Great homey interior with an expansive wine list but not sure what this restaurant is trying to be. Arrived at 8:00 on Sunday night after seeing Illuminations at the Mortons Arboretum (highly recommended). They were out of a number of items like the only soup on the menu and a couple other dishes. As it was late and we were hungry, we ordered a couple glasses of wine and quickly reviewed the menu. The menu was heavy on pasta and pizza and since we had homemade pizza the night before, we all ordered pasta. Vodka sauce for my wife, gnocchi with vegetables for my daughter and GF bolognese for me with a couple sides to share. Food came out hot and in a reasonable time. Mine was very well seasoned with pieces of carrot that you would expect in a bolognese sauce. Daughter said the gnocchi were cooked perfectly with a simple sauce that had some spice. My wife barely finished her dish as the vodka sauce was overly spicy in her opinion. Overall, maybe we should have ordered the pizza. Not sure if it was trying to be an Italian restaurant, pizza place or just a local place with a little of everything. We read the reviews and saw the recent positive press and maybe we came in with too high expectations. Either way, decor 4 stars, food 2 - 4 stars depending on the person. All in 3 stars. read more

Had a wonderful dinner here last night with a friend and can't wait to take my husband here on a date night! Service was excellent. Super attentive and friendly staff. We had the daily special cocktail which was a mango and rum drink. Can this please get added to the regular rotation? it was so good! As for food, we split the kale salad, pepperoni pizza, and vodka pasta. Everything was delicious. You can really taste the freshness of the ingredients here. My husband and I went here tonight and asked the manager to help us surprise my in-laws by announcing our pregnancy with a bottle of wine we brought with a custom label on it. The manager (Wes) and our waitress (Rachael) went above and beyond and we could not be more appreciative. Rachael even brought us two complementary desserts at the end, one with a pink candle and one with blue. The food was outstanding as always but I especially wanted to highlight the amazing service this restaurant has. We were very excited to try this place as so many people have told us how amazing they are. Due to COVID, having a big party, and wanting to celebrate longer than the 1.5 hour time limit, we decided to get our food TO-Go. We were VERY taken by the fact that they charge 18% gratuity on a to-go order, which is not listed anywhere that we saw on their website. We ordered $200 worth of food and paid around $35 in gratuity. We are not opposed to giving a small gratuity for the to/go person getting our stuff together, but 18% is absolutely absurd. And of course, all of our food was cold by the time we got it home. I would say the food was just "okay". So we felt we paid an insane amount of money for leftovers. The ambiance here is so nice, the dim lighting helps create a very warm atmosphere. We stop here every time we are in the area and get the vodka pasta, it is absolutely wonderful. Zucchini fries were piping hot and perfectly fried, seasoned with parm. Really enjoyed the smoked buffalo on the regina margherita pizza - ultra creamy and nice, smoky flavor, but could've used more basil (had literally two pieces). I'd probably give this more of a 4.5. Our server was nice but had a touch of attitude unfortunately. Food was quite good. The Asiago gnocchi was a little bit too salty. Kid friendly with kid friendly menu options. They also had a special for a sangria which was amazing and could definitely cause trouble if you got multiple because you do not taste the alcohol at all. Our server was courteous enough to remove a kiddy cocktail from our bill that the child ended up not liking. They also provided a free dessert for my birthday was was very nice. A night dinner, we decided to dine in forgot to call ahead to make a reservation. We got there there were two host I asked for a table and they said I would have to wait almost an hour to get seated when the patio and inside weren't full. They were rude and said they don't do reservations that they have a call ahead system that doesn't guarantee you a table either. What kind of restaurant doesn't allow walk ins or reservations. They finally sat us. We sat down and our server was friendly and great service! Food was quick but when we received our food the food presentation was poor, the pasta was over cooked and wasn't even that great! There was an older manager woman wearing a dress like if she was in a club, standing around looking very upsetting and not pleased to be working. We noticed she was not much support to her staff. The service and staff is attentive and well fast. I tried the speciality mediterranean mule beverage and I felt it was wayyyy too sour. We had there fried cheese balls, which was my first time having that. It was really good, I wish it had been more cheesy but I like the texture the rice offered it. It felt like a mini meal. I had the mushroom ravioli, I felt that the pasta filling was nothing special and a little simple the sauce though was good. The pasta tasted fresh, the vodka pasta was okay I thought the pasta for this dish was a little firmer and the sauce was kinda strong taste not sure how else to describe it, and i normally do like vodka sauce. Came here for dinner on a Saturday night with the fiancé! Saturday night can get super busy. I did try to call ahead for priority seating, but was told that their priority seating list was filled for the night. When we arrived around 7pm, it