First off, they've completely I renovated...double the size, but still charmingly cozy. Second, the salads were remarkable. I had the coconut chicken salad with the lime and mustard dressing. It was the best salad I've had in a long time. Grilled salmon also won over the table...delicious and cooked just right. The dessert cake was the best though...graham crust, chocolate ganache, layer of mousse, topped with hazelnut whipped cream. We sat in silence for several minutes simply salvo ring the flavor. Overpriced for what it is. Good Pork Tenderloin sandwich and Reuben, horrible fries. Limp, greasy, and overdone. It's trying to be upscale, but failing. They could use more than one server on a Saturday night too. They took our menus before we ordered and never gave us the specials or anything else either. Extremely disappointed! We love to explore new opportunities to dine out. Finicky Franks was featured on local Omaha new station so we decided to visit that evening. We tried the crab cakes - always on the look out for that crab delicacy done so well in, say Baltimore or DC. Very disappointing - way too much stuffing/breading, that made one think, "where is the meat - crab?". A bit over fried and heavy on the salt and spices, which overpowered the little taste of crab there could have been. For the main course we split the pasta Alfredo with salmon. Again, big disappointment. Salmon undercooked, skin had separated from fish and lay clumpy on the noddles - no go on food presentation. Alfredo sauce - thick cream, some shredded cheese and nothing else, extremely salty, overwhelming the taste senses; the pasta, too thick and doughy. Sadly, no visit from the manger to discuss the undercooked fish. the waitress did discount one of our salads - big whoop! On the plus side, friendly staff, clean, and the salad was fresh. read more

It is a little overpriced for what you get, but still worth going to every once in a while. Check out Cunninghams or Crescent moon! The meat was so shiny it automatically turned me off. I don't even know how to describe the taste other than awful. I was going to try and gut it for my mom because it was her birthday, but when there was a small black hair under the sandwich I had to give it to the waitress. The cook or chef whomever came out to tell me it "didn't match anyone's hair back there." Well it didn't match mine either. They then charged me $14 for the worst Rueben I'd ever had. What a darling place with such a great atmosphere. It has been a long time since we've been there so we decided to try it again. unfortunately we were very disappointed. the food took nearly 50 minutes to get to us, with no apologies for the tardiness. I ordered the Ruben, gluten free style, the cheese was not melted just laid on top and the corned beef was very tough and very fatty. my husband had the stir fry which had very little flavor to it. I went with 3 other people to Finicky Franks. We started with an order of onion rings, that were delicious. The other three ordered the Walleye special, which, they said was good. I had the Reuben sandwich which was quite good. I ordered for $2.95 extra, the cup of soup. It was squash and cilantro. At best, it was average and not worth paying an extra $2.95 On the menu soup was $6 for a cup, $8 for a bowl. That is too high. My Reuben was $14 which is too expensive for a Reuben.The real shocker was that I had a gin martini, and another person a bourbon and seven.When the bill came my martini was$10, and the bourbon seven was $9, They were just well gin and bourbon. I have been to the fanciest restaurants, and never paid that much for a drink!! All in all, for a small hole in the wall restaurant, connected to a gas station, the food was good but the prices are way,way too high. read more

So happy to have a decent restaurant move into Ponca Hills, North Omaha. I've eaten at Franks many times now, including lots of take out. The chef's specialty is soup and I've had many delicious ones, especially the chili. I have high marks for most everything on the menu, unless it's fried. For some reason the smell of grease has been overwhelming inside the restaurant at times, your clothes can smell when you leave, and you might need to air out your house if you get take out. No idea why it's so bad..maybe because it's such a small place. But it's a fun, quirky, place off the beaten path and that's usually what I like best. read more

Went for my birthday and won't be going again. I have a difficult allergy-onions. It's not fun for me and I know it is challenging to cooks/chefs. I asked about the crab cakes and was told no onions. I received the crab cake sandwich and found an onion in the sandwich. The owner came over and told me it was not possible that there was an onion due to the fact that she made the crab cakes herself in a special part of the kitchen. She told me that maybe it was crab or something. I have not seen translucent crab before. She told me I could eat it as there were no onions and walked away. The server (who was nice) asked if I wanted to eat the sandwich. I said no, I didn't want to risk eating it. She took it away. I had only eaten one bite when I had found the onion. I didn't find them finicky about the food at all. I had the chicken fried steak special, and it had blood oozing out, but was tough as shoe leather. I could only manage a few bites. The onion rings we had as an appetizer we're very good though, but our waitress didn't want us to keep our menus while we were still deciding on our entrees in case we got something on them. She rushed us the entire dinner and we had 7:45pm reservations. We had 4 house margaritas which were $10 each with so much ice that there were only a few sips in each. Great spot I didn't know existed until today, all I had were the crab cakes, which were the best I've had in Omaha. It was slow which in some restaurants can mean great service or complacent service and our server was great. Can't wait to come back for dinner service on the patio. read more

I have always enjoyed my visits to Finicky Franks until last week. I ordered the crab cake sandwich and it was served to me with a long black hair cooked into it. When I pointed this out to the waitress she immediately took it away. She came back minutes later firmly explaining that had "NEVER, EVER" happened there before. She asked if I would like something different or the same thing. I ordered the crab cake sandwich again. My friend that I was eating with had received her food, sans hair, and was eating. When the new sandwich was brought out it was missing the fries on the side. They "were not ready yet" and were later brought out in a basket. Too bad they still did not get them cooked before bringing them out. They were limp and cold. I was not offered any compensation for the mishap. No free dessert, no free coffee, not even a percentage off my bill. Obviously this had NEVER, EVER happened here because they did not know how to treat their customer. What once was a great local restaurant has done an about face after recent remodel. Food is good if you ever get it. Prices are very high. We waited an hour after ordering and only after complaining twice and getting up to walk out were we finally served. Cook was sarcastic about our complaint about the wait time and being told it was on its way out, only to wait another 20 minutes. Servers said thats what they were told to say. My husband and I had dinner there on Wednesday night. We've heard about how fantastic the food was there, so we decided to check it out for ourselves. Upon arrival to the strip mall and entering the restaurant, we ran into 4-6 employees standing around talking at the corner of the bar. The atmosphere had an eclectic feel, dark, and cozy, however there was only one other occupied table so we were seated immediately. Looking over the menu, the first thing I noticed were the prices, French fries $9.00, Ruben sandwich $14.00 and a Hamburger was $13.00 without any cheese, I had to add a buck for each additional topping they offered. The waitress was friendly and came over to greet us right away. We decided to order a bottle of wine because the only wine that they offered by the glass were all $10.00. All but one bottle of Chardonnay was $36.00 the other bottle was $58.00. My husband ordered the walleye special, which was about 4-6oz fillet deep fried served with roasted potatoes and coleslaw, and a cup of mushroom soup, I opted for the classic pizza with a dinner salad. I wanted to get the biggest bang for my buck. We thought the food was OK, however for the prices we paid it should have been excellent, because when we received the check.... it was $104.00. Upon further inspection the cup of soup $7.00, Dinner salad $7.00 my husband and I frequent a lot of bistros in Omaha, M's Pub, Mark's, Dario's, just to name a few and we have never paid $7.00 for a cup of soup. Just for the record, this is not what I'd consider a bistro, high end cafe maybe, but not a bistro, and there's no chef, just a little gal that cooks a little better than most. So over all the food is unacceptable for the money and nothing to write home about. read more
