Fish District is our go-to, quick, easy + heathy pick up/delivery dinner. We recently ordered for a big group, and tried several items we don't normally get, and literally everything was great. A few of our favorites we keep on rotation- Kale + Salmon bowl - we get this a couple times a month - we get salmon blackened and all sauces on the side so nothing is overly soft by the time we get it. (If you don't like seaweed, just request no nori extra kale) Crispy rice cake - extra crispy + again, sauce on side. It's under appetizer but large enough as a meal IMO Coastal Wrap with blackened salmon, super good. (And sauce on side) Recently tried the steak burrito and to my surprise, would def. order again. Not on our normal rotation but good - the clam chowder. They also have great sweet potato fries, we just request extra crispy and our kids love the fish and chips. All and all, can't go wrong here. While doing "fish taco" research on Yelp for our San Diego trip, Fish District kept popping up in my results. But it wasn't the fish tacos that drew me in, it was the fish and chips! Fish and chips sound like a simple concept, but half the time the batter is soggy and the other half the batter is super bland. But when it's right, it's just oh-so-good - and the fish and chips from Fish District was oh-so-right. It was made to order, so it was hot and fresh when I got it. First of all, I think my review would be better if we had physically eaten inside the restaurant. We ordered food for pick-up, which I now realize isn't the best thing to do with seafood. I got a bowl of clam chowder, the Baja Wrap, and the Battered Fish. The clam chowder was great, aside from being a little bit too salty. I also wish it had more potatoes in it. I guess it depends on what scoop I get from the pot! The baja wrap was good but it wasn't for me. The battered fish was good but would've been better eaten right away, since the outside got a little bit soggy by the time we got home. Overall, I would definitely come back to this restaurant, but this time eat the food fresh out the kitchen. read more

I got the poke bowl, half salmon half tuna with the wasabi sauce and it did not disappoint. I really like how there are the basic toppings and nothing crazy-- it makes the fish and rice stand out! For the amount of food you get, the price is extremely reasonable. $8.50 for a regular or $10.50 for a large. You get the best bang for your buck without compromising the taste or quality. Came here for lunch and got Fish & Chips. I will say the food is absolutely amazing! I'm a huge fan of Fish & Chips and this place does it well. It's a bit pricey but worth paying for! The reason I gave it a 4 star instead of 5 is because of the service I received. The staffs were not too friendly or much greetings. The place is pretty small too so sitting inside felt a little cramped. People on both sides kept staring at my table so it was pretty awkward. I wanted to give 2 stars but their fish and chips is really good, when you can actually order it. First of all, there is no way to speak with an actual person when calling the listed number, it's always the same recording. Secondly, the online ordering system Is not really user friendly and has twice let me get through the process only to say ordering is unavailable, or just bump me off the site. Third issue is the lack of updated hours, they really should have an updated voice message when their hours change if they don't actually have a human to interface with. Additionally, I have never heard of a restaurant closing on NYE! This is generally a pretty busy night I would think, but then it is Bressi Ranch and not a lot happening once the sun goes down. Delightful. That's the one word that best describes the Fish District. The Carlsbad location is hopping, especially for lunch during the week due to the businesses near Bressi Ranch but well worth the wait. I'm a fish and chips fiend and cannot say no if it's on the menu, so I was delighted to not only order it but to report back that this might be the best I've had in the last couple of months. The fish was lightly battered, perfectly fried, crispy and didn't leave that greasy feeling on your fingertips. The fries were well seasoned and crunchy on the outside but cooked nicely and moist on the inside. My hubby and I also ordered a battered fish taco and a battered shrimp taco as well which were both superb and topped with a nice aioli sitting on a really tasty corn tortilla. I'll definitely be going back and encourage you to do the same. read more

I took my father here for lunch and the staff and food were 5 Star. I frequent the Carmel Valley location but am happy to see this Carlsbad location as well. I ordered the Poke bowl with quinoa instead of rice(amazing) and dad ordered the fish and chips(can't go wrong) and bread pudding. All was amazing!!! read more

