don't eat things bigger than our heads. Because I dig the interior and atmosphere, I'll give them another try for lunch or dinner in hopes of a better menu. read more

I hadn't been here in awhile but was happy to come with a friend for her birthday brunch. I remembered the food being tasty and so did she so we were greatly disappointed in what we ate today. My friend ordered the Huevos Rancheros on the recommendation of the waitress and I ordered the two eggs any style- both of us ordered mimosas which are $13 each and $1 a refill. My eggs came over easy despite my ordering over medium, with plain toast (we are taking dry. No butter, no jam-just one slice of toasted bread) and some unseasoned potatoes and greasy bacon. My friends Huevos Rancheros were worse. She said the beans were bland so I had to try it. How bad could it be, right? Pretty damn bad as it turns out. There was ZERO seasoning. It seriously tasted like someone mashed beans and water and served it up. The waitress eventually stopped by and gave us hot sauce, ketchup, and butter and jam for my sad, solitary piece of toast. We had another round of drinks for $1 to make up for the less than palatable food we were eating. When the bill came, I saw we were charged full price for the additional mimosas which our waitress corrected once it was pointed out to her. It wasn't that busy so be sure to check your bill here. I don't know, for the price it was subpar at best. Too bad really, because it's a beautiful space in a nice hotel but food quality has really gone downhill. We are locals and will not be back- there are too many other amazing brunch spots (like Boathouse) to waste money here. read more

Came here for Easter dinner and after a little bit of convincing, was able to get a booth seat instead of the smallest table on earth. *Started with oysters that were small, fresh, clean. 5/5 *Shishito peppers were tangy and well charred, made for a good nibble. 4/5 *Cauliflower soup, woow. They really transformed the humble cauliflower to a delicious flavored, velvety smooth soup. I think there was a taste of roasted garlic, it was very nice 5/5 *Scallops with bacon vinegarette, corn, avocado and citrus segments were amazing. The scallops were juicy and went so well with the bacon and corn, and the avocado and citrus almost made a salad on their own and lightened the dish, ate every last morsel on the plate 4/5 *Sticky toffee pudding is always a hard dessert to resist when I see it on the menu. It was bad. Wasn't as sticky or as toffee-y as I wanted. It was a miss 1/5 *Fire roasted banana milkshake was the bomb diggity. As far as banana milkshakes go, not artificial tasting in the least and the fire roasted bananas imparted an amazing taste to the milkshake. With some great reviews from Yelp, my fiance and I decided to try Finch & Fork while we were visiting Santa Barbara. We had made reservations via Open Table for 7, but when our event for the day was over early and we suddenly became very hungry, I changed the reservations to 6. No problem, Open Table is a wonderful app! I do wish it was integrated with this restaurant through Yelp though. We arrived about 5 minutes early and found the place a little empty. A little odd, but I was happy that we would be able to have a nice seat. The waitress checked us in, and proceeded to seat us. But not without walking by a waiter and asking if someone was working tonight. Okay, no problem. They had a brief conversation and she went on to seat us. Here's where my problem starts... I realize all restaurants have sections. With waitstaff assigned to each area. And I'm very aware of the problems that can ensue when customers ask to be reseated. So, with that in mind, back to the review. Our host, seated us in a space, that literally looked like an afterthought in the room design. It was a bench with a cocktail sized table and a chair. The back of the bench only went up to about the middle of my back, the rest being open to the restaurant entrance/foyer. I felt very exposed. And sort of in the way. The seat was between two large corner booths, and it took some shimmy-ing to get back into the spot. I sat there, with my fiance across from me, hoping to some how acclimate to the space. I looked at him and he was equally uncomfortable. His chair stuck out a few feet into the walk way. Our waiter came up and greeted us, and was initially very pleasant. He gave us water and our menus. When he left, my fiance asked if I wanted to move. I declined, not wanting to offend our waiter. After a minute, I just couldn't get comfortable, that's when my fiance asked if it would be possible to move. Keep in mind, the place was near empty (there was only one other couple in a booth). The waiter looked puzzled, and proceeded to convince us that this table was just fine. Wait...what?! He told us how great it was because we could sit together. Umm...no thanks! After some time, he gave in and seated us in a new spot. Not without having to take our own water glasses and menus. Having to explain, then defend why the table was uncomfortable was pretty awkward. We weren't asking for a special table. We just didn't want that one. Especially if I'm paying $125 for the meal. Once seated, our new waiter was fantastic. The cocktail menu was extensive. There were some really great unique drinks. The Guava Jelly was top knotch! My fiance had the Saturday Lasagne special, and I the trout. Honestly, I'm not that big into trout, but this was very nice! Complete with spaetzle, it was quite tasty. The lasagne was okay. It came in a heavy cream sauce, and was very rich. It could have been half the size it was. The creme brulee was expertly finished. The abundance of fresh berries along with honeycomb was a nice touch. In all, the food and drinks were great. It was just the terrible service initially that knocked a star off the this review. And after seeing a few reviews around the same time as our visit, I wonder if this poor service wasn't just a fluke. read more

