I usually come here with my husband after we hit the beach. We usually get really good customer service. But whoever was the cashier and other worker today, please remember your customer service. We said "hi how are you" and got nothing.... Oookay. Then we said "one without chocolate please" "okay". Paid said "thank you" and just directly back to her face in her phone without a simple smile or acknowledgment. I get it. It's hot. It's a Sunday. Maybe slower than usual. I came here expecting a sweet treat, but almost everything on the menu was sold out. I did go later in the day, and there were a lot more people in front of the line than me. I ended up getting the strawberry keylime pie. I thought it would be fresh, but it was practically frozen. I still open to trying this place again. I suggest going when they first open rather than the end of the day. It's a quick stop and there isn't any seating. Came here and got the signature strawberry shack shake. It tasted good but not really special - pretty much what you would expect of a combination of strawberry and yogurt. There looked to be some other syrups or chocolate swirled on the sides of the cup but I couldn't really taste it. If I came back I would probably try the strawberry lavender sundae instead because it seems more unique. Service was good - the lids they had were kind of weird shaped and didn't fit on the cups, but the woman at the counter told us that beforehand and apologized for the inconvenience. Sometimes the only reason we'd drive down to Carlsbad after church in Vista would be to satisfy our perpetual strawberry craving. Unfortunately, after years of coming here we experienced a stunning collapse in the quality of what we beheld as their signature treat--the strawberry dole whip. When I asked the staff for recommendations, they couldn't really explain the options in any sort of detail. It looked like they were perplexed that I even asked these types of questions. Cute dessert stand with no seating and no restrooms, it's just an order and pick-up window with a couple high tables to stand and eat your treats (though we took it to the beach which was just a few minutes away on foot). Another local neighborhood spot I was in the mood for ice cream to follow my lunch and have heard about the popular Carlsbad strawberry company. Service was quick as the line was not long, although I think I missed it when they called my order from the window as another order was ready at the same time, but I assumed the two folks going up to get the order both ordered something until I realized they walked away without both. The menu is also only available to see if you're standing right up at the window, it's a small little space.
