The summertime seasonal menu had a lot to offer, and I like/hate how they list the calories to see what you're in for. This visit wasn't so swell. Brunch with my goddaughter was interrupted by broken syrup containers and lack of attentiveness by our server. The food was excellent and the staff went out of their way to serve gluten free items to my date. I was also at this restaurant where Mary was complaining about the wait. She was angry she had waited so long on the Fourth of July Holiday. The restaurant was slammed. I also waited longer than originally stated but they were trying their best. He told her that he was sorry FIVE times and when her anger continued, he explained that his time given for a table was approximate. After more anger was thrown at him, he again tried to explain that he couldn't make the people already sitting at a table leave. We came to First watch after walking to a couple other places and not seeing a lot of variety on the menu. This place is located in a small strip mall reminiscent of the south (where everything was in a strip mall) and had a pretty wild west sort of exterior feel. Upon entering we were greeted by about 25 other folks who had arrived before us. It took about 20 minutes to get seated, but on the plus side, they had free coffee while we waited and a bunch of newspapers for reading - extra star for this! The type of place we were looking for was a more local sort of spot and what we ended up with was a Perkins that had a little more pizzaz - fewer geriatrics and more young groups, but Perkins-esk none-the less. A step up from Ihop and a step down from a place with more local flavor. Once seated we were greeted by our server who was very friendly and who made some good recommendations for breakfast. The coffee was decent and the orange juice good. I had the chickichanga - A delightful breakfast burrito with a salsa-creamy sauce on top along with fruit (4 pieces) and some potatoes that were quite good. The wifey had the bacodo omelette (bacon/cheese/avocado) and while it was okay, it's wasn't anything to write home about. Positives were service and chickichanga, the negatives were the overall quality of the food and the lack of character of the establishment overall. A good place to go with a group of people for sure, but when looking for somthing a little out of the ordinary, you can find other spots close by. read more

We were crazy enough to go during the major brunch rush on Sunday but were willing to wait. It was such a nice day we agreed to sit outside so we could get seated sooner. This place has definitely gotten an upgrade since the last time I've been here! In the past years, I did not find anything special or memorable about the food here. However, their new revamped menu has put First Watch on my list of good brunch places in KC! I ended up with the BLTE, a classic BLT sandwich w/ egg, monterey jack, and mayo, seasoned potatoes, and a hibiscus lemonade. I was definitely surprised at how tasty my plate was. My sandwich was filling and hearty, but not enough to put me in a food coma afterwards. The eggs were cooked perfectly and my bacon was crispy yet not overcooked. My potatoes were tasty as well. Unfortunately, they were a tad undercooked to my liking, but they were well seasoned and had the right amount of salt. The hibiscus lemonade was a great addition to my meal as it was light and sweet which offset the heaviness of the sandwich and potatoes. This is my second time coming to First Watch in Westport. I went for a Yelp event: Breakfast for Dinner and they had a four-course meal for us which was amazing. We loved every course served, and by the end we were so stuffed. Also, the servers were the best. They had the General Manager tell us that all the chefs that prepared our meals that night was the managers from other locations that came together for the special occasion. This was our third pick for breakfast after a long run through midtown KC. I first wanted to try The Corner Restaurant, but they were closed for the St Patty's Day Parade. Same with Baked. It took 15 minutes for a server to greet us and take our beverage orders. (Minus 1 Star). Once they found a server, everything was great. Fresh decaf, food came out quickly, checked on frequently. I had the Ham and Gruyere Omelet. I asked how much it would be to add mushrooms. $1.50. I passed. I miss the swisshroom omelet. They are always changing up their menu. The eggs were good. Potatoes a little rare, and multigrain toast was amazing, as usual. First watch is always consistent across all their locations. You know what you're going to get.
