Gave this place another shot a couple of days ago. This place is just... off. The owner or manager whatever he is, always looks stressed, and it sets the tone, everyone else seems on edge too. They're constantly understaffed, like they're trying to save money. The food isn't authentic, and the Korean dishes are a "jack of all trades, master of none" situation. To top it off, the space is cramped, tables are jammed so close together that servers and guests can barely move around. Also, there's no way other 4-5 star ratings are genuine. This restaurant is beautiful inside. The service is friendly and the food is delicious. I ordered the Hibachi Chicken which came out steaming on a skillet with a side of rice. My daughter enjoyed a variety of sushi and surf and turf rolls. I reserve a star because I asked if the Hibachi chicken had mushrooms and was told it did, but that they could make it without. I then said, yes, I would like the Hibachi chicken without mushrooms and it came with lots of mushrooms. The server took it back and they expedited a remake which was delicious. read more

Okay, so this place is a 10 star out of 5! I have been to all the better sushi places in San Diego. This place is far better. I never say this, but THE BEST! When we were seated, the host walked us through the menu and explained the sourcing of the food and what was fresh and popular, etc. All the staff took great care of us. We came here yesterday for my birthday with a reservation for six at 7 PM, which we made a week in advance. My husband and I arrived around 6:40 and let the host know we were waiting for the rest of our party. I asked if we'd be seated outside since it was chilly, and the host, sounding annoyed, said that parties of six or more are seated outside. At 7 PM, we checked in again, and he told us-rudely-that it would be another 30 minutes. When my husband asked why, given we had a reservation, he just repeated it without explanation. Stopped in here recently for lunch and thought it was great! Owned by the same owner as Love Boat in San Marcos (but not the Oceanside location). Fresh crab in rolls, not just imitation is a plus. Upscale but small interior seating. Plush, low bar seats are appreciated by this short patron! Nice patio though it's just looking at the parking lot in Bressi Ranch. I was driving around somewhat lost and ran into this place with an interesting name. I thought, why not. The place is open and welcoming. My server, Maddie was very friendly and attentive. She provided excellent service. Thank you!!! It was a a bit chilly and I opted for a bowl of tonkatsu. It was delicious. Plenty of noodles, healthy pieces of pork and the egg was perfectly cooked. The broth brought it all together and when the bowl was empty, I found myself wanting just a little more broth. I don't normally order rolls, but needed a little something more to fill me up. The salmon and avocado roll was smaller than rolls I've seen before. It did its job. The ginger and pickled cukes were fresh and refreshing. I wanted more of it. Nice atmosphere, and my crispy Shrimp roll and bulgogi for me was just fine. My wife ordered the black cod entree and after eating a bone went on to remove about six more. For $32 a simple v cut bone removal during fileting would be expected, and at the very least a warning for safety reasons. We did mention it to the server and she said that they try to get them out but sometimes they miss some. Either this was a decision to not bone the filets, or someone really didn't know what they were doing. read more

My husband and I love this place. We've added it to our list of date nights when we're craving good sushi. We always sit at the bar. Best to make reservations though, they get busy at times so call ahead but we've not had any trouble getting seated each time. Their service is prompt and friendly. Took the wife and kids to Fish Boon on New Years Eve for lunch and it was delicious. We got the calamari and gyoza for appetizers, and they were both good. The breading on the calamari was probably the best I've had and it was not greasy like many other places. Our girls got the chicken teriyaki, and they loved it. My wife and I split speciality rolls and they were good too. Our server was very attentive, and he service was prompt. I was so excited to see Fish Boon open up in the area. I ordered to-go around lunch time and the food was ready pretty quickly. I had a California hand roll, a roll with salmon on top, and some sashimi (tuna and salmon). While the sushi was good, I don't think it met the expectations I had for the price point. It was nothing special and very average in terms of quality. With so many other choices around the plaza, I don't see myself gravitating towards Fish Boon when there are so many other restaurants. I know they are new so I will probably come back and try in a few months but as of now I am a little disappointed. read more

We tried this place for the first time tonight. I liked it but I didn't love it. The service was excellent and it is cute. The menu is huge which is a little off putting. We had the brussel sprouts which were 5 stars and fantastic. They came with a super tasty dipping sauce too. My friend got the Poke salad and she was disappointed by how little seaweed salad was in it and how much dressing was on the salad. The salad was a very soggy at the end because it had too much dressing. I had 2 rolls - salmon skin and soft shell crab. The salmon skin was way too salty. The soft shell crab was very good. The roll sizes are very large for a good price. I will try this place again but will order different rolls next time. My friend said she would go again and order a cooked fish meal. We will definitely order the brussel sprouts again. Worth another try. read more

Their menu seemed to have something to appease all different types of palates (including two picky toddlers). Went to Fish Boon on Christmas Eve for lunch. Party of six. Despite there being room, they refused to seat our party together in adjacent tables. After the third refusal to sit us in empty adjacent tables that they confirmed were not being held for reservations, we decided to leave. This poor experience was solely due to the concierge/waitress who was not interested in assisting, and was visibly annoyed when we requested to be seated near to each other. We left and had a lovely lunch next door. After lunch, as we walked back to our car and looked in the window, the adjoining tables we had requested were still empty. We've eaten there before and the food was great, but this experience was certainly frustrating. Hope they fix it. read more

Such a quaint place with lovely indoor/outdoor seating! We had reservations for the patio and were seated quickly despite it being very busy. What a shame, we had high hopes for this place. When they first opened, it was extremely good. Slowly but surely the quality of the food and service has gone down hill. Our last two experiences were not good. We ordered Blue fin Toro, Chu Toro and O' Toro sushi. The Chu toro and regular tuna, they were exactly the same. The O' Toro was mush and sinewy. The Scollop nigiri was extreme fishy. The Saba was not cured correctly. We ordered the King Salmon and it was Bakafrost. They buy their Tamago and Ankimo. We had been here once before and ate at the restaurant which we liked, so we thought we would try DoorDash. DoorDash order was placed at 6 pm on a Sunday. The dasher arrived and waited 30 minutes for the food. I received my food at 8pm. Order was wrong, incomplete, cold, and just downright bad. Chicken Katsu was ice cold, goyza was missing, soup was filled 1/3 of the container, etc. honestly just an absolute joke. I called the restaurant after the dasher had been waiting at the restaurant for 30 minutes and they did take responsibility and admitted they really messed up. I'll update this review if anything positive comes out of this but at the moment, DoorDash refunded me $53 on a $100 order. So, I paid $47 for an absolute trash meal. Im honestly hoping they attempt to make this right but in the meantime I'll be recommending to anyone I know to stay far away from this place. So entirely disappointing on every level. read more

Fish Boon is now our #1 favorite sushi place in the area. We go past our other two favorites to visit it and we've brought friends and coworkers there. The fish always seems fresh, buttery, and high quality. Their specialty rolls are unique and they don't lazily put cucumber in everything like most sushi places. Our favorite rolls are the Padres, Lemon, and Sunset. The Yuzu Highball is also a very tasty cocktail option. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated with comfortable furniture, a nice patio, and clean bathrooms. We've had several different servers, and the entire staff seems attentive, kind, and accommodating. If I want to suggest a winner for a meal out with my wife, I suggest Fish Boon and she can't say no. Their fish is delish. read more
