Service is great and the ambiance is great. However knocking it down a star due to the high prices and skimping on the fish that is served with your food. For example ordered a Traditional burrito and confirmed I received a flour tortilla with mainly rice and beans. The mahi mahi was 15% of the contents, mainly ate just carbs. Everything on the menu sounded so good it was hard to choose, but I went with the bowl of clam chowder with half a shrimp and scallop. But it was delicious! Clam chowder was thick and creamy and the melt was buttery and nicely toasted, the only small complaint is that all the contents of the melt kept falling out. What I didn't like is that the forks, spoons, and napkins were behind the counter, so you had to wait to ask one of the workers for you. In my opinion, it was really inconvenient. read more

I like the food... sometimes. Overall, a bit overpriced but tasty. There are a few different locations, but this is the closest to my house. The menu is pretty varied, but items are all seafood based. Small casual eatery. They have a number of different offerings including soup/chowder, salads, fish tacos, poke bowls and fish and chips. Nothing here is mind blowing, but so far everything I've had is tasty. They have a nice selection of drinks, and the staff is pretty friendly. Go here if you are looking for a quick seafood meal. Don't go if you are in the mood for anything fancy. A little pricey for what you get but okay food quality. read more

Confession: I don't like fish. So, I feel like a complete hypocrite. You know, like one of those vegans who goes to a BBQ joint and complains that they couldn't find anything to eat. Just to be clear though... I didn't order any seafood. What did I get at the fish restaurant, you ask? Mushrooms. Glorious lightly fried (almost like tempura) mushrooms. They had a good mushroom flavor, but weren't seasoned with anything else. I added a little salt and they were perfect! Also, they came with a light green pesto-like sauce that was delectable. I'm really pulling out all of the synonyms for these mushrooms! "Constant companion" and I also shared a bread pudding, which was pretty good. He's the seafood fan, so he got a shrimp/scallop melt, clam chowder, and fries. He liked his food but said that the sauce on his melt was overwhelming and didn't mesh well with the other flavors. I didn't try the chowder or his melt though, so I can't really comment on them. The fries were the super crispy kind of fries that you can only get at a fish place. I used these to scoop up the last bit of my green sauce! I think that this place is a chain, but I like it! I know that CC will want to go back to try some of their fried seafood. I love their food, 10/10 every time I go. I always get the clam chowder with 2 garlic bread pieces on the side ($0.50 extra) to dip them in and it's soooo good. Their poke bowls are also very generous with fish and better than a lot of poke places I've been to. Only reason I deducted a star is because I never feel welcomed in there, the cashiers are all young and gloomy and never smile, I feel like a burden when I walk in LOL. Sit down quality seafood served fast and for a fairly reasonable price! Fish District tastes waaaay better than I would have expected just by looking at the price tags of everything. There's not many places around that you'll get a plate of melt-in-your-mouth swordfish and two sides for well under $20. That's really just a drop in the bucket though. The menu is huge with everything from poke bowls to Mahi burgers to Baja style fish tacos. Each time I eat here I'm additionally impressed by the quality considering how cheap it is. The Fish District is a perfect example of a solid four start restaurant. I've been to the location in Carlsbad before but this seems like a better 2.0 version. Thankfully the proprietors chose a larger location because their Carlsbad closest location was just too small, and eating outside when it was cold outside was not feasible. This location is convenient and has an actual dining room. I ordered a wrap and the kids took advantage of their generous fish and chips which included a drink for $6. My wrap, or (burrito), was loaded with fish taco fixings. They didn't go cheap on either the size or the quality. This came with tortilla chips and some salsa. They only provided one small thimble sized cup of their great tasting salsa but you'll probably needed two. Overall, everything aligned correctly to make this a great experience. The portions were generous and the quality was there. Price was reasonable. - They do still honor the yelp check-in deal for a free soup. Note that they have lunch specials ($8 poke bowl!) and HH ($1 off tacos!), as well as a Yelp check in deal for free soup, but even if you don't take advantage, their pricing is super reasonable. They also have a shaded, dog-friendly