I've never been to Tomball, TX before today and honestly, it was searching for "beer" on Yelp that found me here. Tomball is pretty small (downtown anyway) but Fire Ant Brewing comes through big. They boast a menu of about 20 beers and I didnt have a single bogey. I opted for a flight just to sample matters and my favorite of the bunch had to be the Dunkel. Tasty, malty, smooth; good stuff. I also splurged for the Fire Ant Nachos with pulled pork and, good lord, this isn't meant for one person. I put on my brave face and powered back as many little mountains of fresh chips, nacho cheese l, pickled onions, tangy sauce and smoked pork as I could. I failed to finish but the victory is really the in the journey, isn't it? Friendly service, ample seating and a relatively quaint setting. When in Tomball, go to Fire Ant. read more

Fire Ant is a very special place in the heart of old Tomball. There are a lot of great breweries in the area, but not a lot of great breweries with great food, especially German themed food. Also most of the local breweries have a very industrial feel, which is fine, but Fire Ant has a more rustic, western feel. Lots of rough cut lumber. Fire Ant has an excellent selection of German style beers from kolsch to pilsners to old world lagers. We wandered in after a cold, rainy day of prowling around old Tomball and were immediately welcomed and well taken care of by the bartender and wait staff. During a resent visit to Houston, we came across this cute little area that offer unique items and this brewery. We stopped in for a snack and some local beers. The beers are more on the lighter side, they did offer a brow ale but no stouts or porters. I got a flight of 4 to try and I really enjoyed their wheat. The two ipas tasted very similar but they weren't too bad. They have a decent bar menu. We ordered the big pretzel and Mac n cheese. The server was helpful. They have a decent happy hour. read more

First review of 2024. A group of eight of us went here to sample the beer and to have dinner. It was already dark when we arrived so we decided to eat inside. I ordered the pimento cheeseburger with potato salad. It was very tasty. My beer was excellent. I know it was a lager or a Pilsner or both. We all sat at a high table on stools. Nobody fell off! Everybody had a great experience and the waitress was really helpful and efficient and got all our orders right. Parking shouldn't be a problem with a parking lot and street parking. At first we walked in and it was fairly empty but a Sunday afternoon. Stood at the entrance for a good 5 minutes with no greeting and no employees in sight. We walked out and went Nextdoor which was closed and the only reason we came back to try it. Fortunately we got seated! Great selection of their own beers and even some guest taps. I went here with a group of friends during a very busy time. The service was outstanding. Even though there was barely standing room on the patio, our server was on it and didn't miss refills either. I got the lemonade as I wasn't in a drinking mode and it was GOOD! It's more on the tart side and definitely made in-house. I would recommend. The brussel sprouts here are so amazingly good. They were swimming in liquid and I was anxious to try them but I'm so glad I did! I found myself dipping them in more sauce every chance I got. I plan on coming back again when they aren't so busy. Really have been wanting to try this place for ages and stopped in with my daughter and sister for lunch. Sat immediately in a nice booth and greeted by an amazing waitress who definitely made our experience at Fire Ant a great one. Gave us great advice and answered questions about all the beers available. We grilled our waitress about menu items too and she was the best at that as well. We ended up with a flight which we all taste tested and all were pretty good. My sister tried the blood orange blonde and was impressed. They do have Coca~cola products and Ice Tea for alternative drinks. Food was awesome! The appetizer we chose was the Queso Fundido and if you get this get this when you order your drinks because it does take a little bit for the kitchen to get it ready. We ordered from their lunch menu two Sweet Tea Fried Chicken Sandwiches and a Schnitzel Sandwich all very good choices as well as yummy . Sides were fries that were hand cut and still had the skins on "so good" and my daughter ordered the Deviled Egg Potato Salad. The potato salad was a little chunky for her but I thought it was delicious. Definitely want to come back with my husband and son for their take on what I think they would like to eat. read more

I finally got to try out Fire Ant last night after years of wanting to go. I used to live in downtown Tomball and watched this place get built, but moved before it was finished. We brought one of our dogs and sat on the patio. We started with a beer for my husband and a wine for me. I absolutely had to have a giant pretzel to start with as those are my favorite. The pretzel did not disappoint and could probably feed 3 people. My pup was happy she got to share it with us. Both the cheese dipping sauce and mustard were awesome. I could have probably just eaten that and been happy, but I wanted to try an entree as well. I got a cheeseburger and my husband got the chicken sandwich. Both were great, but I think the chicken was better. We had an awesome time and can't wait to come back. read more

