I researched moving companies around East San Diego since we're moving into our new house. I talked to five movers, and honestly, most of them were eager for clients, but the best one for us was Finch Moving. They were easy to talk to, explained everything clearly, and offered decent pricing. Here's how it worked: * Day 1: Packing * Day 2: Moving everything to the new house Their rates: * 3 movers * $170/hour (minimum of 3 hours) * Start time: 9:00 AM or earlier * $4-$5 per large box * $50 per full wardrobe box Of course, we needed lots of clothes boxes, tape, and supplies, but they packed everything so fast! Today, a different moving team came, and they were unbelievably strong and quick. We were so impressed! They carried a full-size recliner and a heavy wooden dining table from our second-floor apartment to our new two-story home. The packers couldn't disassemble the heavy furniture, so they wrapped everything as-is--and the second team handled the move like pros. Some of our furniture is over 10 years old but still fine, just really heavy and solidly made! I originally thought the movers were coming from East San Diego, but it turns out they're based in Miramar, which is the main headquarters of Finch Moving. We're just really thankful for the company, both Team 1 and Team 2. I'm so sorry I forgot their names (I'm really bad with names!), but we truly appreciate their hard work. They made our move so much easier. Team 1 finished so quickly that I didn't even get the chance to offer them snacks and drinks. BEWARE! DAMAGE POLICY IS A JOKE! I had a frustrating experience with Finch Moving & Storage during my friend's move on February 26, 2025, and I'd warn anyone considering them to steer clear. Their damage policy is ridiculous--they offer just 60 cents per pound for anything they break, which doesn't even begin to cover the value of any household item. For instance, they damaged my 6-month old $1,400 monitor, and according to their damage policy, my damage to my monitor would be a measly $17. That's $17 for something worth over a grand, thanks to their pathetic standard coverage. Worse, they expect you to buy extra insurance just to protect average, everyday household items like a monitor, TV, or furniture--stuff any mover should handle with care. The damage to my monitor wasn't obvious at first (it was internal and only showed up when I turned it on a month later), but they didn't care--said I missed their 48-hour reporting window and shrugged it off. As if it would have made any difference had it been reported in the first 48 hours: their "damage policy" would have still reimbursed $17. This policy isn't there to help customers; it's set up to let them dodge responsibility and shows they've got no real incentive to be careful with your stuff. Their website claims "exceptional service" and "client satisfaction," but that's nowhere in sight when you're stuck with a broken item and a reimbursement that's a total joke. Skip Finch unless you're prepared to pay extra just to cover common household goods their basic policy won't touch. It's a terrible deal--don't expect fair compensation for anything they damage. If I could give zero stars I would. From beginning to end it was the worst move experience I have ever had and the customer service following was abysmal. They failed to resolve the issues or respond to outreach for days or weeks at a time. Here's the cliff notes: -I hired 3 movers and they showed up late and with only 2. They had no clue where the 3rd was and no one from the office communicated letting me know there wouldn't be a 3rd until I called multiple times for clarity. - The truck battery died and they were unable to get it started for over an hour. I was told I wouldn't be charged for that hour but indeed was charged for it. They refused to rectify it or reimburse me. -They broke a desk. When I told them to not bother trying fix it because it would take more time and cost me a lot more money. They didn't listen and spent at least 45 minutes trying to fix it. It was not fix-able. They never reimbursed me for the desk. -They "lost" my tv and my headboard. How do you "lose" those big items? They then went back to my old building and claimed they "found them" left in the elevator. The elevator had been unlocked hours prior by maintenance staff who confirmed- no headboard or TV was left in the elevator. Be very careful using the Finch movers. The team arrived in good spirits to help us with a local move. They were telling jokes and scoping out the project with confidence. As things got going, I noticed them throwing our boxes around and not paying attention to any of our labels indicating fragile contents. They moved furniture with no attention to smashing into walls, damaging both the house and our furniture. Upon packing up the truck and driving to our new home, the real damage started to take place. As they unloaded the truck, they threw our boxes and furniture around paying no care to damaging items. I attempted to ask them to be careful and when I was present, they handled those items carefully, but as soon as I was out of sight with one of the team members, the others resumed treating our belongings like garbage. They dinged up the walls in our home and damaged several pieces of furniture. At the end of the project, I showed them all of the damage and they told me to take pictures and file a claim. I have done this and two months later the Finch team continues to ignore emails or tell me they are working on filing a claim. I recommend you find another moving team and save yourself the hassle. Truck arrived a slightly later than projected, but overall everything went smoothly. 