Excellent dining experiences overall. I've been here about 5-6 times, and all have been great! The atmosphere is cozy, but classy. They have a nice bar area but I've only gone for mealtime. Meats and seafood are cooked perfectly. Their braised beef is heavenly - tender and falls apart on your fork. Their tomato bisque is also amazing, with a fresh and unique twist. They do get quite busy so a reservation is always great but not needed. Also their seasonal mixed drinks and seafood dishes are also quite good! Good for a date, or when the in laws are in town. All around great place. Pricing is moderate to moderately high for some dishes but very reasonable for others recognizing its fresh and high quality food. read more

I absolutely enjoyed every aspect of this restaurant. After going to Sight & Sound with my girlfriends we hit this spot. This place has a very warm feel with two dinning rooms. Our dinning area had a beautiful fireplace which made me want to come back to at Christmas and hang a stocking or two. Our waiter was very accommodating as he was a solo act dealing with 14 women He was very knowledgeable about the menu offering guidance when needed. I love mussels and ordered them as an appetizer. This was an app clearly meant to be shared because it was huge!! If had pieces of chopped garlic, sliced onions and red peppers resting throughout the dish with the most amazing buttered garlic sauce at the bottom. Super tasty Next up, Shepherds Pie! I was happy I ordered the half size portion because it was more then enough for me and I ended up taking some home. The bit sized cubed beef was in a stock that tasted like it may have had a splash of wine in it. I love how the wine and all the other flavors married so well with the beef and veggies. Decided to stop here after a visit at the Railroad Museum. We wanted something different besides the usual Lancaster "smogasboard" and picked here due to good reviews. I made reservations on Saturday for 5pm seating time on Sunday with no issues. We did arrive a bit late for our reservations but the restaurant was absolutely accommodating and made no big fuss about it (Thanks!). Waitress came over in a timely manner and asked for our drink selections, we were given ample time to browse the menu. They do have a decent beer list here with some different selections along with the standards so I was happy with that. The menu has a good selection of entrees, entree salads and sandwiches. My dad who is a picky eater had some difficulty finding what he wanted but settled on the fireside burger, my fiance had the catfish sandwich, my mom the chicken pretzel sandwich and I chose the crabcake sandwich. The food came out in a timely manner and was delicious. We each ordered fries (extra charge) but they piled them on the plate. My family thought the coleslaw was delicious (I dont eat it but they enjoyed it). The portions were generous and there were no complaints on the food at all. The crabcake sandwich while good seemed too wet to me but Im a marylander so I'm a bit picky with crabcakes. It had good flavor and some large lumps but it was not a jumbo lump crabcake. I'd probably pass on this next time and go for something else. Again nothing wrong with the taste its just a preference thing. Since it was my birthday we decided to order desert. Ice cream, pb pie and black raspberry ice cream cake. The ice cream is from the local creamery down the road and very delicious! The pie slices were huge and rich, big enough to share! The waitress was super nice and even put a candle on my dessert for me! Service was friendly, although at time our waitress seemed to forget some things but she was polite, helpful and personable so it didnt ruin our experience. I actually really liked the atmosphere of the restaurant, it was cozy but the noise level was controlled and not too loud and dress was casual. I would suggest making reservations if you are thinking about going because it was quite busy while we were there and having dinner. Stopped in for a solo early dinner on a Tuesday around 4:30pm while in town for work. Hostess right inside the door offered a friendly greeting. I chose to sit at the bar for dinner. They have an extensive selection of micro-brews (both on tap and bottled). I'm generally just a draft Yuengling guy (which they had on tap) but thought I would mention the other offerings. Bartender Jordan deserves 2 thumbs up for being very attentive to his customers as well as having an upbeat attitude. He was constantly on the move behind the bar filling drink orders for both those seated at the bar and the waitresses for the dining room as well as taking food orders for those seated at the bar. No one was neglected. Other bartenders take note! The food: I ordered the Catfish Jambalaya. The fish was seasoned well as was the dirty rice it was served with. The dinner side salad it comes with was decent as well with mixed greens and other veggie toppings. I'd order it again. Atmosphere: Looks like an 1800's farmhouse/tavern. The bar itself is nice. A few TV's behind bar. Maybe 10 stools at bar. Menu: You can check it out on-line. Not too big. Something for everyone. Just one minor beef: Happy hour is 3-5 PM. Only a handful of beers were half off for happy hour. Should be all or at least all drafts. I'd stop in again next time in town. Our first time visiting, but definitely not our last. Stopping in on a Saturday night after checking in at the wonderful Carriage House at Strasburg (upon their recommendation), we were surprised to be told it would be an hour wait. Since they had a bar, we were able to find seats within right next to a wonderful gas fireplace. We didn't wait a full hour which was great because we were quite hungry. The food definitely didn't disappoint. Delicious and filling, the stuffed mushrooms were amazing. My husband had the crab cakes which were very meaty and I had the most tender and perfectly cooked prime rib. Service was good and the atmosphere very nice. We will definitely visit again. read more

