Never disappointing. This is one of those few rare places where if you're not sure what you want, you can just pick something at random and it's still good. The biggest draw isn't even the food, it's the sodas. If they ever changed their soda vendor I'd probably go else where but right now it's the only place that sells cane sugar based sodas in a variety of flavors ( blueberry, ginger, lemon-lime ) that you absolutely won't find anywhere else. I was debating between this place and Rubios and decided to try this place out. I got the fish n chips which was priced at the time to be $10.50 for 2pcs of fish. The fish was cooked well and the batter was nice and crispy. The batter was a little thicker than what I would have liked. The fish which was Alaskan cod had a nice texture but was pretty bland in flavor. I had to resort to drenching the tartar sauce for some flavor but even then it wasn't as satisfying as other fish n chips places I had. Not sure if this is normally how they fry their fries but the fries I got were too over-fried. They were harder than I would have liked it. There wasn't much soft mushy on the inside due to this over-frying. I ended up not finishing it due to it being over-fried. I probably wouldn't order this item again as I have had much better fish n chips elsewhere. read more

Fish District was great!! I originally was going to go to Habit Burger which is right next door but decided on the salmon and kale bowl and a side of sweet potato fries. They have their own craft sodas from Maine on the fountain and I got the root beer which was really good. I did something I normally would not do and I forgot to take my picture before I started eating I was so hungry but I assure you it was delicious! This order was perfectly seasoned, I did not need to add anything additional to taste and surprisingly the ranch dressing that came with sweet potato fries was really good too! I would normally have ketchup. Overall I enjoyed this meal and this experience here and would definitely try again! :) read more

A casual seafood eatery for dine in or take out. When busy it can be a good half hour from wait in line to delivery of your food. Whether it's worth the wait or even worth eating here at all really depends on what you order. Each menu item here needs its own star rating. I haven't tried everything on menu, but here is the breakdown based on our order: We ordered two catch of the day plates, one with shrimp, one with ahi, $14.50 each, each comes with two sides. -Seared tuna ahi. I'd give this five stars both for quality and size of portion. Really nice piece of ahi tuna, properly seared, fresh tasting. -Shrimp. Medium sized shrimp. Not spectacularly tasty. Only five or six on the plate. I'd give this dish three stars at most, based on quality and on how little shrimp you get. Sides: -Asparagus. How many asparagus can you eat anyway? This side adds a dollar to the dish. I'd say that enough asparagus are supplied, and all were cooked just right. Five stars. -White rice. Sticky over cooked by someone who doesn't know how to prepare rice. I'd give it one star except that at least the serving portion is large enough to be filling, hence boosting it up to two stars. -Sweet potato fries. Pretty good portion. Adds a dollar to price. Nicely done crisp. Four stars. -Side salad. Boring except perhaps for the cherry tomatoes. Small portion. Not a good side choice at all. Two stars. Over all I gave the place three stars based on these two dishes. If there had been more shrimp I might've bumped it all up to four stars but for essentially a fast food place, two dishes that came to $33.50 plus tip, and wasn't really much food, is just not satisfying. I get it - seafood is expensive but really if you're hungry as we were (just came from a day's hiking plus couple hours at the gym) if I'd known that we actually needed to order three plates to not have to eat my own seafood again at home (at least, that's what I ended up doing, she's not a big eater) I would've just shelled out $50+ for two at a real seafood restaurant with better service larger portions and hot bread on the table. Looking over the pictures posted on yelp, it seems like they've gradually reduced the amount of seafood on the plate. Anyway, as noted some dishes and some sides are better than others. Experiment to figure out what's best but don't expect to get a lot of food for ten or fifteen dollars. Over all - a much better choice would be California Fish Grill in Irvine. Maine Root soda machine to make yourself feel better about drinking a ton of added sugar, or just drink water as we did. Beer and wine available too. Happy hour 2-5pm food and drinks. read more

I just happened to drive by the restaurant yesterday and popped in out of curiosity. Their menu has so much to offer from poke starters, calamari fritti, wraps, fish and chips, tacos,bowls and catch of the day plates. Everything on their menu looks so good and it was hard deciding on what to try on their menu. The staff were helpful and answered my questions and even made recommendations on dishes to try. So I ordered grilled salmon with a bowl of clam chowder soup. I ate my meal outside on the patio. I am usually a picky eater however I happily ate my entire meal. The fish was moist and seasoned well. The clam chowder was so good and yet filling. The meal And the atmosphere did not disappoint. There food was fresh and delicious...I definitely got my mom nom's in! My wife is a type 1 diabetic and she started to go low but luckily they had bread pudding on their menu...long story short I threw myself out of ketosis by trying a healthy piece of the bread pudding! We love this place! We drive down from Temecula just to eat here. I have tried several items and my favorite it the Fish and Chips.