I accidentally ordered online at the wrong location. I'm in Irvine and ordered from Carlsbad store. I called literally 1 minute after I placed the order, and they would not agree to cancel my order. This turned me off to Fish District entirely. If they could have redirected my order to the Irvine store, I would have been happy but they were no help whatsoever. First time trying this place. I really wish I could give half stars, because I would have given 3.5 stars and this is the reason why. We ordered a few items for take out, and I would say everything was just okay. Fish and chips- big pieces of fish on a bed of fries. The fish was juicy however it was missing tartar sauce, so it was on the bland side. The fries at least were seasoned well. Salmon and kale bowl- also mediocre. The fish was on the drier side. The kale was lightly sautéed and seasoned, and everything was on huge bed of rice. I felt there was way more rice than salmon/kale. Mushroom fries- these were probably the best. Nice and crispy on the outside with big juicy cuts of portobello mushrooms in the inside. Lightly seasoned and it came with a nice aioli dipping sauce. Shrimp basket- nice big juicy pieces of shrimp. So, with low expectations I walk into Fish District for a Sunday lunch. Friends said poor local craft beer selection and over battered / greasy fish& chips. Still I wanted calamari and seen decent looking plates people ordered. Added a Baja Style fish taco ( Cod). Both were very good. Not over battered and not over cooked. Especially the calamari. Exceptional service and fast. Should have known to trust fellow Yelpers over friends who don't get out as much. 5 Stars for sure. read more

Really good fresh seafood. They offer wraps, burritos, bowls, tacos and more. I've tried a couple of different items and they have all been delicious. One thing I like is that a lot of the seafood here is wild caught. I think my favorite dish here is the fish taco, but you can't wrong with anything on the menu. read more

I've eaten here a couple of times with the wife and very much enjoyed it each time. We've gotten dumb lucky and found seats at the bar, but I could see how seating could be an issue. The place is busy cause it's good! I mostly get tacos because tacos are awesome. Select whatever fish they have when you visit, it changes each time based on what's available. The clam chowder has been very good the couple of times we've ordered it. I'd consider it a go-to. They batter their french fries to make them extra delicious. So much so that you can take them home and reanimate them in a toaster oven and they're still good! There's a good selection of craft beers on tap and some decently-priced wines as well. read more

This place is mediocre the service was bad the ahi tuna and mahi-mahi was rubbery definitely tasteless and not worth the money or time. Most of the fish was inedible which was a waste. The guy at the register was rude and impatient had absolutely no suggestions to new customers which means he wouldn't even eat here which tells you a whole lot. read more

This franchise has not failed me yet! The raw fish is fresh at prices that compete with nearby sushi places. Poke: my fave is the wasabi. Just the hint of wasabi adds a spiciness that does not overpower the freshness of the fish. Spicy Poke Rice cakes: these are good in regards to the fish, but I do wish it was made with less rice. The rice is nice and crispy though. Fish and chips: not too oily and just the right serving because all the fries. Portobello fries: so addicting! Crispy on the outside and juicy as you bite into them. The dipping sauce that comes with this starter is tasty too! Only suggestion for improvement: have a gluten free option for the sandwiches and melts. read more

I was really impressed with my food here! I ordered the salmon and kale salad as it came. The salmon was very hot and fresh, not fishy tasting. My friend ordered the salmon wrap (aka burrito) and said it was really good. The wrap was massive and she said it too was really delicious. I've been to the Fish District at the Caramel Valley Plaza with very good results. This location was good, but they need to work on their Quinoa. I ordered the Salmon Bowl over quinoa, some kale, and chopped scallions. I asked for the salmon's temp to be at a medium, but they definitely served it under which was okay because I raw salmon all the time. The salmon tasted good and was a good size portion for this size bowl. I would say that the salmon could of benefited from some additional seasoning. A nice Cajun or Blackened rub would be nice on this salmon. The kale was fresh but uninteresting because it needed something on it. It was undressed, but on a good note, it is very good for you. Now the quinoa was properly cooked and was nice and fluffy, but it was very bland and simple. It needed seasoning and something with a little texture to liven it up. If they would perhaps put some sort of nut or very fine chopped red and yellow bell peppers for not only the color but also the flavor and crunch. I ate at the counter and the girls there were very cool. They were attentive and managed the busy crowds well. read more