was an hour to an hour and a half wait. We opted to wait and we actually got in about 30 minutes later, so we may have gotten lucky. It was well worth the wait! That place was BOPPIN'! Everyone in town must have been there that night. If this place is so packed, obviously it has to be good right? Brian was our waiter and he was great. He was very knowledgeable with the specials and the menu. He even recommended the grilled romaine salad to start and mentioned it was a top seller. We went for one, perfect portion to share. Vegetarians beware: they have "pancetta" topped on this salad, which I learned is just a fancy word for bacon. It was easy to eat around and the fiancé appreciated extra for himself. The fiancé ordered a spicy chicken tortellini, which he loved. He could not stop talking about the sauce. I had the four cheese pizza. That was some seriously delicious pizza! Possibly my favorite restaurants in the Chicago western suburbs. Been here 3 times and each time have been very pleased with food, drinks, and service. First off, our waitress, Heidi, was very friendly. While here tonight we started with the Burrata which was so good and refreshing. Everything from the bread, pesto, and tomatoes were great. I got the shrimp and lobster rigatoni which was very good. I have previously gotten the short rib rigatoni, as well as a special(steak with spaghetti and Parmesan cream sauce). Their white based sauces are some of the best I can remember. If you enjoy Alfredo or anything similar, get these! My girlfriend got the vodka pasta which was also good. Previously we have gotten the zucchini fries and the Asiago gnocchi as starters. Would definitely recommend everything mentioned. I'm eager to try more of their small plates and their pizza as well. What a fantastic experience. A colleague suggested we have dinner here and boy was it a grand slam. Our waiter, Brian, was fantastic on recommendations and on service. The manager/owner Anthony was fantastic. They have set the bar for a great experience. Service and food is #1. We started with one of the Chef's specials (I think they call it a chef-playground), the Dates stuffed with Chorizo and wrapped in Bacon. Holy cow - they do it better than all the Tapas places we have tried. We also got the Scallops and Cauliflower, one of two favorite dishes, a must try, and finally the Crispy Pork Belly (our favorite dish - God I want more). These were small plates but truly, they were entree sizes. Awesome flavor. We also split the mussels which we sooooo good and fresh. This place is a class act. They had an awesome craft bourbon (only one - my only complaint) and a great array of wines by the glass. Their desserts are fantastic. They had a boudini that is to die for. Fire + Wine is located in downtown Glen Ellyn near plenty of free places to park. It is recommended to call ahead since this restaurant gets really busy at dinner. I have checked out this restaurant two times with my girlfriends and plan to continue going to try more of their menu items. For my first visit, I had the Shrimp and Lobster Rigatoni. Well worth the price! It is chock full of great tasting lobster and shrimp that goes nicely with tender rigatoni and creamy sauce. The toast points that come with the pasta are great for dipping in the sauce. For my second visit, a friend and I split the Arancini Mozzarella and both ordered Chicken Carbonara, which was the special house made pasta dish that night. As a person who is not a huge cheese fan (go ahead and laugh lol) I quite enjoyed the Arancini Mozzarelli. It was crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The cheese with risotto inside was not overwhelming and was tasty with the sauce and onion straw topping. The carbonara was very filling and I was glad to try out the special offered only that day (hopefully it will be added to the menu!). read more

First, I must say that I've NEVER written a review on any restaurant, retail store, doctor's office or any place ever before, but I feel I MUST let others know what my husband and I experienced tonight (Valentine's Day) at Fire & Wine in Glen Ellyn. I made reservations in early January (about 6 weeks ago), because it was recommended by one of my neighbors who had gone there and thought it was nice. Since I live in a neighboring town, I made a reservation for 5:45pm... slightly before the rush of the dinner crowd. When my husband and I arrived, there were at least 5 other couples with the same reservation start time of 5:45pm. We checked in at the hostess desk and stepped off to the side to wait our turn to be seated. One of the hostesses handed buzzers to two couples who were waiting when we arrived, and one who arrived after us, and said "Your tables are being cleared, so give us a couple minutes." Then she said to us, "Your table will be ready next." So I turned to one of the couples with the buzzer (who was waiting when we arrived) and asked "How do they determine which table one should get? You guys were here before us." And of course, they said they didn't know. And within about 5 or 6 minutes, they called our name, and we began to follow another "seating" hostess to our seat. As we proceeded down the steps to the main dining room, she placed the menus on a table that was honestly sitting in the aisle... to which I said, "oh no, can we please sit at some other table? Like this empty one next to it?" Right away she said "no, I don't think so." And as she was saying that, a manager walking by in the walkway overheard my question and sternly said, "THIS IS THE ONLY TABLE THAT'S AVAILABLE!" and continued to walk on by. So this is where I blame myself, I should have