patio. The poke bowls were fresh with generous fish, but this isn't a DIY poke bowl business so customization options aren't extensive. The fish and chips smelled great and a friend said the batter was awesome. The fish stew and shrimp-lemongrass soup were both solid. My friend found this place on yelp and we decided to get lunch here. It's nice even though the seats in the middle section were a little cramp together. There's lunch specials for tuna/salmon poke bowl ($8) everyday from 11-3pm. James got me the original tuna poke bowl and it was good. The sauce was not overwhelming and good amount of veggies. James got shrimp po boy with fries. Something about the batter on the fries made them really crispy and delicious. My other friends got fish and chips, salmon rice bowl. They were all good too. I was glad I made a stop over at this new Fish District for I would not of discovered a great Lemongrass Shrimp Soup, a scrumptious salmon small wrap or taco, and some pretty good fried calamari with some room for improvement. The soup was bliss, and I could not help that it reminded me of a curry soup, which I believe was the base of the soup. The soup came filled with tender succulent shrimp and a variety of small diced vegetables. The soup itself had a great flavor reminiscent of South East Asian light curry filled with those herbs and spices. Its texture was light but at the same time creamy. The fried calamari came with a light dusting of Cajun spices, spices that I wish they would of put more of. The calamari was crispy but a little over done. It was overly crunchy, so much so, that it was difficult to taste and feel the sweet calamari inside. I think a lighter fry would suffice. The marinara and horse radish sauce served on the side was very good. The salmon taco was very good. If you want fresh avocado, you have to pay a little extra, but it was worth it to me. The salmon was gently seared and seasoned and the meat was flaky and cooked just right. The taco was very good and came with fresh dark greens, sliced tomatoes, and a great light chipotle sauce. I really enjoy checking out places my Yelp friends have reviewed and this was quite the find! It's located in a rather large strip mall. There's a Home Depot and Costco nearby so if you have some errands to run, make sure you head over here after your shopping for a fantastic treat! The strip mall is very close to interstate 15 and off a major roadway. There is plenty of free parking in the strip mall parking lot. Signage is not great so it might be easy to miss if you weren't looking for it and it's fairly unassuming so I wouldn't have likely tried it if it weren't for my friends reviews. It has a moderate size indoor dining and some outdoor dining for the great California weather. I went in and it was easy to see they are all about the seafood here. Naturally since the name of the place is Fish District, but some places try to do a mix of over foods but not here. And let me tell you, they are serious about their seafood. It's incredibly fresh! They had fresh fish today like Mahi and Swordfish but I had a huge craving for fish 'n chips. For me, if they can't make good fish 'n chips than I can safely assume the rest won't be any good. The fish 'n chips order comes with two or three pieces of freshly battered cod. I ordered the two piece (should have gotten the three piece) and for a side I ordered the coleslaw. They have several local breweries on tap but I went with iced tea. It wasn't very long before I got my meal and it looked as good as it tasted. This has to be the best cod I have ever tasted and the batter was fresh and hot. I alternated eating the fish dipped in their homemade tartar sauce and using the vinegar. Even by itself with nothing else on it the fish was incredible. I would guess the tartar sauce is homemade. It had a slightly different color than traditional tartar sauce but the taste was the same with a bit of spice to it. And the chips (fries). Wow, these are the best chips I've ever had. They stayed hot and crisp even after I had been there awhile. They weren't greasy, didn't soften up and go cold after a few minutes. They were also great with the vinegar but fantastic by themselves. Some other notable points to this place.... they use recyclable plastic for their to-go containers! I love it when I see restaurants doing this. They even have recyclable bins inside the restaurant for the other plastic containers that some of the food and sauces come in. Very environmentally friendly! They serve Rice Bowls, Fresh Fish Wraps, Fish Tacos, Poke, Salads and fresh fish plates. Given my experience with the fish 'n chips I can't wait to go back and try their other dishes and next time, I'll bring some friends with me.I can't recommend this place enough to anyone who likes great fish. I didn't realize how far this place was from