We went on a Wednesday night. They were busy and we waited about 15-20 min. Front staff was friendly. Our server Brittani was amazing! She was so welcoming and friendly. They were supporting a foundation with orders of cocktails- I liked how they gave back to the community. The population seemed very warm...a lot of locals and people knew each other. Stopped in for dinner, seated outdoors.....ordered drinks and an appetizer, no place settings, no appetizer plates, had to flag down the support staff.....he was probably the most responsive employee there. Dinner continued the downward experience...vodka sauce with pasta, soo under cooked, we xomplained and the waiter walked away as we were talking to him.....also ordered the pork belly, soo over cooked it was stringy, tough and almost unedible....once again the waiter was disconnected, never concerned....too many other choices within 300 feet. read more

They have a decent amount of vegetarian options which I loved and a great wine selection. The atmosphere of the restaurant was like a casual trendy vibe. Damnnn, the suburbs are steppin their game up. For a while, I figured if you wanted to check out any cool and new, non-chain restaurants, then the city was the only place to go. But I'm noticing that downtown Geneva/St. Charles/Glen Ellyn/Wheaton all have some interesting places to make for a nice little Friday or Saturday in the good ol suburbs. We had our eye on the new spot in Glen Ellyn called Maize + Mash, and figured we would be fine showing up at 5:30 PM since they didn't take reservations. Nope, I guess Glen Ellyn is so poppin that you gotta show up at 4 just to get a seat at dinner haha. The wait was quoted at 90 minutes and then it somehow grew to 2 hrs when we checked back 30 min later. Long story short, we did the same thing at Fire & Wine across the street, and they happened to be the first to call our name after about an hour wait. Ambiance: At first it looked really small since there were a ton of people just huddled up at the front and you didn't see too many tables, but they actually had a decently open space in the back. It wasn't too dark, but dim enough to make for a good date spot. The space and decor just gave off old world Italian vibes with all the wooden decor. There was no shortage of incoming people, so they had a lively atmosphere all night. Drink: With wine in the name, we definitely had to sip on some vino with our meal. They surprisingly had moderately priced bottles of wine, even though they could've easily gotten away with higher prices given the high demand to eat here. Food: Their menu consisted of tapas style small and large plates, which was perfect for us to just order a bunch of stuff to try it all. Asiago Stuffed Gnocchi - Damn, this was probably my favorite dish of the night. Each of these little bites packed a big punch of flavor. The gnocchi was a nice soft, pillowy texture and then they were stuffed with the creamy and salty asiago cheese. It's topped off with some more shaved pecorino cheese, which probably doesn't make it the healthiest dish. My favorite part though were the pieces of toasted garlic. I usually like an absurd amount of garlic in my food, and this garlic flavor was so potent that it earned my seal of approval. I just wish the portion size was bigger. I could literally eat a shit ton of these. Crispy pork belly - This was seriously a thick ass piece of pork belly...closer to eating a piece of steak rather than a piece of bacon. It was perfectly crisped on the outside and still had layers of melted fatty goodness in the middle. The glaze on top was some sort of sweet, bbq like sauce. I'm admittedly not the biggest fan of veggies, so I didn't really touch the salad that accompanied the pork belly, although I did hear good things about it haha. Beef medallions - This dish was pretty straightforward...two small pieces of steak with a medley of vegetables. You know what you're in for when you order this dish. It was simple, but damn those pieces of beef were tender as hell. It was cooked perfectly with a great combination of juicy texture with a well seasoned flavor. Black pepper Shrimp - It's like the Italian version of shrimp n grits. There were about 5 pieces of shrimp on top of a pile of polenta. I loved the bold flavor of the pepper mixed with the creaminess of the polenta, which cut some of that spice. Vodka pasta - Outside of the gnocchi, this was probably my next favorite dish. My girlfriend and I were splitting it and they were nice enough to serve them in two smaller, separate bowls (each with its own piece of garlic toast so we wouldn't have to fight over it haha). The pasta was absolutely perfect: super al-dente with a firm and dense texture. It had a little bit of everything. There was definitely creaminess with the mascarpone and the creamy tomato sauce, and then a little bit of heat with the chili flakes, and then some saltiness and crunchiness with the crispy prosciutto. It's probably a good thing it wasn't a Maggiano's style portion or I would've wrecked my stomach for the night haha. Nutella calzone - For dessert we couldn't resist with the nutella calzone. It was just oozing with melted nutella and tastes as good as it sounds. Toss a few berries in there to call it healthy. Overall, I was really digging the suburban date night scene. The options are growing for when you don't feel like driving all the way to the city. I ain't mad about that. read more

