Yesterday, we drove 25 minutes to eat here. Place was not packed which was unusual. Walked in and most of the prices were covered up. We asked about all you can eat and it was almost $20 a person. Instead we ordered entree, appetizer, and soup: Gumbo Boudin shrimp Fish Chicken Beans and rice Jambalaya Crab 1 Stuffed jalapeno We fought over the Boudin and jalapeno. Boudin was stuffed well, nice flavor, little meat. Jalapeno, now that has flavor, wish the rest of our meal would have been a bit more memorable. Honorable mention is beans and rice, though some of beans only included skin The gumbo tasted salty, soft mini shrimp, and it seems that there was a shortcut on the soup base. Overall: Service was good, tight seating, and food was decent Total was $28 with water and tea. We miss how it used to be good and at better price. read more

I have been coming here for years. My apologies for not writing a review earlier. I love all there fired food. For my family, I usually order the family pack meal. It is consist of 25 pieces of fried catfish for $29. You get 2 sides (we usually get onion rings and red bean & rice). If I am eating without my family, I would order the large - fish taco (fried catfish). The large comes with 4 tacos $8.99. There is also a combo that comes with 1 side and a drink. I also would alternate and order a Medium - fried catfish & fried oyster, fried catfish & fried shrimp, or fried shrimp & fried oyster. It just depends what I am in the mood for. My co-worker had red fish and shrimp comes with 2 sides, french fries and vegetables. He said it was good - 4 stars. Another co worker had gumbo and shrimp creole. They did not like it very much. It was watery/soupy. By looking at it, it did not have the thickness 2 1/2 or 3 stars. If possible check out their website or Groupon for coupons. I wasn't sure what to expect. It's a small storefront location in a sea of strip centers. I didn't know if the garish decor (billboard-style ad signs posted throughout the interior to hype the specials) should have warned me away. The full restaurant told me that others could overlook those loud signs I'm glad I stayed. The stuffed jalapeños were flavorful and not too greasy. They come with a house dipping sauce that is a mayo-based cocktail sauce. It is a great compliment to the japs. I also got the fish and shrimp combo ($9) which included 3 shrimp and 3 filets of catfish. The fish was great. Well-seasoned and not greasy, it hit the spot for my seafood craving. The shrimp were the superior of the two as they were crispy as well as tasty. The fries were the thin-cut variety and cooked perfectly. The cocktail/tartar sauce rounded out the dish. Was in Houston on vacay decided to try something different. I have to admit the food is wonderful. One of my sides were the veggies which was zucchini and squash and broccoli and was soooooooooo good. Their chicken is better then chic fil a (something to write home about). I deff recommend this place you won't be disappointed. Only thing I didn't care for was the hush puppies and fries they tasted refried. Everything else wonderfully. Today was my first visit to the Fish Place and I definitely can see myself returning. My meal was delicious, I don't have one bad thing to say about it-which is not like me at all. LOL. We ordered a large shrimp jambalaya and the sampler plate w/ fries and cole slaw- which was enough for 3-4 maybe. The sampler made ordering easy as I tend to be indecisive at times, especially with the recommendations and reviews on this place. Everything was seasoned well and still hot when I made it home. Thats a plus. One thing that stood out to me was the stuffed jalapeno. It was so spicy and fresh..omg. *On the menu its stated the sampler includes two of each appitizer. We received 1 jalapeno, 1 crab ball, 2 shrimp, 2 chicken tenders, 2 pieces of fish. Not complaining, however next time I need to try a boudain ball. Almost transparent versus dark. Not much ingredients either. The fried shrimp and oysters were greasy and the breading was coming off. The onion rings were under cooked. The customer service was great. There was only one person taking orders but he was very nice and answered all of my questions with a smile on his face. However, the food was not good. I ordered a shrimp poboy and the fried shrimp and fish platter. I'm not sure what kind of batter they use but it left a floury after-taste with every bite and it was very bland. Stopped in today and had the 3pc catfish lunch special. With tax $7.04 total. I'll give them props. The food was delicious. Fish nice and hot. Fries were good but most about 1-2 ins long.Problem was the size of the fillets. Looked like a kids meal or snack pack. 3-4 bites and it was gone. Was still hungry. I ordered the seafood platter last night and had to throw it away after attempting to eat half. I understand it's a hard time for the food industry, but they should still keep some quality integrity. The fish and shrimp were tiny and did not taste fresh. There was also no option for tartar or cocktail sauce either. The worst part were the hush puppies and stuffed jalapeño. They were so dry that you could barely chew without gagging. It was literally like chewing cardboard. It seems like they were trying to stretch old inventory or fried food that was way past the recommended service window. Not worth $16! read more

