This place really needs to step up their game if they're going to last in Oro Valley. The quality of the fish and meats needs to improve drastically. Came here again on a Wednesday for happy hour/to try a half-off tropical drink. The fish tacos were again just okay. The fish was pretty heavily fried and greasy with not a lot of flavor. The Point Break is like a shandy, and a nice idea, but the beer was warm so it wasn't very refreshing. The downgrade is service. It wasn't super packed around 5:30, nor did they appear short-staffed, but our server took way too long to take our order. She then kept circling back looking at our empty glasses, and before I could order another drink she'd walk away and then eventually just brought the check without asking if we wanted another round/anything else. Shame on me for not snapping my fingers or demanding service like a king, I guess. Not really my kind of place to begin with: older male clientele and average food, but it just happens to be reasonably close to my neck of the woods. My first time here. Cool beach like decorations. Lots of space. Huge game on TV so it was super noisy. I want to go back for Happy Hour. The chicken wings with honey, coconut and pineapple were delicious. My hamburger was huge, with excellent meat and well cooked on a cibatta bun that was grilled. Darn. I so wanted to love this place. It looked like a great place to hang out on a hot day, eat tacos and drink beer. I went on a Tues. Website said order online and get all their tacos for $2.80. Deal did not carry over if you ordered a drink and a to-go order. Waitress let me know ahead of time which I appreciated and I still ordered them. A good taco is worth it. These weren't. I ordered the skinny martini. Lots of sour no kick. I ordered the special which was a red snapper taco, I also got the shrimp and the carne asada. To round it out I got the fried calamari. My hotel was 7 mins away. By the time I got there the calamari was cold. The sauce had a huge kick but the calamari had no flavor. The red snapper taco lacked seasoning also. The carne asada taco was decent. I wish it had not also been cold. The corn tortilla did not taste cooked at all. Just a cold wrap that probably cooled down the meat. The flavor of the meat though was good. The shrimp taco was fantastic. Also cold but spicy, great slaw and the sauce was fantastic. Shrimp were good sized and very well seasoned. I wish the whole meal had been on the level of the shrimp tacos. Still would be a great place to hang out. Just stick to beer and shrimp tacos. Life could be worse. Lol read more

I've been here twice in a month now because this place is awesome ! I haven't seen any post about their Sonoran hotdog but it is the best !!! It's a little different than a traditional one but it's the best hotdog I have ever had. Give it a try people I think it's one of their best things on the menu. Unless you are a regular, don't sit at the bar. We've been there several times and it seems like more often than not, the female bartenders are not very attentive. I am not a demanding person, I order food with my drinks and I tip well. So, I'm not sure what someone needs to do to get good service at the bar. OK, it pains me to do this. I liked this place a lot but, the last visit was egregious. First (and I realize this has little to do with service/food, etc.), we were sitting on the patio and the room was really hot but, to add to this I was in, literally, the only seat where the setting sun was hitting me right in my retina. Drinks come, daughter's soda, flat, syrupy....bad. My beer flat and manky. We get replacements, I order a bottle so......OK. Foods comes, I ordered a grilled Cod sandwich for around $10. There is literally less than a bite of fish on an entire half of my sandwich. At this point I was so freaking pissed off by the whole clown car of an experience that I got up and left. My wife and kids and I had met at the restaurant. I left because I wanted to shove the fucking sandwich down the manager's throat. Here, you eat this dog shit. Guess it's better that I Ieft. You're busy, so fucking what? You're busy so all your standards go out the window. We eat here around once a month and it's around the corner from where we live. Kudos to the GREAT server who handled everything like a true pro. AND, of course, kudos to my wife for having my back and putting up with me. Today we visited for the second time and brought my parents along. The atmosphere is great. It's like Key West in Tucson. Last time, my son and I shared chicken strips. The breading was different but they were quite good. Today, I had the El Cubano Torta. The bread wasn't like other tortas but the sandwich and seasoned fries were good. My dad had the flounder dog, my mom had the Gulfstream, and my son had a cheeseburger. Everyone enjoyed their food and we were served quickly. We also enjoyed drinks, Dos Equis, a Hemingway Margarita and a Kiki Krush. My mom and I thought the drinks were quite strong. Mine was so strong I couldn't taste the fruit flavors in the drink. The Cubano was definitely the best thing we ordered. Daughter and I had the grilled cod pangas (lettuce boats). These were very good, but if you're really hungry or just a big eater, you might want to add an appetizer. Granddaughter ordered the grilled cheese and though it looked good it was awful. It was made with velveta or American cheese or some artificial cheese that tasted like plastic. I complained and asked if they had cheddar, and after some hesitation, the waitress offered to have it remade with cheddar. Then, it was very good. I now know you have to ask! read more

