The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating in a clean, modern space with beautiful Japanese decor. The service was slow but the food was good. My friends and I shared the Chirashi Bowl, the Surf & Turf Signature Roll, and the Tororo Roll. Everything tasted fresh. The Tororo Roll was my favorite. I'll definitely be coming back just for that roll.

The hamachi toro was incredible. Buttery, soft & so fresh. The tuna rolls were also nice, the sushi rice was made very well & I appreciated the attention to detail on the plating. I wasn't a huge fan of the cucumber salad, I prefer a traditional thinly sliced cucumber salad over this chunky one. However presentation was lovely, and the dressing was delicious. The cocktail was not good, I think it sounded fun on the menu but it wasn't for me. My server was so attentive & sweet, overall a nice little location with a patio.

I ordered takeout from here for the first time last week. It was super easy to order, and when I arrived, it was ready to go. The takeout bags look way nicer than what you see at other restaurants. For food, I went with the Misaki roll, and the Torrey Pines roll, they were both really good - super fresh fish, and flavorful combinations. Misaki roll - inside has snow crab, spicy tuna, avocado, and cucumber, and outside had bluefin tuna, and tobiko. Torrey pines - snow crab, avocado and shrimp tempura inside, with salmon outside. Will absolutely be back to explore more of the menu!

We had such a lovely dinner here! We were running an hour ahead of our reservation, but they were kind enough to seat us immediately. It's not easy to find a place where the adults can enjoy a great vibe while the kids are happy, but this hit the mark. The fresh sushi and sashimi were delicious, and having hot plate options for the kids was a lifesaver. Everything we ordered especially the Toro tartare, was perfection. The real star of the night, though, was our server, Anthony. He was so attentive and knowledgeable, and his recommendations were excellent. His service was a wonderful bonus that turned a great dinner into a memorable one. Hats off to the whole team & thank you Anthony for the great service experience.

Our foursome reserved an outdoor table on Fish Boon's pleasant patio and were looking forward to some sashimi along with several other items that sounded great on the menu. What we ordered: * Egg Rolls: Delicious. Lightly fried and very tasty. * Chicken Hibachi: They accidentally brought steak instead of chicken. The diner didn't want to wait for a replacement and accepted the steak, but found it chewy and didn't enjoy it as much. * BBQ Ribs: Tender, tasty, and a bit salty. They initially brought miso soup instead of the included salad, but corrected it quickly. * Nijugo Sashimi Platter: Fresh and very good. The salmon in particular stood out. * Seaweed Salad: Good. * Sushi Rice Bowl (side): Good. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner. There were two service mix-ups: the miso soup instead of salad (which was quickly resolved) and the hibachi steak instead of chicken. The diner chose not to wait for a replacement but found the steak somewhat chewy. That said, the sashimi was fresh and tasty, the BBQ ribs were tender and flavorful, and everyone liked the egg rolls. We'd be happy to return.

Beautiful restaurant, awesome decor, wonderful servers, thoughtful lighting, and fun atmosphere. We've heard sooo much about Fish Boon and couldn't wait to try it. We sat at a cute table and were lucky to get a seat without a reservation (it was 5pm on a Sat). The table had a cute personal light on it - I need a couple of these! My absolute favorite thing about the night was the little purse holder they put next to my chair (see my pic). It was SUPER cute and SO smart! It's the little things! First came out a dinner salad. It was just lettuce and a drizzle of dressing - no carrots, no slivered beets etc ... it was ok. Funny, I usually LOVE the starter salads at sushi restaurants. This was just underwhelming. We got the veggie tempura for a starter - I was impressed at the amount on the plate as well as all the different vegetables. They were really yummy. I chose the Miso Black Cod ($33), which the waiter says was a great choice and really good. He also said it takes a bit longer to prepare (to me, that means 'Get ready, this is gunna be GOOD!') Well, I was actually pretty disappointed, especially for the price (and time). I think my expectations were too high. On the good side: the texture was really really lush (melted in your mouth), but it had no taste (even with the lemon wedge) and I found myself dipping it in soy sauce/wasabi over and over just to get my taste buds a rise. It came on top of four asparagus, which definitely needed more salt (and char marks?) as well. They were just 'eh'. The cubed potatoes had no flavor AT ALL. I was super bummed - I ate 2 then stopped, just not tasty. So sad. My husband had the steak teriyaki. It was very impressive looking with literally a pile of juicy steak atop a mound of cabbage. I had one piece of his and was quite disappointed - it didn't have much flavor and had me looking for the salt (only soy sauce on the table). I didn't have another piece, wasn't worth the calories unfortunately. For dessert we had the Mango Strawberry Cake. It was very cute and pretty tasty. We also got the Fried Ice Cream. I had seen a picture on Yelp - it was the green tea ice cream but ours came out just vanilla. Oh my gosh, it was SO disappointing . The ice cream had no vanilla flavor, it was really blah. And Fried Ice Cream should be freshly FRIED (warm). This was most likely fried hours ago and kept in the freezer. The crust was chilled and didn't have any taste. We ended up eating the ice cream and leaving the 'fried' part. I'm probably tainted by the Mexican fried ice cream, which is always to-die-for. Maybe the Japanese version is just something I don't like. Now I know. So basically, my husband and I have been wanting to come here for weeks and I've heard nothing but great things about this place. The restaurant's always full and I've known a couple friends who have said they've had fantastic food here. I'm not sure what happened tonight and I'm so sad that I didn't like it as much as I was expecting. I love tasty, flavorFUL food and I just felt like the dishes we had just didn't meet our expectations. Fish Boone needs to up the ante. They needed more salt, more flavoring and more love. Again, this is just my experience ONE time eating here. Who knows, if I go back, I'll get totally different dishes and maybe I'll have a completely different experience. Fingers crossed.