This place offered a great selection of seafood options to please anyone's particular fishy craving. We enjoyed a Poki bowl and classic fish n chips. I ordered the 3-piece fish n chips, which I didn't see on the menu, but when I ordered, "Fish and chips" the cashier asked, "Two, or three-piece?" I hesitated for a moment pondering the dire consequence of perhaps not having enough fish (I've been in many situations where the dish should more appropriately be named, "A lot of chips and a couple bites of fish.")... then I asked for 3 pieces. Little did I know that the pieces here are more than sufficient. I would have been good with two. The breading crispy and thick but not too saturated with oil. The fish light and flakey, moist and flavorful. The chips were thick-cut and lightly salted. Honestly not my favorite chips but they were good with some ketchup. The tartar sauce the accompanied the plate was quite good, having some creative combination of seasoning infused. On the completely opposite end of the spectrum from a plate of fried fish and potatoes, was a cool and refreshing Salmon Poki Bowl, with the "spicy" sauce and avocado added. The bowl was a well balanced mix of rice, veggies and fish that the sauce pulled together into a delicious meal. It was not at all spicy, except for the occasional bite of fresh sliced ginger in the mix. But even the ginger was perfectly balanced and only added to the dish without overpowering any of the other very fresh flavors. Service was nice, tables and booths were clean and there is seating indoors and outdoors within an uncovered seating area. The food was prepared quickly and delivered to our table looking as good as it tasted. The tables are equipped with all the standard fishery condiments (malt vinegar, ketchup etc...), and it had a very casual almost dock-side feel. Overall our little seafood whim paid off, and I anticipate a revisit in the near future. read more

I recently ordered take out from here for dinner after work. This was only my second time eating at Fish District and I ended up ordering a Large Spicy Salmon Poke Bowl and a Tuna Melt. For the poke bowl, I thought it was pretty good! The salmon was fresh along with the other ingredients. It's a simple bowl compared to some of the Poke-specific spots you can find, so if you're looking to load up on a ton of different toppings, this probably isn't the place for you. Nevertheless, the poke bowl was delicious and I'd definitely get it again. I don't know why they called it spicy salmon though. The sauce was good but wasn't spicy at all. The Tuna Melt was okay. The bread was nicely toasted and the tuna seemed like pretty good quality, but it didn't blow me away. Ultimately, it was nice to try once, but I probably won't be getting it again. I'm sure there will be people who enjoy it though. When I came to pick up, there wasn't anyone in line to order but the front patio was filled with people eating so it's nice to see a business doing well through the pandemic. Great customer service. Nice place, they serve beer and had a club America game playing. We had the portabella mushroom fires. Highly recommend! When we lived in WA state, it seemed like every restaurant had delicious breaded and deep fried button mushrooms. Not as common back here in Cali. These guys took that idea and blow it out of the water. Instead of a heavy breading, they just lightly floured the mushroom strips. That way it still has a crust, kind of like a regular french fry. The dipping sauce is killer. It tastes like pea soup only with a thick creamy consistency. Perfect combo. I had the traditional style wrap with salmon and avocado. It was very good, nice salmon taste with crunchy cabbage. Unfortunately, it was way to wet. The juice was already pooling up on the plate when it came to my table. Then as I ate it, juice kept pouring out. That made the tortilla super soggy and fall apart. I had a little taster of the wife's fish and chips. Great choice for sure. We've been customers for a few years, but recently the quality of the food has gone down. The salmon & kale bowl was terrible. The prices have gone up while the size of the bowl has gotten smaller. But this time they were just as disappointed in fish district as the fish grill. Dad ordered a poke bowl and my mom got a kids fish and chips was informed the place wasn't busy and it still took them 20-30 min to deliver food. Poke bowl.. 20-30 minutes? Really? The issue was the kids fish