26' truck came equipped with a lift (as opposed to a ramp), which made their job easier. Attentive and followed directions (greatly appreciated). Driver was very successful backing large truck down narrow, walled driveway and did not incur any damage. Update: They said they were taking legal action towards racial discrimination. Which is a far throw. Me and the other two workers are all people of color. The other two workers also keep in contact about the situation with me and their boss. They're both witnesses to the incident, and have call/text history with their boss. Didn't mention anything about his race and I treated him kindly even when I found out what he did. This just goes to show how the company treats its customers. Let me start off by saying Juan and Jose are amazing! Such diligent workers and really made so much effort to pack everything with care and in a reasonable time. They're the only reason why this company gets any star at all. This worker named Derrick, on the other hand, decided to steal my husband's credit card and use it to spend $632 worth of nike's. Luckily, my husband gets alerts from that card and was able to catch it quickly. Derrick was quick to wrap up the table where the credit card was on. Then he disappeared for 20+ minutes in the morning. I asked them if they have seen it, and Derrick acted innocent. Juan and Jose on the other hand were concerned and contacted their boss about the incident. Derrick was wearing nikes and neither of the other two were. It was pretty obvious who the culprit was. I've attached a video of him so please be wary. The other reason why this company gets a bad rep, is Anton who I called to try and report the incident. I called the number on their website and he brushed off what I told him. He said "go talk to the police" and when I tried to ask for a manager or anything he said they don't have the power to do that. He probably thought I had no evidence. I have pictures, time stamps, screenshots, and 2 witnesses at that! He nonchalantly said "well if anything he'll just get fired" and I said exactly, why would they want a worker like that? He brushed me off saying I couldn't talk to anyone and just to email their company email. I wanted to speak to Derrick's boss, but of course Anton wouldn't let me. I have yet to hear from their boss and we haven't had any reparations. I'm worried that there may be other things missing because of Derrick. Overall, extremely disappointed and absolutely would NOT recommend. Price is a little cheaper than other places, but there is a reason! Our house move was on 11/27/24 in Carlsbad. Concerns: - came 30 minutes outside of the timeframe we were told (lower concern, but was not communicated with us so we were just waiting around expecting them to show up) - came without a screwdriver. I had to drive to our new place to grab our screwdriver and come back for the movers to use, which added time to our move that we paid for (we paid by the hour) as well as effort and gas for me to do so - they manually unscrewed the bed with a screwdriver rather than using a drill. Concern for purposely dragging out the time (took them 45 minutes before I ended up using my personal drill to finish the second half of the bed in under 1 minute). They had a drill, but chose not to use it - we specifically asked them not to wrap certain pieces of furniture, and they did it anyways. again, a lot of extra time - at the end of the night, we expressed concerns about the lack of preparedness of the crew and having to pay for it and they were extremely rude and unprofessional to my husband. We tried to call the company at the time and we weren't able to get through, so we paid them what they asked with plans to resolve it later with management. - they told us the truck was empty and after they left, we noticed half of the dresser drawers were missing. We tried calling them multiple times, and eventually were told that they could drop them off in a week (no sooner), or we could drive down to downtown san diego (45 minutes away) to pick them up ourselves. We ended up driving down to pick them up for the incomplete job that they had already been paid for, as we needed our dresser drawers to finish the move. When I called the company, I asked to speak to the manager to express my concerns and was told that they have an email, not a phone number, and "that's how businesses work these days". I emailed the company to express my concerns in a calm and unaggressive way to ask for some kind of compensation for the poor service received, I was initially ignored. When I informed them that if I didn't hear back I would be going to the BBB, they gave a short rude response and asked me to "stop harassing them", and that there would be no compensation. Overall, so unprofessional, and NOT worth the money. We moved from a 2 bedroom townhouse to a new townhouse one mile away, and had only the furniture to move (we moved everything else ourselves), my husband and friend helped carry all the furniture to speed along the process, and they still took 5.5 hours. But honestly, mostly disappointed with the complete lack of professionalism of this company. It was the worst move in the history of moving - and I have moved countries multiple times. I'd like to receive some monetary compensation for the following: - The entirety of the move took almost 9 hours. I am a single woman and do not have a massive amount of items. I was under the impression that the move would not take this much time, and the negative feelings were exacerbated by the fact that my two