Took a drive up to carlsbaddie with my dog to explore stopped in here to check out the food before we headed back home to SD and WOW, this place is beyond AWFUL!!! Ordered the ahi tuna with chips and the chips are cooked in cheap canola oil which causes inflammation and clogged arteries so I tried asking if I can sub it for anything because I would just throw it away and use my avocado oil chips at home, kid said no, ok fine, ordered two pieces of fried cod for my dog as well, told him I'd wait outside as they had a sign no dogs and I wanted to be respectful, waited 20 min outside for nothing got up to check inside to see what the hold up was my food was sitting there and kids were goofing off not caring about working at work, ok whatever got home food was AWFUL!!! Cheap overcooked hard pieces of unflavored cod my DOG would not even eat. I tried it and spit it out ew! How the owners are proud of this atrocity I experienced is beyond me. I'd never go back even if I was paid a million dollars. Awful is an understatement. -5 stars if I could that's how awful of an experience and how cheap and trashy the food is, probably frozen from Walmart, never eat here unless you want to die quicker and have health problems from the cheap oils and products they use just for a quick profit not even caring about humanity of health, disgusting. read more

Once again I took the advice of your fellow yelpers and tried the Fish District out. We walked in the door just before the lunch rush... glad we got there when we did cuz the line and the wait appeared long. Dining area is small but effectively laid out with tables and a long bar. They also have a patio with bar seating and would be dog friendly, no fur babies today we rode the Harley. We checked in and got a note for a free cup of clam chowder. Asked about this and we were told they no longer honor it . So....we went with the 3 piece fish and chips, bowl of fish stew for me, a cup of clam chowder for my wife and a breaded shrimp taco. Fish and chips we split, very good and the fries were battered and had a really good flavor... you get a really large amount of fries ...we recommend. The fish stew was great. And the wife liked the cup of chowder. The shrimp taco was meh... We enjoyed the food and will definitely be back. read more

It's nice finding new spots, surprise places when looking for safe places for large groups to dine at. When you're planning a get together with a couple kids, a finicky toddler, and adults of specific tastes, someone is bound to turn up their nose at whatever is suggested. So, when I searched for a fish joint between us and them, this was close to the top of the list. A glance at the reviews and pics made it an easy choice and we piled up in the car to enjoy our night. I had the Shrimp Po' Boy, having been hungry for one for the few weeks before. It was dry, the bun toasted, not grilled, leaving it a bit bland and crumbly. The shrimp themselves were plump, well fried, and kept their size and texture despite the heat. The vegetables were crisp, a thick cut, and nice and fresh. And covering it all was a great sauce, fair amount of tang to it, but not enough to help the arid desert of that bun. French fries probably came out of a bag, but were well cooked and tasted alright regardless. My lady love had the Fish & Chips. Like the shrimp before them, they had a good fry, were once and moist, and were served with not my favorite tartar sauce, but still not bad. She didn't finish her fries either, finding them alright, but a bit boring. Our son had the same, but only took a couple of bites before playing with his aunt and uncles. Also on the table were the Calamari Fritti, something that are pretty brilliant no matter where I get them at. Well, maybe not at the Roxy ... I'm sure Rimel's would probably fuck 'em up, too. A solo Marinated Skirt Steak Taco was the odd man out on our Last were a serving of Chowder Bacon Fries. The chowder itself was tasty, a great version of a Boston style. Atop the fries, sprinkled with bacon, the whole was salty, creamy, and congealed down enough that they were easy to eat with a fork and a big mouth. These were definitely a hit. So, pretty good food, a few sore points, but nothing that completed ruined anyone's dinner. There's a number of other things on the menu I would love to go out and try. Poke, portobello mushroom fries, and a plate full of fish tacos have all piqued my interest. Hopefully, one day soon, I'll be able to go back and expand this little review. read more