I had the chirashi bowl along with some fatty tuna nigiri. The chirashi bowl not only looked amazing, but tasted just as good. It came with nice, thick slices of salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and albacore, plus shrimp and some roe. All of the fish was incredibly fresh and high quality. Tamago is usually an afterthought, but even that was surprisingly good. I enjoyed the chirashi bowl so much that my son and I came back the very next night. This is now our go to spot for sushi in Carlsbad.

Fish Boon is a great place for fresh and yummy sushi. We came in on a weekday later in the day where there wasn't many parties inside. The interior is very nice and loved the decorations. The food and drinks were great but the service was super slow. We were tucked in a corner so our server probably did not see us but we made eye contact many times and he never made the effort to come and check in. We asked for the check and it took 10 minutes until I decided to stand up and pay for it at the front desk. They also charged us 10 dollars for a bottle of water which they never mentioned. The karage was delicious and crispy. The batter was light and chicken juicy. They had many options for rolls as well. The ones we chose had great quality in the fish and loved the spin they put on them. I would probably come back only for takeout. The service was unbearably slow and it felt like they were purposely ignoring us only. There were other parties being taken care of multiple times while we were just waiting.

This little gem in Carlsbad is awesome! The fish quality is excellent, whether it's nigiri-style sushi or cooked dishes. I had the nigiri sushi, and my companion enjoyed the baked salmon - everything was delicious! The service was exceptional. Victoria H. was our server, and she was friendly, patient, knowledgeable about the menu, and on point! The ambience was cool, clean, and modern. They also have outdoor seating, but we chose to sit inside. Kudos to Victoria for making our first visit extraordinary!

Del Mar ($16.95) - This signature roll came with spicy tuna, avocado, shrimp tempura, and salmon with their "boon sauce." The highlight was the salmon, which practically melted in my mouth and had such great flavor. Everything in this roll went so well together. If you're looking for spicier, I'd go with the El Diablo Crunch or Hot Lips next time.

Been wanting to try this place since they opened and did not disappoint! Ambiance was great, food was amazing and service was good for being short staffed. I came into Boon with my fiancé. Finally we get a night away from the kids, and this place did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in... we were greeted by the friendliest servers I've met in a long time. Krista was her name. We ended up being sat in Oscars section and he did not disappoint. Food was top tier. Freshest fish I've had in north county by far! Ambiance is amazing and the vibey mellow house music they play makes all the difference! 10/10 5 stars without a doubt! read more

