Firehouse subs catered sandwiches to my job. I had never had them before. Probably my new favorite sub shop!

From the moment we walked in, the two employees working didn't greet us or acknowledge us, and their demeanor made it feel like we were inconveniencing them just by being there. There's a big difference between basic customer service and true hospitality and this place missed both. There were also some frustrations with how orders are handled. The business charges an extra $2.50 for maybe a tablespoon of gluten-free granola, but doesn't adjust pricing if ingredients are removed or unavailable. I understand most businesses don't do this but it sometimes evens out when items are removed and unavailable. For example, I was told after ordering that they were out of coconut, which was supposed to come on my item. I was asked if that was okay, but realistically, what's the alternative in that moment? It just felt like another instance of paying for something I didn't receive. At one point, the employee preparing our order walked past us multiple times without acknowledgment to speak with her coworker, which added to the overall feeling of being ignored. A place inspired by Hawaiian culture should carry some sense of "aloha", warmth, welcome, and care. Unfortunately, that was completely missing here. We won't be returning, and that's disappointing because the concept has so much potential.

The menu is great, with vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options. They even gave my DIL a free smoothie (for her birthday). Overall, excellent, we will definitely be back when we're in Waxahachie.

Today's offense (and review) comes courtesy of the green goddess avocado toast. It was shockingly effervescent, but I didn't eat enough to do too much harm to my GI tract. I hope. The three bites I had (first two bites were just bread because it was a barren, sparse wasteland of "toast") were appallingly not seasoned, which is impressive considering green goddess is in the name. How you've managed to shame the simplicity of avocado toast is lost on me. I'm baffled, sad, hyponatremic, and hungry. What's good? The chips. Which I'll now just buy at a Dallas location when the mood strikes because the bitter, unseasoned disappointment in this location is depressing. Especially in this economy, yikes.

The entrance is a bit confusing because the restaurant is a part of a lovely but a bit pricey retail store. Very cute and I did buy a plastic bangle for $4. Anyways let's get to restaurant talk. After about a 10 minute wait we were taken upstairs to a loft area that overlooked the main dining room. It was a really fun view. We ordered the ABC dip and it was huge. Basically a delicious pimento cheese dip served with both toast and chips and a side of spicy jam. Only 7.50! We had a cooler so we took it to go. Then as you closely review the menu, you can order a half a sandwich and a half a salad for a very reasonable price. I believe it was like 13.50 I had their specialty the chicken apricot salad and it was good. I would've preferred it on the baguette instead of a wheat bread like my husband got on his turkey sandwich. I had the Greek salad which was delicious and he had the house salad which was also delicious, it was so much food! It's BYOB and I happen to have a cooler because we're staying the weekend and brought my wine in with me and I did feel a bit awkward but oh well they brought me a wine glass and there's a three dollar cork fee, but it was a screw top and they didn't charge me. The service was very good considering they all had to go up and down the stairs. Enjoyable visit highly recommend. shop the shop carefully you can find a few reasonably price items, but nonetheless, it's lovely
