This restaurant is one of those places you think they have the potential to be great. The food i like disappointed me, the mussels and clams were way overcooked. We were there for the crab legs and was an okay experience they were over done the bones were not cracking. The sushi tasted gross. The fish dish had so many bones in it. I've lived in Virginia Beach for 15 years and never heard of this place. I now know why. We met some out of town guests who wanted to try the place for crab legs. When we arrived the host kept asking how many kids were in the party and what their ages were. No one ever really explained what that had to do with anything since there didn't seem to be any special pricing or limitations based on age. The waitress took the drink order. They didn't offer any type of hard ciders which was fine, but the waitress was obviously too new in understanding the upsell. After taking orders she then came back to let us know they didn't have any more baked potatoes. This seems like something they should have alerted wait staff to earlier. The chosen replacement option was effectively a twice baked potato but in a metal tin, so probably day old mashed that got covered with cheese. For $29 I got 4 stuffed shrimp and this side of potatoes and a trip to the salad bar. The shrimp were edible, though very oily. The waitress came back 1 time for the entire meal to ask if we wanted more water or drink refills and never asked if anything came out ok. When someone in the party asked one of the bussers for more soda it was clear that she didn't speak English well enough to understand. I don't fault that but she finally said she wasn't our waitress and walked away, but didn't make an attempt to find the waitress either. It wasn't busy and we stayed a while without being pressured to leave, but once the waitress got her check she didn't make an attempt to come back or help out. 2 stars really only because they let us stay to talk and I didn't get food poisoning. read more

We got our $34.95 worth from the oyster's on the half shell. The selection of seafood was okay but we chose this buffet over all the others in Virginia Beach because they advertised Clams on the Half Shell in ALL their ads....very disappointed when they didn't have them. I didn't understand why they weren't available since they were steaming the large Cherrystone clams???? Our waitress was terrible and rarely returned to our table to clear away the empty plates (we just put them on the table next to us) and when she did return she dropped a plate of shells right on my pocketbook and walked away--no apology and no clean up....when I got up for my next (several) trips to the buffet I had to step over the crab leg shells on the floor! We ate here to celebrate our fifth anniversary. So we decided to go with two appetizers - the mushrooms and the crab dip. We had the Norfolk Special and the Crab Cake dinner. All were wonderful. The servings were not huge, but we left stuffed and content. It was worth the price. The Pina Colada was delicious. We ordered two and shared the second. I first ordered a plain Margarita and had to ask for it to be remixed. Service was excellent and we'll definitely be back. We were there in April in the area was not very crowded. We saw advertised special for surf and turf combo at a pretty good price. The price was the only really good thing. We got four orders and shared them. The lobsters were small and generally inadequate. The "steaks"had acceptable taste but remind me more of a slice of thick him. We all ordered twice baked potatoes. It is obvious they have no idea what twice baked potatoes are. They were pathetic. The salad bar was very basic. However, we did have a crab dip which was quite good. The service was mediocre. Probably work out better not ordering an extra drink. They were very expensive for very casual lower-class place like this. It was okay just to stop in and try it, I would not go back. Buffet experience - not worth the price. Much of the food was merely room temp and clearly was not recently cooked/steamed. The shrimp and clams were cool rubber...no amount of cocktail sauce would cover that texture. Staff was nice and pleasant; atmosphere was so-so. Reminded me of a trucker diner in Breezewood. $31 suggested to me that they know the other good buffet nearby is $32 and they wanted to be cheaper. Honestly... What even. I noticed the place while me and my dad were driving and was super excited to have a seafood buffet for the first time ever. We got inside and was greeted by a guy with ZERO personality; I mean, it is what it is but it was a slight turn off. As We were getting seated we were walked past the FULL buffet tables full of, crab legs, fish tacos, cakes, etcetera, and not long after our waitress came to my table and said "Just to let you know we are only serving from the menu right now." ....... oh ..... what them crab legs doing then? I asked when it closed and she said "in 15 or 20 minutes" ....... IN 15 or 20 minutes? ....... I asked her to ask her manager if she could let us get some food, I wouldn't get a second plate or anything, I mean I can get what I need in 15 or 20 minutes ‍ she agreed and said that her manager was the one who said to tell us not to get anything from the buffet. She came back and said he said "no." ...... whet? Why??...... We realized this was going no where so We opened our menu and asked about a couple