I went to Fire + Wine last night for my 20th birthday dinner! It was just my parents and I, and we went it without a reservation and we're sat immediately. The main dining room was quite loud due to how packed it was, but our server was very kind and spoke clearly enough so we could understand what he was saying. The service overall was very good. For dinner, we decided to share a couple dishes. First, we got the burrata. I love burrata, and was extremely excited to get some. It's a piece of toasted French bread, goat cheese, roasted red pepper, arugula, and prosciutto. Altogether, the flavors are amazing! Next, we got the large grilled romain salad. That was so good! A must try. Then we ordered the spicy chicken tortellini and the four cheese pizza. The pizza was average, but it was just a cheese pizza. The tortellini, though, was amazing! The sauce on that was soooo good. We seriously licked the bowl. That is a MUST order. At the end of the meal, our server surprised me with a salted caramel dessert for my birthday! I've loved this place for years, but sadly I was met with bad customer service. We set a reservation for Mother's Day which we were told was going to be a timed seating which is completely understandable. When we arrived before our time we were told they were picking the table up/cleaning it. About 20 minutes go by and since we were told they were cleaning the table- we wanted to check in which we were told "well they are now ordering dessert". The desserts here are good so not unexpected- just not expected after being told that our table was already being cleaned. After about 20 more minutes of waiting, a party that had a reservation time after us were seated before us with the same amount of people. Now I get it with tables and reservations- but how were they seated before us? Now at this point we have been waiting for 45 minutes and people in the party ended up leaving because the hour shift. Instead the manager gave us an insincere apology just after asking when our initial reservation time was for. Once we were finally seated (an hour after we arrived) the manager never came to talk to us or offer any apologies. Working in customer service, you know when you get a bad experience. Again- if we would have just gotten a sincere acknowledgment to the situation but instead was just being told excuses and brushing us off. The food here is great but empathy/customer service is lacking (other than the waitstaff- they have ALWAYS been awesome) and it's not up to the customer to continue to try to get service(regarding the situation). Went here to celebrate a birthday. The food was OK. I've had better pizza and better pasta but it was still good. The service was good in the beginning but as the night went on, we saw less and less of the server. The issue with the server was not that they were not rude in anyway and they actually even provided recommendations, but the problem was that we wanted our check and it took about 15 to 20 minutes for someone to ask us if we were done with our meal when our plates were finished. Along with that after I gave them my card and it took another 10 to 15 minutes to get it back. I like the ambience of the location, but the seating was pretty bad as it was right by the front door, even though there was space in the nicer areas - in hindsight, I should have asked if I could get a better seat, but it was just odd to me of the placement. We had finished our meal in 30 minutes and were going to a party, but were delayed 30 extra minutes due to the slow service. (Also the restaurant was not full, I've considered that maybe they was busy with other guests but there weren't many guests to consider and there was additional staff present). Would try to come again, but would have to clear my schedule for the night. read more

Took our son and two young grandkids one evening and we all had the best food and nicest waitress. the restaurant was very busy, but you'd never know it once seated as we had none of the long wait times for food or drink that a swamped venue can trigger. As a longtime Glen Ellyn resident, we've enjoyed dining at Fire and Wine only occasionally- it's so busy pretty much all the time, and often we just don't want to deal with having to wait. Last night however we were celebrating our daughter in law's graduation, and her parents wanted to host a dinner afterwards- we suggested they look into Fire and Wine. They were able to book an event reservation for our group of 12, and were even told that they could bring in their own cake. What set our experience apart when we arrived for dinner though, was how professionally and calmly the busy staff dealt with our "lost" reservation (the issue may very well have been on our end). They scrambled and managed to put together a big table for us without any drama. We all sat down and had a truly wonderful evening. Our waitress was amazingly organized, energetic and thoughtful, and of course the food was beautifully made and delicious. Kudos to all for helping us celebrate our daughter in law! read more