workers took a lunch break and did not tell me until I asked where they were and why they weren't still working. - - - - - After lunch they called me to tell me that their truck stopped working, and they don't have an ETA on when we could get going again. I was waiting at my new apartment for 45 minutes and called, at only which point they let me know that they had arrived and needed the door opened - the crew was poor at communicating. - I very clearly marked on my boxes where they should go - checkboxes for the room (bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, etc), as well as what items are inside. Over and over I was asked where each item should go even though they are clearly marked. This also took up a lot of time. - The efficiency of the move-in was not good. The movers dropped off all of my large furniture into my living room first and then got my rug, which should go under all of the items - I let them know that the rug should go in first but this was not considered. - One of my boxes came with what I can only imagine to be pizza stains? I believe the movers may have been eating on top of my possessions. - They left two items outside of my door, unattended, as well as various moving blankets by my unit from my first apartment. I took a photo of this and sent it to Christian's text, who picked these items up and said that he forgot. When we were done with my move, Christian called to let me know that he had forgotten to get these items in my new unit, and I would have to now pick them up and move them myself. - My furniture is damaged as well as my new unit. I have a standing desk that is wide, and does not fit through a typical doorway - but because it's a mechanical unit, you can lower the size to make it fit sideways. Instead of doing this, they tried to jam it through the doorway which caused the door frame and door itself to become damaged. My brand new standing desk also has white paint scrapes along the edge. - I have four dining chairs and two of them are chipped/missing paint - My mirror is cracked in the corner - My console bottom shelf is now peeling and damaged - I am completely missing a piece of furniture - a kitchen rack that is worth about $200. All other items seem to be here in my unit. Used them for a move from Carmel Valley to Hillcrest. The pre-move visit for a quote was great and Anton gave us great service. We ordered packaging and move. The packaging service was not great. Extremely slow, left a lot of things not packaged and the packed material had very uneven quality. In some places excessive use of packaging material and in other places no material at all. Not great use of your money. On move day they showed hp with three trucks. The speed of loading/unloading is not fast but they do a good job. This is not the cheapest service but for the actual move, they do a good job. We did lose a lamp or two, and they never got back tous. We received a quote with a guaranteed max. The final price came in $50 short of the max. Go elsewhere for packaging assistance. read more

They were also able to accommodate me on short notice (3 days before AND on a Saturday) Movers arrived right at 8 and loaded everything from a 1 bedroom on the second story with stairs only by 9:40, finished driving to the new place and unloading by 10:50. Very professional, did provide plastic, tape, blankets and wardrobe boxes. Nothing broke during the move! It is supposed to be "women owned & operated" but never dealt with a women the entire time up until we had to make a claim and deal with the very unprofessional men on the phone. They took far too long, had a different crew show up mid move and switched three different guys (during COVID) they dropped a box thankfully it only had box and a frame. Most unprofessional moving experience I have ever encountered. TL;DR: This was the worst experience I've ever had with ANY company, from the workers themselves, all the way up through the owner of the company. The owner is corrupt, the workers were drunk. Do not use this company! I paid to have 3 movers help move my 2 BR home across town. I believe it was $160/hr I paid. List of things that were unacceptable: 1. Movers literally drank and got high on the job. 2. The 'head' mover smoked weed from his vaporizer all day, and spent at least 30-60 minutes chatting with my neighbors to market his landscaping business. I had to remind him several times to stay on task. Oh he also spent at least an hour on the toilet weirdly enough? 3. The movers took 2 lunches, which is fine, but each time they came back they seemed more impaired. They were drinking on these breaks. 4. This impairment, lead them to not only move extremely slowly, but also damage not only the furniture they were moving, but also damage the NEW HOUSE I was moving into -- chipped the tile floor, and somehow chipped the laminate wood flooring when banging their way up the stairs with a dolly instead of just having 2 people move it. 5. They hit my wife's car with the moving truck (no serious damage) - I gave them benefit of the doubt because its hard to move those big trucks, but after I realized they were drinking on the job, it makes more sense why they couldn't drive the truck. 