campus but I trusted Google Maps....EVENTUALLY I made it here! I came here on a Friday night and met up with a close friend. I had been craving some ahi poke and this place seemed like a great spot with the good variety of seafood dishes. It was pretty busy but the line moved quickly...so be prepared to know what you want to order! We ordered: -Lemongrass Shrimp Soup // EHHH. Lukewarm (literally). I'm very familiar with this flavor because my mother cooks something similar quite often, so it just tasted like a bowl of coconut milk with heavy lemongrass. Not a lot of shrimp, but I think this would taste so much better with rice! It's pretty salty though... -Fried calamari (calamari fritti) // Yum! I couldn't stop eating this. A bit on the salty side, but still, a great appetizer to share. -Spicy salmon poke // Pretty spicy! (Or maybe I have low tolerance.) Delicious, none-the-less! Get this if you don't like tuna. Salmon pieces are thick and succulent, and you can tell its fresh fish because the coloring is right. -Ahi tuna poke // Tuna pieces on point. Color is right, and texture is right. Only thing is, I wolved it down so quickly I couldn't really enjoy it as much! A bit too much rice for the $10 price, but I like the addition of seaweed salad. I wasn't so happy with the huge bunch of sweetened ginger though...that could have been a bit more of tuna! Pros: -Great service. They are helpful with recommending dishes and they bring your food to you as soon as they can! -Nice ambiance. I sat here for 2-3 hours with my friend, and they didn't even kick us out even though we were done eating and they were beginning to close. -Good selection. I like their menu options- definitely friendly for a light dinner and all groups! Cons: -A bit too much rice? I mean, it wasn't bad rice, but it was too much rice. Was concerned that portions weren't going to be enough, but it was just right! Pros: -both bowls were delicious! -comes with a lot of sticky rice, some seaweed, cucumbers, avocado, seaweed salad, & ginger -good portions for us! I've seen pictures where it seems like they were being stingy with the fish, but that was not the case for us -pretty filling and satisfying -bowls are in a convenient to-go bowl w/ lid (just in case you don't finish...but I don't know how you can't devour this bowl of goodness) -side spring salad mix is only $2 -CANE SODA is so good and I'm not even a soda drinker. Decided to mix the lemon lime, lemonade, root beer, ginger ale, and creme sodas together. Made with real cane sugar -tvs with sports!! -they serve BEER!! Cons: -ordered both bowls spicy but couldn't taste the spicyness at all -not a place to go if you're on a tight budget...it looks like a casual, fast food place but it's very easy to spend over $20 on just two people ($10/bowl...but poke is never cheap anyway) -filled with people....which can also be a pro because this means good business! I'm not a huge seafood lover and would choose a burger place over a fish place any day but I was feeling adventurous. Hubby and I stopped by on a Thursday evening and dined in. You order your food, take a number and wait for your food to be brought to your table. We ordered shrimp ceviche as a starter. Hubby order the ahi poke bowl and I had the mahi mahi coastal wrap. In retrospect, I probably should have ordered the traditional which comes with rice and beans and such. The coastal is loaded with coleslaw and lots of mango salsa, which is fine IF you like coleslaw and sweet salsa. I should've worn my glasses. Wait I don't wear glasses. The shrimp ceviche was fantastic, tangy and perfect with tortilla chips, I'd definitely recommend this. The poke was decent. Not a huge sushi person. My mahi mahi wrap was flavorful, the fish was moist and well cooked. It has A LOT of coleslaw inside. A LOT. Service was good, the table we wanted to sit at needed to be cleared and the gentleman that worked there cleared it off right away. The starter came out quickly and the food soon after. Get used to seeing my face here every other week or sooner ;)For some that are familiar with the area, the Fish District has taken over the old BBQ Republic that used to reside next to The Habit. I was pretty impressed by the quality of theirs and have had my fair share of soggy, greasy, not so fresh fish and chips and other seafood fare. Gross. Theirs are absolutely delicious! Fresh, non-fishy, firm, nice and crisp served with a heaping pile of French fries. Portion sizes are pretty good as well and they offer an assortment of dressings at each table to cater it to your tastes. Because I've heard so much about it, I decided to split the Scallop and Shrimp Melt with the co-habby and it was fantastic! This place has good food and the average price per entree is about $10-13. My fiancé and I came after a workout session at a gym down the street. We came on a Monday