    Its 5 O'clock somewhere.

What a great spot down in the beach in Va. I had consistent good food and drinks. I ate there for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Pancakes were great. The seafood dishes were flavorful and filling. Bloody Mary's were a treat as well. I look forward to my next visit.

My grandson and I were in VaBch for a Alastair summer vacation trip. After an evening of swimming in the Atlantic, we were hungry and this spot was only a short walk down from our hotel. The ambiance was good and there was no wait time to be seated. The service started out good, but then a few issues occurred which dampened the experience. First, we waited a good 10 minutes for the appetizer to come out and then it was cold. It was sent back and an hot order finally came, but then the entrees were still not out. It seemed like an enormous amount of time to get the food out. I guess this was because they were within the last hour of work; not sure. The manager did compensate us on the cold calamari and apologize for the slowness. If not for the fore mentioned issues this place would be a 5-star vice a 3 on this visit. The food was actually good and very tasty, and the drinks as well. I guess it is better not to come close to the closing hour.

Well I'm not going to give them a bad or good rating. There were things that gave me the feeling or mixed results, the service , and workers were extremely kind even the Host I had a small talk with and found out he's from Belarus, while getting seated. I was visiting the beach for the first time so i was ready to have beach vibes and good food. Unfortunately the food was not the Best tasting. The Crab legs were very underwhelming and lacked season/flavor the menu says a different crab leg from the one you actually received, and the Alfredo was completely made with cheese the entire dish reeked of cheese I couldn't take more than 3 bites before ask for a box just to be courteous but i didn't actually plan on eating it later. The drinks were $18 for a simple margarita that was a 2/5 on taste as well. Overall if I return to the beach I don't think this will be a stop I will be back for.

Food was decent. Portions are small, but the fried shrimp came with one small scoop of potatoes and one scoop of vegetables. It served the purpose, as I was late to eat.

Enjoyed our happy hour at Jumpin Shrimp! Outdoor patio was nice and staff provided fans to keep bugs away. Restaurant was clean and played good music. Our waiters was super sweet and answered any questions that we had. Oysters were fresh and the wings were sooo good! & the margaritas were just right!

Thursday 8/3/23 4:53pm Jumpin Shrimp Ocean Front I decided to try Jumpin Shrimp because they were the restaurant at the hotel I am staying at. They have an average rating. I was waited on in about 2-3 minutes. This was fine because I already scoped out the menu prior to arriving. I ordered a Cobb salad and a cup of She Crab Soup. It's actually a little chilly in Virginia Beach today. The atmosphere is family friendly and they offer outdoor seating as well as indoor. Food arrived quickly. The She Crab Soup is very good w/ plenty of crab in it. the salad is as good with fresh ingredients. Prices were not too bad either. It's a 4 stars for me!! (I Previously rated this restaurant 2 stars) She Crab Soup is consistently good!

Baja Shrimp Tacos were the perfect pre-race meal!

We were so glad to find Jumpin Shrimp on our last night in Virginia Beach. It was about a half mile walk along the boardwalk from our hotel and was such a great find. I had the Baja Shrimp Tacos and they were SO good and had great toppings on them. It was the perfect pre-race meal before my half marathon. They do have inside and outside seating, but the night we went it was pretty cool out so we sat inside. We will be back again for sure when we come back next year!

Shout out to Sky Bar for bringing the igloo culture to Virginia Beach!…read moreNow if we could just keep this trend going in Spring/Summer... May I recommend a possible bungalow rental, just like your igloos? Can you tell Summer is on my mind? Sky Bar is one of my favorite places to go. I love the trendy, upscale atmosphere, but they still keep you grounded with their prices being fair & reasonable. They usually also have happy hour, when Sky Bar is actually Sky Bar, not their homemade winter wonderland. I'm going to highlight their igloos though, only because it's something seasonal, and new. You get an igloo reserved for up to 4 of your closes friends, and the igloo comes with: -personal server -decorated, social-distanced space -two heaters -blankets you can take home -waters -and honestly so many picture perfect opportunities. The food on the menu was also amazing, and I am all about experience, so I would highly recommend the s'mores kit. It makes the atmosphere seem more bonded, it's a warm winter night where you are able to do this, and the s'mores kit just set the tone to be a little more perfect. They have their signature drinks, or regular drinks to order just like a bar as well. They also do offer non-alcoholic beverages if anyone was wondering, wish also makes it kid-friendly! Nothing in the igloo was breakable either, which was nice not to worry about. I wish there was a little more space, to maybe have up to 5-6 people. Either way, I loved it. I loved the experience, and I can't wait for next Winter to do this again! And that says a lot, because if you know me, I hate the cold. But I will face Winter if I know I'm going here!

I also tried to order a French 1605, and while they didn't end up having all the ingredients, the bartender was still completely game to make something off-menu and clearly knew their spirits well. Always appreciate a bartender who actually understands balance and flavor instead of just reading recipes off a card. We also ordered the deviled quail eggs, bulgogi lettuce wraps, and potstickers. Everything was good, though our other table ended up being ready way faster than expected, so we had to take most of it to go. One small PSA: the menu calls them "jumbo" quail eggs, but quail eggs are tiny creatures of nature to begin with, so don't walk in expecting chicken egg-sized deviled eggs.

Arrived around 6:30 and were able to get a table but it filled up fast. Host noted we were probably new bc Tuesdays were usually familiar faces; love to hear that locals love a place too! We ordered the Buffalo Mushrooms as a starter and let me tell you, it's worth the hype. The crunch on these things is legendary. The sauce is a little spicy but it won't blow your palate out. Also the portion is enormous. We wanted to save our appetite for our mains but just kept eating them. We got the monthly special burger which was the kimchi burger with Brussels sprouts on the side and a wagyu meatball sub with fries. Dear lord that burger! I am trying to remember another burger that I loved this much. The kimchi was cooked down into a bit of a compote which melded with the cheese and gochujang perfectly, the patties were crispy as hell! The bun added a perfect sweetness. I told the server it was "stupid". I almost cried. This can't even capture just how good the food was. I'm sorry. The Brussels sprouts were a little understated, kinda like creamed spinach at a steakhouse. They were delicious but overshadowed by other menu items. The meatballs were spicier than we expected, so if you like a spicy meatball, get after it. The best thing about the sub was the pesto sauce on top, which added a nice green brightness to what was an otherwise heavy sandwich. Good luck picking this monster up, we needed to resort to knife and fork! The fries were on point. Whoever is running the frier at Esoteric has the temp dialed in. I wish we had room for dessert but we were already bagging up most of the sub and fries. The portions here match the prices. Would love to eat outside here when it's a little warmer. If you are looking for a cute spot in the vibe, don't miss Esoteric. We for sure will be back.
