These guys were so helpful in getting our fireplace upgraded from wood burning to gas. They have a great showroom with so many options. Got our fireplace upgraded last November just in time for the holidays and we have had a winter and early spring filled with nice ambiance in our den. The whole installation process only took about 4 hours from installing the gas line, putting in the gas logs, sweeping our chimney and painting the interior box. One visit to the Lisle showroom, and two visits by the company's sweeps (technicians), took a damaged fabricated wood burning fireplace to "like new" gas log fireplace to admire. We love the result! Our only criticism is the timeliness of their sweeps. Home visit one ran three hours late, and our second visit ran about 45 minutes behind. Communications around the delays could have been better. They were very accommodating when setting up delivery and no issue when we had to change our delivery date. We had the old, painted tile that was on the floor and around the fireplace replaced. We picked out beautiful tile, a coordinating hearth and a mantle. It looks stunning! The guys were very knowledgeable, respectful, and cared about the job the way we would've cared about the job had we done it ourselves. After we had this done, one of the HGTV personalities said that if you are spending money to update anything it your home it should be the fireplace. It made a world of difference in our home. Very poor and frustrating experience. I had $1000 in my pocket to buy a grill but Fireplace and Chimney Authority would not sell me one. Would have rated them one star but the sales person, Josh, was a nice man and tried hard. I wanted to buy a Napoleon grill from FCA in Lisle and was greeted my Josh - who as I said was a nice man but was not at all prepared to talk about Napoleon grills. To start off, the prices displayed on the grills were not the same prices Josh was quoting me which were substantially higher than the prices displayed on the grills - when I asked him to check on the discrepancy, he came back to tell me the prices DISPLAYED ON THE GRILL was incorrect. I was looking for a specific model 435 Rogue XT (black finish) which they did not have in stock but they had the same model in stainless steel for a $100 higher price which was OK with me (again, incorrect price displayed on the grill). The price was $949.00. They had a sign saying free delivery and set up on grills over $1000.00. I asked if I purchased accessories to get the total purchase over $1000 if that would qualify for free delivery and set up - Josh went to check with someone and came back and said, "no". I asked what delivery and set up would cost - Josh told me $250.00. Then I asked if I could pay $1000.00 for the $949.00 grill (which was displayed @ $899.00) and get free delivery and set up. Again, I was told "no" and additionally, even if I paid for delivery and set up, it would take several weeks because they were low on help. I then asked if I could buy the floor model which was already assembled. Again, you guessed it, the answer was "no". I mentioned to Josh that on their website, they promoted free delivery; he said that was only when ordering through the web site. My now, I was feeling very apprehensive about giving my business to a company who clearly did not want my business. So, I went home, ordered the grill on Amazon, got it two days later and set up assembly through Amazon for $90.00. So many small businesses complain about Amazon but this is a very good example of what is really killing so many small businesses - they are not willing to compete with Amazon for sales or service. I own a small business and work hard to support other family owned small businesses. It just was not possible with Fireplace and Chimney Authority in Lisle. Very happy with my new Napoleon grill. So far so good. We just had a fireplace and chimney authority install a gas insert in our previously wood-burning fireplace. The show room experience as you imagine was like valet service like you got at a car place. So far for us we haven't had any problems that some other reviewer's mention. No delays and in fact communication has been very good and everyone has been on time and delivered what was promised. The install itself was smooth and the fireplace so far is working great. Functioning is as described. It does take longer to heat up the room than expected, so don't expect miracles with a gas insert and blower. But still it looks great and works well. Installed a gas log set before completing the inspection of my chimney, only to find my chimney is not safe and I cannot use my fireplace. While the condition of my chimney is not FCA's fault, I'm unhappy that I've paid for a complete installation that ultimately will need to be removed and a reinstallation paid for. I'm a new homeowner - I didn't have the full history of maintenance (or apparent lack thereof) and was relying on FCA to let me know if the gas log conversion is possible. Further, after the tech threw out some very big numbers for a lot of work at the conclusion of our appointment, I haven't been able to get clear next steps or my questions answered by RJ in sales. He said he or the service manager would follow up after several emails back and forth that created more questions than they answered. It's now been weeks with no follow up. I'm moving on to an outfit that can answer my questions. One positive I'll mention was the techs were courteous and polite. read more