turned around, walked out and gone up the street to a fast food place... but it is Valentine's Day and I wanted to spend a nice evening with my husband, at WHAT I THOUGHT was a nice place and enjoy a meal since we don't get to do that often. Instead, I asked her to check with the hostesses out front to see if we can sit at one of the other numerous EMPTY party-of-2 tables that was visible to me (at a quick glance around, I counted about 10 empty 2-seater tables at that time). But of course, she came back and said, "this is the only table." I wanted to ask what about all the other empty tables around, but my husband did not want to make waves since we were the only elderly African American couple there. The waiter approached our table about the same time, and I told him that I really didn't want to sit in the walkway. He agreed that it was in a bad spot - with EVERYONE whizzing by, so he tried to see if he could move us but was also told that "it was the only table for us." He also told us that a table is NOT normally positioned in this spot, but they were trying to get more seating for couples in the restaurant because of Valentine's Day. Sadly, I placed my order for the cheapest entrée, and neither my husband nor I purchased an appetizer, wine, coffee, dessert or anything else. Fire + Wine offers delicious Italian fusion cuisine that is perfect for a more intimate meal. It was my first time visiting this restaurant and I was very happy with my experience. I am so grateful that they do reservations. I believe they accept walk-ins for outdoor seating and reservations for dine-in. Personally speaking, I was so glad that I chose to make a reservation. The outdoor seating seemed way too packed to be safe in my opinion. My family works in healthcare so I'm more aware of things like that than the average person. I love that they have plexiglass inside separating the booths. They also require masks. They also have a 1.5 hour limit so that's something to keep in mind. I felt very comfortable dining in. The host seated us at a more wider bench at first but it felt kind of awkward since there was no plexiglass or anything for protection and it was a little odd since my view was of the many people eating so it felt a bit uncomfortable. I asked the host if we could switch to a booth and he was very gracious and switched us with no problem. I also appreciated that we were provided with a laminated QR code so we can all view the menu from our phones! We ordered a few small plates: Asiago Stuffed Gnocchi ($14), Zucchini Fries ($11), and Crispy Cooked Pork Belly ($14). The gnocchi was out of this world. The flavor profile was a stroke of genius and I could have honestly ordered a second. The Zucchini Fries were also good and a healthier version of a classic. I believe the dip is also fresh which is a nice touch. I wasn't in love with the pork belly. It was good- it just wasn't my type. For all my fellow Filipinos, it resembles the famous lechon dish! For the main course, my sister and I have this system whenever we go out to eat. We each both get different things and then split it so that we can enjoy tasting the menu! We ordered the Wild Mushroom Ravioli ($19) and the Vodka Pasta ($17). We asked our server if we would be able to get those two dishes split in half already and they were very accomodating! It was absolutely delicious. The food tasted so fresh! You can tell they choose their ingredients wisely because the blend of flavors was divine. I personally was shocked at how much I loved the Vodka Pasta more than the ravioli (which was still good, though)! I'm normally a ravioli kind of gal through and through but I thought the ravioli tasted a tad bit ordinary even though I know they added gourmet ingredients like truffle oil. Maybe it was just my taste buds? My sister agreed though. In comparison, the Vodka Pasta was really something else. My sister enjoyed everything as well and appreciated that there was a heat to the dish but it wasn't spicy- which attests to a seasoned chef who knows exactly how to blend flavors. My friend ordered the Spaghetti and Meatballs and enjoyed it as well! She frequents the restaurant a lot and claimed that it was her "second kitchen". As for dessert, we ordered the Panna Cotta ($6) and Butterscotch Budino ($6), which were delicious. They are both very rich and indulgent so I'm glad we shared! I haven't tried anything like it so I was pleasantly surprised. The ambiance is beautiful and romantic, the service was solid and accomodating. I think the only thing I would warn someone before coming here is that since it is finer cuisine, they should expect to see that in the check. You can tell they use fresh ingredients and that each dish is really well made so I think for finer dining the price was fair. Especially too, it is downtown so it is more upscale. I just wouldn't recommend it to a family who is sticking to a budget but rather would recommend it for very special occasions! The food ranges about $15-$25+. Truthfully, there is a dish for everyone here. The menu is vast and offers various options for all the foodies out there. I admire the innovative menu too- that kind of thing is hard to find in the suburbs. They even have a "Chef's Playground" or special of the day which promotes creativity! I always appreciate when restaurants do that- it shows a desire to try new things. A little detail that I find worthwhile to bring up were their use of sturdy paper straws which makes a huge impact on the environment! I highly recommend coming at an earlier hour to avoid the rush and to make a reservation to dine-in. I will be sure to order the Asiago Gnocchi again.
