Was pretty pleased with the experience in spite of the power loss that hit the restaurant and area when we dined there. I've actually never written a review like this, but I'm writing this one as a warning. This is the second time in a row that I've had lunch here, and the kitchen jacked it up. The first time, they charred one piece of fish, and undercooked the second one-- and they gave me a ridiculous ratio of rice to sauce. But at least, when that happened, the waiter was on my side and helped to resolve it. The second time--which just happened--the waitress had a combative attitude when it came to my complaints, and didn't resolve anything. My girlfriend and I both ordered the Bacon Smoked Salmon salad. Mine had a tiny sliver of a piece of salmon -- and the bacon was all chopped up and rolled into these "bacon balls." I would discover, after biting into one, that this was just because they'd scraped the bottom of the bacon pan, and those were chopped up pieces of bacon, rolled into balls with the bacon fat. You know, all that stuff that you dump out of the pan, after frying up some bacon--and then in a few hours it's solidified into grimy bacon grease. Yeah, that was all throughout our salads. I took mine back -- and the idiot manager was like a deer in the headlights. I had to tell him to remove it from my bill. And after I showed my girlfriend that her salad also have bacon grease balls, she stopped eating hers and became disgusted. But because she had eaten some of the salmon, they charged me for her food. Really -- they can run their restaurant however they want to, but if I was the manager, I'd have said "your meal is on me, and let me personally make you something delicious, on the house." But not that moron. No wonder their lunches are so terrible--poor management. Honestly, I think most of the good reviews for this overrated trough, are written by locals--and they either, have no clue what a decent restaurant is, or are writing good reviews to be nice. Fireside Tavern has so many things going for it, but is missing the mark on a few that seem so easy and would take it from good to exceptional. We dined on a weeknight with four adults and a toddler. We called ahead to make a same-day reservation and were seated promptly. The bag of goldfish my daughter got with the kids menu/coloring page and crayons was an awesome touch. Kids don't always understand waiting for food and the snack was a nice touch. Service was fine and the menu had a number of inviting options. Dinners come with salads and everyone at our table was very happy with them. Where we were disappointed was the actual food. For a place that recommends reservations and has a $20+ average entree (ours went from $17-$30), you expect fresh and, even better, local food cooked well. A filet mignon ordered medium well was cooked well done, the Kids macaroni and cheese was Kraft right out of the box and maybe reheated, chips out of a bag instead of house made with a sandwich. And outside the draft beer menu, little mention of local ingredients in an area rich with them. All in all an average meal in a nice setting that really could be so much more. read more

I attended the Fireside Tavern's St. supery Wine Dinner Thursday January 23, 2014. I have been to many of their wine and beer dinners in the past and they have all been exceptional. This evening event was no different. An evening of invigorating flavors that Chef Chad Rothfus and team have paired up with one of Napa's finest boutique wineries St. Supery. I will try and hit some of the highlights of the evening. The first course was a pan seared day boat scallop with spaghetti squash and a maple bacon reduction. The texture of the scallop was pin perfect which reassures me this tasty shell fish was prepared at it's freshest peak possible.The course was paired with St. Supery Sauvignon Blanc. This wine offered me honey suckle, buttercup and orange zest on the nose. Medium bodied and crisp,delivering a blast of ripe citrus and a long finish with loud notes of cantaloupe. The sweet and salty flavor of the bacon reduction offered this white wine opportunity to show championship qualities at the dinner table. The second course was a balm poached blue nose bass, English pea risotto, red cabbage chiffonade with an oak creme fraiche. The blue nose bass is a relative new comer to culinary line ups in trend setting establishments. The meat is moist and succulent with a sweet nature similar to grouper. Chef Chad hit this out of the park trust me. The wine paired was an oak free Chardonnay which supplied positive contrast with the oak creme fraiche. This Chardonnay offered lemon and pear on the nose, medium bodied ripe green apple notes and a hint of pineapple. Lastly a snicker of lime on the long finish. The third course a palate cleansing collection of candy stripe baby beets, field greens, local goat cheese and fig balsamic reduction. The wine selected for this course was the St. Supery Virtu. This wine is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillion. With French and Australian ancestors this wine offers some old world characteristics