Used to love coming here for happy hour. Left today knowing we won't be back. It wasn't busy and it was obvious that our business didn't really matter. Ordered off the happy hour menu and were charge more because, according to the server, they had new management so the prices for happy hour beers were different now. They even charged us more than the regular menu price showed. I guess you can't rely on the menu they give you to be correct. They gave us a $2.00 discount (which didn't even cover the cost difference) and told us to remember for next time that the prices were changed. All I can say is WOW. First time here, and we really tested them last night. Brought in 12 kids under 9 and 12 adults. Most restaurants would not be able to handle a group like ours. The service was exceptional considering the madness we dropped on them. Our drunk orders came out quickly and correct. The food was very good, all in our group was impressed. I think all the cooks/chef, who were doing such a great job a year ago, left with the manager?! This morning I ordered a Sonoran Benedict that used to be beautifully plated AND tasted great and I got a plate with a quartered dry roll with a tomato slice on each and a small drizzle of sauce and chorizo over each. A small handful of "Sonoran greens" was hiding under the two eggs. Ugly and tasteless. This is the third strike in the last few months...we won't be back. read more

Fun atmosphere and we like the location in town. It is easy to get to. Fini's is Child friendly for sure, the patio is better for kids. Inside it's a local hangout with lots of regulars. I was told the burgers were amazing and we had to come and try them. Maybe because the hype was so BIG...but the burgers fell a little short. Service is horrible you can sit at the bar and unless you ask the bartender to serve you they will just continue to look at you. This is my 3rd time trying Fini's and the first two times were exactly the same, but I waited to leave a review because we all have "bad days" but now that this is the third time and same crap service. Food is okay nothing horrible but be prepared to wait and hope they give you the right order. Came here for brunch and had one of the breakfast burritos. Ended up pleasantly surprised. Not your traditional Mexican breakfast burrito, but then again it isn't a Mexican restaurant! My husband had the chiliquilles which were interesting. They're made on like French fries instead of chips. Tasty, but different. This is a neighborhood place, and we've been going there for years. But now they have changed the menu and the food is no longer what it used to be. The enchilada vegan soup was very spicy, so I didn't eat it. I ordered a carnitas taco and it was cold. We ordered an order of calamari for the table and we sent it back. It was microwaved and served in a plate of spicy sauce with fried jalapeños. The nachos for the table were decent but cold. They don't carry Rombauer anymore and didn't replace it with anything comparable. The service was good. Its a shame to have to remove Finis from our go to places. It's fun, casual and convenient. I am going to file this whole experience under - not sure what I thought. The ambiance was what I expected. The decor was not. For being open less than a year, things seemed unkempt. Wobbly tables, dirty windows and, when we entered through the back door, things in the hallway on the floor. When you walk into a place, first impressions are very important. They need to clean some things up. OK... Martha Stewart moment over. Let's talk about food and drink. If I was not sure about things, neither were they. The beer I ordered (HopKnot IPA) was listed at two different prices: $6 on the board above the bar and $5.25 on the menu. Happy hour pricing would save me a buck. I figured I would be charged the higher price so I chose something a little less pricey for my second beer, a lowly lager. I was charged $4 for each beer. GRRRR... I ordered the fish tacos ($2.50 each at happy hour), my wife ordered the BLTA flatbread and we ordered a basket of fries to share. They were handcut and the spicy Chubasco mayo was good, but $5 for fries? The flatbread was very rich. The combination of the lime aioli, bacon, avocado and cheese almost ended up being too rich for my wife to eat. I tasted it and my instantly collapsing arteries agreed with her assessment. The fish tacos were good. The fish was crispy and there was a hint of lime in the pico, which is a must. A dash of the Chubasco sauce they placed on the table added even more kick. I hunt for good fish tacos and, in terms of flavor combination, these are some of the better ones I have had. The wings look imaginative with combinations like coconut/pineapple, pineapple/habañero and even a departure-from-the-beach-theme-decidedly-desert-driven prickly pear. Overall, this place has me intrigued enough about the rest of the menu that I will be back. I just hope they can get their hallway and their pricing cleaned up. read more