We came last night to celebrate our 4 year wedding anniversary. Alfie gave us such a wonderful experience! He was thoughtful, humorous and attentive. The king salmon was UNFORGETTABLE: silky and decadent. LOVED the unique twist of the new cajun appetizer. I'd seen numerous photos of the padre roll posted online and it did NOT disappoint. The soy wrapper works as a lovely, airy binding element, and the fresh fish is the star of the roll. My husband LOVED his diablo roll. We cannot wait to be back! Beautiful addition to the Bressi ranch area. Finally a good sushi spot with fresh sushi. When you walk in it's beautifully decorated and everyone is nice and helpful. Service is especially attentive. We love that they have real crab options. My fave is the albacore but their salmon roll is really good as well - fresh! and I'm picky about salmon sushi. I always get a salmon skin hand roll - one of those things that I feel you can't mess up and they made it perfectly. Even a basic Philadelphia roll is delicious here. Really enjoyed lunch here. The fish quality was great! Everything we ordered was phenomenal. We ordered th O-Toro(melts in your mouth), Waygu (delicious!), Tuna (incredible), Padres Roll (great flavors) and rainbow roll. Service was excellent. Super cute space and the food is good, we had miso soup, the sashimi sampler and a couple of rolls. Even the shrimp tempura in the crunch roll is raw which is unexpected. The staff was gracious and helpful and remade it, cooked, for the friends who don't eat raw fish. Definitely worth trying! read more

I am so happy Bressi Ranch finally has a good restaurant. I did enjoy Ebullition which was here before but once Chef Gunnar took off it became just pub food. The whole complex has just a bunch of commercial chains that do the job if you must eat, and the corner Pizza addition is nice, but this entire corporate center is just filled with the most mid restaurants. until Fish Boon came along. The fish is so fresh and quality, ambience, service, Asahi on draft. They have real crab rolls (for extra) Nice to finally have a solid restaurant that we don't have to drive 20 minutes to. This place is about the equal if not a tish better than Blue Ocean in Carlsbad Village. read more

Gave this place another shot a couple of days ago. This place is just... off. The owner or manager whatever he is, always looks stressed, and it sets the tone, everyone else seems on edge too. They're constantly understaffed, like they're trying to save money. The food isn't authentic, and the Korean dishes are a "jack of all trades, master of none" situation. To top it off, the space is cramped, tables are jammed so close together that servers and guests can barely move around. Also, there's no way other 4-5 star ratings are genuine. Relatives/friends or paid?? It's just impossible. read more

We have not found a better sushi place than Fish Boon since relocating to Oceanside 2 years ago. Service is very good with polite servers and sushi chefs. Sushi is exceptional with pretty good amounts per order. Pricing is roughly the norm regarding other sushi restaurants cost. Try their hand-rolls for sure! read more

My family and i went in for a nice dinner night out on saturday and we loved it. We were sat right away because we had a reservation and our server Jay came over seconds later after being sat to drop off our waters. He was super friendly and made our stay even better. Food was coming out quick and it was super tasty; we had a flew rolls and also the ramen. Our favorite was the Padres and Lemon roll that Jay suggested us to order. This restaurant is beautiful inside. The service is friendly and the food is delicious. I ordered the Hibachi Chicken which came out steaming on a skillet with a side of rice. My daughter enjoyed a variety of sushi and surf and turf rolls. I reserve a star because I asked if the Hibachi chicken had mushrooms and was told it did, but that they could make it without. I then said, yes, I would like the Hibachi chicken without mushrooms and it came with lots of mushrooms. The server took it back and they expedited a remake which was delicious. read more

Okay, so this place is a 10 star out of 5! I have been to all the better sushi places in San Diego. This place is far better. I never say this, but THE BEST! When we were seated, the host walked us through the menu and explained the sourcing of the food and what was fresh and popular, etc. All the staff took great care of us. They operate like a well oiled machine. The atmosphere is great and the food is just fantastic. New favorite. Definitely come here! We will be back often. read more

My server Jay was amazing! super attentive, friendly, and made us feel genuinely welcomed and appreciated from the moment we sat down. He checked in at all the right times, made great recommendations, and made the whole experience even better. Our absolute faves were the rainbow roll and the chicken hibachi he recommended. We came here yesterday for my birthday with a reservation for six at 7 PM, which we made a week in advance. My husband and I arrived around 6:40 and let the host know we were waiting for the rest of our party. I asked if we'd be seated outside since it was chilly, and the host, sounding annoyed, said that parties of six or more are seated outside. At 7 PM, we checked in again, and he told us-rudely-that it would be another 30 minutes. When my husband asked why, given we had a reservation, he just repeated it without explanation. The whole interaction was unpleasant, so we decided to leave. read more

Stopped in here recently for lunch and thought it was great! Owned by the same owner as Love Boat in San Marcos (but not the Oceanside location). Fresh crab in rolls, not just imitation is a plus. Upscale but small interior seating. Plush, low bar seats are appreciated by this short patron! Nice patio though it's just looking at the parking lot in Bressi Ranch. Pics next time, and there will definitely be a next time. Saw the complaints about waitstaff. We thought they were great and personable. No issues there for me and actually would compliment them on the servers! read more