I ordered the catfish jambalaya over dirty rice with tomato sauce with Chorizo sausage on the side. Good sized portions, but I tasted nothing but the texture of the cornmeal breading. Zero taste. I did not finish it and did not ask for a box. I mean, what's the point. My wife had the sea bass which was about the size of a snickers bar on a huge plate. Also, zero taste. We had the beef tip hoagies, from the roll to the beef tips, were perfect, good quality and selection. This was our first time experience, and from our plates, and the plates we saw going to other tables, this place has a chef that definitely knows his way around the kitchen. This place was terrible, other than the desserts and the blue cheese dressing on my salad. There were 10 of us and we each ordered different dishes and one was worse than the next. My kids couldn't eat their burgers. My crabcake was disgusting, there is just no other way to describe it, well...maybe I can add mushy....I think my mother did like her shepherds pie, but other than that we left most of our food on our plates. My daughter could barely finish one rib and the filet was terrible. Now the desserts and coffee were excellent! The blondie with ice cream, the key lime and peanut butter pie were all awesome. Thank goodness because without it we would have starved through the show we were about to go see. Don't be duped by the four star review as I was, try some place else. read more

My parents live within walking distance of the Fireside Tavern and love it. We have been here for lunch and dinner and everyone seems to enjoy their meals. On our most recent visit there were 11 of us, including five kids. Our waiter was very friendly and managed to get all of the meals correct and out at the same time for all. I had a baked shrimp and crab dish that was served with mashed potatoes and green beans along with a small starter salad. My husband enjoyed his salad topped with steak which was well plated and tasty. My parents love the burgers at the Fireside. The kids menu is great and all of the kids in our party enjoyed their meals, from chicken fingers to mac and cheese. The only disappointing meal was my sister's prime rib meal which she found to be too fatty. The environment of the restaurant is warm and inviting. It's a casual place but also works as a nice special celebration spot. It's kid friendly without being like a typical family chain place in that there are kid menus but not kids running around like crazy. We will definitely be back again! It's nice to have a restaurant in Lancaster that isn't a chain or an Amish themed starch-fest place. (not that the Amish themed places are bad but it's nice to have options!) read more

Met friends here for dinner (first dinner; 2nd visit). Plenty of waitstaff but no one wearing mask. The tavern room was loaded with guests- every table full. My husband said his Braised Beef was delicious and our friends loved their burgers. Here's what we found to be just OK: crab cake (kind of ground crab, not lump), brie appetizer (ground crab on top w/small slice of Brie on bottom), and our fruit Crush cocktails (not sweet - we did not finish them). I think the atmosphere is very nice, but I just wasn't wow'd by any one thing. We also tried the tomato bisque (good), chili (good) and nachos (again- just ok). We all went home with a ton of leftovers. We order way too many appetizers! I think I'd go back for the burgers & a beer, but I will skip the pricier entrees. read more