Tried this place out when we lived on the northwest side of town and it was actually very tasty, and very fresh...so when I noticed that there was one right down the street from us, I just had to stop by one night when I really didn't feel like cooking. ha! I do remember getting the catfish & fries because this is my main dish whenever I try a new fish place because if you can't get that dish right, you're not gonna have me coming back for anything else! The gumbo is actually really good which is definitely a plus because my wife usually only orders it from a certain friend of ours who cooks for a living, so to have found a place she actually likes and it's down the street? Went here for the first time with the fam and the food hit the right spot. I am a huge fan of fish tacos so whenever I see them on a menu, I have to try them out! I had an option of choosing between the red fish or the catfish and corn vs flour tortilla and went along with the catfish/flour recommendation...my taste buds were definitely satisfied! They were extra yummy with this spicy sauce, I'm not sure what it was although it did taste a bit like tartar with a kick of horseradish- who knows! Not much of a Cajun/Creole taste to the food. In fact, the etoufee taste more like a thick soup. There isn't any flavor to it , and the fact that they serve the rice inside the etoufee in a large cup, makes it even harder to eat. Unfortunately, I can not recommend anyone go here, just isn't worth it. Needs a revamp of entrees with more thought out into the preparation of the food and delivery read more

The boiled crawfish was spicy but not too spicy (just right) and plentiful. The gumbo was satisfying and the onion rings were great. What stood out most was the service, which was excellent. We arrived for curbside pickup and suggested the employee put everything in the back seat. He pointed out that the pan of boiled crawfish had a lot of liquid in and that it could leave a persistent smell behind if we hit a bump and had a spill. He suggested he put it in the trunk instead. Great idea. He went above and beyond. And our Memorial Day weekend crawfish boil was delicious. read more

The place has had its ups and downs after changing owners a few times, but I'm glad to report that as of late 2017, Fish Place is back on top. I can highly recommend the fried catfish and shrimp, they still have the best onion rings in town, and the loyalty program is not only back but better than ever. OK so I have to admit it was not the Hwy 6 location I went to. The location closest to me is Fry Rd. & W. Little York. But I am sure that all of the Fish Places are great. I dined here with my mother just last Sunday night while watching the Texans v. Colts. I ordered the fish tacos with blackened redfish on corn torts. Comes with two sides, I went a little out of the box with the grilled veggies (very good) and hush puppies. Mom ordered all you can eat catfish and chicken fingers with coleslaw and jambalaya rice. The coleslaw was good but a little to juicy for me. I did like the fact that the cabbage was still very crispy. The staff is nice and they even remember my mother and I when we returned that very next Monday night....Hey don't judge! The prices are fare and the one on Fry Rd. has two big flat screens so that was a plus as well. Food was fast as fresh. Diner style, plastic fork, no frills kind of place, with just good food. You can get a great meal, almost everything under $10 which is fantastic for seafood. I went here for the first time this past weekend, and I LOVED it!! Their fish tacos are HUGE - definitely enough to take home as leftovers. This is a great creole/southern eats in Sugar Land. Great catfish and the all you can eat... is not actually all you can eat. The food is great although a bit oily, and the bad part of this joint is that the sitting area is unbelievably small, they need to find a larger place. I was one of the first customers of this establishment when it first opened. It was fantastic, great food at reasonable prices. Now it's below average and the portions have decreased and the prices have increased ! I ordered the chicken tender meal and the redfish meal. The chicken pieces are very small and the hushpuppies were cold. My redfish was mushy....it just wasn't up to the standards they had when they first opened. The first thing I noticed upon stepping into this establishment was how sticky the floor was. If I stood too long, I thought I might get stuck permanently! No points for decor either; their layout is glum. We went during lunch hour, and there were only 2 other occupied tables. With so few customers and so many orders of the same dish, one would assume food would be cooked and served quickly. Not so! I think I waited 15 minutes for my tacos to arrive. Food was about average. I ordered their blackened redfish tacos. Wasn't disappointed. This place's fish tacos are about on-par with Chacho's, yet inferior to Berryhill's fish tacos. If you're looking for a place to get full, this place is certainly cheap - 9 bucks for their "large order" (4 fresh fish tacos). Another nice perspective is that you get to pick from a variety of seafood (redfish, catfish, and I think even tilapia or shrimp) to go into your taco. Ultimately, I can't recommend making the long trek all the way out to Sugarland just for average tacos when there are so many other choices around town. read more

They have signs and pictures with the Zatarain's logo on them so I assume the jambalaya was from the box. My husbands green beans were saturated in butter but he liked the catfish. The service was friendly. The place is definitely nothing to look at. My fiance and I had the gumbo, which we both agreed was pretty damn good. (She's from New Orleans, so trust her more than me.) My lady had the fried oysters, which were definitely cooked a little too long. She still said they were really good though, so I'm not really marking them off much for that. Overall, we like it. My wife and I often split a combo plate that has fish, shrimp, chicken tenders, hush-puppies with meat in them, and a giant jalapeno stuffed with crab, plus your choice of sides of course. I think that it costs about $15. and it fills us both up. I am not skinny and we never split plates of food anywhere else because I likes to eat, but this plate takes care of two folks. I am not a fan of crab, due to all the shelling, but that Giant fried jalapeno filled with crab is sinfully delicious! I have never been inside, my wife gets it to go, she says it is small inside and often crowded (due to it's size and the quality of foo). So if you live nearby, maybe pick it up and enjoy at home. Went to this place to eat and was pleasantly surprised. The food was very good an very reasonable. I actually bought the Groupon deal and received $40 worth of food for $20. A Steal!!! Everyone enjoyed their food and we had plenty to take home to eat later. If you want to eat at a fancy place, go to P-Deaux's but if you don't want to go through all the hassle and want something fast and/or to go. You have to go here.
