One of the best meals I've ever eaten. We came after a wedding with a group of approx. 25 people and they services our group quickly and efficiently. The staff was as incredible as the food; making this such a wonderful dining experience. I can't wait until we go back to Santa Barbara so we can eat here again. I have been to Finch & Fork a few years ago and was really excited to try it again. They are now on a rooftop so there are a few things that can't be helped so I won't comment on those. My husband had the pork chop and I had the steak frites. I remember the food being much better. The steak quality was not there and the pork chop was just okay. We did have their tots and calamari and those were good but nothing to write home about for the price. Maybe it's due to Covid but not sure I'll be back. read more

They use locally grown ingredients. Their menu features traditional American staples but with a modern twist. We had fresh oysters on the half shelf and deviled eggs that had been dipped in a beet pickle juice and topped with smoked trout, very tasty! Our main courses consisted of the prime rib, perfectly cooked, tasty and juicy. It was served with a light and crusty pop-over. The trout was delightful! So we did a day trip to Big Sur that was disappointing & decided to chk this place out for dinner on our way bk to LA. Finch&Fork totally made up for our whole day! First off, the Figueroa & Guava Jelly drinks were awesome! & apparently award-winning, with good reason. The deviled egg apps were as good as everyone said - really like the smoked trout combo. The complimentary pickled veggies were so good we ate the whole jar - I want to learn how to make that pickling brine & pickle all my veggies. The creamed caramelized onion soup is my new favorite soup & I am now obsessed with figuring out how to replicate it. The lamb burger was as good as others have said - so juicy & the date chutney provided the perfect 'ketchup'. Finally, the fireside milkshake dessert was the yummy cherry on top of the whole night - omg banana milkshake w/salted caramel & graham crackers topped w/torched meringue... This was a pleasant experience, made so by the wonderful server, who happened to be the wine buyer for the restaurant. Great recommendations for by the glass pairings with our delicious food. My husband loved his West Coast oysters while I had the yummy Brussels Sprouts. The New York Strip Steak was excellent and I enjoyed my Thursday Special -the Cioppino- rich and delicious. The white wine I had was "Lieu dit" Sauvignon Blanc and I would seek it out to drink again. Not the usual overly crisp stuff and yet... Hubby found the Tablas Creek Syrah to be particularly good for balancing the Chimichurri sauce that was served with his steak. Yum! read more

This place is located inside the Kimpton hotel, which is absolutely gorgeous. We came after the lunch rush so it wasn't super crowded. They provided us with pickled crudités for snacking which only I enjoyed, lol. I ordered the kale salad (came with goat cheese and pine nuts with a lemon vinaigrette) with a side of salmon, hubby ordered the chopped salad that came with salmon, and the kids had mushroom pizzas from the kids menu. I really enjoyed my salad, the flavors all worked well with each other and the salmon was cooked to perfection. Service was decent. I think that my childhood friend, Barney the Dinosaur, really hit the nail on the head about one of my favorite guilty pleasure comfort foods with this song: "Macaroni, macaroni, mac and cheese Three times daily, pretty please! The girls and I came here for BRUNCH on a Saturday morning, and it wasn't packed at all. There were probably only 2 other tables occupied. The decor here is similar to many of the newer, trendy restaurants that give off that "hipster" vibe. Anyways, we were seated right away, and we ordered some cocktails right away. I'm personally not a fan of Bloody Marys, but I wish I was, because they looked pretty bomb here. I love all the pickled garnishes they use in the bloody marys, but I just cant down the drink, lol. They have a bloody mary bar, which I thought was cool. I went with the Mimosa, which was $9, and only $1 more for each refill. You can pick between a few flavors: Orange, Grapefruit, or Peach. I had both the Grapefruit and Peach Mimosas, and they were good. Nothing out of the ordinary, though. I loved that the menu offers organic, and healthy ingredients. The eggs are all organic, and their dishes seem pretty healthy overall. I went with the SHORT RIB & SWEET POTATO HASH. The roasted sweet potatoes were cubed, topped with tender, marinated