From the moment we walked in without reservations on a busy Friday night we were treated as if they were delighted to see and serve us. We were quickly seated in a prime location. The hostess was cheerful and took extra time to tell us what she thought was especially good on the menu. She seemed quite sincere and excited about the food. It didn't feel rehearsed. Our server was knowledgeable friendly and professional as well. The service was on point, perfect timing for each course. The food was very good. My husband had the Friday night special, which was a seafood pot pie. He practically licked the plate clean. I had the braised short ribs. Our salads were very good as well. I'm always searching for the best fried chicken and Finch & Fork didn't disappoint. I would actually give them 4-1/2 stars if i could. We started with the blistered shishito peppers and the cream caramelized onion soup. If i can only make that soup! For some reason i was expecting something like french onion soup, brothy. This was creamy heaven. The onion breadcrumb topping was yummy! My friend and i shared the buttermilk fried chicken. All i can say is thank god it was Tuesday! That was the special of the day. It came with mashed potatoes and pickles. I'm not sure i'm glad this is far from my home or not. I suppose I am or I'd be there every Tuesday. Super cute place and good service. Wow! What a great addition to the Santa Barbara dining scene. The new Finch & Fork is the completely revamped restaurant in The Canary Hotel sporting a new semi casual wine country decor meets town and country. We were thoroughly impressed with the fresh farm to table menu. For starters we nibbled on Garlic Herb Fries, Burrata, Shishito Peppers, and the Charcuterie board and everything was delicious. Our entree's were perfectly executed, including a wonderful braised beef short rib and local halibut. The chef does a wonderful job of letting the ingredients sing. Dessert did not disappoint either, with an addictive milkshake which will probably reach cult status. Service was spot on. This will be a new favorite spot of ours for sure! read more

Slightly upscale restaurant so probably not ideal for a quick/cheap bite, but if you're looking for a slightly special dinner, this should be on your list to consider. Chef James Siao is a local celebrity, the food is delicate and sophisticated, but the portions are generour. Quite on the pricey side though, but you get what you pay for. Lovely ambience. Overpriced and Over hyped.. You are basically paying for the ambiance and the expensive decor. The food was below average, we had a party of 12 and none of us were really impressed by it. The waiter seemed to have an attitude and was annoyed by the questions we asked. He kept trying to persuade us to get dessert when we repeatedly said no. Came here tonight to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday. I honestly would have given this place 5 solid freaking stars in a heartbeat based off the food, location, ambience, and did I mention the food?? BUT! I'm sad to say the service tonight tainted it for us. I mean... I'm writing the review the same night I ate here.. that's saying something since doing so is usually meant only for an absolutely amazing review or a horribly bad review. I find myself in an odd position as this review will be both good and bad. The service tonight brings my rating down to a 2.5, but I'll round up to 3 for good faith and because the food was seriously that bomb. Valet was easy and the attendants there were super polite. We had a reservation so the wait to be seated was just a few minutes. Then we waited a little longer than normal for our server (Brett) which we just assumed was due to it being a Saturday night, although it didn't seem packed. However, when he finally came around to us, he was inattentive and rushed. He took our orders quickly and explained the menu as if he was at an auction. Every time he came by our table it was so quick - no interaction whatsoever: 'How is everything?' he asked as he was walking away already (don't ask if you don't care about the answer!), placing our check on the table - again while walking away (couldn't even pass as a rolling stop) as he just as quickly muttered 'Thank you', grabbing our check - no words or checking to see how we wanted to pay but lucky for us we were sitting at the booth right next to the register so he just asked us loudly over the divider, bringing back our receipts with again just a short, terse 'thank you' and hastily going on his way. To be clear, it's not like we wanted to have full length conversations with him nor did we expect to be spoiled with attention either.. but it just put such a sour note on our experience. We felt incredibly rushed like we were unwanted patrons to just get on our way. We understand that serving is not easy by any means, especially when the restaurant is packed and busy (which again it actually wasn't.. lots of empty tables on our side of the restaurant)... maybe they were even short staffed, but that is no excuse for simply the lack of service we received. After we left, I checked yelp to see if our server had been reviewed previously and lo and behold he was (unless there is more than one Brett there...) and with RAVE reviews!! I was shocked and to be honest, I felt shafted. I'm just going to hope it wasn't due to anything shady and that maybe he was just having a bad day or something.. seems like he served others well and we were just an unlucky group tonight. On a happier note, the food as I've said before was amazeballs. The pickled veggies were yummy and unique. We also ordered the brussel sprouts to start - perfectly cooked with bacon, maple, and cheese. I had the scallops which they were able to prepare sans grapefruit easily (have to avoid grapefruit because of a medication I take, but I can never avoid scallops). There were three large scallops served with corn with just the right amount of crunch, avocado, and bacon - would definitely get this again. My husband ordered the rib eye - the sides were great, but for his personal taste the cut was a little too fatty. MIL had the sea bass and the the field greens salad - both were larger portions than expected and she finished it all. For dessert we had the creme brulee - light, creamy, crunchy caramelized sugar, not too sweet, and perfect when paired with the tartness of the fresh fruits. All in all we'd come here again. I have hope it would be a better experience overall than the one we had tonight. read more