different options and everything was "let me ask" "I'll go see" "I'm not sure" finally we decided on what to order and she was lol "are y'all sharing?" And we were like yeah? And she was like "okay... there will be a $8.00 sharing fee" ..... girl .... get me my crab..... we ended up just getting two smaller meals equalling the same meal we were wanting. We love this place. Good food and good service. Recommend the stuffed flounder! I'm not a fish eater, this is the only fish meal I enjoy and look forward to every time we go to VA Beach. My husband and I visited Virginia Beach for the first time and had no idea where to get a good seafood dinner. Your restaurant was literally across the street from our hotel and you offered a coupon in the local coupon book so we walked over to give it a try. We were very glad that we did! The food was fantastic! Such a huge variety of seafood, salads, and desserts along with other foods. The waitresses were awesome, very on top of things and friendly. Was in for the buffet. The selections were excellent! I believe there was something for everyone. Even though some may say that $30 for a buffet is expensive, I truly believe I got my money's worth (especially in crab legs). The twice baked potatoes were delicious, the grilled squash was seared to perfection, Mac and cheese was gourmet. I enjoyed all the food I put on my plate and I was up multiple times. The server was friendly and prompt and she made sure our shell basket was empty at all times. The reason this place received 4 out of 5 stars for me is that it wasn't that clean. Windows were all finger printed and there was a dead fly on the windowsill and the servers shirt looked like she was washing dishes just before we came in. My boyfriend and I came here to eat since we have a tradition of going to different seafood places when we're at VA Beach. I've never heard of this place before, but saw them in a coupon book my hotel gave to us. I always look at Yelp for food reviews before I go to any restaurants, and I regret not listening to some people on here. When I first walked in, I wasn't greeted by the host or the manager. Already a bad sign. The host had a attitude problem and you can tell she hates her job. I asked her how long for a table and she said 20 minutes but didn't say anything about the no wait if you sit outside. I brought it up (biggest regret of my life) we were seated and we had to wait for our waiter to come before we were able to go to the buffet and fix our food. We sat there for no kidding you, 15 minutes, in the dead of heat! When she came, she had the worst attitude ever! I asked for 2 cups of water as drinks and she never came back for them till way later on. When I came inside to fix my food, I noticed food selection weren't many. Some stuff looked like it's been sitting out for the whole entire day, some looked decent, and some were "fresh?" I got the Mac n Cheese and it lacked flavor badly... it tasted like watered down Mac n Cheese... Mac n Cheese is very hard to mess up on so I'm surprised they're able to do so. The ribs had a decent flavor on it but was way too fatty for me. Too much fat and barely any meat. The hush puppies were good when fresh. They had a mashed potato kind of thing in a oval tin foil with cheese on top and while the mashed potato part was good, the cheese on top had not only a funny smell but it tasted like a combination of sweat + gym socks. Sour and salty... I'm surprised I didn't get food poisoning here. I think the worst part was the flies outside. There were about 20 flies flying around me and my food constantly. Every bite I took I had to swat a fly making my eating experience horrible. Some things I had to trash because the fly landed on it. The waitress never came out to check up on us and when she did the one time, I asked for a refill on our drinks and she came back 25 minutes later! It's hot outside, the drink is what keeping us "cool". Food was mediocre, customer service was mediocre, experience was mediocre. Way too overpriced. With tax we paid near $80 for two people, but if the food was good I can't even complain but as you can tell, everything was bad! I'm not sure where those that gave this place good reviews are eating at, but its clearly not at this establishment. I didn't think it was possible to have terrible seafood in Virginia Beach, but this place proved me wrong. For $37 each, the selection is lackluster. When I inquired about Military Discount, our waitress not only said no, but stated they don't do it because "the area is heavily saturated with Military". A simple no would suffice, her excuse as to why the company doesn't support our Military was unnecessary. The food is lacking in flavor, however the crab legs tasted as though they boiled them in salt with a side of water. Not only were they salty, but they were over cooked and rubbery. I expected the raw bar to be cold, but the food on the hot buffet was cold as well. The fried food was over battered and over fried. The oyster rockefeller was drowning in spinach. The mac & cheese tasted like 3 day old microwaved casserole gone bad. The crab imperial is actually made with imitation crab & lacked any flavor other than the taste of plastic. The loaded potatoes tasted old and were anything but "loaded". Our waitress mentioned a carving board, but the only thing I saw was a "do it yourself" mini cutting board with a charred hockey puck on it. The