Went here for dinner on my birthday! We were seated right away for our reservation, and almost immediately had someone come over to serve us water and their house bread. Our waiter Jake came over and got our drink orders in quickly, as well as our food. It was a busy Friday night, so it was pretty lively but I liked where our table was because we could still hear each other. The food was excellent and came out pretty quickly. A great dinner that is a bit on the pricier side but I think it was worth it!

"May I refresh your Martini glass sir?" But of course! Honestly, I have never been asked that question but sure enough, my waiter had an empty and chilled martini glass in which he transferred the cocktail to the new glass. Roots? That is some high level service! I'm in beautiful Morristown and I'm looking for a great steak after work. Once seated, I tell my waiter this is going to be easy. I'd like the Dirtiest Dill Pickle Martini, a Cowboy cut steak and onion rings. Can you explain to me the difference in the two steaks? Yes sir. The dry aged 20oz is a choice cut steak. The other cowboy steak is USDA Prime steak. Well as my Yelp NJ buddy Bill says: Let's shake hands with beef! Prime will be my steak choice thank you very much. My cocktail comes to the table along with an amazing bread service, a hot pop over. The cocktail has vodka infused dill and pickle juice to make it dirty. I have never had a dill pickle martini but I was a fan after the first sip. Everything is going well and the manager comes over to my table. He introduced himself, comes to find out he's from Long Island? *Roots management, you have the friendliest people working at your establishment. Now my Rib Eye comes to the table. This is a huge cut of meat. I ordered it medium to rare and the chef cooked it perfectly. The steak has a fantastic flavor, it's a journey to meat heaven for me. The onion rings are another hit. Very addictive and I loved the presentation. I tipped well and said good night. Root's steakhouse, it was a pleasure to dine at your restaurant.

I've come back two more times now and ordered the cowboy steak twice with their butter. Delicious, cooked perfectly, and they immediately fixed an allergen snafu and it was like it didn't even happen. Can't wait to go here for another one.

Who says you always have to wait until after 5 p.m. to enjoy a steakhouse? Sometimes you have to feed your soul at lunch instead, and that's exactly what I did here. I grabbed a table outside, soaked in the sunshine, and people-watched while enjoying the atmosphere. Most of the full menu is available during lunch, but since I'm trying to stick to my summer version of a diet, I went lighter. The lobster cocktail was the move. Presentation? Five stars. Taste? Exactly what I needed--fresh, flavorful, and just enough to hit the spot without feeling heavy. Roots proved you can enjoy the steakhouse experience any time of day. I eat. I judge. The fork stops with me.

The service is great and the food is decent. Nothing spectacular or over the top. The prices are reasonable as well. It's a very loud restaurant but great location.

Fresh and delicious and large shrimp cocktail.

What a fun time we had at Roots Steakhouse tonight. Jake was our server extraordinaire and really helped make our holiday dinner celebration a special one. At 7pm on a Sunday, the restaurant was buzzing and very busy, as there were lots of holiday and birthday celebrations going on. Noise level was a bit high, but not too bad. Jake was very attentive and provided great recommendations throughout our meal. From the start, my husband loves ice tea and Roots has this great tea brewing system. What a treat for my husband that doesn't drink coffee. The popover was delicious and a nice touch to start of the meal. The lobster bisque i had was just OK... but my husband loved his onion soup. Shrimp cocktail and caesar salads were on point and don't sleep on the butter cake dessert. Yum! After dinner Curtis, the manager came over to say hello and check up on us. He was super friendly and warm and made us feel welcome. I'm not sure what the 3.5 reviews are doing here on Yelp, but this is definitely not a 3.5 restaurant. Enjoy the holidays and your special occasions at Roots Steakhouse, you won't be disappointed. It may cost a little bit more, but you're worth it. And Jake, thanks for helping make our holiday dinner a special one. We hope to see you again soon!

Came for birthday celebration, a tradition for the family. I got the chicken parm, amazing. Need to mention the popover that came first for everyone, that is SO delicious and devoured in seconds. Had fried calamari and raw oysters, amazing. Steaks tasted delicious. Dessert was on the house, selected the gigantic sundae with many toppings. Everyone enjoyed dinner, especially the kids. Servers were extremely nice and polite. Spacious with dim lighting. unfortunately, it is loud in the restaurant.