with new world charisma. At first take my pallet was shattered in half by the sweetness of the fig reduction and the lemon tart notes of this wine. The next bite included the the goat cheese, fig and beets with a swallow of the wine. At that moment I realized the goat cheese was the hero in this combination uniting all the features into total bliss. Again great job Chef Chad completely inspiring. The fourth course was the slow smoked Kobe beef strip, sweet potato grafits, carrot purée and bing cherry reduction. The wine introduced with this course was St. Supery Elu. This is an old vine Meritage red that offered smoked clove and dark plum on the nose. Medium bodied with notes of black cherry, earthy in character with smoke and black pepper on the short finish. The Kobe in my opinion was a tad undercooked and packed too much smoke flavor. Paired with this wine I can understand the intentions here however the meat lacked salt. Perhaps first rubbed then cooked achieving a crispy bark and more of an outside sear could have caramalized the outer layer of fat introducing salt into this dish. I wanted to eat the outside layer of fat however the texture was unappealing. All in all I still ate and drank everything except the fat. The fifth course was a dazzling duet of mousses, with milk chocolate and white chocolate. The wine chose was St. Supery Cabernet Sauvignon. I totally enjoyed the mousse and chocolate. I also enjoyed the cab, however my feelings were they never really made friends in my mouth. Perhaps the mousse could have been paired with an ice wine or ruby port. I felt the Cab was the only varietal left in the St. Supery line up so it landed last in the line up just so it wasn't forgotten about. In conclusion the Fireside kitchen team and staff go first class everyday and at every event. These events are extremely educational, adventurous and inspiring at the same time. I ordered the baked ravioli (half) and although it was filling, it was mostly sauce and cheese and 4 raviolis. It came with a salad before, which had a copious amount of dressing, which kind of defeats the purpose of eating a salad. But to each their own. Our server was very nice and checked in with us frequently. However, when we walked in, the guy who seated us seemed annoyed and was scowling, which was kind of a downer. This restaurant was awesome! Myself and my traveling companion both ordered the crab cakes and we were not disappointed. The crab cakes were filled with large chunks of crab and a little bit of filling. The dish also included the vegetable of the day, green beans, which were fresh not frozen or canned, delicious. The potatoes were mashed and also fresh. Nothing was over cooked or undercooked. What a change of pace from the usual choice of chain restaurants! When you're on the East side of Lancaster County - this is simply as good as it gets. I choose to take family and friends here when we have a high end get together. The chef is great, the management is amazing, and many of the servers are wonderful. The food here is absolutely awesome. We were in town for a soccer tournament and had a great meal here. Plenty of beer choices as well as food choices. Service was also a plus! Jeff did a great job being attentive and helpful. We had an amazing dinner here. First, we tried the teriyaki wings. At first. I was like "Aww, the skin isnt crispy. " We were totally wrong. The wings were perfectly crisly. Clearly, they use fresh oil in this restaurant. The side salad was so good. I know! It's just a side salad, right? What is the big deal? Well, i have never finished a side salad in a restaurant ever. It was so deliscious. The veggies were fresh, the lettuce crispy and cold as a salad should be. The rolls were warm and the butter was actually spreadable. I'll never understand why some places keep there butter like bricks. You cannot spread a freaking brick, People!!! Ok? Serve it at room temp. Again, Fireside knows how to do things right. For dinner, I had the crab cakes. Holy Sh*t they were good. Had just enough binder to keep the crab together. Otherwise, it was all crab. Serv3d with mash and fresh veggies. I cannot say enough about how deliscious these crab cakes were. If you have a chance to eat at the Fireside Tavern, take it. You will not be disappointed. read more

We just love Fireside! It's our go to family dinner restaurant, you just always know you are going to have a good meal! I went on Monday with my boyfriend's family. I always recommend the tomato bisque! It's just so good! Melted cheese and croutons on top, yum. I got the single crab cake, and it was seriously the biggest crab cake ever! Very little filling and mainly crab meat! It was outstanding. The meal came with mashed potatoes, sautéed green beans, overall delicious. My husband and I attended two catered events here for a conference. Both events went smoothly as far as we could tell. The food was great, we loved the barbecued pork and roast beef with gravy, and the drinks were good. Most importantly, the staff were polite and efficient. Took some out of town friends to dinner. Service was terrible from