I don't know why I keep coming to this place. There is always an issue. I always order the same thing, the works omelette with no mushrooms. It is described on the menu that it comes with tomatoes. Nine times out of 10, there are never tomatoes in the omelette and I always have to bring this to my servers attention. My last visit here, the manager came over to the table and addressed my concern. She told me that she talked to the chef who told her that the tomatoes were more of a topping than an actual ingredient in the omelette. I showed her the menu where it says it comes with tomatoes, and then topped with sour cream. The potatoes are always overly cooked and burnt. Even the omelette itself, is burnt. Contradictory to my first review, the food here now is always inconsistent. The servers have gotten much better though. We ordered pick up. The place was moderately busy. I had to repeat that I ordered from them and not an app to both people at the counter. They said it would be another min. An order came out a min later and was placed behind their counter. Since they were helping another customer, I assumed they would notify me if it was mine. 5 min later I ask if I can pay for my order, so I can grab and go. Turns out my order was sitting there behind the counter the entire time. Annoying but whatever. I check to make sure all my food was there and left. Got home and realized they didn't provide gluten free bread... and the wheat toast was on top of the meal for a wheat sensitive person. Someone else ate it. We ordered a hash with no onions... but there were onions in the smallest hash I've ever seen. The potatoes weren't cooked and the eggs were over cooked. The fruit that came with it smelled rotten as soon as the little container was opened and turned to mush at the first poke. That meal was pretty much a disaster. We used the app to join the online waitlist but still had to wait 45 mins when we arrived. The hostess told us they don't put you in the system until you are physically present. I understand why they do this, as many people will make a reservation and then not show up, but the app should notify you that this option is not available for this location. Just an FYI for those who are making reservations this way. So... today I decided to get food after my shift at the hospital. I called in an order. The lady told me it would be 10-15 minutes. She said there wasn't any tickets at the window. I said okay. Cool. I was already there so I waited in my car for about 13 minutes. When I walked in, there was no one at the register. I was okay with that. A man came and asked if I needed anything. I told him that I was waiting on my order. He went to "check on it". I waited... another lady came up to me. Told me that she would "check" on it. It actually took about 25 minutes for my items to be ready. When I tasted my market hash it was cold AND salty AF!! Like what?? Okay... I wasn't going to eat that... but I turned to the pancakes... and they are hard and cold! Like WTF???? Anywho. I never had this problem in my home state and I will never return to this place again. If you're looking to go to a nice brunch spot with friends and family, avoid this location at all costs. My group of 6 waited for 1 hour before we received any service after we were told it would be a 30 min wait and when we were seated it took 1 hour and 30 minutes before we received our less than satisfactory food. All our food was lukewarm, our toast was just write bread, and on top of it all our service was awfully rude. To top this all off, we were going to all split our bill. When we went to the counter to pay, it was taking the staff well over 15 minutes to figure out how to do this, so we insisted that we would just pay the full bill on one card. Staff adamantly told us no we should pay with split bills (?) Turns out when we put in a tip, we all put 18-20% because even though we did not enjoy our service we were trying to be understanding that staff makes money through tips. Well our 18-20% tips we gave were not of our individual bills but from our OVERALL bill, so we were all blindsided and gave anywhere from $20-35 tips individually. My family, friends and I had bad experiences at First Watch restaurant (Morris Plains) over the course of 5 consecutive visits. On 4 out of the 5 occasions, the food took a long time to arrive, with one instance taking an hour. In addition, some orders were served cold and had to be sent back to the kitchen, while others were incomplete or incorrect. These issues greatly impacted the overall dining experience and left us feeling frustrated and unhappy. I am absolutely shocked at the bad reviews of this place. this is my family's favorite breakfast spot in the area. the ambiance is great, and there is comfortable indoor and outdoor seating. they have fresh healthy juices that taste great too. Overall most of their items are healthy and have good ingredients but still taste good too. My favorite part of their menu is the seasonal items, they are always very unique. The vanilla chai pancakes were a must have. I also love the potato skillets, the potatoes are crispy and go great with veggies and eggs. I appreciated their selection of vegetarian items as well. I'm updating my last review which was 4 stars. It's terrible. We came for breakfast this morning. We waited 45 minutes for our Food only to be told that they lost our order. They took the whole order again. We then were told we would be the next thing out. 20 minutes later our food came out. AWful! The service has been consistently gettiing worse. Not sure how thEY stay open. Last review: We had breakfast here on Father's Day. The food was fantastic. I had a carnitas bowl which was done perfectly. The poached eggs were done just right and the pork was delicious. The bacon is amazing too - a must try. Love the app to put yourself in line ahead of time. It's not exactly accurate yet. It said to arrive at 9:30 And we got seated at 9 I do think the service could use some polishing up. Our food came out at different times. This place needs to get their act together! I've been to First watch many times and have always been happy with the food and the service. Upon arrival we were told there would be 30 min wait. Checking in they told us 20 more minutes. Checking in a second time we were told another 30 min wait. Help me understand. At first it's 30 min. Then another 20 min then another 30 min. Just be honest with people and tell them it's 1 1/2 hrs wait. This has been the most horrible service experience I have at at First Watch and I would warn people to stay away from this one. Overall food was decent. My food came out incorrect however every time my husband orders food.

