I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. All the food had good flavor, I had the fish and chips, both were good, the coleslaw was great. My wife had the Philly cheesesteak, also great flavor. The only thing that wasn't great was the iced tea. If this place could get people in the door I'm sure the reviews would go up. read more

What a fun atmosphere, TVs all round with different Olympic events and other sports playing. Bartender top notch with knowledge of the menu and beverages. There is an out door patio but my allergies were not liking that so we sat inside. Not a huge menu but plenty of choices to choose from. I had the Whiskey burger medium with caramelized onion, tomato, lettuce and a sweet whiskey flair that was delicious and messy! I chose french fries that were hot and crispy. Mom had the 3 chicken tacos with pickled onions, homemade beans, flavorful Spanish rice, fresh guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo. She said they were wonderful. We were in Tucson for Arizona Bowl 2024 and stayed at the DoubleTree. Came down for dinner at Javelina & was greeted by their friendly staff. We made it in time for Happy Hour. My son order the Steak Fettucini Alfredo. It was creamy and delicious. The steak medallions were well seasoned and complemented the pasta well. I ordered the Chicken Nachos. It was a large serving that I shared with our table mates. The guacamole was delicious with it. Our server was super helpful with his recommendations. My son, who has Autism, enjoyed interacting with our server who laughed at my son's jokes while heartedly. read more

It's the perfect location connected to Doubletree. It's very trendy and clean. Unfortunately the QR code in the room does not have the menu on it yet, but with it suddenly thunder and lightening and expected showers we decided it's the best location to eat dinner at. The menu is ever changing we were told bec ownership has changed a few times...with that being said my pics of the menu are valid as of right now ;-) The young lady waiting on us was awesome! She is very friendly, attentive, and good at her job! I wish we would have gotten her name to have her recognized!!! Kudos to her and we left a very good tip :-) Now what you really want to hear about....the food. Yummy. I liked the sound of the strawberry salad, but I liked a couple of other things so I decided I'm having the salad for lunch tomorrow. We decided to share our meals and get the Philly cheese steak sandwich w/mayo and the bread was super fresh and squishy. It was so good that I was thinking I should have gotten one by myself, but than I bit into the whiskey cheeseburger with bacon and cheddar and WOW!!!! I didn't even finish my half of the Philly. Had dinner here over a 3-night stay at Doubletree and can't say enough about the food AND service! We tried a different plate every night and each meal was delicious! Teriyaki burger & Whiskey burger were amazing! Also had the carne asada tacos. The Steak Fettuccine Alfredo was also really so good - the meat was very tender and the sauces really complimented the flavor. The added bonus was the service!! We had 3 different servers and all 3 were friendly and attentive!! Unfortunately I can only remember 2 of their names: Elise & Karen. I also have to add that we tried their Desert Cactus Mules and they were awesome as well. Can't go wrong here and totally recommend! read more

Let's just start by saying the wait staff is very friendly and wants to do a great job. As someone who waited tables for 8 years, they clearly lack leadership, training and support. Our drinks took 20 minutes, the margaritas were terrible. The food is meh-except the guacamole. The nachos clearly died in the window 20 minutes before being brought to the table-I think the chef thought they were an appetizer. Taco John's has better tacos. They need someone to answer phones, take room service/to go orders, bus tables. I know corporate America likes to manage their margins by cutting labor but the service suffers, not because of the people, because there aren't enough of them. They also need sections assigned to them. If you want to grab a drink, go to the bar inside the hotel lobby, they know how to make a margarita-do not go here. I'm only giving this place a high rating of a 2 because we got some great laughs out of our experience and still continue to laugh about this place read more

Stopped in for a quick drink with a friend after an event at the Doubletree. Quick being the key word here. It was anything BUT quick. Our server's attitude was lackluster and gave off the impression of being overworked but the bar was not full. Took a good 10 minutes to get our very simple beverage order. By the time we were about finished with our drinks **and we milked those drinks considerably** our "Javecado" arrived - chips and housemade guacamole. Took another ten minutes for the order of "Scorpion Hot" jumbo wings to arrive - all were ordered at the same time as our drink order. The guacamole was excellent. Full of big, creamy avocado chunks, seasoned perfectly and displayed in a tortilla bowl. Me gusta. As for those scorpion hot wings, I can get more heat out of my cinnamon flavored chap stick. read more

