Love this place and have been going for years. The last time my family and I went, we got there about an hour and a half before closing time. As my husband is eating, he noticed something on his plate that didn't belong on the dish. It was a chair felt pad. Not sure how that would get into the kitchen and on his plate. I've been here twice for business dinners with colleagues. Both times the service has been outstanding. The food equals the service. They have reasonable prices on wine and appetizers, and we're very keto friendly. Well not all the appetizers were keto friendly, it's easy to find plenty to eat there if you were on a specialized diet. There may be what some would consider vegetarian options, Vegetarians in Pesca Terrian's would be happy there as well. My only disappointment came on my last visit when the waiter presented the specials and I ordered the walleye, only to have him return two minutes later to tell me they were out. This was at 6:00 PM. Not sure how you run out of a special at the beginning of the dinner hour. Probably a little shortsighted on the chef and the wait staff. Otherwise, the food there is always excellent. read more

Came here last night and the food was outstanding!! We actually came last weekend as well for the first time. The 40 minute drive was well worth it both weekends because it was very nice to sit inside a restaurant and not in a heated tent outside. We ordered the Asiago stuffed gnocchi for an appetizer and it was delicious. For our main meals I orders the chicken caprese and he ordered the vodka sauce pasta with rigatoni with chicken. Both meals were very delicious. Our first time there last weekend we ordered the Nutella calzone for dessert and OMG was it heavenly!!! This place is a pure gem! Great ambiance and the service of Dakota and Valerie were amazing. We had Dakota our first time and she was awesome and last night we had Valerie and she was great as well. I previously went here for a work event and tried many different small plates and all were so good. I just love this restaurant. I've been her three times over the last year and their service is outstanding. Every server is just the best. Now for the food. Just great. I've had great meals here. Mushroom toast appetizer is amazing. Fig prosciutto pizza is so good. Had a Sea Bass special that was delicious. Short ribs on another visit was delicious also. We've only been here twice, but Fire + Wine is quickly becoming a top spot for our family. What sets it apart from other restaurants is that it feels as indulgent for the parents who enjoy elevated dishes and a drink or two as it does for the kids who know what's up and order the four cheese pizza (the kids' menu doesn't cut it for these foodies). Besides the amazing four cheese pizza, the black pepper shrimp over polenta is fabulous. It has just the right amount of heat that the kids will eat it too. We also recently sampled the crab cake special which delivered but didn't wow. For dessert, we closed out the meal with a $7 order of donuts with chocolate honey. A heaping plate of fried dough arrived and we went to town. I mean, who doesn't enjoy a mountain of homemade donuts?! No one I know. I must say, Glen Ellyn has an upscale, exclusive feel, but the service at Fire + Wine has been incredibly down-to-earth and friendly. Meg was our server tonight and she couldn't have been better. For my entree I got a the vodka pasta dish (but made it without any meat since I'm a vegetarian). It was amazing! Some of the best pasta I've had! Damn, this restaurant is definitely worth the trip to Glen Ellyn, the wait, not so much but I'll get to that later. The four of us went for dinner last Friday night around 6:30p and unfortunately F + W does not take reservations but have some system called the "Priority Wait List" where you call and you get an estimated wait time for their wait list. Now their space is limited in the bar area (especially on a Friday night as it was for us) so if you end up waiting over an hour, it can seem longer than that. After our buzzer went off, we were seated in an area of the restaurant that was like a cove and was very cozy. It gave us the opportunity to converse and be able to hear our conversations unlike the bar area where it was a bit noisy. JP and I decided to split several menu items as our respective ladies (Momo and Darcy) had their own meals. JP and I started with the Zucchini Fries. What a great call as they were lightly breaded with a sprinkle of Parmesan. Then we tried the Wood-Fired Wings and we were split on it as I thought they were tasty with a bit of a kick due to the chili paste and jalapeños. For the main course, I did the Short Rib Pie which was good. The miss on this one was the middle portion was not cooked throughly as it was a little soggy. JP got the Lobster + Shrimp Rigatoni. Wow! Now that was an amazing dish! The parm cream sauce was delicious as was the accompanying Lobster + Shrimp. If you do not like garlic, do not get this dish as it's heavy on the garlic! Also, kudos to Stephanie our waitress who was amazing and attentive to us. Congrats on your upcoming nuptials! Overall it was a great experience but they need to address the non-reservation issue. Perhaps they should take reservations, keep some tables open for walk ups but