Fast service, excellent customer service, place could use a little more cleaning maintenance throughout the day.

Delicious! I prepare my own bowl. All the vegetables and meat with this price, it is the best deal you can get! The Fire Bowl in the Arboretum is more fancy, however I do not know whether they have the prepare your own bowl thing. The only bad thing I can say is that even though you get the same stir-fry bowl with the same sauce and everything, the taste can be different every time. I hadn't been here in a while but I had shopping errands nearby. The food was slow to come out. The server dumped a cup of sauce on me and then handed me a couple napkins. After eating around all the white lettuce hearts and eating the badly spiced? Breaded? Chicken, I gave up on my meal and my shopping trip to go home to change clothes. read more

It was very clean! You get a lot of food for the money. However mine tasted moslty like soy sauce, just too much.

Fried rice is greasy. Curry sauce is rather bland without the fresh, coconutty flavor we expected.

I ordered the lunch special and felt like I was dining directly out of the Sysco truck. The Kung Pao sauce was a sweet glop that was nothing short of disappointing. I ordered fried rice but was convinced I got brown rice until I picked through it enough to spot one tiny speck of egg. I guess I should have known better for a low price point chain operation but I will not be returning. There are so many better locally owned Asian choices in Austin I will be surprised if this place lasts over the long haul. read more

If anyone suggests a trip to Firebowl Cafe, I will usually second the motion. While I'm not a fan of their pick your own stir-fry, I am a huge fan of their traditional dishes. My fav which I cannot seem to depart from everytime I go is General Tso's Chicken with brown rice, and a side of their rangoons as appetizers. Mix in some broccoli and I'm "shoppin broccoli... shoppin' broccoli... shoppin'... uh" Dana Carvey fans will get that I hope. Anyway, I've never really had a bad firebowl meal. I usually get things to-go and they are always on-time and efficient at getting me in/out so the food is still warm when I get home. read more

So so good! Everything arrived nice and hot. The hot and sour soup and the KOREAN GOCHUJANG HOT WINGS were awesome!

I walked in and it smelled great. So I was eager to give this place a try. I ordered a create your own fried rice bowl and a pork egg roll. My egg roll came earlier than my food. Which I understand that this isn't a restaurant. More like a order and dine type of place. So I didn't think much of it. I just would have liked things brought to me all at the same time. The egg roll was very bland and obviously barely warm by the time my actual entree arrived. The cost of my meal including the egg roll and drink was 13$. Which in my opinion is a on the higher end for what the flavor consisted of. I do like that they have kids specials during the weekends. But if I wasn't bringing my child to take advantage of this offer. I wouldn't stop by on my own. The actual rice bowl was also very bland. Besides tasting the sauce that was dumped on it. I didn't appreciate the variety of veggies it consisted of mainly bc I couldn't taste it. They do give you a lot of food. So I was able to take some home with me. But all in all I wasn't a fan of the place. It tasted too much like Panda Express. read more

I love this place. Good food. Friendly staff. Probably the best place for vegetarians over there in the Sunset Valley 'burbs. The only negative is that the place has been open for 10 years or so now and the place is looking dingy, especially the bathrooms. Also, I wish they would put the slaw garnish on the appetizer plates again, put the chopsticks on tables, and stop being so selfish with the fortune cookies. The place isn't as busy as it used to be before those things went away. But, I still love this place and my family never complains if we eat here. Someone walked in behind us and passed us in line to the pick up counter and they took his order first, then took our order rudely, constantly second guessing what we'd ordered or flat out forgetting it. read more

I've lived in Austin since 1978 except for my military years, and ate at a lot of Asian cuisine places worldwide. Firebowl Café on Brodie rocks! The place is super clean, in a beautiful environment (They even have a covered patio to eat out on) and the food? Out of this world! YOU choose what to put with your dish, is that not awesome or what? And for the little money that you do pay? It is a steal EVERYTIME because I've yet to eat there without having to order a to-go container because most of their meals are really two meals, if you know what I mean. Plus it is nice when the manager or staff comes out to talk with you and ask if everything is done to your liking. I rarely see that in the USA but in Europe and Mexico it is the standard! I'd pick Firebowl Café on Brodie if you want a truly refreshing Asian cuisine experience. read more