Met a friend at Roots in Morristown about a month ago, my first time there and it was everything I'd heard it would be. Started at the bar with a beer and he had a 12 year Glenlivet. About $30 for both with tip, typical for higher end drinks in a high end eatery. We proceeded to the table, and were greeted by a highly refined and pro waiter. This wasn't his first day on the job, not even his first decade by all indications. He was the perfect blend of attentive without being needlessly in our face. If you go out enough, you know exactly what I mean. we perused the extensive wine list (noting I believe it's #117 that is over $5,600!!) and settled into a nice $120 bottle of Cab that would compliment our beef choices. Served quickly, uncorked, cork presented for sniff test along with a well churned swill....and he proceeded to continue pouring once approved. Our ceaser salads came out quickly and were just amazing. They don't fresh prepare the dressing at your table like some high end joints, but it was fantastic either way. I don't need to see it, just let me taste it! My friend ordered the NY strip and I followed suit, it was perfect for the evening and I'd actually had a large ribeye earlier in the week at another area restaurant, so this seemed appropriate despite the fact it's not my typical go to. It was flawless, and a perfect size and done to exact temperature as ordered. We also ordered the potatoes au gratin, creamy spinach, and onion rings as sharable sides. I have to say they were simply the best rings I've ever had - completely and perfectly crisped, with no greasy texture at all and accompanied with addictingly delicious dipping sauce. I'm not always a spinach guy, but that was just fantastic and I couldn't really get enough of it. Potatoes were spot on. I'm including photos of all except salad, just forgot to capture that round in pictures. I highly recommend this establishment for anyone that wants a refined dining experience without pomp and circumstance. Neither of us wore a jacket, and many others were in jeans so there may be no dress code but the meal you eat will feel like there is one. My friend picked up the bill, and I offered to pay tip. Given the amount he recommended, I can back into the general range of our total tab and it was on point with Ruths Chris, Capital Grill, other similar steakhouses.

Worst customer experience ever at a mid level steak house. Had to ask all 3 times for a Grey Goose martini. I said no to bleu cheese stuffed olives and got them served. Martini was nothing special; it lacked alcohol and was pricey. Had to ask for bread take away; days ols popovers. The 16 oz ny strip was ordered med rare. Cooked med well. Also cooked extra crispy. The sides; whipped taters, cream spinach (meh) and cream corn were good. I was ignored the entire time at bar. I will never be back to any Harvest establishments. They must treat their staff awful. 0 out of 5 stars. I tipped $25 on a bar tab of $257. Terrible.

Our first time at The Morristown Roots. Parking was a drag but once seated that annoyance melted away. Service was impeccable. We started with oysters (East Coast), shrimp cocktail (colossal), Caesar a d wedge salads. All delish. Drinks were excellent. The cider old fashioned was delicious. Everyone got steak naturally. I had the 20 oz dry aged cowboy steak which was wonderful. Everyone else ordered NY Strip, Prime Cowboy and filet mingon. For sides we got brussel sprouts, cream spinach, pommes frites, and whipped potatoes. All super satisfying. Much bigger than the Summit Roots and more lively. I'd come back here again for sure.

The best dinner you could ask for.

Such a great experience. They definitely have an element of class going on. Some small things that stick out: they use a metal item to clean up the crumbs off of your table to keep everything clean, they fold your napkin if you leave the table, and they keep refilling your water even after you pay your bill so you don't feel rushed. The popover was EXCELLENT. I simply love a good popover. My espresso martini was lovely. And finally, my filet mignon was flavorful and cooked perfectly. The side of potatoes au gratin was delicious- it was not over or undercooked and the cheese they use is so tasty. My husband also enjoyed his meal. We had such a great anniversary dinner.

Tina's take: 10/10 Brought my boyfriend here for his birthday and the service and food was amazing. The staff all wrote a happy birthday card and were all wishing him the best. The waiter was very knowledgeable and helped us with our starter choices. The ribs were amazing! Our main dishes were superb and I could not have asked for a better night. The drinks were great as well. It is a darker cozier feel in the restaurant but everything was clean including the bathrooms. The desert was great at the end especially when we were able to sing. I would recommend this for any special occasion.