night at about 6:30pm and were surprised that it was pretty empty. The service was ok but the food made up for it. My fiance's wrap was bigger than an average Chipotle burrito. I'm pretty sure it weighed over a pound! I ordered the fish and chips and was really happy with the taste of the tarter sauce that came with it! 6.1 This place has yet to let me down!! Their fish and chips is amazingly good. I'm not sure how they do it but had it once and I can't stop thinking about it. Probably can't have it again until my next cheat day. Ugh. lol. My go to is their Ahi Rice Bowl. The first time I had it their rice was perfect. It was one of the best sushi rice I had with the right amount of vinegar. The next 4-5 times the rice was okay and sometimes a bit hard. On my recent visit the rice was better than usual but not quite the same taste and texture I had my first visit. But it was still good. I recommend getting their sauces on the side. I don't like the sauce going all over the rice. All the sauces are good but I tend to order the one with wasabi. I have yet to try the Salmon bowl because I have heard its not that great. So I stick with the Ahi instead. Great service as well, the person at the cashier are always so friendly and patient. Did I mention during lunch time the bowl is only 7.50? Yeah it's a great deal. Gosh were we happy to have found this place on a rainy afternoon. We originally settled on Rubios but I'm glad we decided on Fish District instead. It's a small, bright restaurant. You walk up to the cashier towards the back of the restaurant to place your order. You're then given a number to place on your table for them to bring out the food. We ordered: CUP OF CLAM CHOWDER $3.50 I was surprised by the size of this bowl! The $3.50 is the price for a cup of soup so maybe they put a cup in a bowl or something. The soup tasted lukewarm and that's a no bueno for any cream based soup. I tasted more potatoes than anything but sis thought the overall flavor of the soup wasn't bad. MAHI MAHI PLATE WITH RICE AND ASPARAGUS $13 The picture makes this dish look huge but it was actually a small piece of mahi mahi. Sis said the fish tasted nicely fresh and the filet was seasoned well. The fish comes with a choice of 3 sauces - sis opted for the Piccata sauce which we barely used so I can't remember what the sauce tasted like. You also get to choose 2 items from a list of side dishes. I loved the grilled asparagus. They were nicely prepared and tasted incredibly fresh (they didn't have the yuck-hard-to-eat inedible stems ya know what I'm sayin'). Fish 'n Chips Now *THIS* is what I'm talking about people. It's usually served with fries but the nice cashier let me sub the fries for sauteed veggies. You can choose 2 pieces of fish for $8 or 3 pieces of the beer battered code for $10. This cod was one of the best fish 'n chips I've ever tasted. The batter was ridiculously crunchy without being overly greasy. The batter had the perfect amount of thickness for us as it wasn't too thin nor was it too thick that you only tasted batter. SAUTEED VEGETABLES I didn't expect much when they let me substitute the fries for these sauteed veggies. But crap, best things happen when you go in with no expectations. The veggies were so hot that it warped the plastic container it was served in (not complaining here as I assumed this was due to vegetables being just sauteed prior to serving). The zucchini, red peppers, tomatoes (?), and onions tasted like they just came from a beautiful rainy garden that day. We felt the fish 'n chips was a great deal but the mahi dish was a bit steep at $13. I absolutely can't wait to return here and order the fish 'n chips again. If you're looking for a casual seafood place in the Carmel Mtn area.. this is it! They're located in the Pier1/Rubios shopping area - where the old BBQ Republic used to be. They have a pretty good selection of TKOs (aka tacos), plates, bowls, starters, soups/sandwiches and of course fish & chips. Eats. + Poke salmon starter - which you can get either spicy, traditional or with wasabi. So glad they had a non-spicy option! Btw, the salmon portion for the starter and the bowl is the same ~ 5 oz. Dined here on a busy Friday night... Parking was packed as they share the lot with other eateries but that didn't bother me. Got in and noticed that this place was packed. Everyone was already eating so our party was able to order quickly. We grabbed a free table and received our food in about ten minutes! We ordered a few poke bowls, tacos and chowder fries... Each item was delicious and very fresh. The presentation was great! The dining area was a bit uncomfortable as the bench seats don't budge or contour your booty. The table was clean and good sized but they didn't provide Heinz Ketchup, though they did carry Heinz malt vinegar!? The service was so so. The cashier who I believe