only thing that was slightly acceptable was the peel and eat cooked shrimp, but even those had no flavor. I felt as though I could have received a better dinner from a toddler cooking with an easy bake oven. That isn't all however. The dessert section was even more disappointing. If you're wanting soft serve, go down the street because you certainly wont find it here. The oreo cheesecake shotglass doesn't deserve even a second glance, because it surely wasn't cheesecake, baked or not. The chocolate chip cookies were worse than gas station cookies. The boston creme was more like a sliver of chocolate cake with mystery pudding. The strawberry shortcake wasn't the worst out of the selection, but its definitely not something to write home to grandma about. Our waitress filled our drinks once the entire time we were there, which I'm glad because the cups weren't the cleanest anyways. Neither were the tables, as we felt sticky once we left. Not even a wet wipe (which I had to ask for) could get rid of the gross feeling this place left us with. Overall, the price is nowhere near worth the horrendous experience. We are from Maryland so we know good seafood, especially when it comes to anything crab. I visited Fish Bones with my family on our trip to VA Beach. It was one of the worst restaurants we've eaten at. Nothing was made with real crab meat and none of the food was warm. The service was terrible. Our waiter never paid attention to our drinks. It was like he didn't want to help us. The only thing that was decent was the steamed shrimp, but it had VERY LITTLE flavor. Very disappointed. We went there hoping for a nice dinner. The hostess and waitress (Logan) were wonderful!! The owner, not so wonderful. We also ordered a huge bucket of seafood and a greek salad, which were excellent. The crab dip was not good at all. Logan told the owner we did not like it and were not happy but he refused to take it off the bill. Because of the owner I can only give one star. we should have known to stay away when there was no line to be seated for dinner. Everywhere else there is a min 30 minute wait. Honestly, I was pretty excited to come here. It was our last night here and we wanted to go somewhere a bit nicer. We went to the á la carte portion of the restaurant and I ordered the Delmonico steak with fried oysters and the double baked potato. From the top, the steak I ordered rare and it came completely cool. It seemed as if they had made it first and let it sit the entire time. The fried oysters were hot in contrast but tasted as if they came out of one of those plastic bins you can get at Walmart not to mention the cocktail sauce that was half solidified. The only good part of the meal was the potato which I could not imagine anyone getting wrong. The date got the grilled chicken salad. The chicken was obviously frozen and the day old produce was drenched in oil and vinegar to the point of complete sogginess. Perhaps it was because it was the off season but that's no excuse for a restaurant with these prices. P.S. The one star was for the waitress, she was pretty nice. read more

Our family of four dined here on the evening of 4-3-15. The buffet seemed popular, but we weren't too impressed, especially for $30.00 per person price tag. The majority of the items from the buffet were under seasoned and overcooked. The sushi was the highlight, and even those choices weren't very authentic. My husband and I ordered the shrimp alfredo... no bread or side accompanied this $19.00 meal. The small bland portions were overcooked. It seemed as if the only seasoning was very large parsley leaves. A particular frustration was the cook's refusal to substitue different side instead of french fries. The food was kind of just okay and they water their drinks down..a lot. Pretty pricey for what they have.. Definitely not worth over 30$ a person. Aside from that, our service was AWFUL. Our waitress "Haley" was very rude, very slow, and was obviously not wanting to tend to us and it definitely showed. Was definitely the worst service we have ever experienced. When we were leaving and was asked how our experience was, we told the manager about how poor our service was and he replied back with "Oh, the waitress you had is just shy." 1 of my top favorite seafood buffets in Virginia beach! Food was awesome! I had my little cousins with me and they are such picky eaters, actually they just don't eat! lol.. Well, this place definitely changed my opinion of that! They enjoyed it to the fullest (made me proud). Everything was delicious! I absolutely love their crab imperial. The owner Mike is the best! He is very humble and down to earth, he truly made us feel like family. Funny enough we met Mike at this restaurant and we sparked up a conversation and realized my family and I have been going to fish bone for almost 20 years. We will continue to support them until they decide it's time to retire! Also I must say the staff is amazing, they work very hard and still manage to be so pleasant and attentive-overall always a great experience! The only reason I gave Fish Bones at Surfside Inn on 12th St. at the Oceanfront in VB 1 star is because the steak was edible. The lobster was awful..like eating a plastic lobster...freezerburnt!! I DO NOT reccomend this place. As a local, I usually stick to the non-touristy places & now I know why. I was enticed to try the DINNER FOR for 2 for $26.95....never again!