I could not view reviews of dishes, so had to step outside to take a peak. Cannot justify paying such prices for dinning in a tiny, dark space in half-basement in the middle of NJ. Just can't. The portions are generous, which is good. But the prices are still outrageous for the location and vibe. It is BYOB for alcohol. We walked in on Sunday at 6pm without reservations and by 7pm, the small space filled up. The $12 hummus was bad. Store bought hummus of the cheapest brand tastes better. Seriously don't understand how a hummus can taste so bland and meh. No seasoning? The pita that came with it was low quality--it gave my friend an allergic reaction right away [he has sensitivity towards poor quality flour products]. $44 paidakia--lamb chops--had 4 chops that were tender and delicate. Pasnip pure was bland and totally a miss--did nothing to complement anything on the plate. Barely any demi lace sauce--definitely on the dry side. Asked for potatoes to be sutstituted for brocollini, but the kitchen did not follow through with that ask, even though our waitress confirmed it was possible. $39 lamb souvlaki was a solid dish. Filling and hearty. Good quality meat skewer. Smoked eggplant puree had a very strong smoke flavor. Lemony potatoes had bright, refreshing lemomy flavor that we appreciated. Service is attentive and quick. Complementary toothbrushes in the bathroom were a nice touch--a star for this little amenity.

We have been here several times before and we are excited to celebrate this accomplishment. When we arrived, the restaurant did not seem to know we had a reservation. The restaurant was mostly empty, so there was no issue getting a table. Once we were sat, we were offered water but no other soft drinks. Bottles of wine were opened but there was nothing to keep the wine chilled. After being at the table for over 10 minutes, I needed to ask for menus. We needed to ask repeatedly for water and at one point, I went to the back of the restaurant to get the water for the table. It was hot in the restaurant and the music was loud. The music was changed erratically throughout the meal until near the end of the meal, when there was no music or ambience. So odd! The food received was delicious. There was an issue of my ordering the pork chop but being served a lamb chop. I know the difference! The staff insisted I was given a pork chop. I did not eat it. By that time, the other people at my table were done with their food. I went to speak with the server discreetly at the back of the restaurant in attempts to resolve my concerns. The server returned to the table several times to argue about what we spoke about and insist I take a dessert and drink wine. I did not have an entree due to the incorrect meal being served and the insistence that I was served the correct meal. I made it clear that this was a special event but there was no attention given to that, not even a 'congratulations' on her dessert plate. Ultimately, Chef Freddy's Table was generous with the amount they deducted from the check but that wasn't the point of our visit. The point was to have a positive experience to celebrate an accomplishment. I am so disappointed! Suggestion: Maybe not go there on a Sunday, call the restaurant versus booking online or just adjust your expectations if this is a special event.

First, overall I'd say the food was very good on all five visits. The first two nights, I had dinner here. On the first night, I sat at the bar and enjoyed a bowl of the French onion soup and the halibut. The soup wasn't huge for $12, but it tasted good, and the halibut was quite flavorful. I didn't realize at the time, but they add in an 18% gratuity, so tip extra at your own risk. On the second night, I ate at a table with two coworkers. I had the chicken paillard, which was a large portion and also very good. Service was strong at both the bar and table on consecutive nights. For the three breakfasts, I pretty much had the same thing every day...an omelette with a side of fruit. It also came with potatoes, but it would've been nice if it came with toast or something similar without needing to pay extra. Again, food was good. Service the first day was fine. The next two days, the older gentleman providing service couldn't have cared less. I (and others) would show up at 6:30, when they opened, but nobody would be there. We'd sit ourselves and then wait. Eventually he'd show up. It was difficult getting coffee too, as both days, my cup sat empty for a long time until I'd eventually flag him down. Everything was on his time. I would've given him little/no tip...if the 18% wasn't already added in. The rest of the restaurant...food and service...gets a 5. This guy gets a 1. I probably should've given this a 3, but it didn't seem fair to everything/everyone else.

There is also seating on an outdoor terrace on the second floor and a few tables in front of the restaurant on South Street if you're up for dining al fresco. It's a terrific option in Morristown that's sophisticated enough for a date on the outdoor terrace when the weather cooperates or a pre-theater meal in the dining room, yet casual enough for beers and appetizers while watching a game in the bar area. The menu captures the essence of modern American comfort food. Whether you're grabbing the Stirling Burger ($18) -- made from a tasty short rib and brisket blend -- or splurging on the Grilled New York Strip ($48) topped with crabmeat fries, the quality is evident. They are also great with dietary restrictions. Between the various poultry, fish, and vegetarian options on the menu and the kitchen's willingness to make moderate accommodations in any other dish, there's something for everyone. What really makes this place stand out, though, is the service. We recently celebrated my niece's 21st birthday here, and our server made it memorable by honoring her milestone birthday by playfully asking for her ID EVERY SINGLE TIME she ordered a drink. It became a running joke for the night and made the occasion feel extra special. The only reason it's not a full 5 stars for me is that both sides of the main floor can get pretty loud when it's packed and the prices are a bit on the higher side for casual dining.