short rib, topped with two sunny side up eggs, and served with chimichurri and horseradish. The sweet potatoes were cooked perfectly, and paired deliciously with the short rib. The short rib was fork tender, and tasted great with the chimicurri and horseradish. The first few bites were tasty, but it got boring after the 8th bite. I would suggest sharing a couple items with a friend. I would rate this dish a 7/10, and I think $18 is a bit steep for this dish. I tried some of my friend's ROASTED PORK BELLY & EGG. Can't go wrong with pork belly! Poached eggs, served on top of toasted bread, with smashed avocado, and topped with chipotle hollandaise. I love toast and avocado, and adding the pork belly and poached eggs were a huge plus! A bit on the fattier side, but it was delicious! I also tried some of the SEARED AHI TUNA dish that my other friend ordered. The presentation of this plate was beautiful-- bright colors, and the tuna looked super fresh! Taste-wise, this dish was pretty basic.. The tuna didn't have much flavor, and the other ingredients on the plate didn't seem to go well with the tuna-- plain slices of cucumbers and quinoa. It would have been nice if the tuna was sliced thinner, and drizzled with a light sauce. Overall, the service was great, and the ambiance was nice. The food was so-so, which is why I'm rating this a 3 star. read more

We came here for dinner tonight (2/20/14) for our wedding anniversary and we had such a lovely meal! First of all, I wish I could remember our servers name, he was an all-around good guy, worked his butt off and was also training a new server. We were there at about 6.30. He was very attentive and it was clear that he loves making people happy. As soon as he knew it was our anniversary he offered us a drink on the house (so sad I had so say no, this pregnant girl would have loved a glass of bubbly!) but my husband gladly accepted. We ordered the baked Mac and Cheese, husband got the chilli caramel ribs, and I got the sea bass. We could have eaten the Mac and Cheese all day! Creamy and delicious, but not too rich. The ribs fell off the bone, and had a great balance of spice and sweetness. The sea bass was delicious, but the crumbled garnish on top tasted a little bad to me. Honestly though, the dish overall was great, so I ignored it happily. Especially because it had baked Brussels Sprouts, which I love! Our server threw us a dessert on him our way, which we were happy to accept. Order the Banana Milk Shake! It's such a decadent mix of salted caramel, banana, graham crackers and meringue. And way fun to share! Have to share this funny moment we had with our server.....he spotted me making a chicken out of my cloth napkin (yep, I'm a huge dork in nice restaurants) so he walks over and put a ghost made out of a paper napkin on our table, and it started floating around by itself! We were laughing so hard I thought I busted a rib! He was nice enough to share his little party trick with us. Good guy!! Finch & Fork Restaurant, formerly Coast Restaurant & Bar, continues to deliver delicious eats and tasty drinks, with an interior face lift and some fantastic additions to their menu. With a new entrance off Chapala at Carrillo, Finch & Fork is accessible without having to go through the Canary Hotel. They vamped up their decor and logo, with colorful hues of burnt orange, vibrant green and royal blue. It adds a fresh, homelike appeal that is very comfortable yet still feels fairly high end. High end, without the attitude or pretentiousness. Happy Hour. Their happy hour, I am relieved to say, is still just as fabulous as it was under Coast's name. An array of various appetizers such as oysters, ribs, smoked salmon deviled eggs, etc. at a discounted price. While I'm on the subject of smoked salmon devil eggs, they have had a make over for the better! (Check out my pic.) Very flavorful and creative. There are about five cocktails available for $5, as well as, house red & white wine, and beer. We love the manhattan. Eats. Finch & Fork seems to be building on the comfort food vibe with delicious new mac and cheese offerings and rich pork dishes. Yum! Right up my alley. If you love their chili ribs, you'll be pleased to know that they are still on the menu and every bit as flavorful, sweet, smokey, spicy and tender as they have always been. I loved the mac and cheese! Baked, deep dish, cheeeeesy, with lots of chopped, thick, crispy bacon. I am so picky about my mac and cheese being raised with parents and grandparents with southern Alabama roots, and F&F did not disappointment. The star for me, other than the incredibly friendly, attentive