We had the ravioli and the pork chop I'm a blackberry reduction. The ravioli was good the pork chop was a 10 out of 10. The waitress was a ditzy blond but was nice. We went there for our anniversary on a Wednesday night. We were seated at a small table flanked by 2 larger tables that were filled with families with children. It was so incredibly loud. I literally felt I was in a diner after a HS football game. It was crazy. The appetizers of Tomato Bisque and Smoked Salmon were better than the overpriced dinner entrees. The Scallops and crabcakes. The crabmeat tasted like it came right from a can and the scallops although cooked perfect had a basil pesto and basil oil. Way too overwhelming taking away ths delicate taste of the scallops. Ordered pickup. Took our name when we walked in. Food came out in a bag and set off to the side. 2 of the hostess stand personnel looked inside the bag twice and didnt ask. Bag sat 5 minutes until the younger gal noticed it was ours. Unfortunately we stayed at a hotel nearby so having no utensils nor napkins was a challenge. From Northern Virginia. Made the trip up for a play and stayed at the Strasburg Inn. This restaurant is always highly recommended. We made a reservation one month in advance for 9 people at the fireplace. We got there a few minutes early, so had drinks in the bar. Good beer selections, but very slow service. All folks sitting at the bar had drinks and bartender sort of did the "looking around the room" and not making eye contact. When we finally got service, he was pleasant. Table was ready - not in the front of the fireplace as requested and promised, but instead at a banquet-style table in the impersonal dining room. We are understanding, so no big deal, but certainly less festive than we anticipated. Menu very large which is always worrisome. Can a restaurant possibly do all these varied items well? Wait I can answer that - NO. All entrees served with the same things - mashed potatoes and asparagus. The salmon, the "tuscan" chicken, the beef tips....oh - and a quarter of an orange wedge. Really? Half the dishes are served with a balsamic glaze. Yes, even those where it doesn't belong. A cop out for the chef. We won't go there again. read more

Very pleased with my dinner at Fireside Tavern. Not being from the area, this place seemed like a true oasis. I did not expect such a fine establishment so far off the beaten path, but right on the outskirts of Amishville was a beautiful place. Warm and inviting, with fireplaces, a beautiful bar and an extensive beer list, oh my! First off, the staff was warm, inviting and super friendly. They started the kids off with a kids menu page/coloring sheet and a small bag of cheddar gold fish. Right away my kids were psyched. They have an extensive menu, across a wide range of prices--from soups and salads to sandwiches/burgers, up to impressive mains including meats, ribs, poultry and a few fresh seafood options. Even the kids meal included a side of applesauce which they brought out as an appetizer. This was a great touch, one that I wish more restaurants would employ. All too often a restaurant will bring out the entire kid meal at once. Brought out with the Aps, the kids are happy but the adult main features wild food filled children and very little enjoyment. Brought out late leaves hungry cranky kids that are either left to disturb everyone or stuffed with bread, hence ruining their mains. Who'd have thunk a simple applesauce main could solve that problem? As for our food, a couple of house salads served with a delicious in-house poppyseed dressing made for a nice touch after multiple days of amusement park food. The mains were very good as well. A pork porterhouse that was not overcooked as many a pork main are, served with sautéed onions and apples. Sweet and savory! The crab cakes were surprisingly good. Nice chunks of crab, baked not fried. Light, flavorful and very tasty--accompanied by both fairly standard versions of tarter and cocktail sauces. Our server initially forgot our side of onion rings which was a bit of a bummer. When they came, they were crisp, flavorful, piping hot and on point. No dessert tonight. If ever I return to Dutch Wonderland, this would be my dinner spot of choice, as its an easy 10 minute drive from there. read more

I wasn't happy at all with my visit. My wife and I were staying at the Holiday inn next door. We got a 7:30 outside reservation. We were seated quickly. We were not told about any specials, and our waitress couldn't answer questions that we had. She kept checking. Finally I ordered the Shepard Pie, and my wife ordered the apricot salmon. My wife salmon was a little over cooked, but she still enjoyed it. The Shepard pie was okay. When I ordered Shepard pie, I want that thick stew under the mashed potatoes. I didn't get that here. It was more like a beef soup, very thin and watery. Once our waitress, dropped off our food and we never saw her again, until she brought out our check. The serves was bad. The food was simply okay. I could see this being a restaurant that I would take my grandparents for their birthday, but that would be the only reason I would go back. read more

The best word to describe this place is average. The service was great but the food was meh at best. I've had prime rib sandwiches at other places and have rarely been let down, but then I came to this place. It was different, with one slice of prime rib placed on the buns, but it was nothing to rave about. The onion rings were good, but just like onion rings I could find at a generic chain restaurant. The fireside dream dessert was very rich and most people will probably enjoy it. All and all, if you are in a pinch it will do, but expecting something amazing? Maybe try somewhere else. read more