They were helpful, but not pushy in that decision making process. Our existing fireplace & chimney was inspected & measured to confirm that the insert & surround would fit properly. A Separate fireplace/chimmey cleaning was completed. The installation was done by Fisher & Roger. They were neat, efficient in that install. It was my first experience with Fireplace and Chimney Authority, I was pleasantly surprised when they were able to schedule an inspection of my chimney caps within 2 days of my initial call. John Manos was very thorough in inspecting the chimney and ductwork in the basement. Our two 30 year old chimney caps were rusted and broken. "You get what you pay for." We had an outstanding experience with this company. We shopped around quite a bit, and they were certainly not the cheapest; however, we are very pleased with the Mendota gas fireplace we purchased from them. They delivered exactly what they promised, and sooner than I had expected based upon some of the reviews written here. I likely could have gotten the fireplace installed a little cheaper; however, their installers framed it in, installed it, ran gas/electric, tiled, hung drywall, etc... in just over two days. Also, they showed up when they said they would. The installers very friendly, knew what they were doing, and were complete professionals. We decided to furnish our own mantle (not pictured) and saved a few bucks. I'm also able to finish drywall and paint, so I didn't have to hire that out. I really don't have any critiques of the company, but for future customers, remember to ask for what you want. There were times that the salesperson seemed to point us in a specific direction based upon his experience with other customers. We were very open with him about what we wanted and he was not "pushy" at all; however, I can certainly see how shyer customers might agree to things they don't want. Technicians were nice enough. Used them to properly vent dryer vent to the outside, clean fireplace and install a damper as flue was stuck. After install chain and handle were extremely tight and popped out of the bracket constantly. Looked up proper installation online and it was different than what they did. Called and spoke to Manager who stated that though it does not match the manual, this is how they install them. Tech came back out and loosened tension but did not run chain through center whole in bracket. When you use fireplace the chain and handle hang inside the fire or pop behind the back wall of fireplace. Guess I will have to check if I can unscrew the handle and run the chain the correct way. No complaints about vent install. Do not know about chimney, they did not tell us what kind of shape it was in prior or after cleaning. read more

I went to the Lisle, Il store to buy a Snuffer (lid) for the fire pit we had just built on our new patio. I checked around and $220 was a fair price for a 48 inch Snuffer. They said it would be made at their sister store in Elmhurst and I could pick up in a few weeks. I picked it up in late October 2019 and it looked good on my fire pit and although it a little flimsier than I expected, I didn't mind because I knew that made it easier to pick up. Well as you can see from the pics the paint started wearing off, and outer molding started peeling off, after just a couple months of a mild winter. I brought it back into the Lisle store to show them how it had worn down after only 7 months to see what they could do for me. I asked them if that's how they would expect it to look after only 7 months, and they all agreed it shouldn't be so worn so soon. I figured they would at least offer to replace it. I also told them I could use a slightly bigger (width) one, and asked if maybe they could give me some kind credit toward a larger one. I was completely nice about it and left it up to them. The Manager took some pics and said he would talk to the main store in Elmhurst and get back to me. He called back and to say they were willing to buy a can of paint and paint it, or give the can of paint to me (how nice). He also said that the outer molding was only for shipping and was meant to come off. Well I took a closer look and if it was meant for shipping then why wasn't it painted under the molding? Also the edge is so sharp under the molding you wouldn't be able to pick it up with bare hands. I was probably willing to accept the can of paint until they yank my chain about the molding. Bottom line is that this product was built with substandard materials and shoddy labor. I gave them a chance to stand behind their product and they didn't do it. read more

We purchased and expensive flat fireplace that hangs on the wall and an expensive "high quality" Napoleon grill (over $1000) since moving to Elmhurst IL. I need to tell you the customer service after the sale is horrible. We bought the grill 5 years ago and it is suppose to have a great warranty. (The first 5 years 100% and after that 50%). We have all the serial number and all the paperwork except the receipt. We have been trying for weeks to have them order the parts because most are covered lifetime so warranty date really doesn't matter. We found the credit card statement showing the purchase at their store. Fireplace Authority installed a new booking system and lost all records over 4years old. Very poor service. They installed an insert in my fireplace, which turned out to be a big mistake because it caused a very big draft. Repeated calls to have them fix it, or at least give an estimate to insulate the unit, were ignored completely. I had to call another contractor to install some insulation, which helped, but not entirely. This contractor indicated the chimney cap wasn't installed correctly, but the adjustments were relatively easy. Ended up spending another $2500 on insulation and repairs. To add insult to injury, they just called their 'best' customers to offer a deal on other products. I told them where to put their deals (reasonably politely). read more

We have had a gas fireplace for 10 years and it was looking "tired" and unkempt. I visited the fireplace and chimney authority to get some suggestions. They were great!They suggested a chimney sweep as a necessary maintenance (and to avoid a house visit charge) and then the technician could evaluate what we had and make suggestions as to how to improve our esthetic. They knew they could sell us a whole new set of logs etc., but in the end they simply removed all of our logs and reset them, replaced our old lava rock with fresh stuff and added fresh glowing embers all for a very reasonable cost. We are so happy! The fireplace is not only nicer looking but the way the tech set up the logs improved the airflow and increased the heat output. Highly recommend these guys! read more