It's hard to ding a hotel bar too much. And that's all this place really is. When I think of hotel bars, I always think of the bars at Holiday Inns, just because I stay in them a lot (you get them cheap on Hotwire). There are always like two beers on tap and a really mediocre bottle selection. The price is just high enough to keep anyone from coming in here specifically to drink, but reasonable enough to make the guests at the hotel say "Screw it, I'll just drink here." The service staff are always in some sort of goofy outfit and always seem to be kind of angry about something, but also totally don't care and will joke around with you, but also just glaze over if you complain about anything. The atmosphere is always absolute shit. Tacky carpet on the floor, a bar and general decor that were kind of cool when they were purchased 15 years ago, and the worst possible music (if not muzak) playing overhead a lot louder than it really needs to be played in any venue. But, yet, in spite of all this, I have a really soft spot for these places. Maybe it's because it brings back memories of other hotel bars I went to while I was traveling in the past. I would sit alone, eating my mediocre food and drinking my expensive beer or soda, and chat with the other people there, generally in the same position as I was: business travelers, a woman stuck overnight because of a flight cancellation, hotel guests that refuse to go out on the town. Something's kind of fun about it to me. It's kind of like being at one of those lonely guy dives but not having to worry about accidentally starting up a conversation with a guy that's out of his mind or will try to mug you as you leave. I don't know that I had ever actually eaten here, but, when I was told that we were going here to meet friends the words "their food sucks" came into my head. And I think that it was only based on what I had heard about the place. I had definitely been to the Doubletree before (never stayed here though), but I couldn't recall actually ever going in here. So, it wasn't too much of a surprise to me when my nachos came out, in all of their weird glory, and my SO began to eat and began to give off those subtle cues that tell you she/he hates their food but doesn't want to say anything. But, hey, this is the quintessential hotel bar. Man, the service sucked. The waitress would just disappear for long periods and come back randomly to interrupt the conversation. Our food took a really long time also. And this is all at a bar that was essentially empty, save for a couple of those aforementioned folks at the bar and 2-3 geriatric couples who were probably just too scared to go anywhere else that late (8pm). No reason for that. The food also, of course, has to come out in room service style trays, which only serves to make me think: "Who rejected this before I got it?" or "How long did this sit under the heat lamp?" or, better yet, "Where's my comically small bottle of Heinz ketchup and salt packet wrapped in plastic?" True to their name, I guess, they had a lot Mexican food on the menu. To their credit, a lot of it was fairly authentic. For instance, my nachos came (automatically... weird) with chorrizo. I don't know that the old Midwesterners staying here would even know how to pronounce that, let alone what the hell it is, so I didn't really get that one. I guess it's cool that they're pushing new stuff on them though. My SO's cheesesteak was lame, but the fries were lamer. Everyone else's food just looked like it sucked and that's sort of how the vibe came off as they ate it, but, like I said, I was actually somewhat happy with my nachos. Maybe that's the secret: stick to the appetizer menu and you're golden. As per the beer: they had a "special" that Saturday night that offered $3.50 pints of the draft beers. I think it was Dos Equis and Kiltlifter for the more interesting stuff, and a couple of the typical carbonated piss varieties otherwise. So I have the feeling the only people who will read this thinking "Hey, I wonder how they are" will undoubtedly be the guests of the Doubletree. And that's fine. Like I said, these hotel bars serve their purpose of having passable food and drink, in an atmosphere where no one staff-wise really gives a shit because the place doesn't have to turn a profit. Next time I'm at a Holiday Inn again though, I'll be back at the bar. And, honestly, I would come here again, if only to pretend like I'm traveling. read more

Actually I have some mixed feelings about this place. I laughed when I read some of the reviews before we came but we went to an event nearby and decided to give it a try. The food was mediocre to say the least, and waitstaff was missing a beat on their timing. But the ambience of the restaurant and hotel was actually pretty enjoyable. My partner had a taco plate and it was lackluster and pricey for sure. I had a quesadilla and a guacamole plate for appetizers. Both were on the happy hour menu but the quality of the food was marginal. If we ever come back to meet friends at this hotel, I would definitely dip in for a snack. However, I don't think I would eat a meal as there is much better Mexican food in this city for sure. And I appreciate refills on my drink when I have an empty glass sitting on my table for more than five minutes pushed over to the edge for a hint. Just saying! read more