I was driving around somewhat lost and ran into this place with an interesting name. I thought, why not. The place is open and welcoming. My server, Maddie was very friendly and attentive. She provided excellent service. Thank you!!! It was a a bit chilly and I opted for a bowl of tonkatsu. It was delicious. Plenty of noodles, healthy pieces of pork and the egg was perfectly cooked. The broth brought it all together and when the bowl was empty, I found myself wanting just a little more broth. I don't normally order rolls, but needed a little something more to fill me up. The salmon and avocado roll was smaller than rolls I've seen before. It did its job. The ginger and pickled cukes were fresh and refreshing. I wanted more of it. This was a great find and I definitely recommend the place. read more

Terrible food poisoning, This place almost killed me. I went for a birthday dinner and when I returned home 2-3hrs later and everything was purged. I'm was so sick. I will never return This was the only meal I ate that day. Please be careful if you decide to visit this location. I emailed the restaurant to advise them of the situation and no response. read more

My husband and I love this place. We've added it to our list of date nights when we're craving good sushi. We always sit at the bar. Best to make reservations though, they get busy at times so call ahead but we've not had any trouble getting seated each time. Their service is prompt and friendly. You never have to wait around for drinks or tab, they are on it. We had their Real Crab Rolls -- all are amazing! My fave is the Misaki roll.. so good! Possibly THE best and freshest sushi I've had in San Diego. Great ambience and decor. Definitely a regular now. read more

San Diego sushi spots usually fall into two categories: cheap and forgettable or high-end for special occasions. The food is delicious and so fresh. The quality of the fish assortment is outstanding. The decor is beautiful and the wait staff is kind and courteous. Finally made it to Fishboon. Ambience is great! Our waitress suggested the tartare toro (pictured) which we ordered. ALL the sushi we ordered was super fresh. We loved the Misake roll and the Del Mar roll, in particular. Everything was excellent. We've been needing more nice sushi options in Carlsbad other than just Blue Ocean (also great!). Took the wife and kids to Fish Boon on New Years Eve for lunch and it was delicious. We got the calamari and gyoza for appetizers, and they were both good. The breading on the calamari was probably the best I've had and it was not greasy like many other places. Our girls got the chicken teriyaki, and they loved it. My wife and I split speciality rolls and they were good too. Our server was very attentive, and he service was prompt. The owner was also milling around helping out here and there, and he was very nice as well. I highly recommend this restaurant! read more

Yes! It's a yes. Definitely delicious, fresh, flavorful sushi. Their options were incredible. They have sushi, sashimi, poke bowls, ramen and other dishes. I was so excited to see Fish Boon open up in the area. I ordered to-go around lunch time and the food was ready pretty quickly. I had a California hand roll, a roll with salmon on top, and some sashimi (tuna and salmon). While the sushi was good, I don't think it met the expectations I had for the price point. It was nothing special and very average in terms of quality. With so many other choices around the plaza, I don't see myself gravitating towards Fish Boon when there are so many other restaurants. I know they are new so I will probably come back and try in a few months but as of now I am a little disappointed. read more

Our original server, who I believe said her name was Noemi or Naomi, came across as overwhelmed, stressed, and like she didn't enjoy her job. While I understand restaurants get busy, her attitude made us feel like we were an inconvenience. She wasn't very attentive, especially to our kids, who had been at Legoland all day and were extremely hungry. She never came back to take their food order, and we found ourselves waiting longer and longer without any communication. Eventually, another server took over our table. She was incredibly kind, friendly, and apologetic. We explained that we had already been waiting a long time and just wanted to place our food order to go so we could get our hungry kids back to the hotel. She handled the situation professionally and did her best to help, which we truly appreciated. If you're dining with young children, I'd keep in mind that service may not be the best fit if your family needs an attentive server or timely service. Waiting extended periods without updates can be especially difficult for tired, hungry kids. We tried the sake flight, tuna tostada, toro tartare, Toro Exquisites, king salmon roll, mackerel sushi, and Del Mar roll - all were fantastic! I don't know if they take reservations, but we didn't have any. It was just the two of us and we were seated at a high top right away. I think they were a little bit busy so it took a moment for somebody to come by and get our drink order we ordered a couple of beers and a little bit of sake and a couple of waters.