and warm service from the bar and wait staff, is the Caramelized Banana Milkshake! This is like no other milkshake you have tried before. It is so good, I had to go back the next day and order it again! Let me break down the components of it for you here: Imagine a large mason jar, envision a generous layer of rich, creamy caramel at the bottom of the mason jar, then imagine a smooth, thick, caramelized banana milkshake atop the caramel, with chunks of graham cracker sprinkled throughout. Now top that with fluffy peaks of toasted meringue!!!! (My mouth is watering just thinking about.) That my friends, is sweet, culinary genius! Served with a straw and spoon for sipping and scooping. It's wonderful! All and all, I love this place and will definitely be returning. The other day, me and a friend came to have dinner. I have been here before, but not for dinner. The staff was really attentive and really nice and the atmosphere is alway lively. I order the RAINBOW TROUT because it sounded good and our waiter, Eric, had recommended this dish. It was the best fish I have ever had. The Rainbow Trout portion was big, the fish was grilled to perfection and the flavor was out of this world. I don't usually like the fish skin because of the texture, but this time I devoured it because it was crispy, but the fish meat was moist and tender. It was served over pan roasted spaetzle and it was topped with crispy pork, baby spinach and shaved fennel. All of those ingredients and in combination with the lemon butter was just to die for. We had time for one last meal in Santa Barbara and I turned to my fellow yelpers for help. The friendly guy who checked us out of our hotel confirmed a) we were guaranteed to have an uh-mazing brunch here and b) there would be no wait due to the price point. Based on the price point commentI feared we'd be spending our kids college savings at lunch, but I didn't find it to be all that expensive. Yes, more than the typical brunch, but after eating here our kiddos back home would be happy to know they still may have a bright collegiate future ahead. Phew. The restaurant itself is attached to the lovely Kimpton Hotel, Canary Hotel. After checking out their beautifully ornate lobby (& restrooms) I may just need to bookmark for a future trip to Santa Barbara. After a run in with a yucky stomach flu earlier in the week I hadn't felt much like eating during my vacation, but on this particular morning I was starting to feel like myself again. Annnnddd I was famished! I decided to keep it simple and ordered the wheat french toast (bring on the carbs), which couldn't have made me happier. The portion was quite large, but I somehow managed to polish it all off. And there went my stomach flu diet! My husband ordered was also quiet happy with his short rib & sweet potato hash. He said the fresh horseradish was especially a nice touch. The service was a bit slow, but fortunately we weren't in a rush to leave Santa Barbara. Thank you yelpers for yet another good meal! Dinner here last night for the first time really blew me out of the water. Every single thing we ordered was delicious, and the service was impeccable! I can honestly say that last nights dinner was one of the most well rounded and memorable dinners I've had in a long time, and I eat out pretty often in LA, SD, and SB. Brett, our server, was a delight and incredibly helpful with his recommendations and very knowledgeable about the menu. We really enjoyed his company and service! We could not have had as amazing of an experience here last night if it wasn't for him. We started our meal with the sunchoke shmear appetizer which had the best smoked salmon I've ever had topping it, and I don't even like smoked salmon usually. Our table ordered the pork chops, sea scallops, buttermilk fried chicken and the duck, all of which were phenomenal in their own ways. Here's a little on each dish: The buttermilk fried chicken was the crispiest fried chicken I've ever had, and it was so juicy and well seasoned, with the bonus of being a huge portion! Lots to share. The pork chop was amaaaaazing, juicy, tender, and with all the flavors complementing each other perfectly. This one was a table favorite. Next were the sea scallops, big, cooked perfectly, and served with ruby red grapefruit which paired surprisingly very well with the scallop! Yum yum, I would order this again. And last but not least, was the duck, which is rendered to tender, flavorful pieces that I honestly wish I had gotten more of. To top off the meal, we all shared the fire roasted banana milkshake which if you get nothing else at this