We met our friends there this afternoon for a surprise birthday brunch. The surprise was on us! The servers were very nice and seated us right away. We ordered a few brunch drinks which were delicious and waited for our friends to come. Being Vegetarian this wasn't the best place to come to but we always managed to find something to eat. Mainly just trying to stay away from meat! We ordered pancakes, both my husband was looking forward to Cheating a little. So excited to see what we would get. When our pancakes arrive we both looked at each other and were so disappointed! We got two small lousy skinny pancakes. I guess that's where the phrase as flat as a pancake comes from! I mean if it wasn't our friend's birthday and if they hadn't asked us to come there to join them. I would have said something! For $10.00 it was a waste. We left hungry and so disappointed. I would never recommend coming here ever!! The best part was the free apples that they give out as your leaving!! I only give poor reviews when it's deserved and unfortunately this is one of those times. My co-worker and I were in the area and visited during the late morning and the restaurant was moderately busy. Inside was very trendy and there's outdoor seating in front when the weather is nice. We were greeted very warmly upon entering and it went down hill from there. We felt rushed from the moment we sat down. We had a waitress who wanted to turn her table over as quickly as possible. She literally wanted to take our order from the moment we cracked the menu. We had to tell her to come back. No exaggeration, approximately 1 minute later, she was back wanting to take our order. We sent her back again. Literally, one minute later, she was back again. We gave up. We ordered. We didn't have time to review the many creative dishes that we could've tried. We began with the million dollar bacon because the host had recommended it and it looked appetizing. The bacon was listed under starters but it came out with our main meal. They need to clarify that better. We asked for water and at one point we thought our waitress had forgot but it did arrive 5-10 minutes later. I noticed there was no "s" at the end of the word pancake on their menu. The menu described their pancake as "humongous." As I later learned, they were far from "humongous." I ordered the Cinnamon Chip Pancake with two scrambled eggs and chicken sausage. My meal consisted of one medium sized pancake with not nearly enough cinnamon chips. Any diner in New Jersey provided bigger and more pancakes. My scrambled eggs were cold. There was a chill on them when I ate them. Had they been sitting out waiting for a while? My co-worker's chorizo omelet came out cold as well. She had ordered gluten free toast and was given two pieces of bread untoasted. She sent the bread back and asked for it to be toasted. The much hyped million dollar bacon was disappointing as well. The four strips of bacon came out overcooked and cold. However, it was tasty. My chicken sausage consisted of 2 patties. They were ok. If you're a coffee drinker, they provide a pot of coffee for the table but don't get to excited because it was very average at best. There's a small bowl of flavored coffee mate packets. You have to dig really deep and hope you find a regular non-flavor packet. The service was not friendly and we always felt like we were being rushed. Our waitress slapped the check on our table while we were still eating and said there was no rush to pay. The prices were a bit higher than normal but remember you're not at a diner but something trying to be more upscale. There was plenty of parking in the strip mall parking lot. My wife and I went there for breakfast ( she had been there once before) she had poached eggs , she had them there her last time and they ruined the eggs. Last time they came out under done, she sent them back and they came out over done...... She gave them a second (actually third chance for the poached eggs, this time the eggs came out , 2 eggs one bowl, one hard boiled one over easy, she sent them back and ordered scrambled eggs they didn't mess that up. Bad. Bad. Bad. I'm not even sure where to begin. The host (very nice guy) seats my family at our table. As we're waiting for our waiter. A young male waiter begins berating the host for something and being incredibly rude. Weird, but we ignore it. After about 5 minutes, we find out that that young male waiter is ours. He was clearly on edge and it felt like any little thing would set him off, so we refrained from complaining about anything to him. All of our eggs for our dishes were overcooked. Our waiter never brought us creamers, the potatoes were so undercooked, and the restaurant is freezing! People were literally wearing their jackets as they ate. In all aspects, this place is not worth coming to. There are many other great breakfast spots around, so please do not bother to come here. read more