I wish I was blown away by this little spot but sadly I wasn't. I like the casual beachy decor and they have a great selection of beers on tap. However we went in for happy hour and after a few beers some apps and an order of tacos our tab was close to $100 for two and it just didn't seem worth it. The funny part was when a friend found out where I was he was quick to warn us about how fast the tab can climb here but we were still surprised. The coconut shrimp appetizer is a very good size with piping hot crunchy shrimp served with a tasty spicy sweet dipping sauce. The calamari was ok not great. In a town that has a million and one tacos offered for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, you should take the time to come check out Fini's Landing. They have their own house-made sauce (Chubasco) which is fantastic. My personal favorite is the Habanero version - medium spicy (for me, I have a high spice tolerance) and VERY flavorful. It's fantastic on whatever you happen to put it on. I've tried quite a few of their dishes, and they are consistent and produce great food each time. The La Paz fish taco is something I tend to order almost every time I've been here. Great little fried fish, tasty pico, and some yummy mayo-based sauce on top with a squeeze of lime and delicious with a TON of the Chubasco hot sauce. The San Juanico fish taco is terrific with a pineapple based salsa. I've also tried a grilled fish taco (decent) and their black bean taco with the pineapple salsa (awesome for vegetarians). I've also sampled their wings with the traditional buffalo hot sauce - they were surprisingly great. The skin was crisp and the meat was nice and tender. The buffalo hot sauce was more flavorful than hot but it was a very solid wing. We've also tried their Landing Nachos and the Loaded french fries which are pretty much nachos only on fries. Their guacamole is solid, and the pico has a good balance with the savory and acidity aspect. The servings are large for these two items. My husband has tried a couple of the burgers, which are always cooked to temp correctly and he says they are solid burgers. He's also tried the fish sandwich and really enjoyed that. I've tried, for their lighter fare, a couple of their salads, and they used fresh ingredients. They offer their salads in half and full sizes which is great - I typically am good to go with the half size. One of their best dressings is a house made one - the vinaigrette is flavorful and delicious. Service can be hit or miss - typically it's on the more solid side, but sometimes it can be a little spotty. That tends to be when it is filled to capacity so do take that with a grain of salt. the husband saw that there was a band he had wanted to see playing at fini's landing on a friday night. so off we went. this place gets packed!! i didn't even know it was there on swan and sunrise, and i've driven by there many, many times. we got a seat on their patio (which allows smoking :/) because the weather was super nice after a summer monsoon. our waitress was very busy, but tended to us as soon as she could. the husband ordered a fish taco. it was $4 for one. just one. just one lonely fish taco. i ordered a cheese burger. it came on chibata bread and it tasted really great but it was $9! no sides included. i ordered onion rings, which were also really good but it was $5 for that. i might consider going back, the the prices are pretty steep. at the end of our dinner, the waitress took forever to come back and collect our payment. thought she had forgotten about us. read more

Fini's makes me miss the fact that I moved away from the foothills and out-of-state before it opened. I thought I was taking my mom to an Italian place during a recent visit and was a bit hesitant when I drove up and saw it but we decided to go in anyway and I'm OH so glad I did! There was nothing about this place that I didn't absolutely love. The atmosphere was spot on; beachy casual with some great decor and the menu was filled with all the things I absolutely love! I would love to taste test everything especially based on the other reviews. We happened to be there on a Tuesday so went for the dollar tacos and margaritas. Pretty generic order given the expansive menu but I certainly wasn't disappointed. The tacos were amazing! Street taco more in nature which is what I prefer. I'm really looking forward to a trip back so that I can return to Fini's and get some of the more eclectic, hard-to-get menu items that they offer. Great find!! read more

I find Fini's to be a very unique scene for the North side of town. Alongside the high class and trendy places along sunrise, this surf-style dive offers a different feel. C and I went their on a whim on a weekday and were surprised when we walked in. This beach-bum decor was eclectic and the bar is shaped like a boat. Their menu was uniquely crafted and their beer list was pretty great! C ordered their hot dogs and I got one bean and guac taco (no cheese) taco and one "panga". I am unsure if a panga is something unique to Fini's, but imagine a taco, but instead of a tortilla you have a grilled half-head of romaine. Pretty cool concept! Their food was good and they were open late. Fini's nearly lost a star for poor service on our first visit. The bartender periodically sat at a nearby table and checked her phone and never had menus or anything readily available. We were one of 5 guests in the place and seemed like a pretty big inconvenience. I am happy to report though that we sat at a table 2 Tuesdays later (half priced tacos on Tuesday!) and received amazing service from Stevie! I am glad we got to be served by her before I gave this plave 4 stars. Good save, Fini's! read more