penalize monetarily the no shows for the reservations. Parking is available in a lot across the street. I was resistant to going, there is typically a wait and they don't do reservations. I was wrong. We went early and didn't have to wait long (you can call ahead and get on the list) We actually went with a good attitude, we got there at 5:00 on a Saturday and they said it would be about 1-1.5 hours, we were there, we were committed and we were ready. They sat us in 15 minutes. Am I alone in wanting to break out in the James Taylor song "Fire and Rain" every time I hear the name of this place? (I'm doing it now) So, it's Italian (in case you didn't know) The wood fired Pizza's are good.. but the small plates and meals are the real deal. There were four of us and we ate enough for twice as many. Don't judge! We showed restraint.. there were so many things we wanted to try.. we actually had to compromise. Small plate/ Appetizers.. Grilled Romaine, (winner! who'd have thought?) Bacon wrapped dates, Ricotta Honeycomb, Italian Bean Dip, Fresh Mozzarella, Pepper Shrimp, Prosciutto Pie and more! Had an early dinner at Fire and Wine yesterday for a friend's bday. Restaurant was pretty busy and appears to be a neighborhood spot. It was a first visit for myself and my companion who were in the area for an event. We were seated pretty quickly. Our server, Genevieve was very nice and friendly and spoke well of management and food. Her service was was good and attentive enough. We started with zucchini fries and the arancini. I had been craving arancini for about a month so was glad to find them on the menu. Zucchini fries were good although they came with barely enough ranch to drizzle over them so asked for more. The arancini however were flavorless and a disappointment. For our entrees my companion went with the prosciutto and fig pizza. I was teetering between pizza and risotto. Since risotto is harder to find on menus I decided to go with that and the white fish. Entrees arrived and the pizza looked quite good. My companion was pleased. I couldn't wait to taste the risotto. Unfortunately, again flavorless and also undercooked. The white fish and arugula salad were quite good however so I opted not to bother sending the plate back. After dinner we decided to have coffee and dessert there rather going to anotherlocation. Coffee was brewed fresh which we appreciated. We ordered the tiramisu and Italian donuts to share. Rarely do either of us have anything negative to say about dessert but in this instance the tiramisu was very small and not as good as we've had elsewhere. The "donuts" were more like fried dough pieces which I'm not complaining about. I mean friend dough pieces or rounds are all the same to me so long as cooked right and served hot. These didn't come out very hot unfortunately, not enough powdered sugar either so not the greatest dessert experience unfortunately. All in all the meal was ok. I was shocked to see that we were charged for the side of additional ranch for the zucchini fries, but I suppose with covid creating supply chain issues things are tougher on businesses these days. I'd say 3.5 stars would be more accurate for this experience and that's mostly because my fish was delish and my friend enjoyed her pizza and Genevieve was nice. read more

I had a craving for tapas so the husband and I made our way to Fire and Wine to try a new place. Only two things on my mind, seafood and burrata, this place delivers on both. Called ahead trying to make a reservation and they have an interesting waiting list that you can put yourself on but NO RESERVATIONS. I would highly recommend doing this since it was very busy and the bar was packed this past Friday night. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and respectful of our romantic night out. We ordered the Buratta with prosciutto and sun dried tomatoes, grilled baby octopus, bacon wrapped shrimp, and scallops with risotto to share. By far the grilled baby octopus was the star, cleaned well, prepared simply and accompanied with a generous portion (for tapas) of greens, potatoes and green beans. The shrimp, two per plate, was a little disappointing and predictable but it was the husbands pick so we had to have it. For dessert we each wanted our something different so we go the Italian donuts and tiramisu to share. Be warned the donuts could satisfy a family of four but they were very good. My boyfriend and I have friends in the Glen Ellyn area and have always driven past this place. We were attracted to it by the black awnings and the hip fonts. We thought it looked young and cool. This past Saturday we were meeting up with friends to go bar hopping for St. Patrick's Day. Little did we know that they were going to stand us up for an hour and a half. With time to kill and empty bellies to fill, we decided to pop in and check it out. We got great parking on the street only a block away! When we walked in around 5 pm. the place wasn't that full. There were families, couples, large groups and individual diners. This place was cool! Where else could be as hip, trendy, "sexy" and kid friendly? Because I haven't been there. There were two hostesses. A young girl, with light blond hair was polite and kind. She smiled and greeted us warmly. However we were seated by the snarky