6. I could go on and on, but the most damning part of this entire experience was the manager and owners's response to my complaints: at the end of the day when I was paying for the service, I requested to speak to a manager, which I did, and then escalated to the owner of the company - I explained these complaints and He tried to say I needed to take pity on the guys and just sign the contract so they could go home and that we could settle any disputes via email at a later date. He didn't offer to discount the service, and he tried to emotionally manipulate me into signing off on the horrible service I received. I didn't feel like I had a lot of options, so I ended up signing the contract and then sending Finch Movers a Long email about my complaints - I received no response. I then disputed the transaction with my Bank, but now I'm hearing that the dispute might not be approved because he is fighting me on that as well. If he would have just responded to my email we could have settled this amicably with a reasonable discount and assurances that future workers won't be drunk on the job. In summary this was the worst experience I've ever had with ANY company, from the workers themselves, all the way up through the owner of the company. Over 30 years since our last move left my wife and I nervous about making a move. We did lots of research and after having unsuccessful conversations with various "hire a helper" outfits, we decided it wasn't much more to go with a full service licensed moving outfit and were relieved to have found Finch. They were very professional from the get go, didn't try to add any extra time to my estimate and only required a small deposit to reserve our date. Well, yesterday was the day and we are delighted with the tremendous service we received. The two guys assigned to our move, Pedro and Thiboult (sp?) were super respectful, trustworthy, took lots of care to wrap our fine furnishings, and while not huge brawny guys, could handle all of our big pieces with remarkable ease and care. We had some concerns about the fragile nature of a couple of older pieces of furniture that were delicate family heirlooms and they handled them with great expertise. I was impressed with the modern truck they brought. Full of every type of packing supplies and dollys imaginable. They don't charge for their many blankets, tape, and plastic film needed to protect the load. They were careful not to actually apply any tape to our furnishings themselves. We did not have a need for boxes, but they had come prepared if we needed them. At the end of the day, I couldn't help but let them know that I'd trust them to handle my own mother's move - they were THAT trustworthy and conscientious! I contacted Finch for a simple quote. The owner, Olga, was the one responding. She gave me an hourly rate, so logically I'll want a total cost quote: Xhrs + driving + taxes, fuel = ? She responds to me basically "figure it out". Her exact words were "We only provide hourly rate." This was supposed to be a free quote from this moving company. 12 other moving companies gave me a total cost. So I know how much to pay, no surprises, and I can continue to compare pricing. The reasons for the one star? If the owner of a company isn't willing to do the work of one of their workers, no matter how small or menial, they don't deserve to have a business. A CEO treats everyone with white glove service and respect. The owners tone to a potential customer is off putting so I know how one treats the employees they're "forced" to pay. I used Finch moving for my move in March - they did a wonderful job and the movers were experienced and took care of my furnishings. I could not say enough good things about them and recommended them to 3 people. I hired them again on 4/15 to move my work storage to my house. They were in the process of unloading when the hydraulic lift on the truck broke causing them to have to unload without the lift. This took longer and the guys were tired. Worst part is the truck lift leaked hydraulic fluid all over my BRAND NEW $9000 driveway and the guys said it has happened before and suggested we put baking soda on it to try to absorb the oil in addition to a using a whole container of some orange oil cleaner. They assured me that they had someone coming out to power wash it (I assumed that afternoon since it was still early in the day). I expressed my concern about leaving it too long before cleaning it as it will likely soak in. I went ahead and paid in full and even tipped them - in hindsight I should have held off payment. I called Anton at Finch to find out what time and he said he was unable to get anyone out that day and it would have to wait until Sunday morning (Easter) - they did not show up and when I called he said he would look into - long story short he has put me off and after 10 days we still do not have it cleaned. I had even given him a name of a guy who could come that day or the next for $200 and they ignored it. I don't like to post bad reviews especially since their service was good - there is something wrong with the management and how they take care of problems. Criminals. If I could give them zero stars I would. The day of the move teenagers showed up. They did not speak English. They began packing my goods without wrapping anything to prevent breakage and did not even close the boxes just wrapped plastic wrap around the top of an open box. I asked them to stop. I called the company to figure out a solution to unsatisfactory beginning. After being repeatedly hung up on, I asked the children to leave. I called to confirm my deposit would be refunded etc... the gentleman that finally answered the phone said I would not be charged. When I had been charged I called and then was told I am confused must have the wrong company and he told me I should call the police. Not only did they steal my 1000.00 deposit they charged my credit card a month's storage fee. Currently in dispute. I now have to get a lawyer. Do NOT use this company! read more