This place is unlike anything else in Tucson I have experienced. It fuses Mexico and Key West in a style uniquely it's own. It is a clean and relaxing environment, friendly and accommodating atmosphere, and caters to a more mature demographic, no matter the age. The music is not too loud, the 6 (soon to be 8) TVs are able to please everyone's sports desires, and the staff is more than willing to tune a TV to a channel that you would like to watch. As another person pointed out, The majestic view of the Catalina's out the "Stern window of the Boat", is incomparable. And, the whole place feels so open as the front wall is 3 roll-up-doors to the outside patio that facilitates a convenient flow of traffic and makes the place feel bigger than it is... not so closed-in and dark like other places tend to be. read more

I don't get it. I felt like I left Fini's with my head cocked to the side like the RCA dog, trying to figure out what everyone thinks is so fantastic about this place. The decor reminds me of a dockside place. It's cute, open air, nautical accents, etc. Our party of 5 was greeted quickly and offered drinks. The menu is a la carte style. Sandwiches, etc don't come with anything on the side. Which might've been okay, but my chicken salad sandwich on ciabatta wasn't all that big and didn't come with so much as a pickle wedge. Nothing else on the plate. And it was fairly small. And it was $7. hrumpf. I ordered the tortilla soup on the side. A cup. A small cup. $4. *double hrumpf* The sandwich was pretty good. Nothing super special. The soup was decent, nothing super special. I walked out of there annoyed at having spent $17 (including tip) for an okay lunch in a strip mall. Meh. Out of fairness, I didn't order food. I sat at the bar and just ordered a drink. The other reviews suggest this place is filthy and caters only to regulars. I didn't think that it was that dirty. The bar area seemed nice given the theme of the place (beach, surf, seafood, etc). Plenty of TVs all over the place. There did seem to be some regulars there - as several middle aged slightly overweight guys (some with golf hats) called out the average-looking young and uninterested bartenders by name. Bud Light in hand, they were enthralled with whatever was happening on the golf channel. You know, the type of guys that have "Romney" and "NOBama" stickers on their cars.. The house beer was good, as it was brewed by Barrio Brewing Company. Other decent stuff on tap. So, plus / minus. read more

I was somehow transported back to Key West, and not just by the Warren Buffet-channeling Foothills silver fox and desperate housewives crowd. The menu is heavy on beach tacos done a dozen ways. The Guaymas, with mango salsa and avocado mayo, sported a decent chunk of seasoned snapper, and the others are just as creative. Get the Cuban black beans, a delicious accompaniment which transported me to Fort Zack in Key West. The staff is young, lively, and attentive, and even with a gaggle of centurions glad-handing in their midst, they made us feel like the only table in the place. I hope this kitchen staff sticks around, and I'd like to hear a calypso band here soon so I can get my margaritaville on along with those summery beach tacos. read more

Margaritaville chill... That's how I think of Fini's. I love the island feel, and I'm surprised they've gotten a bad rap in some reviews. But try and see Fini's for what it is - a fantastic neighborhood bar, not for what it's not - a gourmet restaurant, and you're not going to be disappointed. My opinion is that we are lucky to have Fini's in the (sometimes agonizingly boring) foothills. I've been to Fini's numerous times, and the casual, island atmosphere with huge picture windows framing gorgeous views of the Catalina mountains is enough for me to hang out and have a relaxing time... Some great sunset viewing can be experienced on their patio. For sports fans, they have numerous TV's with all the latest games going. On Friday nights they have a band (classic rock). The band is actually pretty good, and it's always fun (actually I'm admitting- it's even comical) to watch baby boomers dancing- way past their prime, yet oh so into the groove... Yeah, I can dig it, and how truly nice that they can come here and let loose! I've also been to Fini's for happy hour and Taco Tuesday- both of which are great (the fish tacos are awesome) and a very good value. I can't really recommend Fini's for lunch- had a not so great lunch here once (a dry chicken sandwich with nothing on the side). But I'm going to say it again- the food is sort of secondary here. This place has a happy vibe that pervades throughout, and puts me in an instantly good mood once I pull the brass flip flop door handle. Stepping inside- I can almost hear the echo of Jimmy Buffet crooning, "Living on sponge cake, and watching the sun bake." Bottom line- go to Fini's with the knowledge that you may not end up being wowed by the food. If your expectations are a bit lower, it's quite possible you'll end up being pleasantly surprised. Hopefully the main reason you are going to Fini's is to chill out and have a good time. Don't worry.... be HAPPY- that's the essence of Fini's! read more