restaurant, GET THIS. Your life will be complete and you will have sweet dreams for the rest of your life with how good this is. Seriously, you get gooey toasted marshmallow, crunchy graham cracker clusters, and banana milkshake. I'm drooling just thinking of it again. Finch and fork is seriously underrated, and I think their food alone (although service is phenomenal too) is leagues above popular places in SB like The Lark or Bouchon. The "Coast" is no more! A better a name, a better menu and a few subtle changes and the Canary has a winner on it's hands! Hands down the best food I have had so far this year!!!! I was so excited to try it for dinner last night! I wasn't exactly sure when the first day would be for the new restaurant (turns out it was Monday) and I was looking forward to being the first to review. NOPE! Thanks Danah :( Actually her review nailed it and had she not written it I wouldn't have tried the banana milkshake for dessert! So thanks are in order. We started with appitizers, each of us ordered something different and we shared it around. We tried the Mac 'n Cheese, their version of Bruschetta, the asparagus and our favorite, the Agnolotti. We looked it up online so we wouldn't look stupid--it is like ravioli, the subtle difference is that agnolotti is stuffed and folded over, then cut on three sides unlike ravioli which is cut on all four... oh and agnolotti is not square it is rectangle. Does that subtle difference make it taste better??? ABSOLUTELY! Mmmmm It was served with mushrooms in a cream sauce. For dinner I had the Thursday special, Pork and Cork! (glad they didn't call the restaurant that) Which was a boneless pork shank that absolutely melted in your mouth! My friend had the strip steak which he said was the best he has ever tasted... and the wives both had the Scallops, one loved them and would order them again, the other- wasn't quite as thrilled. I tasted them and they were cooked perfectly. As I mentioned we ordered two orders of the Banana milkshake... I think that it will become a cult favorite for locals much like the bread pudding at the Palace. We also had an order of their very delicous Creme Brulee. While I focus on the food, our friend focuses on the atmosphere... It passed the Carole test! Not at all pretentious but warm and welcoming. The server was excellent and we had both the Manager (Reagan) and the Executive chef stop by our table several times to make sure we were having the great restaurant experience. I sincerely hope that the Santa Barbara locals embrace Finch & Fork and that everyone gives it a try. I am quite sure that nobody will be disappointed! read more

I've dined at Finch & Fork five times -- once for dinner, once for breakfast and three times for lunch. It's been a great experience every time! The main room has the relaxed feeling of a comfortable living space: soft lighting, comfy espresso colored leather booths, "rustic" wood tabletops, wood beam ceiling, hardwood floors with a decorative Persian-style rug. The atmosphere is upscale, but not stuffy or pretentious. The staff is friendly and responsive. Appropriately, the menu is mostly "comfort food". I'm now eating a vegan diet (plant based foods, no meat or dairy). The current menu is great for omnivores, but doesn't offer much for vegans like me. I had the steel cut oatmeal and a cold pressed juice blend there recently and it was delicious. But, I don't know if there is anything else on the menu I could eat. I've heard that the vegan diet is the fastest growing dietary trend ever, so I hope the head chef will get on board and add a few vegan-friendly dishes to the breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. I'd really like to be able to eat there more often! read more

Gluten-Free Banana Bread is amazing! It's gluten-free but certainly does not taste like it. It has a sweet banana nut flavor. The texture is good just not quite as moist or sticky like regular banana bread. Ask for a side of cream cheese; it makes it even more decadent. Rating: 5/5 Deviled Eggs are topped with smoked trout, pickled shallot, and olive relish. The deviled eggs are beautifully presented on a wooden plank. The eggs are pickled resulting in a beautiful purple halo on the edge reminiscent of kamaboko (Japanese fish cake). The yolk mixture is smooth and luxurious. The smoked trout adds a smoky and salty flavor like bacon. The olive relish and pickled shallots add a nice balance of acidity. Rating: 4.8/5 Roasted Pork Belly & Egg is toasted bread topped with smashed avocado, roasted pork belly, poached eggs, chipotle hollandaise, and served with home fries. This is a