the hostess to the waitress. When we arrived the place was empty. We asked if we could sit in the bar area. As we started to sit at the table by a window we were told we could not sit there as it was reserved. Well we were there for over 11/2 hours and no one showed up. Waitress was not pleasant. Made us feel like she couldn't wait to get rid of us. Asked over 5 times if she could take our plates. Didn't even ask if we wanted coffee or dessert. We have been there in the past on many occasions and always had a good experience. The service this time was to the point of being rude. Everything was outstanding, but the server- Aimee- was the star on the Christmas tree, the angel of the day. Really unimpressed. The ambiance was lovely, the decor beautiful. Our waitress was HORRIBLE! Unprofessional and rude. She was slow, inept and unapologetic. She decided that we had had enough dipping sauces and, even though it was not listed anywhere in the restaurant, stated that we would need to pay for additional ketchup and honey mustard which although we agreed we would she would still not provide. She was aggressive and loud and then would not return to our table for the remainder of our meal. WOW! Our bill was nearly $100 and with that comes a responsibility to offer better than low class McDonald's type food and staff. If she worked for me that would have been her last shift. Visited the Fireside this evening Thursday 8/29/2019 with a 6:15 reservation because my sons birthday and he loves prime rib. We live locally. Service was a bit slow 15 minutes until we had our server Jay come over. It was busy so we understood. He was a good server and had several tables in the room we were sat at table 34. The biggest disappointment was our daughter has a gluten allergy and we ordered a cheeseburger on a GLUTEN FREE ROLL. The entrees came out and my daughter took two bites and said the bread tasted weird. So we flagged Jay our waiter and asked to confirm if the bun was gluten free. It WAS NOT!!!! so he came out with a gluten free roll. My daughter didnt feel well afterwards and we asked for two boxes and the check. I would have thought that they would have recognized their mistake and at least make an adjustment on the check - since thats a HUGE MISTAKE!. They didnt. I paid the bill and on the way out my family made their way out to the car. I stopped at the front desk to ask for a manager - The manager JAMES was the manager. He didnt get it. I said we ordered the GLUTEN FREE bun and all he asked was "so what was wrong with the burger??" Not sure how you can be a manager in the food industry and not understand the importance of a food allergen. I asked him for his name and said that I would just leave an honest review. I would highly suggest if you have a loved one with a food allergen go elsewhere. They dont care one bit. Its a shame when the Fireside first opened it was a great place. Now it just seems to cater to the tourists and they dont care for input from a local. SO now we left with my daughter who has an upset stomach from their mistake and any other establishment would have acknowledged the mistake and tried to make it right. LOOK ELSEWHERE. BEWARE. Maybe a review will make them look at their procedures or at least maybe save someones life. Management obviously doesn't care I gave them the benefit of the doubt to make it right twice. read more

Enjoyed this restaurant, it seems to be very popular as we had a long wait to be seated early on a Saturday night. The wait was pleasant enough in tastefully decorated bar that served specialty cocktails as well as a selection of draft beers. We enjoyed an outstanding soup of the day ( Curried squash soup with crab) , salad and then a couple of delicious entrees. ( Panko encrusted Halibut and Scallops with a Bacon Jelly.) The waitstaff was excellent with fine timing-- present just enough without hovering and eager to make us happy. Definitely will go back if in the area. read more

This place was recommended by our hotel as a local hotspot. We went and had to wait 30 mins despite the dinning room to the left behind by empty. They were taking all the reservations while my kids were going haywire in the lobby. They had the goldfish crackers to keep them entertained which was nice. I had the salmon w apricot sauce was was good. However, the apricot sauce looked like it was from a jar. The jasmine rice that came with it was not good, very mushy. It came with asparagus too which was ok and they brought me a plate of boiled green beans since i didn't like the rice. They were ok. My husband had the braised beef w mashed potatoes. The beef was bland and dry. Maybe it was what we ordered but not seeing why this place is so packed that reservations are needed. Maybe this is the best they have out here. I don't believe that this place lives up to what would be expected of a fine dining experience, the decor is superb, the food is average and the service was below average. My food was not hot nor was it flavorful. My mashed potatoes were thick and pasty, the crabcakes were undercooked although they did have a lot of crab versus filling.
