Highly recommended. Professional, timely, good quality, and competitive pricing…read more We had a basement water leak after heavy rains. We scanned through Yelp and took a chance with J&R NW Construction based on recent positive reviews. Julio immediately picked up our phone call and was at our place in 30 minutes. After an assessment, he followed up with a contract and got his team scheduled for later in the day. The crew did a quality job. J&R is going into our contacts list for future home improvement/repair projects!

We had three different major projects to get bids upon and Julio was one of the several construction company representatives who responded to our calls. He was on time for our in home meeting and impressed us with his attention to detail while considering the work and materials needed to complete the jobs. Julio was able to give us a comprehensive bid on each of the projects (flooring, siding and construction of an external awning/sun shade) detailing a prospective time schedule if we chose to hire his company. He was also able to offer us a discount if we decided to hire his company to complete all of the projects. This made good sense to us as it would save confusion in resources like dumpsters, vehicle parking, porta potties, ETC if we had different entities working at the same time. The work contract was easy to understand and there were no surprises throughout the whole process. Julio also provided all the necessary legal documents to show he had proper licensing and insurance for his company and workers. All the individual workers who Julio sent to our home were professional, courteous and efficient. The building supplies were ordered properly and we were promptly notified about the impending deliveries The demolition and removal of our old poor quality siding was done quickly and skillfully and at the end of every workday, the workers cleaned every bit of scrap and all the sharp nails and pieces of wood that would have been a hazard to us and out pets. The siding crew that wrapped our stripped house was great and the crew that cut and attached the Hardie board siding was amazing in their skillful technique. The painters did an excellent job and got everything right, down to the smallest of details. The awning project was initially not what my wife expected but Julio quickly understood and directed his crew to make the necessary improvements getting it just right. The same work ethic and and attention to detail was applied to the removal of our old, worn-out and stinky downstairs carpeting. After stripping the floors bare, the cement was leveled and prepped for the tile we had chosen from the business that Julio had recommended. The relatively big area was tiled, sealed and new baseboard was attached. During the entire renovation project, Julio was in constant contact with us and he was onsite at least once if not several times a day while the workers were present. The payment plan was clear and simple with no unexpected surprises at the end. I would highly recommend J&R NW Construction for anyone considering a construction or renovation project in the Portland area and would definitely hire the company again for any future projects.

We definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!! **You can count on constant price changes, delays (not Covid…read morerelated) and no accountability** Kevin, the owner, called us about a week before we were to go on vacation and said he did not have time for our project and gave me names of subs who could help us. He was to start work on our kitchen remodel in the next few weeks. Since we longer longer had a contractor and all the subs he gave us to call were either booked way out or not even in our area, smh, we had to become our own general contractor. Our much needed vacation got canceled and we began demo ourselves. It should have been a red flag that the first estimate he gave us included only $8000 for kitchen cabinets. We asked about that and he said he had a good contact for cabinets. He sent us to his contact and we were quoted $38,000!!! We ended up going to Lowes for cabinets, still paying $26,000. We were given price quotes on things... I would ask for the items to be ordered and was told we have to wait... there were procedures they have to follow for billing. I asked multiple times to have the quartz I wanted ordered. I was given a price that seemed reasonable. Then, when it finally came time for them to order the price went up again substantially within a 24 hour period. I was told it was because of current times with Covid and prices are changing every day. Again I had asked multiple times to order it earlier, smh! So because the price of the quartz, I had my heart set on, had increased by almost $30/sq ft we had to settle for a less expensive granite. We went back to the stone yard and picked out the granite. We were told from the owner of the stone yard that they had not had any recent price increases nor have they increased their prices recently. But the cost of their stone had gone up sometime in the past months. Anyway, we agreed to the price we got from Core. They sent us an invoice. There was an additional $1,500 charge added on!!!!! We were livid!!! We were told they forgot to add profit and overhead! I was told this was for the time it took to call the stone yard and coordinate the project. I had asked the owner of the stone yard if they had heard from Core. They said they heard from them once. I had done all the work with regard to stone selection, getting the drawings to them and staying in constant contact with them regarding timeline updates. So why did we have to pay the $1,500???? We were at the point that the stone had to be ordered to stay on schedule so we had to pay it. It was after this that Kevin dumped us!