Had obviously written this place off based on my one experience. However, we went back this morning as my wife had a free entree coupon for her birthday. This time we got on the wait list via yelp before arriving. We got there and within a couple minutes were seated. No sign of "the guy" who drove us away the first time. Server came right away, and took our order after a short interval. The food came after an appropriate length of time, and was both appealing looking and tasty. I had the trifecta-- eggs with a very tasty banana granola crunch multigrain pancake. The wife had a skillet, which she said was tasty but a little oily. Overall the service attentive and the food was different from a typical breakfast place, and generally very good. On the way out, we talked to the manager, and relayed our positive experience, as compared with our first. She was friendly and advised that the "guy" who caused us to walk out was no longer there. Really wanted to like this place. I was so excited about the menu and we rushed over to have brunch here on a Saturday. Service was far from stellar, but I chalked it up to being open for only two months. Our server was Alexandria, and though she had good energy my guess is she doesn't have the information nor has been provided the training to really be able to give customers good service. Though she set the table for two she only brought one water glass out, and the other water glass came only towards the middle of our meal. My brunch companion has a nut allergy, and we were told the multi grain bread had oats and seeds, we weren't sure about nuts, so she said our Avocado Toast might come on sourdough bread, that didn't sound bad so we ordered the cornbread carnitas, the chickichanga, and lemon ricotta pancakes, as well as some juices. Food came out in a timely manner, but only my food got dropped of, and before I was even done unwrapping the utensils from the napkin, Alexandria came to ask how our food was; well, only half out order had arrived, and we still didn't have a water glass. Then, when my friend's food did come out, Alexandria said that bc the multi grain bread had "nuts" it might have contaminated the surfaces where they toast bread and so she brought our avocado toast on a slice of white bread. Not sourdough, and not toasted: a slice of plain, white, bread. We weren't aware of that, otherwise we would have ordered something else, but we were only told as the plates hit our table. Then as we were digging into our pancakes we found a hair. Since Alexandria never came back to check on us, we had to flag down another server to point out the hair. He took it and said a new one would be made, we also pointed out the avo "toast" and said we weren't planning on eating it, so they said the manager would come out. Having worked in food service for over five years I was hoping this would turn our meal around. But she came out to repeat back to us why the "toast" was the way it was and said "your pancakes will be out shortly," when we explained that had we known there was no way to toast the bread we would have ordered something else, she replied with "okay, so what do you want me to take off your check?" Quite honestly after that interaction, I just wanted to leave and wished we would have never strayed from our small, family owned, local restaurants. After she left a whole new order of pancakes came out, followed by our check with the avocado toast comped. We had wanted to try some other items, but clearly that was not in the plans of anyone else in the establishment. The table next to us also had some issues, we knew because the manager also went over to them and announced the hows and whys of everything rather loudly. Well...where do I start. This was my first time at First Watch and it is my last latch. The service was SO BAD. My mom and brother raved about how good the food is after their first visit a few days earlier. BOY was it a let down! We started out great, we were seated quickly (although others were waiting more than 40 mins b/c they couldn't clean tables fast enough) and were excited and ordered drinks. This is when the crap hit the fan. We ordered the watermelon summer drinks and it came out wrong-wrong size & wrong preparation of the drink. A complete miss. After a long wait, the server return- blamed the error on the staff. Promised to make the correction but never returned. After 30mins, someone returned with- still an incorrect order. After another 45min wait for our food order, two visits to the front desk, a conversation with the manager- who said she didn't know what was wrong with the entire staff. The order came out in 25 mins intervals. This was more than slow service, incorrect drink orders, missing breakfast orders, the wait, the disappearing server or the mediocre food. Everything was out of order: the front of the house & kitchen...all was in