When Chicago Fireplace & Chimney did $5,200 worth of work on my chimney in 2021, I was very happy with the results. The installation looked solid, and at the time I felt confident recommending them. Unfortunately, my experience since then has been completely different. In June 2025, smoke began backing up into my home. I reached out to CFC saying: "It appears that a bird made my chimney her home. I believe they are gone now, but my house fills with smoke when the flue is open." At first, Sean replied with some questions, but after that communication fell apart. I sent multiple emails (June 13, June 28, and July 23) without any reply. When I finally heard back in August, I gave all the details he asked for along with my address and phone number. We scheduled an appointment for August 8, but no one showed. I got a last-minute message saying they might not make it and to "keep in touch." Then on August 20, I received another text apologizing, saying they were stuck on a big job and might come "tomorrow late afternoon (no guarantee)" or "sometime next week." Once again, there was no follow-up. After repeated no-shows, excuses, and silence, I had no choice but to take my business elsewhere. This was a serious safety issue with smoke entering my home, and the lack of professionalism was unacceptable. I am writing to warn others about my experience with Chicago Fireplace & Chimney. They are incredibly unprofessional and unreliable. Here's what happened: I scheduled an initial visit, They quoted the fee and They promised to deduct the initial visit fee from the final quote and repair cost. After the initial visit, they disappeared. I sent multiple emails to Sean, and called the office numerous times requesting a quote, but received no response. This is completely unacceptable behavior. They made special accommodations to work with each home based upon their needs and schedules. They even offered follow-up services if warranted. Our gas fireplace insert is about 10-15 years old. I honesty can't remember exactly when we purchased it. A few years ago the fan, which helps blow out the heat, started making a loud noise. So we turned off the fan, but our gas fireplace still works well. So this year we decided to check into getting our fan looked at. Originally we payed $2000 plus the tax and installation for this unit. So we called the Chicago Fireplace & Chimney Co. a week later a guy called to say he was on his way. It was after 7 pm, we were surprised at how late he showed up. The guy came in, had no idea how to operate the fireplace, asked us tons of questions as in - how do you open it, how do you turn it on, where is the serial number? My husband and I thought it felt more like a training session than a service call. In the end he informed us that our fireplace insert is old, that it needed cleaning, several times he mentioned that it should be cleaned "once a year"and that he had to go back to the office to find out how to proceed. We were billed $125 to have a guy spend 10 min. In our house, to take a photo with his cell phone and leave again. He never once broke out a tool, his cell phone was his flash light. Never even brought in a tool bag. This was the biggest waster of time, and money we have ever witnessed. We received an email to inform us that the fan would cast $475 to replace, then we received a second email to tell us that this fireplace has two fans and that both will cost $750, funny part is- there is no estimate for the cleaning he so highly recommended, in either of these emails. Here are some suggestions to this company, ask your customer to give the serial number over the phone. Ask your service guy to carry a real flashlight, and a real tool bag, and have him study fireplaces, give your customer a quick cleaning, to help your customers feel less taken advantage of. We will never call this company again, and suggest others don't either. read more

Super frustrating!! My husband and I are in the process of buying a house and were told by the home inspectors to have professionals look at the chimney. We made an appointment for this past Wednesday at 3pm and waited over two hours for them to show up - at 5:15pm. We called several times for an update on their arrival and their office only answered their phone once, said their team would be at the house soon, and said they would contact the team and let us know an ETA which never happened. We were told we would get an official itemized estimate on Thursday, Friday at the latest. We asked them to please be prompt because this was the only piece we were waiting on for our house contract. We heard nothing for two days, called repeatedly on Saturday along with our agent and attorney. They only answered once and did not return any voicemails. They assured us we would get our estimate by the end of the day, which did not happen. Monday (today), we called again several times, as did our agent, asking for our estimate and we were told we would have it by noon. It showed up in our inbox around 3pm. In the meantime, the sellers of the house hired a separate company to come in and survey the chimney, and were able to essentially get their own estimate