The beer was very good, especially the bourbon barrel beer which surprised me because I don't usually care for them. I also had a very smooth cream ale. Went on a Saturday night at 6pm. Place was busy but we were seated immediately. I wish I would have got the young man that served us name because he was awesome. My wife is the beer drinker and was very happy with her selection. I am not much of a drinker so I had the server pick something for me that wasn't bitter and he picked a great beer for me. We had the Mac and Cheese with the bacon. We were going to each get a pretzel but our server told us they were huge and he was right. Pretzel was outstanding. Glad we only got one of them. Hate to deduct a star off of my previous ratings, but I was disappointed with Fire Ant during our last visit. I've been here multiple times, although my check ins may not reflect that (cell connection is abysmal here and I don't like to connect to public wi-fi networks). Usually we have great food and great brews here, but this last time was different than previous visits. While their beers are still excellent (many from which to choose and they all are very good), the food quality at Fire Ant has declined. Wings are great, which is what I ordered. However, others in my party did not experience such a culinary marvel: --only mac & cheese for kids is the same recipe provided for adults but in a smaller portion. This is NOT the kind of mac & cheese that kids l like, as it's got several "specialty" cheeses in it, which is a turn off for most children. --children's chicken tenders were disappointing. Usually this is an item that gets gobbled up in no time; they were bland and had a funky coating on them that wasn't crispy at all. Hardly eaten . . . --french fries were horrible. Soggy, limp, loaded with grease. They were completely left behind, not only on the children's plates, but also on every adult order that came with fries. Shameful. --too much jazzy, fancy ingredients in many of the dishes. Sorry, but a rueben should not have a poblano pepper and caramelized onions included on it, as it overwhelms the flavor of the corned beef. Other dishes also have funky additions which really don't add to the flavor of the dish at all. Service was good and seating was quick. Parking is still abundant, as there are several public lots and street parking nearby. Don't know if I'll rush back to Fire Ant any time soon. Really disappointed, since this used to be a great meeting spot to grab a brew and a bite with family that lives locally. Other places have opened up or have better food, so we'll probably be frequenting those locations instead. read more

We're here for the Tomball German Christmas Festival and we saw Fire Ant Brewing had a Rueben Sandwich so I left my booth as I tried to call and order two to go and nobody answered the phone. So I walk over there and I tried to order and they wouldn't take my order saying I'd have to sit down and order at a table they are doing take outs. They're busy but not bad enough to refuse to anything other than dine in. Maybe I'm just not getting it but I think I won't even bother. Shoot yesterday even one of their competitors came out to us and asked if we were hungry and if we wanted to order anything. Definitely taking them up on that. This place is awesome for the area, but the food is just average to me. Really enjoyed the pretzel this time I went, and the Mac n cheese wasn't bad but again average. My boyfriend did like the Korean bbq philly but I wasn't a fan. However the service was impeccable! The server we had was very friendly and helpful when it came to the menu. The manager also came by a couple times just to check in and chat. The beer (which this is the important part) was also very good. Those two things combined they are definitely a 4-5! Overall, definitely come by if you want a couple of drinks in a great atmosphere (also allows dogs!). Food? Give it a go, there are some things on the menu I've enjoyed more in the past, but don't expect too much. read more

A Tomball gem! Beer and food is excellent and high quality. Service is friendly and fast. Indoors or out it's very comfortable with a great atmosphere. A few favorites are Red Ale and Kolsch. The giant pretzel is probably the best I've ever had. And I love my pretzels! My son is type 1 & we struggled with cell service inside due to the metal roof. That's great for date night but for those needing medical devices working for their meal it makes for a worrisome experience. They did try to get us on Wi-Fi unsuccessfully but it was the though that counts! I do think the pricing is on the high end for the quality of food but it's a small business so I keep that into consideration. read more

Was looking forward to the brussel sprouts but got mostly leaves- not much resembled a brussel sprout. I've had them before -these were not them. The flavor was there but it was a skillet of mush. The waiter explained they had run out earlier and had to make more but not using the normal process. I would have sent them back but we had a guest. Surprised he didn't offer to bring us something else or comp us on the bill. They must have run out of chicken too because there was very little on the nachos. Even the fries were sad. I've recommended this place so many times, I hope it was just an off night but probably won't go back to find out. read more

Great find here in Old Town Spring. Good range of entry level beers for everyone to enjoy. The Local Link Board is a great deal with great food. Maybe add more bread and you could take a little sauce away to compensate if necessary. The staff was friendly and very attentive at the bar. It seems to be a local favorite that we will try again.