disarray. The manager finally had to comp the bill. This was thee worse food experience. Save your time & find another breakfast spot. Overall it was the worst experience I've ever had. I wouldn't go back. I won't go back. I shall never be back. I am ecstatic that First Watch has made it up to New Jersey, close enough to me to go for breakfast when I visit my son at school. BERGEN COUNTY WOULD BE MORE CONVENIENT FYI LOL. Anyway, I'm thrilled. We visited locations in Florida and Maryland and loved them. Today we went in and were seated right away (before 10am). The waitress brought us coffee and water and asked if we were ready to order. We told her no, we needed a few minutes. Well, that was the last we saw her. About 10-15 minutes later a different waitress must have seen the looks on our faces and stopped and took our order. My husband saw her go to our original waitress to say something. Our food was delivered by a third person and then the check was delivered by the second waitress. The first one never showed her face to apologize. The second one did apologize and we told her no worries, she made it all good. Our food did come quickly once ordered and was excellent. I ordered the traditional breakfast, scrambled eggs dry, with the chicken sausage option. It was perfect, with toast and potatoes. Two sausage patties too! My husband ordered the oatmeal, which he liked, and that came with a cranberry-orange muffin which he said was moist and delicious. I walked in to order breakfast to go. Very expensive place as they charged me 20 bucks for a plain waffle and a small chocolate milk. It took them over 20 minutes to bring the food out and they forgot the milk at first. The waffle was a bit soggy and cold as they didn't tell me they brought it out, they just put my order on a door dash shelf to sit there. When I left and got home I realized they also forgot to give me any utensils. So I had to eat with my hands like a caveman. Very nice staff, but absolute TERRIBLE service. They also ask you for a tip when you charge out prior to you even getting your food. I do not recommend this place. read more

Full disclaimer: This review is not based on the favor/quality of food, simply because we didn't get that far. Stopped into the new First Watch restaurant this Sunday morning at 9:00am. On this sunny and breezy day, I was quite relieved to see all the outside tables empty and went inside to the hostess stand to be seated. No one there to greet you when you walk in, even though easily a third of the tables were empty and a few still had dirty dishes on them. One of the waitresses stepped in for the hostess and took our names, but I thought there's no need to take a name with 30% of the restaurant empty, right? All they need is one empty table to get you in the door..... The hostess comes to the rescue and picks up a tablet to capture our information, as if to add us to a list. Slightly perplexed, I point out that a lot of tables are empty and most of the full tables, people already had food and seemed to be enjoying it. I add, "you're not possibly on a wait, are you?" and she replies (get ready), "We don't want to overwhelm the kitchen, so we're staggering the seat times". Oh, okay, because for a minute there I thought you were a RESTAURANT and serving people food is the only thing you do.... my bad. Seriously? Isn't this your problem and not mine? Great first and last impression. The hostess managed to do the opposite of what she's paid do and made us leave kinda pissed off with her response. I wish this place much success, but when you're in business to serve food, that should be your main focus, not having someone turn around and go to the Brookside Diner for breakfast as we did because we couldn't be seated at one the 11 empty tables within eyesight. Funny "this really happened moment", just as our food arrived at the Brookside Diner, I got a text telling me my table was ready at First Watch. What it should have read was "our chef has decided he's good and ready to cook and now you're worthy enough to eat here." It made us laugh, so not all was lost in our First Watch experience. If you're an out-of-work kitchen person, I would imagine you'd want to apply right away. At First Watch you don't have to worry about a stressful day, they will just pass the stress along to the guests, and you can enjoy a nice, leisurely day making food when it's convenient for you. I'm sure the reason for the long lines at Chick-Fil-A are because the kitchen staff are at Massage Envy taking a break from having to serve all those pesky customers for hours in a row....... read more