We stayed at the hotel next door so this was a convenient place to eat. We thought it would be just Tex Mex but we're excited to see a variety of different foods. Since we were burnt out on Tex Mex we gave the other foods a try. Their special burger was really great, the beef was cooked perfect, the chili pepper was large and not spicy, but the bacon? Oh my goodness the bacon on that burger had an awesome kick! The waffle fries were perfectly crisp as well. Our son got the chicken fingers and I love that they have healthy side choices. Fresh grapes made the perfect addition! To top it off, the frozen margarita was perfect and perfectly priced. The service was quick, accurate, and friendly as well. Definitely recommend if you're in the area and need a laid back place to eat! read more

Waited over 30 minutes for our food which we received after asking the waitress twice and finally calling over the manager. The restaurant was not very crowded. Margaritas had no detectable tequila in them. Of the three dishes we ordered, the chicken sandwich was rubbery, the chicken taco salad had no chicken or any other kind of meat in it, but that was probably a good thing. The burger, however was good. This is a mess of a restaurant and the only reason we ate there is because we were staying in the Doubletree Hotel attached, and we were tired after our flight. The bartenders and servers provide great customer service here. This is an above average hotel bar to have a few drinks at while your party figures out where to have dinner, or a relaxing place to have a cocktail before bed. If you are jet-lagged or stuck on the property and are forced to eat here, the food is not bad but not great, and certainly not representative of Tucson or Mexican cuisine. Unfortunately I chose to be lazy and not venture to the wonderful world of restaurants that Tucson offers while I was there last week for work. I'll never make that mistake again. First, they are given the category of "Mexican" here by Yelp. They are far from any Mexican restaurant that I know. They are what I would call "American with the use of a few Mexican flavors." I sat at the bar which happens to be full service so I could watch Football while eating my dinner. The bar tender was certainly nice enough and was great at his job. Service is not where this place is lacking, let me make that clear. Where it is lacking is variety of menu items #1, and then the quality of items served. I have been to the Javelina Cantina several times after playing golf across the street. I really like the atmosphere and bar. Beers are cold and the bartender was cute, friendly, and attentive. We had the nachos with beef and they were pretty typical of what you would get at any bar-restaurant, but not the best I have had. Go here for drinks first, food second. read more

Every single thing about this place was disastrous. Having checked in to the adjoining hotel after a long day of traveling, I was looking forward to some decent in-house food and experience. I walked in at a little after 2pm on a Monday afternoon to find the place completely empty. Empty of customers is understandable, but there wasn't even any staff around. Since the TVs and lights were on, I knew they were open so I helped myself to a seat at the bar and waited patiently. Not too long after, a weary-looking young woman emerged from the kitchen with a half smile and asked if I would like something to drink. Since I was really after the food, I asked for a food menu, which she provided immediately. I don't recall her name, mainly because she never introduced herself. But she made it very vocally known throughout my time there that she was new, management was dumb, she was tired, and basically didn't want to be there. I asked her what time they close, in the hopes that this poor girl can go home and get some rest, AND that her replacement may be a bit more enthusiastic. "We close at 11, but I'm hoping it's dead so I can leave earlier," she said. Coming from a service background, I was blown away at her poor attitude. Regardless, I ordered the chicken skewers, thinking hey, they're healthy and not too expensive. What I received were 4 obviously old chicken thing skewers, completely unseasoned, on a bed of fresh cole slaw. Although the cole slaw was pretty good, the first bite of the skewer instantly brought a nasty lingering taste in my mouth. I explained that to the bartender, who was apologetic and replaced the item with the guacamole. And here was the true star of my night; the perfectly prepared, uber-fresh guac. A large portion served in a taco bowl, with ample crisp corn chips on the side. I filled up on just that. Overall, this had to be one of the most uncomfortable, unappealing, unimaginative dining experiences during all of my travels, and I'm on the road about 80% of the time.