rude brunette with long hair next to her. She was sarcastic, impolite and immature. We immediately got the feeling that she didn't want to be there and didn't want us to be there either. My boyfriend and I exchanged a look as we followed her to our table. We were shown to a table for two in the lower dining area. After our hostess left, we barely had time to catch our breath before we were greeted by our waiter. His name was Frank and he immediately poured us glasses of water, leaving a pitcher on the table for us. Our waiter was friendly, he asked us how our day was going and if this was our first time here. When we replied yes, he jumped right in. Frank explained some of the different dining options at Flour +Wine, as well as showed us the wine list. He left for awhile to let us look over the menu. Upon his return, my boyfriend and I were undecided because everything sounded delicious! Frank then mentioned the specials, and recommended the house favorites by most patrons. While we were still deciding he offered to get us drinks. My boyfriend went with the Laguanitas IPA and I was craving something new and different. Our waiter got very excited and wanted to introduce Flour+Wine's newest martini. It was vodka infused with figs, with a splash of lime. Their bartender had just come up with the idea last week, and was eager to premier it. I have never had figs, so I went with it. When our drinks arrived, we were impressed. Not only did our waiter pour the beer into a glass, he patiently waited for me to try the martini to see if it pleased me. I LOVED it! At this point we ordered two small plates. My boyfriend ordered the "Hanger Steak" and I the "Rock Shrimp + Crab Fritters." I'm going to skip how AMAZING the food was because I could go on for days and days about how delicious it was (is). This is food that you dream about. Food that you think about in your spare time. This is food that will make you come back. Again, and again and again. After we pretty much licked our plates clean, our waiter suggested dessert. I already knew my boyfriends answer because he is NOT a sweets kind of guy. But when he looked at the menu and actually ordered, my jaw hit the floor. (After 5 years of being together, he has NEVER ordered dessert.) I snatched the menu out of his hands (sorry honey!) and scanned the menu for whatever turned my "anti-sweets" boyfriend into a person who ordered a third course. When the "Zeppole" arrived I knew. I just knew. I knew that we would be coming back here for many, many more meals over the years. We will bring friends, family and maybe one day, kids. Finally got around to trying this place out. We decided to have an early dinner and arrived at the restaurant around 4:30. At that time the restaurant was not busy, there was no wait and we got a great parking spot. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by two very friendly and energetic girls, they were both very pleasant. We got seated right away. The restaurant is nice and cozy, we were seated by the Windows which was nice and bright. The seating on the lower lever, main dining area is dark and romantic looking. Our sever, a very nice girl, explained the menu, told us their drink special and the dinner special. She went to get us water and we got to look over the menu. For my drink I went with a raspberry beer that was fantastic. I'm not a wine person, but their wine list is impressive. Their beer selection was not bad either. We ordered the black pepper shrimp appetizer and that was fantastic. It had a spicy hint without being overly hot and it was served over polenta and there were some peppers thrown in the mix. My boyfriend and I enjoyed it very much. For my entree I got the seafood risotto. Scallops, shrimp, and clams in a delicious sauce mixed in with risotto. The server grated fresh Parmesan over it and it melted right in. The dish was very generous with the shrimp and the scallops were a nice size. My boyfriend got the hangar steak served with veggies. His dish was amazing. He ordered the steak medium and it was cooked to perfection and it was even charred a bit. He was blown away and so was I. The steak melted in your mouth. I was a fatty and ordered dessert, the flourless chocolate cake served with vanilla bean gelato and whip cream. The cake itself was not bad, a little too rich for my taste but the gelato was wonderful. We had a great experience, the food was amazing, the staff was great and the background music was awesome. We had a lovely time here the other night! Everything was very delicious, rich, and flavorful. The stand-out dish was definitely the crispy pork belly! It was heavenly! I'm knocking one star because there is no cocktail menu and because our server rarely checked on us, and took forever to bring our drinks, each time we waited for at least 15-20 for a glass of wine. At one point I asked our server if my wine was coming out soon since most of our food had alread arrived, quite quickly I must add, and he responded with, "I think it will be a few more minutes, are you going to be okay?" I know he meant that jokingly but it rubbed me the wrong way, and even then I think I waited 10-15 more minutes, and I would of loved to have eaten the dish in front of me with a glass of red. read more