First impression is wonderful. It's so nice and modern inside and it's quite large. They also have an outside seating area as well. There's also no brunch places in Morris Plains so this was for sure needed. The menu is large. They have a little bit of everything from prices $8-$15 for an entree, which isn't too bad. They have a lot of hostesses and waiters running around, but it did open two days ago. I also am quite surprised how busy it is for them being open two days ago. I had gotten the granola sunrise bowl which is vanilla Greek yogurt, fruits, granola, and honey. It's super delicious and for someone whose not a fan of Greek yogurt, this made me happy. In Sept 4th, 2023, my wife and I walked into this First Watch. Rapidly we got our table. Two menus and a special menu were leave on our table. And after we had sit there for 15 minutes, no one bothered to ask whether we wanted coffee or anything else. So I asked a waiter whether they had service for me. He told me he was not the one serving my table and pointed to the one who should. But the one who should serve our table turned to the manager, talked with him. And the manager just turned around and continue to do his own thing. No service was provided; no apology was given. After we confirmed that we were being cold treated, we were totally pissed. We politely left the restaurant. As I exited the door, I really wanted the manager to know how we felt. So I turned around and gave him a finger. My wife and I were Asians. As I could see, everyone else in the restaurant enjoyed their breakfast were white. I accepted the possibility that was racial discrimination. Anyway, it was fine to me. My wife and I just drove a few blocks south and spent our money in IHOP. What we experienced in IHOP was totally different. Once after we got a table, waitress approached us and give us menu and coffee. As we slipped coffee, we read through the menu and made our order. The waitress came back a few times to refill our coffee and made sure our food was okay. I didn't expect much from a restaurant. That was all I expected. This was my first time dining at First Watch and I was unfortunately very disappointed. When I first called to check availability, I was told there was a 25 minute wait time. They took my name and number and told me I'd get a text when a table was available. 30 minutes went by and I called back to get an update. I was told there was no wait time and hasn't been for a while. I thought to myself "okay..." I live around the corner so I quickly headed over. I came up to the hostess and she told me it would be a 10 minute wait. I don't mind waiting, but I'm getting completely different answers from different members of staff. Very frustrating. I finally get seated, and the beverages were good but the food took forever to come out and when it did, it was flat out cold. You could tell it had been sitting for a while. I'm willing to give this place another shot since it looks promising and the menu looks delicious, but so far, not good. read more

Love love love this place!! I go here at least once a week for breakfast with my girlfriends after we drop our kids at school, and we look forward to our breakfasts each week! First, the food is amazing. Menu is so different than a regular breakfast place!! The seasonal specials are great and the juices are amazing! As far as the staff, we love them!! They know us and know our regular orders. So attentive to everything, always checking on our table and refilling our drinks. In a time where many restaurants are struggling and we have had long waits and horrible service at many other places, First Watch has definitely had their act together and given us service with a smile! The manager is awesome too. He and his staff always make time to ask us how we are and chat for a few minutes. You really feel welcomed when you are here! This place has really changed in the last few months. I'm not sure if management changed but I am very disappointed. The food is either wrong, cold, or both. The staff doesn't seem to care and I see a lot of people send food back. Last time we walked in the gentleman at the front said "It's an hour and a half, SORRY yeah it's long. Take care!" Sunday morning: expect very long waits! Husband and I checked in online to then check in again once we got there. A 10 minute wait turned into an hour 20 minutes. We left. Hopefully we get to actually try it on a less busy day. read more

This place was very crowded and very close to our apartment so we thought we would try it out. We added ourselves to the online queue and checked in at the time noted. We were told then that it would be an additional 30 mins thus defeating the purpose of the online queue. The food served is very subpar. It's something you can easily make at home. Most of our dishes lacked flavor. Service and presentation were sloppy as well. Bacon hanging off of plates and scrapping the table as the server places the plate down. I saw two people from other tables rip the prices of bacon that rubbed on the table and put it to the side. Plates came with all the food sliding to one side. It's not a fancy place I get it, but the food should be appetizing to look at.
