You can't go wrong with breakfast, be sure to get here by 8:30-8:45 to ensure there's no wait. They have a varied menu with lots of options but I don't like eggs so I usually stick to the pancakes. I like all the flavors and today I went with the blueberry and it was just right. I just get one pancake since it's literally the size of your plate and goes perfectly with a side of bacon and real homemade grits. They keep the coffee coming here and leave the coffee pot on your table so there's no waiting for refills. They also leave a variety of creamers on the table so you can self serve your coffee just how you want it. They do also have a lunch menu but I haven't tried it yet, I'll have to make a trip for lunch someday. Service is always fast and friendly and you can scan your receipt and pay via your phone or pay at the front counter so there's no waiting to pay. Decided on Firstwatch in Fairfax because it is a large facility with minimum wait time. Firstwatch do not take reservations. They use a wait list approach. We were seated rather quickly. The service was excellent, we had nine in our party and the server was friendly and responsive. The ambieance was family oriented with several large groups at other tables. The food was well presented with everyone generally pleased with their choices. Two notable issues were the cheese grits...was a two out of 5. Next time I will try the butter grits. I've been to several locations, but this was my first visit to the particular one. I went on a Sunday morning and expected a long wait time. The parking lot was packed. Walking up to the entry I could see a line of people waiting to be checked in. It took about 15 min to talk to the hostess. I joined the waitlist with a 45 minute quoted wait time. Update: I came back to this location and the service I experienced was significantly worse than last time. After our order was taken and the food came out, the waiter checked how the food was once and did not come back until 45 minutes later with the check. I had already finished my meal and was waiting for someone to check in on us for 25 minutes. Our waters were empty too. When the server brought the check he did not offer to bring a box even though I was clearly done and disapppeared again. We had to ask another waiter who was not serving our table for the box because our initial waiter just left. Our waiter didn't go over any specials and did not seem to understand English very well. However, our server was swamped and he was running around like crazy. Hope he gets some rest. What I liked is that there is a calorie count on the menu. I am on a cut nowadays and it was really helpful for me. The food was mildly flavorful. Crowded on a Sunday afternoon. Gave my name and telephone number for the waitlist. Was told 15-20 minutes. Over a half an hour later I asked how where we were in the line. They never texted us. Ordered eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and hashbrowns. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the hashbrowns were good. The biscuit and salmon they had under the eggs were ice cold. The biscuit should have been at least at room temperature or warmed. Not a good combination of warm eggs and cold biscuit/salmon. Also ordered the carrot pecan pancake. Be aware that the pancakes are the size of a plate. It was quite good. The orange juice also seemed fresh squeeze and was good. As is quite typical these days, it's quite loud in the restaurant. The service at this First Watch is usually slow, but this time, it was super slow. First off, the person who showed us to our booth asked us to follow him and then, he plunked the napkin, silverware and menu on the table and walked off, without the courtesy of looking at us. After waiting close to 10 minutes for our server, I asked the person manning the cashier if anyone will come to serve us. The server came about 5 minutes later. She promised us the food will come quickly as she will put a rush on it. NO, it took probably another 15 minutes. This time she said the kitchen was the problem. We didn't wait for her to give us our bill when we finished because we couldn't find her. We went directly to the cashier to pay, but, voila, she appeared when it was time to process our bill. I'm a sucker for early breakfasts at First Watch! I usually go to the one in Rockville Townsquare, making this day my first time trying this location. I secured my table online waitlist because we wanted to make sure we can be seated on a rainy early morning, we arrived there and got seated pretty quickly. The waiter we had was a very kind kid, who always checked on us and was helpful on getting my order right! I got their Smoked and Veggie Frittata, although requested to be made with egg whites instead of the regular whole egg way. It was very yummy and light! I wish I had more bread though hahah. My husband got their "Works Omelette" he said it was packed with the meats and enjoyed the pieces of toast with butter and jelly. The only drawback is that First Watch does not offer reservations, which is a bit of a disappointment for someone like me who values knowing I have a seat. However, the food more than makes up for it - the freshly squeezed juices, the chef's kiss scrambled eggs, and the huge pancake stacks are all impressive. I ate the Steak + Eggs Hash, a dish both an innovative spin on Steak + Eggs; and tasty. This family-friendly restaurant has an upscale, iHop-like atmosphere, and the complimentary coffee with cream, half and half, and milk options is a lovely touch. The staff at this location is very friendly. I am always greeted with a smile and they are very personable . With that being said , I feel like I have been kept waiting the last few times I have been there . I don't think the staff are in-attentive on purpose but I think they could be trained on how to be more efficient . The big issue I have with this location is that I have concerns about their cleanliness. This is the second time I had to ask for a new set of silverware because my silverware was not clean. You could see stains and a brown spot on my silverware . When I got a replacement set , it was missing a spoon. This is the second time this happened (including the replacement set missing a piece of silverware). This just shows laziness and it makes me worry about the cleanliness of the kitchen . The dish washers need to be trained better . While this review may seem critical , I have been here a number of times and love the food and the staff . When I went to the register to pay the manger asked how was everything? I explained that the food was great except the cold eggs.