This is my 3rd time here and it has consistently great food! The atmosphere always has a good energy and it's always busy! Today we had the burrata pie - which is a pizza with burrata mozzarella cheese, pistachio nuts and arugula. I enjoyed the unique combo. We also got the mussels that were outstanding-- large and juicy and super flavorful! The broth was the kind that you'd want to do more than just dip your bread in! (If I had a spoon, I would have drank it up like a soup!). The shrimp pesto pasta is another good one--my 2 year old's favorite! Oh, we also had the grilled romaine--grilled lettuce with Gorgonzola, bacon and leeks on it. Super yummy! The place is Kid-friendly, but doesn't sacrifice style. We order our drinks and the food but the food literally came out in 5 min so I am not sure if they made it fresh. I have been to many restaurants never had my food out in 5 min. I told the waiter that we are vegetarian I ordered Vodka Pasta and it had bacon in it. They took it back and brought it out in 2 min so definitely they are not making fresh. Second time there were few piece of bacon in my food so they literally took the bacon out and severed it again. Found Fire + Wine on Yelp, and there is a reason why this place has so many 5 star ratings. 1) Food is amazing. Seriously it is super good. (More on that in a moment) 2) Service is ON POINT. Not only was Lauren a rockstar, but the moment we had a dirty dish, it was cleared. Not obtrusive, but people were definitely paying attention. 3) They go out of their way to make you feel important. We mentioned it was our first time and Michael, one of the partners stopped by to see how our experience was going a little after the second small plate arrived. It was clear that he actually cared and wanted to ensure we had a great time. We also were torn between ordering the ricotta & honeycomb or the pork belly, and they surprised us with the ricotta anyway so we could try it after we had ordered the pork belly. (Both were amazing) They also had this way of making us feel like every decision we made was the right one. (Michael commented on the bottle of wine we ordered, Lauren + food runners commented on dishes... it was a nice touch. Not manufactured) Back to the food: We started with the mussels & crispy pork belly. (And then they brought the ricotta honeycomb anyway) Mussels were tasty but the broth was the star. Pork belly was more like a mini pork filet (not tiny chunks like many serve it), topped with a nice stone fruit compote. But the ricotta & honeycomb... Wow. I can see why they didn't want us to miss out. I almost licked the plate. Then we split the Regina Margherita pizza. Crust was good, liked the buffalo mozz but not huge fans of the cherry tomatoes. Flavor was too tart & they were not super easy to eat. Finished off with the panna cotta which was incredible. It had so many layers of flavor--sea salt, balsamic, and creamy vanilla bean. We also got the fresh rigatoni + sausage to go, but haven't had a chance to dive into that yet. If it's half as good as everything else, I'm sure it'll be incredible. This place has been on my "to do" list for quite some time so I'm finally glad I checked it out. While at the Taste of Glen Ellyn" and seeing the absolutely abominable food choices they were offering (very sad) at the fest, just could not see eating anything the fest had to offer. We happened to be strolling by Fire + Wine and decided now was the time to check it out. Kind of crowded, kind of noisy, but I'm OK with that. Had their octopus small plate, house salad, and also a pizza with pancetta and arugula. House salad was nice and fresh and interesting which is always a good start. The octopus was fantastic. Grilled just perfectly and came with arugula, roasted potato slices, grape tomatoes and a sauce that had some heat and zip to it which encircled the plate. We loved it. Was debating about placing another order of it but since our pizza was on it's way decided against it because it would be too much to eat. The pizza was a wood burning type which had a nice crust and a good balance of toppings. I liked how the pancetta was crispy and in nice sized slices instead of how some places crumble it up. The bottom of the crust was a bit scorched but was still tasty so we ate it all. Service was efficient and friendly. When the waiter checked up on us we told him about the crust and he was apologetic and said they could make a new one but it was not needed by us. I am definitely going back here because they had quite a few menu items that I would like to try. I am definitely going to get the octopus again because it was just great. I've been here twice now, and honestly the first time I went I really enjoyed it. I had the mushroom ravioli which was fantastic as well as the zucchini fries that were perfectly crispy. When I went yesterday I was incredibly disappointed. I ordered the vegetable oriachette which sounded good but was a huge mistake. It had so much pepper It was almost inedible. I didn't want to be rude and send it back, so I decided to make it more bearable and clear my palette, I would order bread (which honestly should just come with the pasta) it was burnt. It's disappointing because they do have a great beer selection and the atmosphere is nice but I was really let down with the food this time around.