was the manager was friendly but the young lady that brought out our food wasn't. She must have been finishing up her shift and had a long day... We've all had days like these too. I wish she noticed the tip that I left at the register, maybe she would have smiled a little bit more lol. The soda which isn't Coke or Pepsi brand was refreshing. I chose the ginger ale and was refillable. This is one of my favorite healthier lunch spot, I always always get the Poke bowl here. Who can say no to $7.50 lunch special right? I like the mix of fresh cucumbers, gingers, seaweed, furikake (dry seaweed seasoning), avocado, rice, and most importantly the fresh poke! I personally prefer the salmon since the quality of the fish feels a bit better than the tuna. There's never a line during lunch and lots of tables to sit. Came in for post workout grub. When you walk in the menu is on the wall over the registers and you are just overwhelmed with choices. I didn't know what I wanted and I deferred to the employees to help me make my decision. I opted to get the salmon plate with 2 sides - $15 (with tip). The salmon was a grilled salmon that was lightly seasoned and then your choice of sides. I chose the quinoa and fries. Sadly, the sides were better than the actual fish entree. My salmon was a little overdone for my liking and not seasoned well enough. I had to put additional lemon and salt to add a bit of flavor. I did try the fish and chips and those were delicious! I would order that on my next visit. I did also try the poke and it was fresh. Loved the avocado it comes with! The service is very friendly and they accommodated our group even after the restaurant closed. Nice people! This spot opened up this year and i always walk pass it for lunch and go straight to Rubios. Its one of those things where the people youre with are already set for Rubios and you dont even think about stopping into fish district. Im glad though my wife chose to come here during our lunch date. It gets busy fast during lunch and the menu isnt that overwhelming. I ordered the shrimp po boy and my wife ordered the ahi bowl. I've been here a couple of times so far and I really like it. I'm not in Carmel Mountain that often but I think I want to make this one of my routine lunch spots. I've ordered the fish and chips both times I've been here and it is great. The fish is beer battered cod and it's so tasty. I've tried the ahi poke and the salmon poke. Both are really good but I prefer the ahi poke. It has more flavor. I got the traditional sauce both times. I'll try one of the spicier sauces next time. I think that will make it better. For dessert definitely order their bread pudding. It's amazing. It's nice and warm and perfectly soaked in it's whiskey sauce. So delicious. I definitely want to come back and try other items on the menu. Everything sounds so good. read more

Hi Fish District, I only come to this place for the large poke because there's no other poke place nearby. It's costly but whatever, poke isn't the reason why I chose to write this review. Upon one day that I ate there, a very even-keeled Mexican college aged associate was very welcoming and kind. He gave me various sample of oils to put on my poke, because I couldn't make up my dam mind. So I was given 3 flavors, and then he gave me 2 spicy mayo. He cleans, he sets my bf and up for a clean and (covid) safe, dining experience by cleaning our table before we sat down. We never complained. But you can tell by his body language, he was concerned about that dirty surface, he wiped that surface down to the ground. Store Owner, please promote this boy to a manager. He cares more about customers and the cleanliness of this place, than I ever cared about cleaning my car. read more

My husband and I headed to The Habit next door and saw how long the line was so we decided to check out this place instead...we are glad we did!! I had the po boy sandwich, my husband had the fish and chips. The fish was fresh, my shrimp was well seasoned and they had an assortment of fun condiments. I saw someone complain about the fries weird texture...they are beer battered duh and they are amazing! I couldn't stop eating them. I would highly recommend this place. Good but not great. Food portions are on the smaller side for the price. Got the salmon poke bowl, coastal sword fish taco, & ahi wrap. My recommendation for the poke is go to an actual poke place. You get more options (fish, toppings, sauces) plus the portions are slightly bigger for a similar price. The coastal taco was pretty good; the one thing I didn't like was the tortilla was barely warm so just the time I got to the first bite it was almost cold. The wrap (which my girlfriend got and I tried) was decent. Not much flavor but a healthy(ish) option I suppose. Decent food but nothing special that makes me want to return. read more
