Be careful when ordering from humans here, I said I wanted the healthy value menu chicken bowl, literally read it right off the menu.. she didn't ask what kind of rice I wanted & I didn't catch that until handed the receipt, she decided for me I was eating white rice that day. She also decided to add a $5 charge for a side and drink, all I asked for was the bowl, again didn't realize I'm getting charged more for this until seeing the receipt.. then they give me a cup and only sugar drink options available.. food was fine, terrible ordering experience with the humans that seem more confused than a new customer.. I hadn't visited Waba Grill in years and had low expectations. I placed an order online and to my suprise there are many more customization options now. (Last I ate here was about a decade ago, different location). I was happy to see for a plate that beef and chicken were about the same cost. I like that there was more than just the Waba sauce as an option. I was able to choose my sides. I placed my order and was at this location in about 5 minutes. My order was ready about 2 minutes after I showed up. The employee was friendly and provided some more sauce. The food was a good portion size for the price and I enjoyed the meal. Is it the best food, no, but it was fresh and was what I expected. I was pleasantly surprise and I have another option near home and work. Oh man, I really wanted to like this bowl. The sauce is the only redeeming quality to help mask the taste..neither meat tasted fresh in any capacity. I think service was really good at this Poway sushi spot. It is fabulously decorated, and I loved all the anime everywhere. I wanted them to have a better tea selection, they served us bottled teas. I did not really appreciate that the entire table had to order all you can eat sushi. Note, if one person at the table wants it everybody has to order it. This was highly unacceptable as we all wanted to different things, because half our group wanted the all you can eat sushi - we ended up having to order all you can eat sushi. Also, the lunch price for all you can eat sushi on the weekend is the dinner price. Not cool as we barely had a couple rolls each. Been to this location twice now. Every time we go, the portion is smaller. Any other waba I've been to gives a generous amount to where the bowls are pretty full. I was very disappointed by the presentation, taste, and ingredients of the food here. I thought that it would at least be a step above Flame Broiler, but I guess that was too much to ask. The Steak Bowl was a conglomerate of 10% minced meat with a couple of tiny pieces of broccoli and 90% rice. It was an epic fail... The only thing good about the Chicken Bowl was the Boom sauce. The rest of the Bowl was similar to a fast food Yoshinoya Bowl from 30 years ago. The side salad was the worst of all... We asked for extra sesame dressing, and instead of putting it on the side, they actually added twice the amount of dressing to the salad. Needless to say, it was more of a soup than a salad. Completely inedible, so we had to throw it away. The only reason why I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 star, is due to their packaged Waba sauce. This sauce is like a combination of soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, and hoisin sauce. This was one of the few positive things that I could say about this experience, unfortunately. read more

My first time at Waba grills in years and it's just the same as I remember it, average food at a decent price. Food: I got the tofu plate to go and was surprised by the relatively large portion. The tofu did not have enough flavor and the rice was plain too so the waba sauce and hot sauce were definitely needed. It came with a small side salad and refreshing fresh orange slices too. Surprisingly, the folks in the YouTube episode really liked the tacos from WaBa, so I decided to try it. We ordered: -steak tacos -grilled chicken tacos -sweet and spicy chicken bowl The steak tacos tasted like bulgogi korean bbq. That was surprisingly good. I also liked how the chicken tasted fresh, not frozen. We ended up adding more salsa to the chicken for extra flavor, but I would definitely still order again. The sweet and spicy chicken bowl tasted like gochuchang sauce, but somehow the flavor balance was off. The chicken and veggies were well cooked though. I thought the prices were reasonable. I order two bowls and in one I found plastic wrap in my food and in the other bowl I found, I'm guessing, a piece of steel wool. My husband had the Chicken Bowl, and I ordered the WaBa Bowl, which is a combo of chicken and beef. It was ok. They offered sauces, and they list the ingredients on the back and whoa. Just no. This isn't healthy guys. I'm not a health nut, but if it's gonna be unhealthy - make it taste good, ya' know? Anyway, there's plenty of parking. Staff was ok (not rude, but not friendly either). Restrooms were clean. They don't seem to have covid-19 safety precautions in place. One dude walked in and ordered and waited sans mask. Tables aren't too spaced out. The customer service in this place was horrible. I walk in with my family and the menu (both screens) were off. I thought maybe cause it was 30 min before closing. I asked for the menu and the cashier said without looking up "it's broke" as she continued doing what ever it was she was doing. Then she asked me what do I want to order? How would I know as this is not a place I visit. She says nothing. So I go to the yelp app to look at the menu. Not one word from her. The customer service is terrible. I will never stop here again. Located in a shopping mall next to quite a few other restaurants, WaBa manages to do OK - which is also how I'd describe their food: Good for filling you up without spending "too much" - but not especially "remarkable" nor "worth" a special trip to get. This location has two nearly identical restrooms - except that the one with its door labeled "women" has a hand-written sign saying "out of order". I'm not sure if that refers to the plumbing inside or to "women". Either way, instead of denying women a place to wash their hands or "make room" for more food, this place should just remove the labels on the doors. There is no difference between the one toilet and one sink rooms, so anyone should just be "allowed" to use either one.... read more

I went here with a friend tolunch and I really enjoyed the lunch special which was a teriyaki chicken bowl that I had with white rice and a drink. For five dollars you can't beat that deal. The Waba sauce was excellent and like that they had extra condiments at the counter. I like that the meets are prepared freshly upon ordering. The staff were very friendly and this was a very clean restaurant. It gets packed during the lunch hour so come prepared to search for parking spot but expect to have your food in a timely manner. They don't have the spicy pork and with check in I get a free drink for that pork bowl so had to go with the steak and chicken combo. It's a franchise chain store so the quality is consistent with other locations. I believe that what differentiates between location is the staff. It's no frills and I opted for the grilled chicken with brown rice. Now if you are not in the mood for the regular stuff they do offer great specials and the selections does change. There's the waba, salmon, steak, chicken bowl. I do like the promise they make: We will always greet you with a smile. We will make your meal with the utmost care and speed. We will keep the dining area clean and tidy. We will listen to your comments / suggestions and respond.