We have been going to Fire & Wine for many years now. It is our go to place for birthday celebrations with our kids and their families. We have had many of the items on the menu from the small plates to the grilled romaine which is excellent to the mushroom ravioli, spicy chicken tortellini and vodka pasta which are all excellent too. Desserts are delicious especially the Italian donuts. I don't think there is anything on the menu that isn't outstanding. Servers are very nice and very informative when it comes to wine selections. Food is always prepared perfectly and presented nicely. The atmosphere is very nice even when it gets crowded. They don't rush you they make sure you are satisfied. One of the better Italian places in the Western Suburbs. Food has great flavor and pasta seems to be made from scratch. I'd rate the pizza 7/10 (high rating from me since I'm a pizza snob). One of the best cocktails I've had (a whiskey tea mixture). I 10/10 recommend the honeycomb and whipped ricotta appetizer. Warm cozy environment. I decided to celebrate my birthday again at fire + wine, but this time on a much more intimate scale, with only my mom. I forgot to call ahead and just walked in, i was told my wait would be 45 to an hour wait, however, it ended up being much less than that. Yay! Our server, ended up being Heidi (again!) And just as last time she was warm and attentive, love her! She really made us feel welcomed and she helped us make some dining decisions (such hard decisions!). We were not disappointed! I have to point out that I dine out often and Heidi is one of the best servers out there :) The kitchen ended up having a beet salad surplus, and Heidi let us try it, that was a pleasant surprise. We ordered several small plates to share, cauliflower and scallops, zucchini fries, grilled octopus, sorbeto, tirimsu and wine. Everything was delicious! My family stopped in here for dinner last night. Although it was busy upon arriving, we were seated almost immediately. Our server greeted us within a few minutes and brought over water glasses for each of us. We started with a bottle of the pinot Grigio and two large orders of the grilled romaine salad. The salad is one of my favorites and I order it every time I visit. For dinner, we decided to share a few pizzas - the margarita pizza and the spicy sausage and peppers pizza - and an order of the spicy chicken tortellini. The pizzas were both cooked perfectly and the spicy sausage pizza had a great flavor and kick to it. If you can't handle jalapeños, you might want to stay away from this pizza. The margarita pizza was average, but still overall good. The tortellini was by far the best entree we ordered. The sauce that came on the dish was delicious. Really, really good. It's an incredibly popular place and even on a Wednesday at 8pm there was a little bit of a wait, but it's not a huge place and the food is worth it. They have some small plates food that can be shared tapas style as well as some full entrees. I like that they have daily specials to keep things interesting and that even the full entrees are the perfect size. You won't leave with leftovers, but you will leave full. We had the lamb ragout and the wild mushroom ravioli with a panna cota for dessert. Food was excellent. Service was slightly slow, but they were busy. An important thing to note too is that they do sometimes run out of things - especially the special menu items, but I suppose that is what makes it special. I can't believe it's taken this long to check this place out! It was absolutely outstanding! We went early around 5:30 on a Saturday but by 7:30 it was packed! Make sure you have a reservation or utilize the call ahead. This restaurant is much larger than I imagined. The cocktails were delicious and all the food! We ordered the Burrata as an app and each got our own entrees. My husband got the Cedar Planked Salmon and I got a pasta dish. We split the potatoes side which was heavenly but it could have used a spicy sauce/ aioli on the side. I will definitely be coming back to try their small plates as they looked delicious! read more

I went with my daughter for a pre-Mothers day outing since I don't want to be near any restaurant on Mothers Day. She wanted to try Fire and Wine. It sounded great and we ended up getting a seat right away at about 6:30 PM on a Tuesday night. The menu looked interesting, the staff was great and the food was delicious when it arrived. However, the noise level in the restaurant had us shouting back and forth at each other over the small table, and our throats both became hoarse, so we left early . While the food and service experience was good, even better than good, I would not return to this restaurant due to the noise. For those who are ok with shouting across a small table, then it will be a great experience. For me, the level of noise kind of ruined it for me. read more