in the six days it took to get ours from this company. We appreciate the work they did, but holy cow this was some terrible customer service and overall just incredibly unreliable. We had water staining on our interior walls That was damp and didn't know what was causing it. We knew the chimney ran behind that area, so called out Chicago Fireplace & Chimney to come out and look to see if they could determine the issue. Sean came out within a few days, looked everything over and determined that our 2 year old furnace and water heater was causing the moisture issue. The solution was installing a chimney liner. They sent out 2 guys to do the chimney liner installation. They were very professional and explained everything to us during the entire job. They also showed us pictures of the brick problems on the chimney outside. We have already hired them to do the brick repairs once the weather will allow that work to be done. This place often gets confused with the Chicago Chimney Authority. For the record, they are TOTALLY different! For the local area, I wish more people knew about this crew! I worked with Steve and Sean from Chicago Fireplace & Chimney Co and was treated 100% better. Everyone from the company was friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. We never felt talked down to or pressured into a sale. We did communicate often through phone and email, but was always tended to. I can't say the same thing for the other company I mentioned. I had agreed to the $100 service call fee. So, I knew I would have to pay that amount regardless of whether they could fix my fireplace or not. Two guys walked in; and, from the beginning, I could tell they were in a rush. That was ok, as rushing to get jobs done happens on work. One of them looked at my fireplace, which would not ignite, and kept mumbling "this thing is older than me...This won't work..." Finally, he concluded that I needed a new fireplace. But, that I was not to worry; because, he had the solution ! They sell fireplaces, starting from $670, but I would need to pay another $300 or $400 for installation. I was not happy with results of the diagnosis, but it seemed like purchasing a new fireplace needed to be done...having read the 5 start reviews of this company, on Yelp. A few weeks later, a friend of mine recommended I use another fireplace repair company. I did. And, their guy fixed my fireplace, in less than 30 minutes. I had used this company over the past few years to clean and service my wood burning fireplace. They always did a great job and never tried to oversell me on services. I decided last fall to convert it into a gas fireplace, with faux birch logs and fire glass. Joanne was amazing to work with, and seemed to truly enjoy helping me design the look. She gave me excellent advice and direction. She also didn't try to sell me extras that I didn't really need (like a $500 remote, that would have been just a luxury item, but not necessary). I felt she respected my money and my budget. She vowed to have the work done before New Years Eve, when I was having a small party. Steve came to my house to clean my fireplace and was at my house for about 15 minutes. The SAME day I tried to light a fire only to have the smoke fill the house so obviously it was not cleaned. I called Steve the next day and he did agree to come back. Steve came back with another associate and an attitude. This time they took about 1 1/2 hours to finish the job which tells me he didnt even do anything the first time he was at my house. He was rude, unprofessional, and disrespectful to me. Let me also add he also had the audacity to try to kick my dog when he got in the way . Like many other Homeowners with a fireplace issue just before the holidays, I contacted this company to repair and/or replace the gas logs in two of my fireplaces that would not stay lit. Upon contact, I spoke to Joanne, who was such a great help. She sent Steve and his team to assess both fireplaces. During his visit, Steve was able to repair one of them but found the other would need new equipment. This is the first review I have ever written, even though I go on yelp for everything. I actually live in CA and bought a house there in Chicago to fix up in Olympia Fields. Long story short when I went to sell the house the HOA required some repairs on the chimney. I could not find anyone to call me back or help and the one company I did were total scam artists. Luckily, then i found my ANGEL Joann. She came to the rescue in every way possible. Even went over and above having her guys drive almost 2 hours since my property was not in their local area! She kept me informed, sent me pictures, and I knew instantly she was someone that could be trusted!!! Called to set up an appointment for an estimate on chimney repair. We need a liner insert and want to convert from gas to wood burning. JoAnn said they would call back with a time. Never called back. I called about a week later and she was apologetic but scattered. She scheduled a technician to come out. When he arrived I had the distinct feeling he didn't know what he was doing and I never did receive an actual email/ estimate from him.