and chips - plate filled with fries and a single Thin, heavily breaded and greasy with barely any fish. Parents tend not to want to send things back but I wish they did. Was in the Carmel Mountain area and wanted to get a healthy choice for lunch. Wasn't in the mood for the full sit-down meal and thought Fish District would be the perfect choice because I can just get a taco for lunch. They have the following tacos available: shrimp, fish or steak. Came here with a few family members on the weekend during lunch hour and the place was packed. The thought of them charing $4.50 for a fish taco made me raise an eyebrow when I first walked in, but my raised eyebrow definitely turned into a big smile when I saw the size of the fish in my taco. Yes, they are very generous with their serving and you definitely get your money's worth. Remember to ask them for their Catch of the Day. Perhaps we were ordering too many different tacos, but they end up getting our order wrong. Charged me extra for a fish taco that I didn't order (but no complaints after I was served with the taco because I wolfed it down), but they also got other parts of our order wrong. We went back and told the guy at the register about the order issues and they quickly fixed it with a smile. Loved the Fish District! The Fish & Chips was really good! Highly recommend. 3 pieces if you're super hungry; 2 pieces if you're "regular" hungry. The fish was long and cooked perfectly and the chips (fries) had great seasoning. The order comes with house-made caper sauce, which has a light color and is very good for dipping fish and fries. They also have tartar sauce, which is tasty... get them both so you can compare. The salmon plate with teriyaki was enjoyable, but the salmon filet wasn't big enough. The teriyaki sauce was the perfect compliment to the salmon, and also to the rice (rice/fries were my two side choices). The restaurant itself didn't have a crazy fish scent (some, but not much). Three words....chowder bacon fries!!! I'm not sure if it was because I was starving but that order of fries gave me life! Service was fast and friendly. The portion was decent compared to price. We only had a little time so I didn't fully explore their menu bit I will definitely come back often! Btw, the fries were so good I got an order to go for my sister. Delicious fish tacos and Ceviche! We got here at 1 on Saturday and there was a long line but it went fast. Parking was easy. Almost all the seats were full but they had plenty outside. Not much customer service but the guys we talked to were helpful and courteous. The fish was so fresh and ceviche perfectly mixed with lime and veggies. I am usually not a big fan of shrimp ceviche but this one was very good. Ordered almost one of each of the tacos and each had it's own strong characteristic. My favorite was the swordfish Baja style. Traditional Cod was delicious and the cod was huge and super crispy. Tons of sauces and seasoning. I need to go back to try the poke. The prices were very reasonable. Arrived at the Fish District, Carmel Mountain location for the first time with my husband, thanks to another positive review on "Nextdoor", we being fish lovers, decided to give this place a try. Well, I must say that first Xavier, the manager was more than wonderful!! We tried the Long Island Clam chowder which is a combination of red and white chowder. Needless to say it was wonderful!! My husband had the Fish and Chips, which not only was a large portion but was excellent too!! I being a small eater, was suggested by Xavier, to try the 4oz size of Mahi-mahi, (instead of the 6oz) which included a side and was exactly enough for me. All-in-all, I must say, a restaurant where plastic forks and knives were used, was one of the best clam chowder and seafood meals I've had since I move to CA 10 years ago!! Had the skirt steak bowl tonight that was really good--except I didn't love the choice of sauces. One was a heavy garlic teriyaki and the other was a creamy wasabi. My biggest concern is the inability to speak to someone at the restaurant via phone. I thought I had left my credit card at the restaurant. I tried to call several times but all I got was a fast beeping sound. I ended up driving out there, and yes, it was there. The woman I talked to said the phone hasn't worked for a long time. Isn't that ridiculous? Fortunately I only live about 15 minutes away from the restaurant, and the card was there. If I'd had to drive out there because I couldn't contact them, and it hadn't been there, I would have really been upset. It's just unacceptable for a business to not have a phone. read more