rustic version of eggs benedict. The toasted bread catches the juices from the pork and the avocado adds a nice creamy texture without being overbearing. The eggs are perfectly poached and burst with beautiful bright orange-yellow goodness. The chipotle hollandaise is smoky, spicy, and sweet. Rating: 4.5/5 Short Rib & Sweet Potato Hash is topped with sunny side eggs, fresh horseradish, and chimichurri. (Home fries were substituted for the sweet potato hash.) The presentation is reminiscent of a loco moco through the layered effect of the potatoes, short rib, and sunny side egg. The short rib is extremely tender and exudes flavors from the braising liquid like red wine and vegetables. The egg yolk provides a natural sauce adding a velvety richness to the dish. Aside from a somewhat odd server here, we had an amazing dinner at this location! We somewhat randomly picked it by searching in the area on yelp. Neither of us had been to Santa Barbara before and didn't really have any ideas of where to eat. This turned out to be an amazing dinner. We luckily were seated immediately in the bar area though they were a little crowded. We started with the deviled egg which were really really good. They were pickled, which gave them an interesting color and flavor. I then had a flatbread which was the perfect size and quite tasty and perfectly done. I also got to try a bite of the lamb burger - which was perhaps the best lamb burger that I've ever tasted! The atmosphere is really cute - dark and comfy and perfect for a chilly winter's evening. The restaurant side seemed a bit brighter and more 'fancy', but I was fine eating on the 'bar side'. This spot is in a fancy pants hotel which looked quite nice. The bathrooms were actually in the hotel, so I got to see a bit of the lobby/stairs/etc and it seemed very nice and luxurious. I just read that it is one of the nicest in the area in a travel magazine. Overall, I thought this place was fantastic. There were great wine selections in addition to great food selections and while our server was a bit odd, he was friendly and did chat about the menu with us. Where do I even start with this place? My date found this on Yelp, and after seeing what we thought was an ample food selection, we strolled on in. Firstly, WHY IS THIS PLACE LISTED AS TWO DOLLAR SIGNS? It's insanely expensive! My date and I got into a fight over the rather unaffordable prices, so there's that. Of course, for prices like that, you'd expect mouth-watering delicacies. But you'd be sorely mistaken, friend. The only delicacy here is what you wish you had actually bought with the money you just wasted on some weird, hipster-esque dish. Not only that, but the yelp pictures made the place appear to have tons of dishes, when the menu was only a page and had very little to choose from. On to the actual food experience: I got the salt and pepper chicken wings because, once again, price was an issue so I went for one of the cheapest menu items with the intention I could also enjoy a "craft cocktail". The wings had been unevenly seasoned, so some bites were pure star anise flavored bits of too-sweet chicken. My drink of choice was the guava margarita, which was pretty good but included "jalapeño-infused tequila". It gave me some serious firebutt the next morning but I guess it's still cheaper than most of the fad cleanses and diets nowadays. My date's ribs were undercooked and appeared and tasted as though they had been reheated from the freezer. For 30+ bucks, that's unacceptable. Lastly, I have to add in a bathroom review. If I'm paying close to $50 for a meal, that bathroom better sparkle so hard that I walk out cleaner than I walked in. Yet, it was absolutely filthy. We were in Santa Barbara for the weekend and I was impressed with the 4.5 stars. We made reservations for brunch and headed over. Parked a couple blocks down in a little parking garage which is free for the first 75 minutes. We walked in and were seated right away. + Egg white omelette ($13) - market veggies, quinoa, avocado, fruit. I'm not eating meat right now so my options were very limited to this brunch item other than sweets. Good, but wayyyyy too much egg and not enough vegetable in my opinion. + Being green juice ($8) - cucumber, celery, spinach, kale, lemon. Loved it! Revitalizing and fresh. Kind of pricey but I'm happy they offered it. I needed that (and a cocktail) to cure my little hangover. + Seared ahi tuna ($18) - heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, quinoa, shoyu vinaigrette, croutons. Lacked flavor. The bites were repetitive and basic. + Roasted pork belly and egg ($16) - poached