"Fast food" and "Asian" are two circles I'm always suspicious to see in the same Venn diagram, but Fire Bowl has found a way to make that intersection work. Its peers are other chains like P. F. Changs and Panda Express, which it beats handily. The food is filling and tasty enough (I usually get a beef red curry), my only gripe is that it doesn't seem like the greatest value. Shouldn't a dish at a fast food place be less expensive than the same dish at a sit-down restaurant which can beat it on either quality or quantity? Fire Bowl is faster than somewhere like Sap's, though, and that virtue alone it makes a more reasonable lunch stop. The permutations of rice/meat/vegetables are also more explicit here, which is either a blessing if you like your options laid out for you or a curse if you're with an indecisive coworker. We ordered take out from here last night and it was good, but nothing special. I ordered Pad Thai and it was okay, but a little bland. My husband had General Tsao's Chicken and he said it wasn't as good as others he's had, but it was tasty enough. This place has been a favorite for my family for years. My wife always gets the sesame chicken, the kids always get the sweet and sour chicken. It's pretty good food as far as fast food Asian goes. I typically go for the build your own stir fry because I can opt out of rice and instead pile on the veggies. Lately they have been skimping on the meat a bit, but it's still very good. The summer rolls are incredible - I would say the best thing here. We will continue coming because it's such a great family restaurant. Never too crowded, easy to seat a group of people. read more

Normally... Like 95% of the time things are great! But tonight was an example of the 5%. The wrapper on my summer rolls smelled sour. I had crusty, miso dried up on the outside of my bowl. The miso itself was barely warm. Lastly, our cashier was far from happy to be there. She couldn't use her words. With that, we have a 2-star review. This place is surprisingly tasty. What you'd think to be just okay food turns out to be a great meal. Definitely choose the option to do your own vegetables. You can load up the bowl quite a bit. For the price, it's a great value. One bowl is easily two meals--a deal at $10. read more

The thai dishes are awful. My yellow curry had no flavor and was not a curry at all. There wasn't any sauce and thats the best part of a curry! The pad thai was also super flavorless. The tom kha was far from authentic. I can't explain how bad this food was. Don't do it. read more

We've been coming to Firebowl cafe for 3 years and they have been great. I don't know what happened lately (change of mgmt?) but the portions are tiny specially the pepper steak. Called to complain and all I got was it is what it is, "we go by weight"...horrible customer service. read more

Fire Bowl Cafe... Concept, deco, utility... all 5 stars!!!! But alas, it's the food that matters. I've been 4 times now, each time trying something new. At first, it was the Pad Thai, and although on the bland and boring side, not bad, and worth another try. Then it was the Pineapple Fried Rice.... again, on the bland and boring side, but not bad. Then it was the Korean Beef Bulgogi.... down right terrible. I've had a lot of bulgogi in my lifetime, and aside from a few variances, the essence of the sweet sesame soy sauce is always apparent, but not at Fire Bowl. I had given up on Fire Bowl, but I had to meet a friend there, and so I ordered the General Tso's. They can't mess this up right?.... Oh HOLY Sh!t.... yes, they can! In my opinion, it's really hard to really mess up General Tso's Chicken. I mean, it's nearly a staple amongst most Chinese/Chinese fusion restaurants. But Fire Bowl had found a way to make it terrible. The wife insists on their cocount soup, so far that reason alone, I give you two instead of one star. Oh, and the restaurant looks nice. read more

I had never been to Fire Bowl Cafe until a couple days ago. I must say, I will be back!! When I called to place an order to pick up, Kenny answered the phone. He was pleasant, quick, and told me it would be 15 minutes. When I arrived 15 minutes later Kenny greeted me at the register and my order was ready to go. The pleasantness I experienced on the phone was confirmed and even surpassed by meeting the person. The only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is that the spiciness of my pineapple fried rice was so much that I couldn't taste all the other flavor of the dish. It was delicious but I wish I could've tasted more of the pineapple and spices. Next time I'll make sure to get one less spicy degree. But I'll be back! And keep Kenny around. :) read more

This is a great place for both eating in for lunch or dinner and also for catering. We placed an order for our rehearsal dinner, and were satisfied with the food. Everyone really enjoyed the food we served from Fire Bowl Cafe. Would highly recommend--great food at a reasonable price. read more

I've got mixed feelings about this place. I like it on some occasions but others could have been better. I didn't really like the food the last time, and I wasn't pleased with the fact that you have to get your own silverware and napkins. I'm really used to places where the servers will at least bring those items to you still. Not a fan of the restaurant being like a cafeteria. And we weren't really waited on at all either. I don't recall being asked if we were enjoying our meals. Sorry, Fire Bowl. I expected more. read more

The bowls are HUGE!! I love soup so I decided to order a side of soup with my bowl... Too much food. Next time I'm splitting a bowl with the hubby or just ordering soup. The spicier the better. This place is good for a quick casual lunch. read more

Been coming here since it was China Bowl, and it never disappoints. The General Tsao is fantastic with the fried rice, so is the sesame chicken with the pineapple. Not a big fan of stir fry myself but everyone I go with always likes it. Friendly staff and quick service too! read more