My first time at Fish District, less than 10 minutes from home. I had the day off from work, ran a couple of errands mid-morning, and decided to swing by shortly after they opened at 11AM. I studied the menu ahead of time, ordered the seared ahi bowl for my wife, while I was craving fish & chips, which I haven't had in many months. The service was friendly and fast, and everything came out perfect. The f&c even came with a container of malt vinegar, and there were plenty of to go items at the condiment station. I love this place except they recently made a change to their menu that I'm not happy about about. You used to be able to add fresh poke to their salads but you can't any more . You can only get their poke in their poke bowls. So if you're trying to eat low-carb you're out of luck! Please bring back the option of adding your delicious poke to a salad! Fish District is located in the Carmel Mountain Plaza, right between Pier 1 Imports and The Habit. Outdoor (partially covered with umbrellas) seating is available if you wish to dine outside and/ or with your 4 legged friend like my husband and I did this past Saturday afternoon for lunch. We arrived a little before 2 pm and no one was in line and the place wasn't crowded. After looking over the menu, we ended up ordering: Citrus Kale, $7 prior to tax- This salad looks like it was purchased from a supermarket, packed in a plastic bowl with well chopped kale and purple lettuce. And a handful of chopped almonds topping this salad. I thought the citrus salad that comes with this salad was pretty good. The amount of salad you get is an excellent portion to share with another person. Fish Of The Day Plate, $13.50 prior to tax- Some of the seafood items available to pick from for the fish of the day included swordfish, salmon, shrimp and halibut. This entree also comes with your choice of 2 sides. I ended up picking swordfish with rice and cole slaw. I was a little surprised that the rice that came with this entree was white rice that looks like it came out of a rice cooker that I make at home. For some reason, I was expecting rice pilaf or something. But the rice was cooked just fine. The cole slaw could have used a little bit more creaminess and flavor. The sword fish itself was over cooked and lacked flavor (pretty bland for the most part). ----------------------------- (Total= $20.09 after tax) If you order your meal(s) for here, you will be given a number. Just place your number on your table and eventually an employee will bring out your order. You also have to bust your own table (thought this was important to note because sometimes there are some fast food restaurants in which the employees bust your table). Food overall was pretty average and would not come back. By the way, this place had free WiFi and also the ladies restroom was clean upon this visit. We ordered the fried fish, the taste is ok nothing to get excited about, clam chowder is mediocre but maybe I had better, my hubby had shrimp po boy sandwich and he says it was sloppy but if they removed the extra it would've been better. Ordered fish tacos. Should have gone to rubios right next door. Fish District is a great idea terribly executed. The store was just tired with employees who didn't really seem to care. There were two tvs (tuned to different stations...sound off) while Flash Dance soundtrack was playing from sound system. They had a sign professing to care about the oceans (as a reason for not providing wrapped single use utensils, I think) but delivered five packs of individually wrapped ketchup in a small plastic cup. The salmon burger wasn't a burger but rather a dried out looking piece of salmon. I mean...kudos I guess for the upgrade. But it looked awful. The side of spicy slaw was flavorful, and perhaps the best part of the meal. But it had been sitting a while and was soggy. My tacos were generously sized with a trough full of sauce added atop. The fish (mahi) had zero flavor. None. Grilled without seasoning? All good. "May I please have some hot sauce?" "We only have Sriracha" was the reply. "But you sell fish tacos. Don't you have taco sauce? Any kind?" "We aren't allowed to sell it anymore." If the point of a visit to Fish District was to have guests laughing at the restaurant during the meal, then bravo.