eggs, smashed avocado, toasted bread chipotle hollandaise and home fries. A pork belly eggs benedict. Beautiful presentation and the pork belly was prepared beautifully. Very rich in flavor according to my friend. + Short rib and sweet potato hash ($16) - sunny eggs, fresh horseradish, chimichurri. Dish looked amazing... and my friend said it was so flavorful. If I was eating meat right now it would have probably been between the roasted pork belly and egg and this dish. + Mule - delicious brunch cocktail. First mule I've ever had not in a copper cup... they mentioned that it was for a new health code? Lol. + mimosas - $10 for the first one and $1 for each additional one after. Pretty sweet deal. They offer orange, peach, and grapefruit. + bloody mary bar! - option of having the bartender create your bloody mary or go to their bar and create your own! I thought this was pretty cool. Strolling around State Street in Santa Barbara a bit of hunger set in. Looking for some semi light fare before a concert I pulled out my trusty Yelp app and found the perfect match to our needs; Finch & Fork. Just off State Street is a very nice hotel and adjoining that hotel is Finch & Fork. We were lucky enough to step in during happy hour. Yea for us! Based on the Yelp pics we obviously went with the mac & cheese. Although a little greasy, the mac and cheese is a good selection to help soak up any beer or wine you may be consuming. We also enjoyed some excellent Brussels sprouts but the fried chicken sliders were a bit dried out. Service was great and the atmosphere is warm and relaxing. With the hotel check-in desk just a glance away there is plenty of people watching to be had. Overall Finch & Fork is a great, kinda hidden, gem just off the bustle of State Street. This is my first (and only) 5 star review and this place definitely deserves it for ambiance, friendliness, and quality of food. Prompted by other positive yelp reviews, we took the kids here Saturday morning before Mother's Day. The kids rode their little bikes and scooters to the restaurant and it was not busy at that hour. Despite it's location in a posh hotel, the hostess had no problem with us leaving the kids transportation behind the check in stand, which we really appreciated. When we walked in, I was struck by the rustic elegance and comfort of the dining room. It did not seem like a good place to bring a hungry 5 and 3 year old but our server was incredibly nice, brought crayons and paper for coloring. Her friendliness quickly calmed our hesitations. Food was phenomenal. Daughter had pancakes - best pancakes I've ever had. They were perfectly fluffy with just a hint of citrus to make them memorable. Bowl of fruit for my son was big and full of sweet, plump berries, great source of fiber for balancing out the amazing short rib sweet potato hash I ordered but promptly surrendered to my carnivorous 3 yr old. The short rib was tender, tasty, and topped with a perfectly cooked sunny side up egg and garnished with some greenery that again added just the right amount of acidity to the dish to make it memorable. My wife wanted something sweet like French toast but being a wonderful wife saw that I was struggling with choosing between short rib hash and crab and asparagus and kindly ordered the other dish I wanted for breakfast. It came out unexpectedly looking like a salad, but each bite had layers of flavors. Asparagus paired perfectly with crab. Just for kicks we also got a slice of French toast, which also was delicious but were so full that I don't think we were able to appreciate it. People talk about Tulepo being best breakfast/brunch in Santa Barbara but I would whole heartedly disagree. This place is, as another reviewer put it, the bees knees. read more

One of my favorite places to have a good meal in the city. Reverently took a friend visiting town for dinner. We ordered the burrata salad to start and it was amazing! Unfortunately, no pictures of that. I ordered the short ribs. Had radish gremolata and a parsnip purée. Very tasty and tender. We ordered the sticky toffee cake for dessert. The cake was a bit dry and would have been tastier served with ice cream vs the marscapone cream. Will definitely return for the burrata salad while it's still on the menu! read more

Came here for breakfast with my husband before our cousin's wedding. I had the egg white omelet which was pretty delicious, and served with a super healthy side of fresh fruit and whole wheat toast. The coffee was incredible and just what we needed, and the restaurant is perfectly located within steps of State Street shopping. read more
